Thank you so much for sharing this! I really enjoyed them! I especially love the scene in Mirkwood where Bombur falls in the Enchanted River; I think it's especially important in the book and was a bit disappointed when I did not see it in the film.
Do you know if anyone has done this for AUJ? I have yet to see the extended version of it.

I've just watched the DOS Extended edition and most of the new scenes improve the story. There is much more of Beorn, including Gandalf's introduction of the Dwarves. He is a great character so all this new material is welcome, as well as providing some extra details. We also get to see Thrain in Dol Guldur, and get a tiny hint of the Ringlore. The extended Mirkwood scene shows more clearly the effect of the magic on them. Some may think it is too long and drawn out now but I think that just emphasises how they are feeling. It's worth it to see how well Bombur floats.

Another good reason to get this edition is the commentary by PJ and PB, as they explain why they had to make the decisions they did. There's also the extras discs about the making of the film. Fish! Lots of fish.

All Right! The EE goes closer to TH the book! Good reason to go trolling for it in the stores tomorrow (hoping that the foreign-language editions hit the stores at the same time as the English edition!)

Bought the DoS 5-DVD EE last Saturday, went through the Appendices first on Saturday and Sunday, and watched the movie yesterday. I agree fully with tarcolan that this time, the EE movie is much of an improvement on the cinema version, which was not the case at all with AuP EE. The Appendices are also interesting when they track development of concepts over time. You see a slim and still fairly dark-haired PJ, just after his time-out, in early discussions, and then the graying "Hobbit" later.
