I like the sequences between Legolas and Aragorn most. They express a special level of frienship, loyalty and communication.

Sorry, I can´t really write down, what I am thinking and feeling, my English fails. But I would be pleased with any help :blush:

Ok my favorite elvish phrase from the movei is:

Legolas: Boe a hyn neled herain dan caer menig.
Aragorn: Si, beriathar hyn ammaeg na ned Edoras.
Legolas: Aragorn, nedin dagor hen ú-'erir ortheri. Natha daged dhaer.

This is mainly because of comic value, the way Legolas says his lines is in such a british accent it cracks me up each time.

Now favoirte line for beauty value is:

Aragorn: Minlû pedich nin i aur hen telitha.

arwen: Ú i vethed nâ i onnad. Boe bedich go Frodo. Han bâd lîn.

aragorn: Dolen i vâd o nin.
arwen: Si peliannen i vâd na dail lîn. Si boe ú-dhannathach.
aragorn: Arwen.
arwen: Ae ú-esteliach nad, estelio han, estelio ammen.

I also think this is beautiful because of the way it is acted.

Ruum, that is also my fav one (the one between Aragorn and Arwen)...as for the "elvish-row" as i call it between Aragorn and Legolas i always thougth that Viggo says his line with a sorta spanish intonation!!dunno..just the sound of it!lol!

I have to say that my favorite elvish line in the movies is when Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli are in Fangorn Forest and Legolas says:


Legolas: Aragorn nad no ennas (Aragorn something's out there)

Aragorn: Man Cenich (what do you see?)

Love all the lines already mentioned. The Bruinen spell was the first Elvish I ever learned!
For some reason, the following strike my fancy:
- "Andelu i ven" (The road is too dangerous), said by Strider (Aragorn) to Arwen when they are arguing about who is going to ride to Rivendell with Frodo. Eventually, Aragorn concedes that Arwen is the better rider and gracefully ends the conversation with:
- "Be iest lin" (According to your wish)
Also, when the fellowship, minus Gandalf arrive in Lothlorien, Aragorn tells Haldir:
- "Haldir o Lorien. Henion aniron. Boe ammen i dulu lin. Boe ammen veriad lin." (Haldir of Lorien, we come here for help. We need your protection.)
And, of course, my ultimate favorite, already mentioned in this thread several times: The argument between Legolas and Aragorn where Legolas says:
- "Aragorn, nedin dagor hen u-erir ortheri. Natha daged daer!" (Aragorn, they cannot win this fight. They are all going to die!)

Pads, I'm actually from Switzerland, and I laughed out loud when I read your post. You put the finger EXACTLY on what has been bugging me about Legolas's Elvish! It does come out sounding terribly nordic and all chopped just like SwissGerman, instead of the flowing welsh like sentences which Arwen utters, and the slightly romance language flavored lines which Aragorn has. I guess since it's not an actual living language, everyone is going to put their own flavoring into it...


In my opinion, it's not really the way he delivers it - he speaks more flowingly elsewhere. Rather, it is how elvish can sound harsh from time to time when they are dealing with harsh words. Notice the hard endings to the words for example. He is talking about fighting and dying.

I love how the prolog leads you into the movie. Thats definately my favorite elvish line, from the movie at least.

i loved the whole scene between aragorn and the lady galadriel I think out of all the elvish used in the movie this sounded the most effortless like the two actors could really speak it.

Great topic!

My favorite line by far is Aragorn's coronation chant:

"Et Eärello Endorenna utúlien. Sinome maruvan ar Hildinyar tenn' Ambar-metta."

In general, I wish there had been more Quenya in the movies, it has such a beautiful, flowing sound.

Arwen's spell at the Ford of Bruinen is beautiful and very powerful, although to be honest my favorite Arwen line is in English: "If you want him, come and claim him!"

When we first see Arwen and she says, "Im Arwen. Telin le thaed. Lasto beth nin. Tolo dan na galad." *trans: I am Arwen. I have come to help you. Hear my voice. Come back to the light.* I don't know why, but I get chills every time I hear this. Plus, Arwen just looks so beautiful right then.

Ohhh! The elvish how beautiful!! I dunno where to start. Well first of all I love the elvish in my signature!! But I also like the elvish that Arwen says to Frodo something like this: Frodo im Arwen telen la thid lasto beth nintolo dananglad. Sorry probably spelled it all horribly!! haha

That is such a beautiful line between Arwen and Aragorn and I also agree that when they are talking on the bridge it is such a good line. And scene for that matter! :drool: :drool: :drool:

But I think my favourite elvish line would be when Arwen is chased by Black Riders (FOTR) and she says that elvish spell.
(Sorry but I really can't type it out right now!)

I LOVE hearing Viggo speak Elvish...he's so multi-lingual, it sounds so comfortable in his mouth...My favorite incident of him speaking elvish is when he's calming Brego in the stables at Edoras...just sounds wonderful.

My second favorite is "I give hope to men" "I keep none for myself"

My favourite Elvish line would have to be in ROTK when Aragorn says to Legolas, "Hannon Le." So full of emotion and sincerity.

And I have to add Arwen's best line.

My favourite bit of Elvish is actually when Aragorn and Haldir are arguing in Lothlorien (EE). I don't know what they're saying, but they are speaking the language with perfect fluency.
Also, I like the part where Aragorn arrives at Helm's Deep and Legolas greets him, "Le abdollen" (You're late).

I like all the Elvish, but my favourite sequence with it is the whole thing between Legolas and Aragorn at Helm's Deep in the armoury. You know... "They're all going to die." etc.
