"Almost certainty of death(?)....small chance of success...what are we waiting for?" - Gimli

"That still only counts as one!" - Gimli

"Shall I describe it to you? Or shall I find a box?" - Legolas

"Great! Where are we going?" - Pippin

"We have agreed that you are not Orcs." -Treebeard
"Well, that's good." - Pippin

"I'm going to kill him, Stand aside, I'm going to kill him....God bless you!" - Gimli (Something like that)

Pippin-"I feel like I'm back at the Green Dragon after a hard days work"
Merry-"Only, you've never done a hard days work!"
Oh, That part is sooo funny!!! And the way they laugh!!!!!

Alot of my favorite scenes have already been mentioned. it seems to me that Gimili and Pippin are like the comic releif in the movies. WOOHOO short people rock lol. Here are a couple of my favs.

Gimili: Us dwarves are natural crosscountry sprinters, very dangerous over short distances!

Gimili: Legolas I got 2!
Lego:I'm on 17
Gimili: I'll have no pointyear out scoring me
*then he continues to count*
What I found even funnier is that they still counted in ROTK

Lego:Final count..42*looking quite full of himself*
Gimli: Ah thats not bad for a pointy eared elvish princling, I my self am sitting pretty on...43.
L*pulls out and arrow and shoots the Orc Gimili is sitting on* 43
G:He was already dead
L:He was twitching
G:He was twitching because he's got my axe imbedded in his nervous system!

The scene where Eowyn is trying to serve Gimili some stew and he's like "No, No I couldn't" And Aragorn ends up trying it and gets a rather sick look on his face.

Pippin: I had the loveliest dream last night. There was this large barrel full of pipeweed. And we smoked it all. And then...you were sick.*to merry*
*Merry here's a tree talking*
Mid you hear that? There it is again. Somethings not right here. Not right at all.
*Pippin stretches*
M:You just said something...treeish.
P: No i didn't. I was stretching.
M: Your taller.
P:Who?
M:You!
P:Than what?
M: Than me!
P; I've always been taller than you
M: Everyone knows I'm the tall one, Your the short one
Please Merry your what. 3'6? At the most? Whereas I'm pushing 3'7 (groans)...Oh 3'8.
M:3'8? You did something!

After the fall of Iszengard

M:He doesn't look happy does he?
P:No not to happy at all Merry
M:Still I suppose the view would be quite nice up there
P:Oh yes it's a quality esptablishment, I here the staff are very good.
*Merry measures his height to see he is now taller than Pip*
P:What are you doing?
M;Nothing. The worlds back to normal thats all.
P:No it's not...I'm starving
*Pip finds apples and it leads them to Sarumans storeroom where they find 2 barrels of Longbottom leaf*
P:It's perfectone barrel each! Wait, Do you think we shold share with treebeard.
M*looks around* Share it? No, No. Dead plants and all could be a distant relative.
P;Oh I see. Don't be hasty.

Those are it Fuuuuuuuuuny ok yep.
*Sorry for misspells*

I shall progress through the entire trilogy...

Fellowship

Bilbo: "I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve."

Pippin: "What's that?"
Merry: "This, my friend, is a pint."
Pippin: "It comes in pints?"
Merry: *muffled 'mm'*
Pippin: "I'm getting one!"

Frodo: "I think a servant of the Dark Lord would look fairer, and feel fouler."
Merry: "He's foul enough!"

Pippin: "You need people of intellegance on this kind of mission ... quest ... thing."
Merry: "Well that rules you out, Pip."

Pippin: "Right - where are we going?"

Gimli: "Dwarf doors are invisible when closed."
Gandalf: "Yes, Gimli, even their own masters cannot find them if their secrets are forgotten."
Legolas: "Now why doesn't that surprise me?"

Gimli: "Argh! Not the beard!"

Legolas: "Lembas - Elven waybread. One small bit is enough to fill the stomach of a grown man." *nibbles a bit and walks off*
Merry: "How many did you eat?"
Pipping: "Four." *farts*

Towers

Gimli: "Keep breathing, Gimli, that's the key! Breath!"

Gollum: "What's it doing? Stupid fat Hobbit!"

Gimli: "You could have picked a better spot!"

Gimli: "What's happening out there?"
Legolas: "Shall I describe it to you - or would you like me to find you a box?"
Gimli: *laughs*

Gimli: "Aww, come on, we can take 'em!"
Aragorn: "It's a long way."
Gimli: "Toss me."
Aragorn: "What?"
Gimli: I canno' jump the distance, you'll have to toss me!"
Aragorn: *goes to grasp Gimli*
Gimli: "O - er - don't tell the Elf."
Aragorn: "Not a word."

