This is where you can post if you need help with a specific fan fiction. But please don't post the whole story, especially longer stories will cram the thread! Just an outline of the plot, or the parts with which you need help. Alternatively, if you have some chapters written and published, you can post a link to the story.

If your story is completed and published, please don't post it in here -- we have a review option in the fan fiction archive! Posts just saying "Please read and review my fanfic" will be removed.

When he lashes out his fire whip, he could be whipping his students to work harder and saying something like, "Move, or you shall feel the 'sting' of my wrath!"

Yep. So I have this fanfic. I have made tw chapters already and they are up in fanfiction.net. I have been telling about it to all of my friends but no one tells me what it's like..

It is of Merry and some of there peoples (some from the movie, some own made) and it is a show they host. I am in need of ideas and guests to come into the show. And I would maybe need someone to write a chapter if I feel miserable or anything. But I would suggest you are humrous to read this. Because I need humorous people. Here is the link(CLICK) So everyone just go read and if you are interested post here!

Thanks to all who read this and help,

Nin

Ok, I have this LOTR fic that i just posted on Fanfiction.net. Almost Immediately i got a flame*. The reviewer said that everything was wrong, that Calavénë was a stupid name and the so was Ohtarë. She said that the random accents gave her a headache. But i got those names on this site. She also said that my dialogue was horrible. I got an A in dialogue in Writing workshop, and was the only one in my grade. She also said that Calavénë was a useless ** . . . I'm not saying what she used. You should all know. I mean yea my sister put the chapter up before it looked over, but the review made it sound as if the chapter was like, i cant explain it, but would you please go and read it and tell me what you think. the link is,

http://www.fanfiction.net/read.php?storyid=1933352.

*flame: a flame is like when someone says its horrible, stuff like that.

Jade_of_Elfs ... I'm sorry your story was flamed ... some people simply have nothing better to do, and seem to enjoy being negative just for the sake of it. It's best to just ignore those who attack someone's else's work ... if they don't have any helpful advice to offer, then their opinions really don't count for much.

Hey, I'm trying to write a fan-fiction and I'm getting no where! Do you guys think that you can help me out?

Before the story starts, Eliora (Legolas' cousin) watched her parents get murdered. She is able to get over it with the help of her husband Eruanna. For some reason (need help coming up with a reason here) orcs attack Mirkwood and in the battle, Eruanna is wounded and dies. (aren't I mean  )

When the story starts, Eliora is wandering around middle earth. She hasn't been home in years nor does she want to be near many people or elves. She is afraid of growing to attached and getting hurt again so she has tons of trouble trusting people, almost to the point of her thinking all people/elves are evil and she'll even do all she can to proove it. So, she normally stays away from people. Here's where I'm begining to need help. I need to find a way to bring her back to Mirkwood. I also need to find a way to get Gwanunig (an elf of Rivendell) up to Mirkwood. I need to have them meet and then they'll fall in love and live happily ever after. How do I bring them to Mirkwood? How do I get them to meet? Should there be a problem? I need help writing this. Can you help me?

You have my sympathy, Jade. Like Goldsand said, it's best to just ignore this person. I don't know what their motives were when they flamed you, but there's no excuse good enough IMO. Being malicious to others is just plain childish. If they can't give constructive critizism, they shouldn't have posted in the first place. I think ff.net gives you the ability to delete bad reviews; maybe you should just remove this and forget about it -- one thing's for sure: you didn't deserve it!

Musicalgal, so far your story sounds pretty good! Just watch out for Mary-Sues! There's always a chance Eliora turns into one... I'd leave Legolas out of it, if I were you. Couldn't she be somebody else's cousin?

But here are some suggestions for the plot, for what they're worth:

I think the easiest way to get Gwanunig to Mirkwood is to simply send him on an errant of some sort. Elrond could have sent him for various reasons (to bring a message, to fetch a message, or some stuff: herbs/books/wine/rare foods/some magical item (which could turn into a threat later on) /as an escort to someone important travelling to Mirkwood/etc.
Though he probably wouldn't travel alone then. But if you want to get rid of an escort, you can do that easily enough too: orc attack/spider attack/storm/possible magical item going crazy/rebellious first mate (OK -- no PotC! But some sort of disagreement with the group of elves)... which would take Gwanunig nicely to Eliora.

