((ooc: This is really open to anyone I'm just trying to get Hathën into the roleplaying - he's enroute to Rivendell.. feel free))

We cannot keep the child here...

Take him out...

Leave him.

You shall live, dear child, by the will of my hand...

Waking up with a start, Hathën inhaled deeply; his dark eyes looking around wildly, before he began to calm. More nightmares. It was always the same voices - voices from the past, coming to haunt him. Whose voices? He wasn't sure. He couldn't remember. Sighing, he closed his eyes and rubbed them wearily... another restless sleep. Opening his eyes once more, they were more focused as he looked about him. Almost dawn. Now was as good a time as any to keep going. It would do better to make more ground by starting earlier. Standing, he glanced down at his travel bedroll and yawned; giving a long stretch, before relaxing once more. His fire had long since fizzled out, and was nothing more than burnt wood, bark and ash. He packed quickly; it was in Hathën's nature to do so. He moved smoothly, and didn't waste any moment of any day if he could. He travelled quickly, save when escorting someone, and made good time across the lands he'd come to know so well. Once his bedroll was rolled and tied, he gathered his things, stuffed them into his bag, and slung it over his shoulder before standing. After a brief check of his weapons - Hathën began continuing his hike. He was enroute to Rivendell.

It was mostly to get some more supplies, perhaps even a job or two -- offering escorts to those who desired to leave the city within a day or two. No doubt, he may get some more hassle for being a loner, and a man-human, and not in any sort of army or troupe. But it had never suited Hathën. At least, none of the groups that had tried to recruit him had interested him.

No. He would wait. His destiny would be revealed sooner or later.

Hathën removed his hood and used his forearm to wipe the sweat off of his brow. Trying to find relief from the cold, damp mist of the early morning was a hopeless endeavor; not even the little bits of sun which shone when not hidden behind the endless clouds, yielded any comfort. As a final affront against his abused senses, he was forced to walk across field and hill, which were also deep, cold and filthy. It had rained previous nights, causing the fields to increase in their softness. He felt so close to Rivendell, yet so far away. To describe Hathën's present circumstances as being unpleasant was speaking mildly. In fact, if the bitter chill hadn't rendered his brain almost completely useless, he might have come up with a long list of words to describe how he felt at the moment; most of them vulgar. But he shook his head and continued onward. Things would be better once he got to the city. He'd made some nice money last month; he'd be able to afford an Inn perhaps, and bribe some safety. He knew the elves weren't always welcoming to humans... not given their recent history. But Hathën was different. He respected the elven folk, and admired them in many ways.

Dawn's light could barely pierce a hole through the massive clouds that traveled overhead, paralleling the ground below. Hathën moved across forest, hill, marsh, now field -- slowing here, even as he strained to reach ever further, hoping that he might empty his water flask over the approaching grove, in which he prayed to find a stream. Perhaps it was the cold that stilled him - made him move slower. It didn't matter... since he'd started before dawn, he was well ahead of schedule. Finally, he was able to push his way out of the thick grasses, and onto solid ground once more. There was a steaming mist in all the hollows of the grove as he approached and entered - it had roamed in its own looming sadness up the hill; like an evil spirit, seeking rest and finding none. As the early morning light continued to be shut out by the clouds, Hathën continued along at a lazy pace. A morning mist had also made it's way about him. Pushing his way through the leaves and brush that grew deep in the wood, Hathën came to a small clearing. A small stream ran through it; the sparkling blue water inviting and clean. Heading over to it, he sank by the edge of the stream bank, and emptied his flask onto the grass beside him. Dipping the small bottle in slowly, the traveller filled it halfway with clear water. Bringing the flask to his partched lips, Hathën drank. Looking ahead, he noticed a further sightline ahead of him --- the river Bruinen visible in the distance. He was close. Closer than expected. This new sight gave him confidence, and made him smile.

Wiping the side of his mouth and lips with the back of his hand, Hathën dipped the flask back into the water and let it fill to the overflow point. Taking it out, he closed it, and set it back into his pack. He would hopefully reach the city before midday.

Brego had debarked from Bree nearly a week ago, and not too soon: the stablehand at the Prancing Pony was new at the job, and hadn't taken particularly good care of the beasts in his care; sometimes overfeeding, others underwatering. Brego was not overly fond of horses, but even he knew enought to care for his horse properly--after all, a lame or sick horse was no good to a traveller.

