The Lord of the Rings – and particularly the character of Legolas – has helped the sport of archery to soar in popularity over the past year or two. If you don’t have a copy of ‘The Silmarillion’ yet, Tolkien’s work about the history of the Elves from the creation of the world up to the Battle of the Last Alliance, now is a good time to ask your parents for an advanced birthday present, become a member of the nearest library or harass your son into lending you his copy, because on October 4th, the Book Club will start reading ‘The Silmarillion’.

Tolkien exhibition

On 21st October, an exhibition entitled, “The Invented Worlds of J.R.R. Tolkien, Drawings and Original Manuscripts from the Marquette University Collection” will open at The Haggerty Museum of Art, Milwaukee. Entrance to the exhibition is free. Return of the Convention 2005

Tickets are on sale now for the Return of the Convention in Bristol, UK. This event opens on Tolkien Reading Day, March 25th, with a gala dinner and runs through the Easter weekend until the 28th. The schedule will include workshops, talks, competitions and two parties including Bilbo’s Birthday Party on the Sunday night. All profits will go to charity.
