Hej Frida!
Jag är också från Sverige. Kul att hitta nån mer härifrån. Forumet är verkligen jättebra! Ett bra svenskt forum om Sagan om ringen finns på bio.nu, många intressanta diskussioner.

Hej alla!

I'm actually from Finland, but I think I qualify as a Nordic person

I know it's fun to speak in our own languages for a change (gives you the feeling of community, or something...), but I'd like to ask you to use English while on CoE forums. Remember that MOST of our members do not speak Swedish (or Danish, or Norwegian) including most of the forum moderators.

They are the people who need to watch over the boards to make sure we are safe (not getting insulted or abused), and do a very important work (all hail the mods! ), so lets not make it any harder by using foreign languages

Also it's not fun to the members who might be interested in this particular thread, but don't speak Scandinavian languages

OK, sorry about the lecture... Auntie Lolly gets carried away sometimes... I just came here to say a big hello to all the Scandis (and an occasional Finn).

By the way, I've heard some rumours about a new Swedish translation of LoTR. Have any of you read it all ready? Is it better than the old one (I hope so)?

Föresten hur länge har du vart med i "The Council Of Elrond"

Jo en fråga bara vad heter han som spelar Haldir.

Namari Frida.

Like Lolly stated earlier, and I agree on, this is not the place to have conversations in other languages than English.
I'm norwegian, so yes, i understand all you have so far said, but I can assure you that 99% of the rest of the members wont.
"We all speak or can type in English and that is the basic language of our communication."

This note is taken from the Forum Decorum, to be found in the Newbies Forum, under "Overall Board Rules". I suggest you all read that, and in the future, please use the PM system to talk to each other in other languages.
Thanks!

Ok, ok, I couldn't read any of the non-English stuff , but I am interested in Lollypop's question: can you all explain what the deal is with the Swedish translation? What was wrong with it? I hadn't really heard anything about it, although I've heard that many Japanese fans were upset with their translation. And do you know if it's being re-translated?
Just curious

Here's some info on the new swedish translation:
The authors Erik Andersson and Lotta Olsson Anderberg are working on the new translation of the trilogy. "The fellowship of the ring" will be out in the stores in the autumn of 2004.

And yes.. Sweden is a great country to live in!

can you all explain what the deal is with the Swedish translation? What was wrong with it?

To make a long story short, this translation was made by a very learned man who, amoung other things, decided that if he´d use the word "hobbit" it would have the reades thinking of ancient peoples as "hettites". It is also said that the transation has about 2000 errors - a striking one is misreading "she" as "he", thus implying that the nazgûl lord was killed not by Eowyn but by Merry (!). The translator also uses an unecessarily complicated language and sentence structure. A disturbing fact is also that he later became very bitter and wrote books about how bad Tolkien was and that Tolkien-fans were murderes and nazis (!).
His geographical names are very good, though.

And yes, I´m from Sweden too, of course. And I´m a Haldir fan like many of you.

Was it good that Arwen came instead of Glorfindel.
Or the oposite.
What do you think.

That´s it now we have a subject.

finally, something to discuss!

I really adore Arwen and everything, but I wish they hadn't changed that bit. Glorfindel is really cool in the book.

that's what I think, anyway.

I agree i love Glorfindel and then PJ didn't includ him in the movie. And i think the whole Arwen Aragorn lovestory is exaggerated. i like Arwen too tho

Okey, I don't have anything against Arwen, but I wanted that Glorfindel should go and get Frodo... When Arwen did that it makes her look a little bit like Eówyn... Like a girlboy! In the books they make her more like sit home, listen to your father, go to bed early and that! I don't know what you think...?!
