Post From Mirkwood On (see O.O.C. to join)

Ok, the title is lame, but I couldn't think of anything else to put! Anyway, I have no clear picture where this thread is going so we'll just have to wait and see.

The sounds of battle raged on. Arrows flew through the trees as Alqua (my charrie's former name) watched it form the branches of a rowan tree. Arnedil, her mother, fought furiously alongside the other Elves as they tried to stop the group of Orcs from entering the forest of Mirkwood. An arrow flew by and struck Arnedil in her chest. She fell, and Alqua leaped from the tree and drew her father's knife. She fought to her mother's side and, with Thranduil's help, dragged her to a clearing where eventually Arnedil died...

Ardinlas woke abruptly. This was the third time in a month she had had the dream. Shadow nudged her and whickered gently. "I'm all right, boy," Ardinlas murmured, dragging herself to her feet. She shook her head as she thought, Why does this dream keep occurring? It's been over 70 years since my mother died.
The day was sunny as Ardinlas, still shaking her head, mounted Shadow and rode for Edoras and on to Mirkwood. She hadn't been home in three years, being as she had ridden between Gondor and Rohan, visiting with her old friends. Ardinlas was in Lossarnach at the moment, riding hard for Edoras. She wanted to visit Eomer and Lothiriel again before heading home.
The dream came back to her as she watched the shadowy mountains loom before her. What did it mean? As caught up as Ardinlas was in her thoughts, she didn't see the man that nearly rode into her. All of a sudden, Shadow halted and reared. Ardinlas grabbed onto his snowy white mane and managed to maintain her position.
"What in the world?" a voice cried, as a chestnut stallion reared and neighed. "Watch where you're going, miss!"
Ardinlas snapped out her reverie. "Sorry, sir. I wasn't paying attention to the road."
"That is obvious. Where are you headed?"
"Edoras. And you?"
"The same. I'm in the Riddermark." That was when Ardinlas faced the man. He had fair hair and blue eyes. His face was handsome, his mouth full, and his hands, which clutched his horse's reins firmly, were strong. "My name is Kalta. And yours?:
"Ardinlas. I crave your pardon for my lack of attentiveness."
Kalta laughed. "It is given."
Ardinlas liked this man, and, as they rode for Edoras, the maiden and the Rider became firm friends. In the meantime, a group of horseman came toward them, and the pair waited to see what would happen.

(Mind if i join? sorry i just realized it said to see OCC first, i can delete this if you want.)
Heowa and Temren are in the RPG Characters thing incase you want to look, i put them under one profile so their name will be under H for Heowa and Temren )
Heowa sat on her horse and watched. Although she was not allowed to ride with the Rohan gaurds, she could watch right? Her twin brother Temren rode as an apprentice. She knew one day he would ride with the roharrim and make a name for himself.

She watched as the soldiers escorted the two strangers on horses back to her home. Heowa rode after them.

When they arrived she ran to her brother. "Who were they?" she asked. "Only Kalta, with an elf maiden." (if you want Kalta and Temren could be friends)
"did you get to meet her?" Heowa asked. "well, no." Temren replied. "well them come on, lets go introduce ourselves." Heowa grabbed her brother's hand and walked to find the elf and man. Temren reluctantly followed,

"Kalta!" Temren waved. Temren and Heowa approached the two. Heowa introduced herself to the elf maiden, "Hi, I'm Heowa and this is my brother Temren" Temren did a short bow. His cheeks blushed greatly. Heowa tried not to laugh.

(Welcome! Sry I haven't posted. I've been busy! I think Kalta should be friends with Temren. It would make the story go smoother...at least, what there is of it)

Ardinlas smiled at them, especially Temren. Shadow neighed and tossed his head. Ardinlas stroked his neck and said, "Hello. My name is Ardinlas. And this is Shadow." She indicated the snowy white horse. "I am headed for Mirkwood, my home. I am the niece of King Thranduil. May I ask about you?" Ardinlas, though usually a silent person, smiled again at them as she waited for a reply.

