How long does it usually take to get a message from the language staff after submitting a lesson on an elvish language?

That depends on the number of staff available fo the language you’re studying, and the number of exercises submitted during a period, but you shouldn’t need to wait more than a week. We do aim to be much quicker than that, but sometimes real-life obligations get between us and our hobbies. Please remember that the […]

When I complete a lesson on Sindarin, and I submit it, it says the language staff will grade it, will it get sent back to me so I can see what I did right?

As soon as you have submitted an exercise, it will be listed on the main workbook page under “Exercises Submitted for Staff Approval”. When it has been checked by the workbook mentor, it will appear under “Partially Completed Exercises” on the same page if there were mistakes among your answers and the exercise thus not […]

I’m sorry if I’ve missed this somewhere, but are the Elvish language workbooks O.K. to print?

You may print the language workbooks for your own use, and it’s also perfectly allright if you want to use them for a study group among your friends.

Which type of Elvish should I learn?

Short answer: The one you’re most interested in, as that means you’re less likely to give up 😉 If your interest was awakened by the LOTR or Hobbit movies, then you will probably prefer Sindarin, as this is the main form of Elvish used in all of them. Sindarin is also the language used by […]

Unfortunately, since the move of this site to WordPress, you can no longer submit a translation request in on the database page. This may or may not be fixed in the future. But, you can always post in the relevant language forum (Elvish101 for Sindarin, Quenya Forum for Quenya) and ask for help with the […]

I cannot find the Sindarin dictionary anywhere. Where is it?

You can access the dictionary by going to Languages–>Translations–>Tolkien Language Dictionaries, or you can just click here.

I completed one of the Quenya exercises wrong and need to change it. What should I do?

Send Malinornë a PM, requesting her to “send back” the exercise so it can be redone, if it hasn’t already been sent back for correction.

Will you translate something into Elvish for me?

If you need something translated, it is highly recommended that you take a look at the Elvish 101 Forum, and ask any questions there. Please note: sending an email/PM to Rivka will not get you a response! She doesn’t know Elvish, and can’t help you.

Do you have a printable version of the Sindarin dictionary? Or the Workbook?

PDF and MSWord versions of some of the workbook lessons and other materials are available for download from the ‘Sindarin, Quenya, and Tengwar Resources’ page. From the main menu, go to Languages –>’Studying Elvish’ Tools, or just click here. Just a word of warning… these documents are not updated as often as the version in the […]