And traveller Brego was. He'd wandered far from his original home in Rohan; the first trips had been with his business partner, a man named Durroch, hardly the choice travel companion. However, now his employer trusted Brego enough to journey on his own. A single man in the wild is less likely to draw attention to himself, and will make less noise. In addition, it freed Durroch up for other ventures. Currently Brego was en route to Rivendell with a message for Master Erestor, Elrond's counsellor: his employer did business with Rivendell, on occassion. It was always wise to keep friendship with the elves--one never knew when it might come in handy.

He'd ridden hard since daybreak, knowing the faster he got into Rivendell, the faster he would get out; he wasn't all that fond of the Hidden City, and on the previous trip, the only one he'd had to the dale, he'd spent a total of three days, then was off again, back to Bree. The town was the center, so to speak, of the business--when finished with instructions, Brego would return there and receive more instructions. In truth, he did not know too much about what he was doing; his employer never said much about it. Another reason he wanted to make this a quick trip--he wasn't sure if the message he carried was a pleasant one or not.

He'd found a small spring on his previous wanderings, and headed there for a midmorning refreshment; he could go all day without stopping much, when he was on foot. But, once again, it was in the best interest of his horse to keep regular intervals, especially in this mist.

As he apprached the grove, he noted a fresh path through the foliage, and he puzzled at it, because it looked fresh. It was not often he encountered other travellers here. Moving through the trees, he caught sight of the figure: a mortal man, all alone. Brego appraised the situation and the demeanor of the man and decided it was safe to approach. If need be he could defend himself, but he hoped it wouldn't be necessary; evil-minded wanderers were becoming increasingly more common, and Brego had gotten into several unpleasant situations in the past. All the same, he dismounted and appraoched the bank, horse in tow.

"Hail," he called, drawing the man's eyes so as not to surprise him, if the man had not seen him already. "I am called Brego. Who be you?"

"Hail," A voice called. Hathën turned and drew his dark eyes upwards - looking towards that figure that moved so calmly towards him. Well, at least he had no cause for alarm... a foe would have charged and spoken no words to him. Standing, water flask still in hand and dripping a bit, Hathën nodded to the stranger as he approached. "I am called Brego. Who be you?" He asked.

Hathën took a step forward. "Hail. My name is Hathën... I am naught but a simple traveller. Enroute to Rivendell, as it were." He said, offering a small smile and glancing back to where the groved city lay but miles ahead. He'd hoped to be there by at least nightfall. Looking back to the man, Hathën nodded to him. "I merely stopped to fill my flask. Though I must say, I am a bit surprised to see someone else out here. Might I ask what wind guides your purpose to be in such a place?" He asked.

The young man was not trying to be nosey, nor persistant in his questions - however, he did find it a bit of a nice comfort to be able to speak to someone else. He had not done so for days. By nature, Hathën was a friendly sort of man; strong and passionate, and quite capable of doing his tasks well. So one should not be fooled in thinking Hathën was but a mere pushover. Such was far from the truth. But he much preferred this peaceful lifestyle. While not perfect, Middle Earth had been somewhat calm for a few years now. Fights still raged, of course, and orc sightings and rumors were no game to those who lived as travellers.

Placing the cap back atop his water flask, Hathën stuffed it into his pack once more and slung the makeshift bag over his shoulder, again looking to the man before him.

Meanwhile a young Elf maiden named Nethwen had begun an adventure also. For many years she did not know who her family was,she had been brought up by an elf named Rilnen. One day Rilnen explained that she was an elf from Rivendell and thats where she would find her family. Nethwen began her journey immediately but was quickly thrown of track. A band of orcs attacked her and were planning on taking her away to their camp but they were unable to.She had caught them off gurad and killed them all. NOt knowing where she was she began traveling.

Suddenly on the path she was riding,on her horse Fairshadow, she saw two other travelers. She smiled."At last.I'm sure they can tell me where I am." Nethwen saud as she approached. "Good day travelers, do you know the way to Rivendall and where I am now?" Nethwen asked.

In the oppsite direction she could see some thing but it was too far off to see what.

((ooc: Sorry, I was waiting for Brego to post, but I guess I can))

"Good day travelers, do you know the way to Rivendall - and where I am now?" A female voice asked.