"nice to meet you Ardinlas and Shadow" Heowa smiled stroked the horses nose, Temren's face was still slightly red, and he nodded in agreement. "Well, there is not much to say about us." Heowa said, "Except that Temren is on the riddermark with Kalta, we bacically have lived here forever." Heowa did not seem to happy with the last part in her heart she wished she could go to Mirkwood. "But we have a little sister named Freda. We live with our aunt." Temren said. "

Ardinlas smiled again. "It is wonderful to meet you all. I have travelled around Middle-Earth since I was about 20 years old. I've been on my own for as long as I can remember. I am going to Mirkwood to see my kin again. I have no siblings and both of my parents were slain by Orcs so the closest kin I have are King Thranduil and my cousin Legolas."
The company of four rode back to Edoras, and Ardinlas was welcomed by King Eomer (is it all right that this is set during the 4th Age?). Shadow was allowed to run free. Kalta went to the soldiers' barracks while Ardinlas walked with Heowa and Temren.

"You know King Thrandil?" Heowa was completly facinated by all of this and her heart ached for adventure. Temren smiled, "we don't get around much do we?" he elbowed Heowa playfully and she scowled at him. "When do you leave for Mirkwood?" Temren asked Ardinlas.

"I am on my way there right now," Ardinlas replied. "Well, as soon as I leave Edoras. King Thranduil is my uncle; my mother Arnedil was his sister. My father was one of the Dunedain." She grinned at Heowa. "You are more than welcome to come with me."

Earendel stopped, she was about a half hours ride out side of Edoras now. Something told her to go back. May be her elvin nature knew something she did not. The idea that she may have taken the wrong direction to find her home land seemed possible. After all in the time of her arrival here she was little more then an elfling.

She made a desicion and turned around and went back to Edoras. The new comer stood out. The white horse and smaller stature. She wondered which elven community this one had connections to, if any.

Earendel was close to the group and was not going to interupt until there was a lul in the conversation. She had just swung one leg over Hyldos neck when a familair voice spoke in his usual booming voice. "Lady Earendel. I thought you were going off to seek your elven family. Or did you deside that after all being gone 'over a century' was likely to leave you with no one who knew you after all? I never did hold much faith in the idea that elves lives for centuries."

Earendel slipped off the mare. put a hand on the mans shoulder. "Garon my young freind," He was clearly in his 40's at least, were as Earedel being an elf only looked about 20. "unless I am completely confused you are about to meet at least one more who is well aware of the longeveity of elves. Your eyes, Garon, seem to have missed that there is another of simalair build as well. If I am wrong then maybe now that the mess from my last visit has calmed down it may be possible to get an idea were to find either Lothorien or Mirkwood."

---
how's that for an introduction to my character.

Earendel looked at the group that her freinds load voice had interupted and spoke. "I appologize for the interuption. Garon is a member of the palace gaurd and not known for being quiet and soft spoke." With her hair pulled forward and not standing too tall Earendel often passed for a small human woman, which is the way her adopted human family had wanted it.

Heowa grinned at Ardinlas, "yes!" she shrieked, Temren looked skeptical. "what about Freda?" he asked. "Oh, auntie can watch her, please Temren!! We may never get an oppritunity like this again!" she pleaded with him. Temren looked at Ardinlas and then back at Heowa. "Alright, it's fine with me, as long as the Rohirim won't mind my leave," Temren looked over at Kala. Excitement shown brightly through Hewoa's eyes. "That's okay." Hewoa said, nothing could upset her now. "What's your name?" she asked, she was a pretty friendly person.

Ardinlas smiled broadly. "That is excellent! We shall leave soon enough."

Kalta had come back and was with the trio. "The Rohirrim will miss you, but they won't be behind if you leave," he said, grinning also. "You might ask leave of the king though."

Eerendel watched the interection with interest.

Then she spoke. "Yes, it would be right and proper to ask Eomer for leave. He is honorable you should have no problems. If on the odd chance that you do let me know. I will see what I can do. With what has happened recently and my haveing the position of mother of an officer of the Rohirrim. I may have a bit of influance with the good king."

Earendel waited for what would come next it always did with strangers. One of them asked. (you can leave it unclaimed or someone can clain the question your choice) "How can you be the mother of an officer when you can't be more then 20 years old yourself?"

Earendel replied. "Many poeple look a good deal older then they truly are. I have the benifit of that."

Garon chimed in, "This one is the mother of my first commanding officer, no doubt about that."

Ardinlas looked over the company. "I'm sure King Eomer won't mind. I've known him for many a year, and he won't say no." Then, she looked at Earendil. There was wisdom in her eyes that had been apparent in her mother, Arnedil. "Might I ask who of the edhellen are your relatives?" Ardinlas asked politely.

As she waited for a reply, Ardinlas surveyed her company. Heowa and Temren, having the permission of their aunt, were with the Half-Elf. The beautiful Elf, Earendil and her handsome friend, Garon, were here also.

