RotK EE wins 3 DVDX Awards

The ‘Return of the King’ Extended Edition DVD won three awards at the 5th Annual DVD Exclusive Awards on Wednesday; the awards were won in the categories for Best Overall DVD: New Movie, Best Audio Commentary (Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh & Philippa Boyens), and Best New Movie Scenes.

Tolkien – the UK’s most borrowed classic author in 2004

The Public Lending Right organisation have published their top ten lists of the most borrowed authors and titles in the UK in 2004. Whilst Tolkien does not make either of these lists his Lord of the Rings books did make him the most borrowed classic author. You can read the full story at independent.co.uk.

Third annual Tolkien lecture

The third annual Tolkien lecture will take place on 28th April at The Michael Tippett Centre, Bath Spa University College, Bath, UK. Dwight Longenecker will speak about ‘The Journey of the Spiritual Hero – using JRR Tolkien for personal and spiritual growth’ and the talk will be illustrated with clips from the LotR movies. Tolkien authority speaks in St. Louis

Tom Shippey, a leading authority on J.R.R. Tolkien, science fiction and fantasy, will present his talk on “Tolkien, Peter Jackson, Palantirs, and Boethius” this Thursday, February 10th at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Professor Shippey has published two books on Tolkien, as well as several books and many articles on medieval topics. He acted as consultant to the Jackson movies on pronouncing the many names in many languages, and features extensively on the backup disks of all three extended-version movie DVDs. The evening lecture is free and open to the public.