Turning, Hathën's dark eyes settled upon a woman approaching them; she looked a bit weary, perhaps as if she'd been on a long journey, and an exhausting one, at that. "Greetings, my lady," Hathën said with a nod to her. "You are just outside of Rivendell... it lies a mile or two over there," He said, pointing slightly, and then looking back to her. "I am headed there myself, as it were. But it seems I have come across some company." He said, giving a small smile.

It seemed there were now two people in his company now - when before there had been none. How odd. To find two people in this grove where logically, no one should be, save unless perhaps they were merely passing through.

((sorry--guess this thread moves faster than I thought. sorry I don't have time for a longer post.))

Brego was about to answer Hathen when a maid's voice interrupted, saving Brego the answer. Though the man seemed no immediate threat, Brego was still wary. He remained quiet while Hathen and the maid conversed.

"Oh that is good. My family lives in Rivendell,I will finally be reunited with them!" Nethwen said happily. She looked at the other man that had been quiet. "I see many are heading to Rivendell these days." Nethwen said as she looked suspicously at Brego.

Offended by the maid's suspicion, he tried to remind himself that they were in the wilderness, and fellow journeyers in such numerity were not common. "I am to Rivendell as well--I have business with the Counsellor Erestor."

"I see. Well I have no time to waste,we had best leave before the orcs find us." Nethwen said, still she thought something was different about this man,but she didn't know what. They finally began on their way again. Then her elven eyes caught something that moved quickly. "Stop,we are being followed." Nethwen whispered as she dismounted and slipped around quietly. "I can smell the foul odor,it must be an orc." Nethwen said, her eyes scanned the land before them. "I hope you mortals can handel it." Nethwen said as she glanced back at them.

Bain had continuied to ride and by time the comment was made

"Stop,we are being followed." Nethwen whispered as she dismounted and slipped around quietly. "I can smell the foul odor,it must be an orc." Nethwen said, her eyes scanned the land before them

Bain was close enogh to make out the words. She spoke softly. "Yes you are. By more then just me. My following is not something you need to fear it is what comes behind me that may give us some issues. By the smell of them it is likely orcs." Her tone at the last word left no doubt as to her hatred if the foul beasts.

At that Bain turned her back on these travelers. She often made instant decisions on whom to trust. She decided that the orcs were of a hole lot more concern then these folks and they would be here in a minute or 2.
Then Bain drew her bow from the back and set an arrow on the string so she could shot at a moments notice. She then waited. This would give her a chance to see what these travelers would do. If they chose was to retreat she could as well but it was not likely to be without taking out at least a couple of the orcs first.

"Oh that is good. My family lives in Rivendell, I will finally be reunited with them!" The girl said happily. She looked at Brego and, Hathën followed her suspicious gaze. "I see many are heading to Rivendell these days." She said. Why would she be suspicious of this man?... Granted, Hathën didn't know him - but the man had introduced himself and didn't seem to wish any of them any harm.

By the look on Brego's face - Hathën realized that he was perhaps a bit offended at any accusations or suspicions from the maiden. "I am to Rivendell as well--I have business with the Counsellor Erestor." He said almost confidently, though perhaps feeling inclined to explain his reason for travel.

"I am merely stopping in to gather some much needed supplies before I head off again." He said, nodding to her. She seemed rather suspicious of everyone - for having not been to Rivendell in a long time; or so she'd led them all to believe.

Hathën looked to her as she contemplated both their answeres. "I see. Well I have no time to waste, we had best leave before the orcs find us." The woman said.

Hathën raised a brow at this. "Orcs?... So close to Rivendell?... In this weather." He said, almost as if speaking to himself. "Are you sure you are not mistaken? I have yet to see an orc so far from Mordor..." He mumbled. Not that Hathën was calling the young woman a liar - but still. Orcs. He tried to think of any kind of purpose for those creatures to be out in this beautiful place... so far from their master and home.

"Stop. We are being followed." The girl whispered as she dismounted and slipped around quietly. "I can smell the foul odor... it must be an orc." Nethwen said, her eyes scanned the land before them.

Bain was close enogh to make out the words. She spoke softly. "Yes you are. By more then just me." Another voice said. Turning, Hathën and the others saw another woman. Raising a brow, Hathën shook his head a bit. It seemed his off route path travelling seemed to attract and draw more attention and travellers than the main path to Imladris. Go figure. But he listened as the woman continued. "My following is not something you need to fear.... it is what comes behind me that may give us some issues. By the smell of them it is likely orcs." Her tone at the last word left no doubt as to her hatred if the foul beasts.