Does Eliora need to meet Gwanunig in the court of Thranduil? They might meet in the woods, she might have a better reason for being in there than in public (hunting, for example -- though I'm not sure why she'd want to hunt in dangerous woods, when there are probably safer areas southwards... maybe she hunts spiders as a hobby? Or does she still live in Mirkwood, just not near the elves? ). If Eliora is practically a hermit, she probably wouldn't go to meet the elves of Mirkwood even if she was in great trouble, but she might go if somebody else (i.e. Gwanunig) needed help. Or maybe they won't meet in Mirkwood at all, but closer to Rivendell, somewhere up on the Misty Mountains for example (where they have nice caves for Eliora to live in or hide from conveniently appearing storms, and orcs to attack Gwanunig's escort). But then, why go to Mirkwood instead of returning to Rivendell? Maybe Eliora doesn't like someone in Rivendell, or has painful memories (maybe Eruanna was defending Rivendell instead, or her parents or wounded Eruanna died in there... ), or just wants to finally go back home to Mirkwood when she's in danger... or then Gwanunig's mission is really, *really* important.

These are mostly just random thoughts, but I'm assuming you wanted suggestions, not a ready plot (what'd be the fun in that? ). They're also easy plotlines to fit the love story around, especially if this is your first fic. I'm sure others will give you some help too, so you won't have to rely on my weird visions... in any case, good luck with your story!

I went to your story Jade and (like a few of your reviewers said) it just needs a bit of tweaking. In the first chapter there's about one spelling mistake though 'you wrote to, instead of too' and there was one mistake in the authors note (Ignore me I just get picky over spelling )
I can't think of anything else to say to you except, if you don't have one, get yourself a good bet-reader, one that'll tell you if a characters to mary-sueish and so on.

Lollypop - Yes ff.net allows you to take off reviews but only if they're anonymous, unlike Jade's flamer.

I'm already writing a story which is under much scrutiny since
i hate having Mary Sues.......
But i've got another idea after reading Rotk...
What about a story that branches off from
Faramir and Eowyn?
It would be their story in a Tolkien like way of intertwining
different stories like Frodo and Sam, Merry and Pippin,
and then Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli.
Instead it would be Faramir and Eowyn, Aragorn and Arwen,
and Merry, Pippin, and Sam since there's a considerable amount
of information in the Appendices about the after the end of Lotr.
Does that sound like too much?
It's juss an idea. I don't really think i'll be able to do it...
But if anyone would like to take it up that would be cool.

Hi there. I am trying to write a fan fiction about the romance between Faramir and Eowyn. Only this one is being written from Eowyn's POV. I would like some feedback from others. I would like some advice on how to post it on the web. I also would like to hear peoples opinioins on some of the so called slash genre.

To Faramrisgirl123

I am writing for my own amusement (I don't think I will post it anywhere) a story that contains quite a lot of slash. I started it before I had read any other fanfics thinking I would only write a few pages and I am now on about page 100! Since starting I have read quite a bit of fiction both slash and non slash. The quality is very variable, some of the slash is very erotic and other stuff just makes me bored. I personally don't feel comfortable with the idea of Real person slash but I don't mind playing with the characters. There are also some good articles out there about why people write and read slash and other fan fiction. I am also working on a story which has a lot about Eowyn and Faramir in it. I find the best thing to do is to go through the situation in your head one night and then write it down the next. All the best with your story

Can anyone help me?

I've written a number of fan fictions, but I've only competed about three. Every time I start a new on, I'm totally set on finishing it, and within a few days the idea and the...umpf I had for it goes away. I've got a new idea for a fan fic, but I don't really want to start it and in a few days forget about it and start a new one. It's an endless cycle. Does anyone have any advice on how I can keep my scatterbrain together?

Have you thought about trying to link your ideas together into one story? I have 3 fics on the go and 2 of them could easily fit together. I am not writing mine with the intention of posting them (not yet anyway) but I find that after a while the characters seem to whisper ideas in my ear for a new chapter after that it more or less writes itself but I have to say I wish these guys were better with grammar and spelling!

