TTT Extended Edition extras!

USA Today has seen the whole extended edition DVD with Peter Jackson and afirms it will contain 43 minutes extra, including such scenes as Faramir finding Boromir’s body and more with Treebeard, Merry, and Pippin.

A series of The Lord of the Rings collectors coins are to be struck by the Royal Mint later this year … Selected coins will be available towards the end of the year to coincide with the release of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers video and DVD and the premiere of the final part of the film trilogy, The Return of the King.

LOTR cartoon caption contest re: eagle-eyed Dwarf

For the next week, I’m running a Lord of the Rings cartoon caption contest. The cartoon has Gimli boasting to Frodo about his sharp eyes and ears, while walking into an Elvish arrow. The reader gets to write Haldir’s response. The entries are rated by readers with the funniest punchline voted on in a week’s time. The contest ends June 18th!

Orcs is an Offical Word, really!

A new Oxford English Dictionary published Friday has 6,000 new words added to it! One of these words was invented by Tolkien himself: Orcs. The word is describe as: “members of an imaginary race of ugly, aggressive human-like creatures.”
The dictionary says the word probably comes from the Latin orcus meaning hell, or the Italian orco, meaning monster.