At that Bain turned her back on these travelers. Hathën watched as she drew her bow from the back - and set an arrow on the string so she could shot at a moments notice. She then waited. Not wanting to feel like he was merely standing by - Hathën too, drew his longsword from his side... holding it strongly and before him in a ready stance.

And then there was silence. The four waited there, in the open grove, for a sign... any sign, that is, of movement or foul play from these creatures. It got to the point where Hathën began to second guess these two women, in thinking that perhaps they were mistaken about the orcs. However, movement beside Hathën from the corner of his eye caught his attention... and he turned to look. There, an orc emerged from the brush and bush - confused a bit, especially upon coming eye to eye with Hathën.

There was only a slight pause - before the creature gave a piercing and disgusting yell... as if to alert his comrads. But it was within that moment that Hathën swung his sword, slicing the orc across the shoulder blade - pulling back and piercing him through the stomach with a second blow. The orc screeched out in pain, before dying. Hathën raised his foot and kicked the orc away and off his longsword, and onto the ground. "A scout." He said, glancing back at the others.

And then it was... they heard the slight roaring of the small group of travelling orcs as more rushed towards them. Their presence was no longer unknown, it would seem. Raising his sword, Hathën clashed it with the rustic blade of another orc as they all began to attack.

"They want to destroy Rivendell." Nethwen whispered. "It's the safe place for Elves and if they could get in and destroy it they would have a grand victory." Nethwen said. "We had best keep an eye out for anymore,we must protect this land." Nethwen said.

Melwen was riding her horse Tier outside of Rivendell where she did every day. Then Tier stopped, rasied her head and laid her ears back.
Something was wrong. Then she heard it,the srceam of orcs. She rode untill she could see them, there were four people out fighting the orcs.
She needed to get help but there was no time...so she rode out into the band of orcs cutting down a few.
She couln't tell how many there were, but they needed to kill them before they got to her kinsmen in Rivendell.

"Did you hear that?" Nethwen said. The men looked out. "More orcs no doubt." Nethwen said, her face showed anger. She mounted her horse, but the men did not move. "Don't you understand! We must help Rivendell." Nethwen shouted. One man started to speak but Nethwen interrupted. "You men are all the same! Leaving us elves to do all the work!" Nethwen said angrily. Nethwen had never been fond of men since she was told it was men that had separated her from her family. She was about to ride away.but she knew it wouldn't be kind to leave these men on the road and in danger of attack. "Come on,if you need to you can ride with me on my horse." Nethwen said as she held her hand out to them.

"Don't you understand! We must help Rivendell." The she-elf said dramtically. Hathën opened his mouth, as if to respond, but was cut off by the she elf."You men are all the same! Leaving us elves to do all the work!" Nethwen said angrily.

Hathën's brow furrowed and he looked to the she-elf angrily. "Pray, do not speak of desertion, my lady!" He yelled back to her. "For it is YOU who desire to leave us to do the work now!... Whilst we stay to fight!" He bit back. Men? Leaving ELVES to do all the work?... Who then, was leaving now? Leaving Hathën to do all the work? This she-elf. A walking contradiction, she was.

"Come on... if you need to you can ride with me on my horse." Nethwen said as she held her hand out to them.

"Such a 'gracious' offer could not be accepted by a MAN such as myself," He said to her bitterly. Removing a shorter blade from his side, Hathën now held at ready his longsword and his other blade. "I stay and fight. Those orc sounds... there can be no more than ten. Mayhaps twenty." He said, listening to their distant growls and screams as they came closer and closer. "But you go, elf maiden... go back to your city - and tell them you left those MEN to their own defenses." He said back to her as he began to press forward.

While Hathën was a believer in peace - he did not hesitate to fight, nor defend himself. If he had to, he would. And Hathën was skilled... known among his own people for his weilding blade and strength. So he would fight -- even if no one would help him. As he drew closer, leaving some of the others a few paces behind, to choose their OWN paths... stay and fight, or flee to Rivendell...

Hathën saw the orcs beginning to approach him; their rusty blades drawn and marked with the stained blood of men and elves passed. They growled and snapped at him with a taunting rage, but Hathën stood his ground. It was as he expected... no more than 15 orcs.

