Yes, the joints aren't what they used to be. I want to get started on the sorting through things a bit more aggressively, but life seems to be getting in the way. I just have too much stuff which I've not used in literally years. Will be good to go through it.

We are having crazy weather. So cool for this time of year and rain and more rain which I would share with you Belle if I could. A friend in New York state found snow when she woke up this morning.
I had dental work yesterday. I had to have a deep cleaning and three shots and I am hurting today. I have to take antibiotics before the cleaning and I always have a sore throat the next day after the cleaning. They clean below the gum line. So good news I won't have it again until June.
Lily is talking more and more and makes me laugh everyday I am with her. She is truly a light and a joy in my aging years.
Well, I have had a birthday and I am 63. Time sure does fly it just seems like yesterday that I was joining COE and then joining this group and I was in my 40's.
Have a great rest of the week and Bianca my basset is still doing well.

Happy belated birthday, awelyn... I'm soon after you - October 2nd. It does seem that way to me as well. Sorry about the dental work. I'm due for my annual screening and every 10 year one for colon cancer. Ugh... not looking forward to that, but screening is better than not finding stuff early. Wishing you all the best as well as my other FoFers.

I hope all the mothers had a wonderful day.

Things are humming here now that the weather is right for planting. I've started picking up a variety of new bedding plants, and one new tree peony (orange flowers). My other peonies are in bloom right now. They have tons of flowers this year, which have stayed around thanks to the lack of rain.

Speaking of little rain, I've had to start watering already things are so dry. That's pretty much unheard of in these parts this time of year. And the river is low due to the lack of snow this past winter. I have a feeling we'll be on water rationing this summer.

The kittens are getting big and are busy outdoors. Conor is the hunter and he brings me "presents" every day. Usually it's just field mice, but occasionally it's a bird. Sad to say, the only thing Finn stalks is the food bowl.

Have a great week everyone!

We had a fair amount of rain for us, but now is dry and warm again. Weather can't make its mind up and wreaking havoc with the plants. However, we have a bumper crop of mice who are have a feast on our barley sprouts we are growing for our bunnies. *sigh* I hate killing critters, but really? We have tried multiple non-lethal things, but I'm afraid we may have to do the lethal soon or we'll be having them in the house and NO thank you!

Thank you Belle I did have a good Mother's Day and I hope you did and all the mothers in our group as well.My daughters gave me presents one on Saturday the other on Sunday. My son wrote me a most amazing thing thanking me for all I do it was four paragraphs long. I cried. But they made me feel special. My husband took me out to dinner at my favorite Mexican restaurant. I had 2 mango margarita's and my sister and her husband joined us. Lovely food, great company equals a good time.
Oh Dimple I am so glad you are getting to work in your garden. I know how you love gardening. I am glad your Felix is well.
ES that orange peony sounds so pretty.I hope you get more rain soon. I love to watch cats playing outside. They make me laugh.
Belle I hope you get some rain soon. Have a great week.

Still having amazing weather on the West Coast. This is our first 'summer' holiday of the year in Canada, and in this area the weekend for planting gardens.

The whole long weekend is supposed to be warm and sunny. Actually, it's a bit odd to see people out and about in only shorts and t-shirts in mid-May. The weather service is advising that the lack of rain should continue which will mean water rationing this summer. The entire west coast seems to be in a drought situation right now.

Anyway, have a fabulous weekend everyone!

Strangely, it rained again yesterday, quite hard. Today it is overcast and cool outside. I love it, but it is very odd for the San Diego area to have this in May. I'm not objecting... we need the water, as ES says, here in California. However, we can't get up to our mountain area because the roads are muddy soup. Hopefully, we be able to go before June, but that all depends on if the road dries out enough. Have a lovely weekend, my FoFers!

Enjoy the rain! my daughter in Riverside said it was a good drenching.

We had a good drenching the first of the month when up to 277mm (11" of rain fell in a little over 3 hours in some areas. It wasn't quite that bad where we live, but i did have a river running down through the back yard and by the side of the house. It flooded the laundry room and I had to go out in it to clear the debris from the gate to keep the water moving downhill. Twenty days later and there is still water seeping out of the hillside.

Anyway, happy May to the .4 of a century or older club!

Thank you Arveleg. Man that was alot of rain. At least you did not get the flooding some of the people in Australia were getting. Happy May to you.
Belle glad you are getting more rain. You have a lovely weekend too.
ES glad you are still having amazing weather and have a fabulous weekend yourself.
We have had a cool front come through from Canada and it is very cool for this time of year. We have had so much rain I told my husband I felt like I was living in Seattle,Washington that gets quite a bit of rainfall. I am going to a wedding of a young couple at the end of the month and they are in my ALEP (A Long Expected Party). They are a sweet couple and many of our group will be there 3 from here and they want us to dress Middle Earth for the reception. I think it sounds like fun and I will dress as a Hobbit. I am looking forward this wedding and getting with ALEP friends.

It was like the sky was one giant firehose. 5 people died in the floodwaters from rapidly rising creeks not too far north of us.

