Derufin was the son of Duinhir, who, along with his brother Duilin, traveled to Minas Tirith to fight alongside their father during the War of the Ring.

Their folk had great skill as bowmen, so in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, Duilin and Derufin led their archers against the mûmakil, but both were lost in battle, having been trampled under the great beasts' feet.