I shall do the rest tomorrow - need to go to bed now...

Pippin has the best ones, for sure! "It comes in pints?!" In the pub at Bree.
"Don't talk to it Merry, don't encourage it!" When he sees Treebeard.
"Great...where are we going?" When told by Elrond that they will be the fellowship of the ring.
Oh and not very Tolkien-esque but you have to love it..."That still only counts as one!" Gimli, RotK.

Gimli: It still only counts as one!
That one's really funny and really well done by John.

I also like Gimli's line about no one tossing a Dwarf. I know, a lot of people HATE the line, but I like humourous lines that lighten up the situation!

Also, a lot of what Pippin says I laugh at! He's one of those characters who doesn't do a whole lot but add humour- which is a lot, I suppose.

As an absolute Aragorn adorer and as I argue with my friends all the time about whether Aragorn or Legolas is better. The FUNNIEST line to me is:

"Havo dad Legolas"

The absolute funniest line in the entire trilogy is hands down:

'A diversion.' -Legolas, realizing what Aragorn's plan is

Actually, a lot of Legolas' lines are funny to me. I don't know if it's the delivery or just the actual line, but oy they make me laugh. Like the, 'This forest is old... very old. Full of memory, and ANGUH,' from The Two Towers.

P: I feel like I'm back at the Green Dragon after a hard day's work.
M: Only one problem. You've never done a hard day's work (both break out laughing) My sister and I both think that this is probably the funniest part in all the trilogy.

Haha! I agree! "Captain Obvious Legolas". Smack Jackson for giving him such stupid lines! "A Diversion"!? No, Legolas, it's a Fruitcake!

Actually, what I find hilarious is the TTT:EE line of Gimli's when Eowyn offers him some soup and AFTER he says "No, no I couldn't", he mutters "I really couldn't" as he walks away.

When I watched the TTT:EE for the first time, I could not stop laughing at Merry and Pippin's comic relief scenes!! They're so hilarious.

I loved the scenes when the two hobbits argue over the Entwash and when they've just found the pipeweed in Isenguard (Pip: oh i get it *taps nose* don't be hasty!). Freaken hilarious!

I always laugh when Gandalf says to Denethor, "Authority is not given to you to deny the return of the king, Steward."

Maybe it's the way Gandalf emphasizes "steward," or maybe it's how successful he is in ticking off Denethor, but that is a funny line.

Merry to Pippin: "You've done something!"

Nothing else in the movies ever came close to how much I laughed at that point

I love when Pippin says "The closer we are to danger, the farther we are from harm." It's the speed at which he says it.

"... [lambas bread] could fill a man with one bite"
Merry:"How many did you have?"
Pip:"4."

love that

I like all the ones you guys have said, but I can't believe no one mentioned this one!
When the Rohirrim are gathered at Dimwold, Merry is swinging his sword, and tells Eowyn that it really isn't all that sharp, and she tells him, "off to the smithy". As he's walking out, Eomer and Gamling[I think] are sitting and eating. Eomer says "You should not encourage him", and Eowyn says "You should not doubt him". Eomer says, "I don't doubt his courage, only the reach of his arm"............ I absolutely die everytime I hear that one!!

Pippin:
Frodo! Merry - It's Frodo Baggins!
Merry:
Hello, Frodo.
Sam:
Get off him! Come on, Frodo.
Frodo:
What's the meaning of this?
Merry:
Hold these.
Sam:
You've been into Farmer Maggot's crop!
Farmer Maggot:
Oi! You get back here! Get out of my fields! You know what's gonna happen when I catch up with you?
Merry:
I don't know why he's so upset. It's only a couple of carrots
Pippin:
And some cabbages. And then those three bags of potatoes we lifted last week, and, and, the mushrooms, the week before!
Merry:
Yes, Pippin, my point is, he's clearly overreacting! Run

hahahah I love that one sooo much. Tres funny!!!

Oh, there's too many funny lines!

Merry: What? That was just a detour, a shortcut.
Sam: To what?
Pippin: Mushrooms!

Gimli: Well, here's one dwarf she won't ensnare so easily. I have the eyes of a hawk and the ears of a fox.
Haldir: The dwarf breathes so loud, we could have shot him in the dark.