(Sorry this is short. I'm waiting for this thread to move along, and I am stuck for an idea.

ooc= hopefully this back ground info on my char that is not in bd doesnt cause issues.

---
Earendel was surprised at the openness and directness of this new comer. Her words were carefully choisen. " I have not spoken of my Mirkwood family in a very long time. Due to that I am fraid I only have one name that I can tell you. I am related to the Lady Gwalothuirien. About all I know about her for sure is that she is a couple of generations older then me. I have had no communication so anything is possible."

Earendel shurged. "I under stand she is known for being a very blunt female and a matchmaker, for everone but her self. As fate would have it my mother fell in love with someone who did not live up to Gwalothurien's expectations. He was no lord."

Earendel realized she had been babbleing. "So sorry I did not mean to put you in the middle of family politics."

She looked then at the humans about her. "Are you set to travel? It will be a long journey and our guide wishes to leave soon."

Earendel looked at her mare, Hlydo,"yes, my freind I see in your eyes that you want to get back on the road..Soon very soon."

She wandered what was taking so long in getting permission to leave.

Temren walked up to the (castle?) following behind him was Heowa, with Freda on her hip. "Wait out here." he said. Heowa nodded. "Why do you have to go?" Freda asked, playing with Heowa's hair. "Don't worry, we'll be back before you know it, and then one day when your old enough, we'll take you to see everything we saw." Heowa smiled, she could feel tears coming up, they had never left Freda at the same time for more than a day. "Okay!" Freda giggled, excited to be able to travel herself one day.

Temren bowed before his king. "What is so important that you must see me for Temren?" Eomer asked (sorry, i am kind of uncomfortabe talking for Tolkien's characters, but i will try my best ) "I need to ask permission to leave on a journey my lord" Temren said looking up. "Where might you be leaving to?" Eomer asked, "To Mirkwood I believe" Temren's voice trembled, he never adressed royalty before and was slightly uncomfortable asking something of the king. Eomer smiled, "The Roharrim will miss you, and it will not be easy to find a replacement for such a noble young man, but i will grant your leave. May you learn much on your adventure." Eomer finished and "Thank you my lord" Temren smiled, his heart almost leaped out of his chest, it was very hard for him to keep from sprinting out of the hall.

"How did it go?" Heowa asked as they began to walk home. "much better than i thought it would," Temren was still catching his breath. "You know, for a country with a ruler, i am sure glad we have King Eomer." he smiled.

Heowa and Temren packed their things and were about to leave, they kissed thier aunt goodbye and both of them gave Freda a big hug and kiss and wiped the tears from her face, hardly controlling their own. After their parents left, family was all they had, and the three of them stuck together like glue.

"Will you bring me back a present?" Freda asked, hugging Temren's neck. He laughed "Of course we will! Something special okay? As long as you are good to Aunty." Heowa answered. "Okay!!! I will!" Freda said joyfully and with one last hug and goodbye they parted. Heowa and Temren went to the stables to get their horses.

Ardinlas, Heowa, and Temren rode out of Edoras that afternoon, after saying goodbye to Kalta. Before the horses galloped off, Ardinlas looked at Earendil and said, “Are you coming with us, my lady?” Shadow tossed his snowy mane and whinnied. He was anxious to get on the road. “Steady, boy,” Ardinlas crooned, stroking his neck. As she waited for a reply, Ardinlas met the glances of Heowa and Temren. There was excitement in both of their eyes and an anticipation of leaving. The Half-Elf felt the same way.

AS soon as the beautiful half- elf had ask Earendel if she was coming Earendel had turned to Garon and clasped his arm.
"good bye, old freind, maybe ill make it back here some day, again"

Then Earendel had hopped on Hyldo and headed off with the rest of the group. the mare was more than anxious to get on the road to took off with out a moments hesatation.

The group was soon riding toward Mirkwood.

The group set out at a quick gallop, to get the extra energy out of their horses. About three miles out of Edoras, the group halted and took stock of their position. Ardinlas looked north and said, "I think we can make out of West Emnet in two days if we ride hard. What think you all"

Earendil nodded her consent. "I agree with you, Ardinlas."

The horses were getting restless agian so the group continued north.

Earendil was glad to by riding just for the sake of traveling. It made her heart light. Her last trip accross the plains of Rohan had been of the express purpose of saving king Eomers life. While she and her companions has succeded it had not been easy.

