Area of  woodland, largely beech,  north of the Great East Road formerly part of the Kingdom of Rhudaur.

At the time of the Quest of Erebor, in The Hobbit, the area was infested with trolls, three of whom were encountered by Thorin and Company on their journey east, but were exposed to daylight by trickery and turned to stone. In The Lord of the Rings Aragorn and the hobbits travelled through the Trollshaws after Frodo Baggins was stabbed by a Nazgul on Amon Sul.