Sounds like a good party comin g up!

Hello all,

While a lot of you had rain ,last friday beleive it or not we had SNOW!!!!!I don't have to tell you how much discouraged I was,but luckily we didn't have any accumulation and it was just this day.The week-end was warm and sunny and I could work on my flowers on saturday and cut the grass for the first time of the season on sunday. So my discouragement(is it a word?)didn't last a long timeBut this week will be rain until friday so I'm glad I worked outside this week end.

Awelyn the wedding sounds great, have a lot of fun!

Belle I'm glad you had rain and it's too bad for the mice but you don't want it in your house for sure.It happened to us many years ago, mice invited themselves to our basement, and once in the house they go everywhere,so one morning we were taking our coffee when our dog(a boxer at the time)who was quietly laying between the kitchen and the living room got up and ran to the kitchen to catch a field mouse. She came from behind the stove where there was a little space where it was connected. She went back where she was coming from and we had to put traps in the basement,I didn't like it but we had to do it.I found little black feces in the kitchen drawers and I decided to wash the entire kitchen. We found about 5 mice in our traps and that was it.I felt a bit guilty they were so cute with their big ears with pink inside and they look so innocents.

Have a good week all

Yes, I don't like having to trap them, but can't have them eating the grain and leaving their droppings everywhere. It's been so dry they don't have a big food supply elsewhere so they decide to come indoors. Not good. Take care all. Off to do a colonoscopy this morning at 10:30 a.m. my time. My holiday was a bit not so much a holiday because of the prep yesterday, but at least this is the last time I'm having one. After age 65 they don't recommend them and I'll be 72 when I'm due again.

I feel the same way about trapping mice but I have a house cat so she keeps that problem taken care of for me.
Rain, rain go away I feel like singing but we are promised some sun tomorrow.
Belle I hope everything went smoothly for you.
Dimple snow I would have been discouraged too.
Arveleg that is a great quantity of water. I will have fun.

Greetings everyone!

I can't believe the weather other parts of the country are having. We're still having beautiful warm, sunny weather without any rain; most unusual for this part of the country. In fact it's so dry I'm having to water the garden on a daily basis. As far as lawns go, we've been mowing here since early March and having to do so pretty much on a weekly basis.

The river that supplies our water is really low already so we're gearing up for water rationing this summer; something we haven't had to do for several years.

The entire western seaboard is experiencing drought conditions which are affecting the fruit and vegetable crops. As we get a good portion of our produce from California, prices have gone up considerably. It's creating problems for those of us who are on fixed incomes. I'm fortunate in that my neighbours are avid gardeners so I'm kept well supplied with vegetables.

Looking prices in general, I'm not sure how anyone can afford to buy some things. I was looking at some grilling steaks the other week. There was two steaks in the package and the price .... $30.00! Needless to say, steak's off the menu.

Anyway, I'm off to enjoy another beautiful day on the island. I hope everyone has a great Sunday.

The greater Nuernberg (Nuremberg) area has had the third driest January-to-April four-month period in weather records. Still, we have had some rain at sufficiently short intervals to allow lawns / meadows, bushes and trees to produce flowers and leaves, if at slow and hesitant stages.

This is northern Bavaria. By contrast, southern Bavaria has had precipitation approaching flood conditions - but thankfully, rarely exceeding them.

This weather difference between pre- and post-Napoleonic, extended Bavaria is normal. It may be becoming more pronounced.

Warm here and sunny for a change. Been gray in the mornings, then sun comes out but temps usually in high 70's-low 80's. Water rationing going into effect as of tomorrow statewide. Haven't watered my yard in months. The only thing that we water are our bunnies, cats, and dogs. We do laundry and wash dishes, but are playing the shipboard game of - water on to wet, turn off, soap up, water on to rinse, turn off, do hair, water on to rinse, water off. Seriously dry here despite the rain and drizzle earlier. Just not enough to make up for all the time without.

Image We finally got a decent amount of rain here over the past twenty-four hours, and what a difference it has made.

During my walk this morning, the birds were singing cheerfully and collecting the worms that had been flooded out of their tunnels. The air seemed cleaner and fresher somehow, and the colour of the bushes and flowers seemed brighter. It was lovely.

Unfortunately, I see the areas that have been hit with flooding seem to be getting more of the same. I hope none of the 40+ group are having problems with an overabundance of water. You have my sympathy if you are.

I was supposed to go to a birthday party but never made it as my van wouldn't start. I checked the lights and nada, nothing, de rien .... it's a fairly new battery so I was more than a bit miffed. The garage I deal with came and towed it to the shop. They couldn't find anything wrong with the van, other than a hole in the muffler. No idea why the battery went dead. And no, I didn't leave any lights on. I don't drive at night much since I've retired and, anyway, the van warns me when I open the door if the lights are on. Now I'm thinking that I may be looking for something newer as the 'old girl' is a 1997 model. Been an awesome vehicle up to now but she's starting to show her age. I will probably look for one of the smaller 4x4's that are on the road now.