Nethwen felt bad for what she had said. She had wrongly accused the men. She dismounted and ran to his side. "Forgive me for saying those things. I have not yet met a man of bravery." Nethwen said, she held her two elvish knives. They began the fight and it ended just as quickly as it began. "I'm sure you don't want my company anymore,so I'll leave ahead of you so I will not bother you any longer." Nethwen said as she mounted her horse. Then she turned back. "Before I leave I want to explain why I said what I said." Nethwen said. "I'm headed to Rivendell to hopefully meet up with my family again. I lost them long ago,my father was outside cleaning his sword when suddenly we heard horrible noises. My father rushed in and told us to run,we did.We escaped otu the window, but father stayed behind. My mother dropped me off at Loth Lorien to be taken care of by her sister Rilnen. I didn't know who attack us and when I asked Rilnen told me it was men that attacked us. Evil men,she said." Nethwen finished, tears rolled down her cheeks."I don't know if what she said is true, but it's all I've ever known. So now you see why I became angry, and I'm sorry." Nethwen said, she had wiped the tears from her face. The she grabbed Gildaus's reins and began walking away.

Bain's arrow took out a few of the orcs before the others were able to take out the remaining ones.

When a new comer invited them to come into rivendale she spoke. "It is good to fimally be going into rivendale I have heard many good things about your home for many centuries I am only sorry we had to meet under these conditions. But I firmly believe that orcs need to be taken out where ever we find them. "

She paused and looked around relieved that there had been no injuries. She knew if there had been that here there were other healers to help so there would be no need of her skills here that would be a nice change of pace for her.

Bain contiued softly, "well met Melwen, I am Bain. I am glad to be of some small help to you on this my first trip to rivendale"

Nethwen rode in silence to Rivendell. "This is a great way to end your journey,no friends." Nethwen said sadly.

She put her horse into the stables and walked to find someone who knew her family. She found a young male elf and asked him. "Yes, I knew them." The elf said. "Knew them?" Nethwen said worriedly. "Yes, they left for the Grey Havens a year ago." The elf said. "Oh, thank you." Nethwen said.
She walked back to her room. "No friends and no family." Nethwen said. When she was in her room she wlked out to the balcony and wept. What could she do now?

Brego tied his horse to a thick tree, preparing for the fight while listening.

"Don't you understand! We must help Rivendell. You men are all the same! Leaving us elves to do all the work! Come on, if you need to you can ride with me on my horse."

"Such a 'gracious' offer could not be accepted by a MAN such as myself. I stay and fight. Those orc sounds... there can be no more than ten. Mayhaps twenty. But you go, elf maiden... go back to your city - and tell them you left those MEN to their own defenses."

Brego was a silent man in the company of strangers: he had learned years ago that the less you knew a man, the more you let him talk and the more you kept your own mouth shut. It had saved him many a fight and offense, and now was no exception. He remained a spectator to the argument between elf and man, listening and learning what he could of them by their words. The she-elf, there was something more to her than her arrogant and self-contradicting words, and Hathen's sense of pride... It was amazing what one could discover by simply spectating.

The orcs attacked swiftly, and were swiftly defeated, due much in part to Hathen's skills and Bain's bow; Brego's own sword was darkened in several's of the beasts' throats, receiving minor injuries in return, and as he cut down the final orc, he noticed--these orcs were not wearing much in the way of armour. In fact, they were unsuited for much more than travelling through the wilds. No helmets, heavy packs, few full out battlegarb and even fewer bows...

"Forgive me for saying those things. I have not yet met a man of bravery."

Brego turned towards the she-elf, Nethwen, wasn't it? The one who had nearly deserted them. She seemed distressed, almost guilt-ridden.

"I'm sure you don't want my company anymore, so I'll leave ahead of you so I will not bother you any longer. Before I leave I want to explain why I said what I said. I'm headed to Rivendell to hopefully meet up with my family again. I lost them long ago,my father was outside cleaning his sword when suddenly we heard horrible noises. My father rushed in and told us to run, we did. We escaped out the window, but father stayed behind. My mother dropped me off at Loth Lorien to be taken care of by her sister Rilnen. I didn't know who attack us and when I asked Rilnen told me it was men that attacked us. Evil men, she said. I don't know if what she said is true, but it's all I've ever known. So now you see why I became angry, and I'm sorry."

