Loathe is he to take her back to Rivendell; but when news reaches him that his wife has been attacked, he decides to adopt the girl, in the hope that they can both heal each other.
"Who are you?" In all her ages in Lorien, Lady Galadriel has never seen such an intriguing girl as Shalain. She seemed so innocent, and yet, Galadriel cannot shake off a feeling of some hidden power within. Shocked by what the Mirror reveals about the girl, she confides in Elrond of her misgivings. Mistakenly believing Shalain to be a spy, he sends her away.
"Who am I?" Shalain always knew she was different from the very beginning. Loved by a family she cannot remember, she struggles to find her place in life. Bereft of an identity, Shalain finds solace in her imagination, and her vivid zest for life brings joy to those around her. So it was only natural that Arwen, who had given her a brief oasis of tranquility, would be the messenger who would shatter it.