The best advice for you would depend on why you're having trouble finishing. If you can't figure out how to end it, sometimes you've just got to step back and analyze where the story is now, how it got there, and where it seems to be going. Try looking at the big picture, and it might be a little easier that way. Another important thing to take into consideration is your characters. For example, what are their motivations, what would they do in their current situation? If you honestly can't answer these questions, then you need to get to know your characters a little better. In that case, try to make sure they have personalities. Short stories don't need the characters to be quite as developed as novel length works do, but the characters still need something to them. Even with Tolkein's characters (or whatever book your fanfic is about), you still need to know their basic personality. Anyway, once you've figured that out, often the characters themselves will tell you where the story needs to go. Sometimes the best advice (which only works if you know your characters) is to just let them loose for a while and see where they take you. Just make sure that everything gets resolved.

If your problem is just that you're having a hard time sitting down and finishing, well, all you can really do is just sit down and write. Don't worry about whether it's good or not, just write something. Sometimes when writing you just have to force yourself. Even if it does turn out terrible, something is better than nothing, and you can always go back and revise. So yeah, even if you lost that excitement, you still need to keep writing. It happens, writers tend to lose their enthusiasm about whatever they're writing at times, even if they don't like to admit it. So it's normal. Anyway, just stick to it.

In my story- The Messenger- I've reached a point where I have terrible writers block. I have a little more written, but not enough to submit- anyway, I'm looking for suggestions for the story OR for killing writers block. I've been writing for years, but its different this time because my writing is actually where people can READ it, I guess. suggestions for inspiration, anyone??

Dreamdancer, getting a good idea takes time - if you think of things too easily, that's a sign that your ideas may not be very original
So maybe you don't have writer's block but have simply switched to a more realistic writing pace!

I wanted to get some advice on a story I have been working on. I want to make any adjustment's to the character's if I have to.I also have been using my screen name so far as her name because I can not think of a name for the main character one of them at least.

The stroy is about Haldir's Half elven twins a male and a female.(Syra and Nysil). There mother is mentioned in the very beginning and the end. The twins get seperated and by the grace of the valor survive, but while one ends up in Rivendell, the other ends up in Lothlorien. They both are raised in the two different elven cities. Syra grows up and bonds to Elladan. Nysil bonds to Glorifindel's daughter,Manisilwen. But that is a s far as I can get with the plot line and then my ideas go heywire right now,Syra is now finding out her mother was a member of the valor gods. I do not want this to turn into a mary sue.this si the latest installment I have done.
Elladan picked Syra up as he ran to his horse. Manisilwen looked at Nysil," I am staying with you."
Nysil brought her into a hug and kissed her forehead,"we will face the days of darkness before us together."

Haldir followed Elladan, elrohir trailed behind them. Haldir noticed a slight change in his daughter's apperance but said nothing. A little elfling sat upon the shoulders of glorifindel as the bunch rode into rivendell. Elrond practically ran to meet them,as he took Syra from Elladan carefully. The blade had been poisoned,Elrond ewas able to heal her body of the poison.

Syra rested the rest of the day, that is when the first dream came to her. She was under the tree in valor,as they spoke to her."Your choice is elven so know will you take your birthright." as voice called out.

"Birthright."she said confused, then it seemed she was falling as her eyes cleared and she looked upon familar faces again. Elrond smirked as he brushed a strand of her black bangs aside,as everyone gasped in the room."the mark of Varda."

I’m trying to create a race of people that could have, in theory, existed in Middle-earth at one time. They are called Valkyries. They are native to Middle-earth, and were there even before the Elves came from Valinor. They had close relationships with Elves and Dwarves, and in some cases Men. They weren’t too close to Hobbits at all, because Hobbits kept to themselves.

Valkyries were sort of like Elves. Except they didn’t have the pointed ears, were mortal, and all of them had red hair. Their red hair ranged from golden red, to “carrot tops,” to crimson red. Eye colors were normal. Blue, green, brown, hazel, etc.