Nethwen's story took Brego entirely off-guard. Who was this woman, that she would spill such intimate information to complete strangers? The story answered many of Brego's unspoken questions, in addition to confusing him: why would she feel the need to narrate such an experience to them, and become so emotional? All the same, it was an apology, and he nodded in acceptance. Turning back to his own horse, he ensured the animal was intact: Brego had centered around it, keeping the orcs from reaching the beast. If he had no beast, he'd have to carry the pack himself, and that would create inconveniece, and he avoided inconvenience as much as possible. Life was much more convenient that way.

"I assume you were on your way to Rivendell before the orcs caught up to you. I am Melwen. On behalf of Rivendell. I welcome you all!"

How many travellers were there! It seemed ridiculous! Then again, the more the merrier, as the old saying went. Perhaps this would work out as an advantage; it certainly had against the orcs. Others greeted the elf, and Brego hung back, filling his water and ensuring everything was intact and nothing was missing--the message was still pressing his breast beneath his sleeveles jacket and his undertunic, safe and sound.

"Well met Melwen, I am Bain. I am glad to be of some small help to you on this my first trip to rivendale."

Finally Brego spoke. "I doubt these orcs were part of a larger contingent;" others turned to look at him. Gesturing, "These are not even armed for combat--they were not looking for a fight. No more than orcs ever are."

"Forgive me for saying those things. I have not yet met a man of bravery." The now guilt-ridden elfess said. Hathën turned to her, still with a cautious eye. He nodded his head, as if the apology was enough for him... yet she continued. So now you see why I became angry, and I'm sorry."

The elfess' story had indeed been a bit misplaced... even unnecessary. Who was Hathën to gain such an explaination? Why did she feel the need to explain to him? He was no lord, nor was he a man of large profit or stature. But just that. A man. "Please, my lady... no need to delve into the dark depths of your path. There is no need." He assured her, nodding and taking heed of her apology.

"I assume you were on your way to Rivendell before the orcs caught up to you. I am Melwen. On behalf of Rivendell. I welcome you all!" Another female voice spoke.

Hathën turned his head to see the approaching elfess. He nodded to her, but did not state his name. Too many people... this was highly irregular. Even Hathën was not used to it. His hopes in getting in and out of the city discreatly... was falling a part. So much greeting and strangers - he would surely be noticed. Not that it mattered. He wasn't staying long anyway.

"Well met Melwen, I am Bain. I am glad to be of some small help to you on this my first trip to rivendale."

But it was then that the other man, Brego, finally spoke. "I doubt these orcs were part of a larger contingent;" others turned to look at him. Gesturing, "These are not even armed for combat--they were not looking for a fight. No more than orcs ever are."

"I agree..." Hathën said with a nod. "Still, it's probably best that -- since we are ALL going to Rivendell -- that we press on. Much of the day has already been lost and I should indeed like to reach Rivendell before nightfall." He said, slinging his pack over his shoulder again. It seemed most other travellers had steeds of their own. Hathën had no steed, since his choice of duty more or less afforded him with a different horse at every escort. Still. Part of his reason to again, returning to Rivendell, was to perhaps buy a horse of his own.

While the horses of Rohan were a top choice for men and his own people... Hathën wanted the prime longevity and stature of an elvish breed. But being from Edoras, he knew how to treat a horse, and treat it well. Nodding to the others - Hathën continued on his way... sure that he would again see these people in Rivendell upon arrival.

It took the lone figure about three more hours of walking before wading through the stream and heading into the thicket which boardered the path to the Rivendell walls. Though tired, Hathën was glad of the walk, and had enjoyed the nature of it. Heading into the city... Hathën was not surprised to see the same calm bustle about the city as usual. Elves were a calm people. They lived peacefully, and in tune with nature. Wiping his brow with the back of his hand, Hathën continued on to the local inn... hoping to find shelter and a bed for his few days here.

Nethwen had made a decision, she didn't want to stay for long, maybe a week. Then an elf maiden came in to tell her she was to join them for a feast. "Thank you, but I'm not sure I can make it. I'm very weary." Nethwen said, although the real reason was she was too sad to eat. Her hopes were high that she was meet her family, but they had all left. She laid down and listened to the sound of the waterfalls, she heard elves signing. This place was beautiful. "Maybe I should stay." Nethwen considered. Then she decided to go for a walk. She noticed the man she had traveled with outside as well. She began wondering why she had told him about her past. he did not care. "I hope he found what he was looking for." Nethwen thought.