Now she was content to travel quickly with a different group who's only errand at least at present was to travel to Mirkwood.

With Earendil being so close to her mare, Hyldo, She also could feel the lighter mood with this group. Her steps were lighter and she was eager to run on and on.

Two days later right on track the group arrived in at the end of the West Emnet.

So far the traveling had been uneventfull but things change easily as Earendil know only too well.

ooc- if there is an issue with the last bit let me know.

(I'm not necessarily sure if it is West Emnet or East Emnet. For the sake of the RPG, we will leave it West Emnet, but we can always change it.)

It had been a week since the group had left Edoras. The sun was setting, and they had made camp near a small stream from which the horses drank. A large wood was at their backs , and at their front was a broad expanse of meadow. Shadow came up to Ardinlas and nudged her gently. She took his snowy white white and stroked his mane. "I am so glad to have you with me, old boy," Ardinlas whispered softly. The great horse whinnied.

Indeed, Ardinlas and the colt of Shadowfax had been together since Ardinlas was about thirty (and she was now about 100 or so).

The members of the group became fast friends, and they had shared many conversations. Tonight, Ardinlas, Heowa, Temren, and Earendil lazed around a blazing fire. However, it seemed to Ardinlas that something wasn't right. She thought she heard the movement of feet on the dry meadow grass.

Ardinlas called Earendil over by her. "Do you hear something at all, Earendil?" she whispered, gazing out across the plain.

Earendil nodded. "Yes."

The footsteps grew nearer to the group, and an arrow flew through the camp and wedged itself in a large oak tree. The four companions dropped to the ground and watched while the horses bolted off into the trees at their masters' commands.

"well, they certainly dont know how to sneak around quietly whoever it is" Heowa whispered. "sh" Temren elbowed his sister. Both drew their weapons silently. Temren put his hands on the hilt of his two knives(daggers) and Heowa seeing his gesture put a palm around the hilt of her sword. She looked at the others for a sign of what to do.

The sound of footsteps came closer still. A foul stench filled the air, and a feeling of fear filtered through the camp. Ardinlas' keen eyes saw that Orcs were coming their way. There were about forty of them, the foul beings that they were. Ardinlas looked at the others. "Should we run or fight?" she whispered, knowing full well she would rather fight.

"fight!" Heowa whispered loudly, Temren glared at her, then he sighed, "she's right, even if we can some how either get to the horses or outrun fourty orcs, i think we may be surrounded anyway." Temren softly counted to three and as soon as the number three fell from his lips he stood up and wielded his two knives, "Up! Go!" he yelled signaling them to also get up or run if they must. Heowa stood up, and began to hack away at the ring of orcs surrounding them. "you know i am going to stay and fight." she teased her brother. "I was afraid you'd say that." Temren grinned, if he could he would have her run to saftey, but she is very strong headed, and as long as her brother is wielding a weapon, so is she.

(Don't worry, you are just fine. You're right; this thread needs to move!)

"It was my fault that the horses ran away," Ardinlas sighed. Out of the blue, however, came the four horses galloping toward their riders, lead by Shadow. They swung onto their horses and proceeded to battle the Orcs. Ardinlas' warrior blood rose; she had a fierce hatred of Orcs and would do anything to stop them.

"You do realize the odds are against us," Ardinlas shouted above the din of battle. She had Wyndfar out, and the blade was weaving in and out of the Orcs, dealing death in its wake. "If we get a chance, we should get away from here and get aid. We are four against forty." She looked at the young brother and sister and smiled. "O we could try to defeat them all. It would be safer for us to try and run, just this once."

(Pherphin's in the database.)

Pherphin sat ontop of a nearby hill, watching the battle. He had been travelling towards Edoras, but had made a detour, running into the battle. It was easy to spot the sides. 'They don't stand a chance,' He thought. He unhooked his packs from his horse and dropped them to the ground before mounting. 'Here goes nothing.' He galloped down the hill towards the group, his black hair streaming behind him. He fought his way towards the others. "Hope you don't mind if I help you." He looked around before continuing. "Looks like you need it." He fought away a few orcs, and looked at them out of his one eye.

Ardinlas looked at the newcomer as she whirled Shadow around and charged into the middle of the fray."Another warrior is always welcome," she called.