Valkyries also had a strong tie to nature, even stronger than the Elves. Their bond with nature was so strong that they could, to a degree, manipulate the elements. Over the centuries, they developed this power, until they were able to control the elements. And their red hair was sort of a physical representation of this power.

Valkyries were also fierce fighters, but, like Hobbits, preferred the quiet life. They loved to learn and read, as well. And in battle, they had a tendency to display a degree of super strength. This is due to the fact that an adrenaline rush would cause them to lose control of their magic. It was sort of an uncontrolled channeling of their power. Also, their strong bond with nature helped them to understand animals. They couldn’t outright speak to them, like Dr. Doolittle, but they could understand them on a deeper level than most races. This depended on the strength of the individual.

The reason there are no more Valkyries in Middle-earth: Sauron wiped them out. About five hundred years before the Last Alliance, Sauron realized that Valkyries were a growing threat. Probably a greater threat than any other race at the time. (I’m assuming Sauron was around then. It seems to me that it took some time for him to manipulate everyone with the Rings he’d given them. But that’s just me.) So he began killing them off at an alarming rate. Not long before the Last Alliance, the last surviving Valkyries gathered their remaining strength and fled Middle-earth for a safer world. They came to Earth, found a nice, quiet corner of the world, and wisely stayed out of history’s way. They knew that, since they weren’t native to Earth, they had to interfere as little as possible.

I’m trying to iron out the details on these people and make them as realistic as I can to fit Middle-earth. Also, I don’t know if I have the history of Elves and the Last Alliance right, either. It’s been a long time since I read the books. Any feedback, tips, or history lessons would be appreciated.

Hey,all those who like fan fic I need some opinions. I am currently writing a fan fic, on a LOTR/Warhammer crossover...(for those of you who do not know what Warhammer is go out to a games workshop store in a mall near you! it is cool) but getting back on topic...the theme has never been used as far as I know (I have read almost every fan fic on this site) and I want to know everyone's opinion on this.
It is quite a bit more grusome then my other story thats for sure.
Your faithful fan fic writer
DesertElf
P.S. If people could just send me PMs that would be much appreciated.
PPS.Oh and how could I forget to tell you a bit about the story? (smacks head) Well it is basically the LOTR FOTR (except Gandalf) go to the Empire world, and there learn what true hardship is about. it is as I said very greusome, as the Warhammer World tends to be bent around death.

Musicalgal, so far your story sounds pretty good! Just watch out for Mary-Sues! There's always a chance Eliora turns into one... I'd leave Legolas out of it, if I were you. Couldn't she be somebody else's cousin?

Okay, with all due respect to Lollypop, our very wonderful fanfic admin, I have to disagree with this. Yes, Legolas is very "used" but let's be honest here, that does not mean people can't and should not write about him.

There is one thing that I really resent about the movies, and it's that if you say Legolas is your favorite character, or you wish to write a story with him in it, with the exception of an Aragorn/Legolas friendship, people roll their eyes and call you a silly fangirl. This isn't a fair assumption, and these ideas should at least be given the benefit of the doubt until proven bad. The old saying holds true here as well as anywhere else, "Don't judge a book by it's cover." (or coverboy, lol)

Frankly, Tolkien left alot of room for character development when it comes to Legolas. I realize there are many people who write about him due to his looks, but there are some, (yes, I would fit this category) that write about him because when they read the books they found him to be interesting and mysterious.

Oh, and I mean no disrespect to Lollypop at all. I think she does an amazing job here. I posted this, trying to be as unoffensive as possible. I just feel that there is a bit of an unfair prejudice when it comes to Legolas. What can I say, I have honestly liked him the best since waaaay before the movies came out and I gotta defend my elf, and his right to star in fanfics, lol.

*Hopes no one takes offense at this post and decides to hurl rocks at her*

Thanks for asking arwen_the_evenstar ... the question hasn't come up before - so I'm not sure. I'll check with the Fan-fiction admins to see if they think this thread can be used for help with non-LotR related fan-fiction, or if perhaps a new thread should be started.

Just a thought, but maybe it could be for all fiction. However, if your story was a non LOTR fi maybe you could just post that you need some help and what genre it's in. then if someone is interested they can pm you. Of course that's up to the admins but that would be one way to handle it.