This being Bain's first trip to Rivendale she rode quitely. The awe and wonder of this place, which was very different from her home in the golden woods.

Bain had long heard of Lord Elrond but was not sure of herself enough to ask to see him. As a healer the things he had done were spoken of by her teacher with awe and wonder. Now she was in his city. The sights and sounds had such beauty that Even her history did not prepare her for.

As she rode she saw and heard the waterfalls and was entranced. She knew that she was not alone in her delight.

She stop having no great need to go further right now. She sat on her horse for more then an hour and then realized that she had not given his lead she stepped off and spoke that he was free to rest and graze then she took a few more steps and continued to drink in the sites and sounds of the waterfall and the area around it.

She found this deeply restfull and did not move for another couple of hours.

Nethwen noticed the elf that had not moved from her spot for a long time. "I wonder what she is doing?" Nethwen wondered aloud. She walked down to her and gently touched her shoulder. "Are you alright?" Nethwen asked.

Bain was shocked by the touch and the words.

"Are you alright?"

She smiled a softly, even the shock of the approach had not shaken the awe of the place. Bain spoke softly, " I was simply admiring the waterfalls. Both the sight and the sound are entrancing." She blushed then realizing that this maiden was not as taken in be them as she was. Bain rushed on to explain, "I have not been in Rivendale ever before. As a healer I did hear much about Lord Elrond during my studies. But alas even that did not prepare me for this view."

She looked the maiden over, "my name in Bain, but I dont recall yours."

Iswaellen quickly walked through the garden near the waterfall, carrying a small basket and a dagger. Word of the orcs had spread quickly and she, a healer, needed to prepare. Lord Elrond had already sent men out to investigate and report back. Meanwhile, the healers were double-checking their stocks and preparing for a possible battle. Iswaellen bent down, cut several plant with her dagger, and placed them in her basket. She glanced up and noticed two women talking near the waterfall. Iswaellen carefully slid her dagger into her boot and walked over towards them. They appeared to be elves, though she had never seen them before. Hello, what brings you to Rivendell? she politely asked. One must be extremely cautious of strangers, especially with orcs so near the borders.

"I am Nethwen." Nethwen said to answer Bains question. Then she noticed another elf approach. Hello, what brings you to Rivendell? The elf maiden asked. Nethwens smile faded. "Nothing. Just thought I'd have an adventure." Nethwen said, she didn't want to talk about what she really came for...

Bain smiled at the new comer. She spoke softly, " As a Lorien healer I have long hoped to see Rivendale. After seeing this wonderrful waterfall I can well understand why it is a difficult place to leave. I studied much that was wrote by lord Elrond and I think a small part of me was hopeing I might see him from a far, while here."

Bain sighed, respect for the excellent healer deeper then ever.

(yeah, we need to liven things up a bit!)

Suddenly they heard a sound not far from where they were standing. "What do you think that is?" Nethwen asked, her voiced lowered. It sounded as if something was trying to hide among the plants and trees, but whoever it was was making lots of noise. Nethwen walked over, she had drawen her sword, which she had left at her side ever since her travel to Rivendell. She reached in the bush and pulled out a young man, but he looked to be a young man of the Haradrim. Nethwen held her sword at his throat. "Why are you so far from home boy?" Nethwen asked, she sounded tougher than usual.

Iswaellen smiled faintly at the two she-elves. So they were no threat, that was good. She turned her head suddenly at the rustle in the bushes. As Nethwen walked closer towards it, she silently gripped the dagger in her hands. She knew it was no orc, a single one would have never made it into the city and a group would have caused a commotion. But, these were dangerous times. Nethwen pulled out the boy and Iswaellen studied him hard. Haradrim. She bit her lip. There had to be others, there couldn't only be one. So it was orcs and Haradrim attacking. She cursed in her mind for not bringing her sword with her but she hoped she wouldn't need it. Elrond, he had to know. She motioned a nearby elf and told him to alert Elrond. Then she pointed her dagger at him and almost shouted, "Where are the others?"

"There are no others!" The Haradrim boy shouted. Nethwen looked unconvinced, but she did feel sorry for the boy. Why send a lad to do mans work. "Are you a spy?" Nethwen asked. The boy didn't respond. "I don't want to have to hurt you. Now tell me." Nethwen said.
