RE: Elrond/Hugo Weaving Fans! [Part II] on: February 20, 2005 06:41

The last thing I remember was riding towards a river in a deep valley. Suddenly I heard yells behind me and felt a searing pain in my shoulder. I spurred my horse across the river, ducking a volley of arrows from the opposite bank...behind me I could hear the screams of dying Orcs....Just before I passed out I caught a glimpse of a blond haired male elf who caught me as I fell. I awoke to the sound of waterfalls and birds... a tall dark figure was in the room with me. "Ah you are awake my lady" he said in a deep melodious voice..."how is your shoulder?"
He bent over me his gentle fingers examining the wound. "You will live" he smiled, a beautiful smile that lit up his grey eyes like the stars at night....He bowed and said "I am Elrond and this is Imladris... you are safe now" I took the hand he offered and bowed my head "Thank you my Lord Elrond, I am Landaur". "You are most welcome here, he said and the sadness in his eyes seemed to fade...I believe we are going to be good friends..."
You ALWAYS have to outdo me, don't you???
aw, you lucky thing, I wish that elf would turn up in my dreams...
Are you kidding? I dream of him all the time...
I had a very nice dream about him. It started out bad, but it got better. We were kidnapped and taken to this fortress on an island ... And we all lived happily ever after.
I had another dream just like that, but with a whole lot more detail about our escape. After sneaking out of the fortress, we were faced with the dilemma of getting to shore. By chance, we found a canoe lying randomly on the beach, along with two oars. Climbing into the canoe, we paddled off. But soon the wind picked up, and the water grew choppy. We struggled to keep afloat as thunder growled ominously, and cold rain spattered down onto us.
Suddenly a huge wave capsized our canoe, dumping us into the icy ocean. I clung to Hugo as he kicked hard for the surface, and we came up gasping. A great black shape loomed above us, and the end of a long rope splashed into the water next to us.
Hugo and I carefully ascended the rope, and found ourselves on the deck of a ship, with a tall, muscular man standing above us. He was clad only in baggy pants, with his dark hair tied back from his tanned face. A gold hoop glinted in his right ear, and a dagger was thrust in his belt.
Oh, crap, I thought. "Pirates," I breathed.
The man spoke to us in a gruff voice, his dark eyes darting back and forth as he looked us over. "And just what are two landlubbers such as yerselves doing out here on a night like this? Tain't no fair weather fer sailing, 'specially in a craft like yon canoe. Only reason we're out here is 'cause we were comin' into port when the storm started."
Gazing nervously up at the man, I adopted a voice of fearful childishness, wringing my hands piteously.
"Please sir," I whimpered, "don't harm us. We're prisoners -- we were held captive on that island, and only just escaped. My father and I are injured, starving and thirsty..." (Hugo gave me an odd glance at that) "... and we only ask for some dry clothes, food and water, and a place to spend the night in peace. We mean you no harm."
The pirate nodded slowly, stroking his stubbly chin. "You got a name, missie?" he asked.
Crap, I thought again. Hastily I blurted out the first name that came to mind. "Natalie -- Natalie Hasenpfeffer*. My father's name is Jacob."
"What are you doing?" Hugo hissed. "Since when am I your dad? And what kind of name is Hasenpfeffer?"
"Shhhh!" I whispered. "Just play along, alright? I know almost exactly what I'm doing."
Hugo fell silent, staring at me in confusion. The pirate seemed to buy my story; he nodded again and said, "Well, Miss Hasenpfeffer, you an' yer dad sure chose a bad night to go out boating. I'm Cap'n Jared, an' this is my ship Nighthawk. She's a good craft, fer sure."
I nodded. "Well, er, Cap'n, could you please give us a lift to the mainland? I hope I'm not asking too much -- we'll do what we can to help you in return. I'm a fair cook, and my father is strong. But right now we're both cold, injured, and weak from hunger, sir. Could we please just have a change of clothes and something hot to eat, for now?"
Jared smiled, replying, "Sure ye can, missie. Ahoy, Cabott!" he shouted over his shoulder. "Get these two some grub!"
"Aye aye!" a raucous female voice replied. "I'll get right on it!"
Jared grinned at me as he helped me to my feet. "Cabott's our galley woman. Her stew's good an' hearty -- should get ye fit again. Then we'll see about some clothes for ye. Maybe we can find sumthin' for you, sir-" he nodded to Hugo "-but I ain't sure about you, missie. No-one aboard here is as skinny as you, no offence meant o' course."
"None taken," I shrugged. Just then the woman called Cabott walked up to us holding two bowls of steaming stew, which she handed to us with a wide grin. "There y'are -- enjoy!" She was a rough-looking figure, with a tanned face, bright blue eyes and a manner which suggested she had had a lot of experience looting and plundering, as was traditional pirate behaviour. She nodded appreciatively as Hugo and I tucked readily into our first hot meal in days. "Eat up -- not too fast now, or you'll be sick all over the deck. And I sure ain't cleanin' it up."
"Cabott," Jared asked her, "d'ye think you could lend some clothes to the lass? You're the only woman aboard other than 'er."
"I dunno, Cap'n," Cabott replied slowly, looking me up and down. "She sure wouldn't fit any o' my garb."
"Hmm." Jared frowned. "Well, who else is small enough?"
"How about Lemur?" asked Cabott. "He's a wiry one, right enough."
Jared nodded, staring up into the gale-tossed rigging above us. "Oi, Lemur!" he roared. "Come on down a tick!"
A lean figure swung obediently down from the web of ropes and spars, flipping through the air to land smartly on the deck in front of Jared. "Aye, sir! What d'you need, sir?"
Lemur was a small man, slender but strong-looking. He wore the same kind of breeches as Jared, and a shirt with baggy sleeves to match. A patch of black cloth held by a leather strap covered the place where his right eye had been. Hugo glanced over at me, and I stared back, suppressing a shudder. I looked at Jared as he spoke again. "Lemur, do ye think you could spare some clothes fer Miss Natalie 'ere? You're the only one small enough."
"Sure thing, Cap'n," Lemur replied. "If you'll excuse me, sir..." He hurried away, returning shortly with a shirt and pants over his arm. "Miss, you can wear these. The cabins are empty right now, so ye can change in there."
I nodded, glancing back at Hugo as Lemur escorted me to the cabins. After I changed, I returned to the main deck, where Jared was talking with Hugo.
"...soon as it's light, I'll get Lemur to show ye and yer daughter the ropes. He knows the rigging best. Har, har -- ropes, rigging, get it?" Hugo and I laughed along with the captain, who continued, “And Cabott’ll get Miss Natalie helpin’ her in the galley. What kinda stuff can you cook, miss?” he asked me.
“Well, pancakes are my specialty,” I replied, “but I can cook other things too.”
“Pancakes are good,” Jared nodded. “Well,” he said, turning back to Hugo, “I guess you’ll need some clothes too. You can wear some of mine.”
Hugo nodded, and the captain went on, “Soon as you’re dressed and dried, you can turn in for the night. There’s some spare room in the cabins, I think.”
“Captain,” said Hugo, “you and your friends have been very kind to us. We’ll do whatever we can to repay the debt.”
“Always glad to lend a helpin’ hand,” Jared replied. “G’night.”
To Be Continued, next time…

Far over the Misty Mountains cold, to dungeons deep and caverns old. We must away ere break of day, to claim our long forgotten gold.