Anyway, that's my week so far and it's only Tuesday. Image

Yes, I completely understand. Gave up my stick shift Hyundai Santa Fe (2004) for a 2012 automatic Subaru Forester with AWD. Hubby still driving the old 1995 Ford Escort (stick), but his knees are telling him about it and I'm not sure how many more years the old girl (yes, I call her that too as she started out as mine brand spanking new) in her since she's pushing 300k on her now. Sun's out now, but not horridly hot (yet). You'd never know we had rain not that long ago. The ground literally sucked it up. Long week, but should be short since I didn't work yesterday (9 hour shifts and my scheduled day off). Still, the work doesn't stop. Can hardly wait till I retire and can putter around the yard and house and do the hobbies I've put off.

The weather here is so so,one day sunny 2days rain or cloudy period, but it is not so warm.today was nice ,tomorrow rain and so on.Hope it wil be nice for the week-end I'd like very much to roll in the dirt and look after my flowers

We had a jeep laredo that we kept for 12years,last friday we decided to buy a newer jeep since the one we had showed signs of fatigue so we bought anothe jeep 4x4 Patriot 2011 and only 38kilometer in it so that was good.It is smaller and not so heavy as the other one but it will be ok for our use.The price of brand new cars are out of this world, just can't afford it!!

And the price of grocery is not cheap either, the meat is outrageously high,I thought they wanted us to be vegetarian but the fruits and vegetables are expensive too, what can we do we have to eat!!!.And how about the cereals, here in Canada where we have the prairies full of grains and cereals, the bread basket of the country, and we pay a small box of cereal almost 4$.No wonder families with children are complaining their pockets are empty!
Anyway,I'm out tomorrow...grocery shopping

Have a god night all

Yep, Dimple, it's that way here in the States, too. The cost of everything is skyrocketing. I bought my last truly new car in 2004 and that's the one I just got rid of for the 2012. No more new cars for me. So far I am happy with the Subaru. I feel for folks on fixed income and the homeless here. It's way too pricey in San Diego... heck, in California! Not that it's a whole lot better anywhere, but here it's truly horrendous. We're going to have to try and live very frugally once we retire.

Today (Friday 5 June), the temperature topped 90°F here for the first time this year. Tomorrow is forecasted as even warmer, with some areas in Germany nearing 100°F. And as has become traditional here since a few years - besides fast jumps in temperature both ways - a steep upwards jump invariably leads to thunderstorms. We shall see.

On another topic, my retirement from "active duty" with my company is pretty much fixed for spring 2017. It's an early retirement plan with reduced pay up to my 63rd birthday, split into two halves between "active duty" and the passive phase. Central Headquarters has been a bit of a tizzy for a while, we seem to be due to be named by new acronyms anytime soon - I'd like to get paid for thinking up that kind of stuff ...

Hi, Sindy! I'm still around, but don't post much. Oh, for the old days when we had stimulating conversations about everything Tolkien, and then some. As I recall, Haggis and kilts received quite a lot of attention, too.

Hello Sam and Sindy yes I am here but have been ill again. You know with all the prices of food going up it makes so much sense to have a garden. I plan on going to the farmers market and being some things there as they are cheaper. We have had so much rain in my area and flooding. I am hoping things will settle down soon. Hello Gandolorien and ES and Dimple and Belle. I hope you all are having a good summer. Not much longer and it will be 4th of July here. I have had trouble with my above gound pool and my husband is still working on it. I am not got to swim yet. He has been building a wooden playground set for the grandchildren.
Have a greet week and will try to be here more.

There is not much more of a summer here Awelyn, today it's look like an autumn day,it is cool and rainy and windy. It's hard to get 2days of sunshine in a row.we have painting to do outside and we can't do it because it takes at least 3 days of dryness and we don't have it.it will have to wait later we cannot fight mother nature she has a mind of her own!I hope you're feeling better,is your knee bothering you?If you're lucky to have a farmer's market close it's the way to go,it is cheaper and usually the fruits and vegetables are fresher than the super market.

Hope you'll doing all fine

Sorry to read that some of you are still having wet weather. I am rather envious to tell the truth.

We're continuing to have blistering hot weather with no appreciable amount of rain in the near future. As of this date, the Province has pretty much spent its entire forest fire fighting budget for 2015. Statistically, we have in excess of 240 burning, primarily due to lightening strikes. To give a comparison, last year there was a total of 44 fires Province wide.

The Island has fared somewhat better but has had its share of fires. This photo was taken of one of the planes dropping fire retardant foam on a fire near the Nanaimo Airport about 50 kilometres from where I live.

Image

The Province has issued a ban all campfires at campsites, even going so far as to ban contained fires on private properties (much to my one neighbour's annoyance).

They just released a news item that this past June was the hottest and driest since 1958. And it doesn't look to be changing any time soon. Wouldn't it be nice if we could send some of our weather back East and you could send some of your rain here? One day these things may be possible.

Anyway I really stopped by to wish all the Americans a very happy July 4th. I hope those of you celebrating will have wonderful day with some decent summer weather.
