Gelmir was a Noldorin Elf, of the House of Finarfin, and originally of Angrod's people. After the Dagor Bragollach, he wandered into the southern regions of Beleriand, and settled in Círdan's realm.

He was later sent to Nargothrond with Arminas to bring a warning from Círdan to Orodreth, the King of Nargothrond.
