Another screenwriting award for Peter, Fran and Philippa!

Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens have won the Best Script award for TTT at the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America Nebula Awards. The winners were announced on Saturday, and TTT beat films such as ‘Finding Nemo’ and ‘Minority Report’ to win the award.

100 greatest movie characters of all time

Sixteen cinema critics have designed for Premiere Magazine a list of the 100 Greatest Movie Characters of all time. Among the top 10 characters, Gollum is number 10.

Fell Beasts attract tourists

Stuff has more about the giant Fell Beasts which were previously displayed on top of the Embassy and Reading cinemas to promote Return of the King. The beasts are now in a gas field in a southern landfill, where they are attracting tourists.

Let The Hobbit Happen – update

Robert Shaye, from New Line Cinema has sent a letter to The Hobbit Film site, thanking fans for their enthusiasm and stating, “Please be assured that there is, in no way, a crass argument with MGM or anyone over money or rights. In fact, no discussions about any settlement of our respective claims, has been commenced”. He also states that New Line, “wish to have the film overseen by the best possible mentors – and, for us, if possible, that means Peter and Fran”.

Tolkien online course

There’s a free online course at Barnes & Noble University. This will cover areas including, Tolkien’s writing life, his books (focusing on The Hobbit and LotR), his influences and the way he created his fantasy world. You can enroll in the course for free, but you have to register first. The course starts on May 3rd.

First Annual TolCon

TolCon (Seattle, May 14-16, 2004) is a three-day event presented by The Northwest Tolkien Society in celebration of J.R.R. Tolkien, his writing and the fandom that has sprung up from the amazing worlds he created. There’s further information at the TolCon website here.