The Half-Elf swung Wyndfar and beheaded an Orc that was attempting to stab Shadow with a spear. As she battled, Ardinlas watched the newcomer. He had a black patch over one eye, and he looked to be a rogue. It's not that she didn't think him well, Ardinlas thought he looked as if he'd seen a hard time sometime in his history.

Pherphin caught one of the girls staring at him suspiciously. He was used to those looks. He swung at an orc after dodging a blow. This was the first battle he had been in since he lost his eye. "Don't worry. I'm just a mahtar." He smiled at the girl to show he meant it.

Earendil hoped on Hyldo and fought with a vengence, like she always did against these fithy creatures.

The odds were pretty much hopeless. That did not stop her. If they were going to take her life it would not come cheap.
Her only regret being that she had dragged others into this fight. For the sake of her companions she yelled, shortly after the new commer had arrived, she paid him no mind, beyond being sure he was fighting with them. "As much as I would prefer us to kill all these things, I suggest a retreat. Fighting as we go of course." She paused to swing at the nearest orc to her. She left a gaping wound in its head. Her attension was pulled to the left away from the group they were fighting.

This is not good she thought. Her yell this time loader. "The time for retreat is now. They have reinforcements coming. Will be here in a minute or two. We need to start moving out."

She nudged her mare slowly forward. Away from the extra orcs.Swinging as she went. The rest of this day would not be good scrubbing off this nasty orc blood. Once they wre safe.

Pherphin smiled at the one girl briefly. "We should be careful how we retreat. Like you said, we should fight as we back off." He nudged his horse backwards, and closer to the group. "Do not fear." He nudged his horse forward, and continued to fight. This battle was starting to remind him of one from when he was much younger.

Ardinlas' keen eyes saw what Earendil saw; a group of about thirty more Orcs were coming to reinforce their comrades. Shadow maneuvered his way through the melee, keeping his mistress out of as much danger as possible but also giving her a good chance to use Wyndfar. "To retreat is our best option," Ardinlas said, grasping Shadow's sides with her legs as she parried a blow. An arrow fired by an enemy archer embedded itself in the ground next to Shadow. The great horse half-reared and struck an Orc down with his powerful hooves.

"Let's go!" Ardinlas cried to her companions. "There is no better time than now!" The reinforcements were getting closer, and they could see that their own enemy was attempting to retreat. The Orcs swung around to try to surround the company.

Shadow neighed fiercely and plunged through the Orcs. Once he broke through the ranks, he lunged forward into a fast gallop, his muscles rippling. Heowa, Temren, Earendil, and the newcomer following close behind.

Temren whistled, and his horse along with Heowa's came racing toward them and they both lept upon with speed and rode away. "You know, i think i might cut my hair and join the army as you, would you mind?" she was of course being sarcastic (though it had crossed her mind before) Temren laughed,"hah, please i am so much better looking." Even if Heowa had cut her hair, she could not pass as Temren, though the two were twins, the only thing that was alike about them was their hair, skin and eye color (and shape), their facial features did not match at all. (technically they are feternal twins) but you can tell they are related.

Heowa rode next to the newcomer, "hi, i'm Heowa and this is my brother Temren" she smiled and stuck out her hand to shake his, she was the extrovert and Temren was the introvert. He smiled at the newcomer also.

Shadow galloped alongside the newcomer as they were being chased. "Might I ask your name, sir?" she asked courteously. "I am Ardinlas, kin of King Thranduil of Mirkwood."

The horses outraced their pursuers, and after a few miles, Ardinlas could see that they weren't being followed anymore. Ever the alert warrior, however, Ardinlas remained on her guard. They paused near a stream in order to give their horses a break. She faced the newcomer and waited for a reply.

Pherphin was quiet while his horse drank, then answered the question. "My name is Pherphin. I don't really live anywhere, but I do spent alot of time in Lake Town, as most people know it." He grew silent again. After a moment, he asked a question of his own. "Now, who are you, and where are you going?" He peered intently at them.

Heowa eyed her friends if she should tell Peripherin where they were going and decided to let them tell, instead she asked a question being very curious, "if you don't mind me asking, why do you have a patch over one eye?" she asked, Temren looked at her disprovingly "Heowa" he hissed angrily. She just shrugged her shoulders and listened to see if the stranger would respond.

Ardinlas laughed quietly at Heowa. She enjoyed her young companions immensely. "My name is Ardinlas, and we are headed for Mirkwood. Well, we are bound for wherever the road takes us. What is your destination? If you want to, you are welcome to come with us." She glanced at the others for their thoughts.
