LotR makes the greatest “100 Movies of All Time” list

Time Magazine has included the Lord of the Rings trilogy in their list of the greatest ‘100 Movies of All Time’.

Tolkien Studies – volume 2 now available

Volume 2 of Tolkien Studies: An Annual Scholarly Review is now available for purchase. Hobbit motel rooms

The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar

The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar is due to launch in 2006. IGN has a report of a demo of the initial game experiences which include rescuing an imprisoned hobbit named Celadine Brandybuck and a trip to the Mad Badger Tavern.

Ent statue plans get a mixed reception

IcBirmingham report that plans to put up a 25ft statue of an Ent on the village green in Moseley, UK have resulted in a split in the local community. Local business and resident groups have backed the proposal but heritage campaigners object to the statue’s size.

The proposal for the statue was designed by Tim Tolkien, JRR Tolkien’s great nephew. It is proposed that the cost of the statue (£30,000) will be raised via internet sales of metallic leaves which will be engraved with the name of the purchaser and placed at the feet of the Ent.

LotR guidebook is a best-seller

When it was originally published in 2002, author Ian Brodie expected to sell about 10,000 copies of the Lord of the Rings Location Guidebook. However, sales have now reached 275,000 copies. You can read more about the book and its sequels at Stuff.co.nz.

Ticket sales for LotR approach $4 million

Tickets for the stage version of the Lord of the Rings went on sale on Sunday and Playbill News report that about 40,000 tickets have been sold to date netting nearly $4 million with about $1 million being generated from online sales. Executive producer Kevin Wallace commented that he was, “…absolutely thrilled. It’s a fantastic response and an affirmation of the worldwide interest in this production.”