Pippin: What's that?
Merry: This, my friend, is a pint.
Pippin: It comes in pints? I'm getting one.

Gimli: Well, this is a thing unheard of. An Elf would go underground, where a Dwarf dare not. Oh, I'd never hear the end of it.

And of course, all those already posted, and a whole bunch of others.

all the movies have really funny parts...
in the ttt EE:
Legolas: Final count.... 42.
Gimli: Forty-two? Oh, that's not bad for a pointy-eared Elvish princeling. I myself am sitting pretty on 43.
Legolas: Forthy-three.
Gimli: He was already dead.
Legolas: He was twitching.
Gimli: He was twitching because he's got my ax embedded in his nervous system!

also when eowyn gives aragorn "good soup" and he tries to get rid of it.

legolas: shall i desribe it to you, or would you like me to find you a box?

pippin: so where are we going?

gimli: did they hit anything?

aragorn: its the beards!

just to mention some..

In Moria, when they stop cause' Gandalf can't remember the way:

Pippin: *whispering* are we lost?
Merry: *whispering* no.
Pippin: I think we are.
(a few seconds later)
Pippin: Merry, I'm hungry..

I thought that was hilarious! :rolling:
but there was a lot more!

There are so many funny lines in all the movies! Merry and Pippin and Legolas and Gimli get the funniest ones, I reckon.

~The start of RotK, when Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli and Gandalf find Merry and Pippin smoking . and Gimli's like, 'you rascals' (thats what he says, isnt it?) and Merry's like, 'the salted pork is especially good' and Gimli's like, 'Salted Pork!'
~'Certainty of death. Small chance of success. What are we waiting for?' hehe that cracks me up.
~The big one. The one and only, Elrond's 'death glare' when Merry and Pippin run past him at the council of elrond. I just dont know why that makes me laugh so much. And then afterwards when Pippin says, 'Right. Where are we going?'
~The 'Toss me' scenes. hehe
~The final tally with legolas and Gimli. '...he was twitching, because he had my axe embedded in his nervous system!!'
~The pint scene
~The second breakfast scene

and that's to name a few...

All my fav. ones have been mentioned already about a hundred times but I just have one curioius thing to mention: Aragorn seems to have a thing about tossing Gimli, doesn't he??
In the Fellowship, he tries to toss Gimli in Moria, and in TT he ends up tossing him anyway...

I just thought that was interesting...

Basically anything merry/pippen says, that still only counts as one. I mean no one said that still only counts as one. Oh and certainty of death, small chance of sucess, what are we waiting for? Shall I describe it to you, or would you like me to find you a box?

My favorite line of all the films is in FOTR when Boromir comes running back into the room the Fellowship are in, in Moria. His face looks so funny when he's like:

"They have a cave-troll."

theres so many funny lines, which everyone has mentioned at some point. Any scene with pippin or gimli, like in the TT arogorn is talking totheoden at its getting a bit heated and then Gimli burps. Also when they are going through the paths ot the dead and gimli is left and he says" an elf will go underground when a dwarf dare not, oh id never hear the end of this" that made me laugh. I also liked the bit with sam and frodo after the climb down the rope in the EE, frodo catches a box with solt in it and sam says its for "roast chicken."

many of the ones that have already been mentioned, I would have said, but here's a few more:

Sam: Mr. Frodo's not going anywhere without me.
Elrond: No, indeed. It is hardly possible to separate you, even when he is summoned to a secret council and you are not.

Gandalf : I once knew every spell in all the tongues of Elves... Men... and Orcs.
Pippin : What are you going to do, then?
Gandalf : Knock your head against these doors, Peregrin Took! And if that does not shatter them, and I am allowed a little peace from foolish questions, I will try to find the opening words.

Gandalf: Of all the inquisitive Hobbits, Peregrin Took, you are the worst!

Gimli: Where do you think you're going?
Aragorn: Not this time Gimli.
Legolas: Have you learned nothing of the stubbornness of Dwarves?
Gimli: You might as well accept it. We're going with you, laddie.

when Pippin kills an orc when Gandalf's back is turned, so Gandalf says, "Guard of the Citadel indeed."

Gimli coughing when he hears Aragorn's plan

Gandalf hitting Pippin with his staff as he told him to get up

that's it for now

Okay, well...this is probably going to leave some people scratching their heads but I always burst into laughter in ROTK when Legolas says:

"It's a diversion!" (after Aragorn tells his plan about storming Moria)

It's like, we already figured that out, but thanks. LOL. He just says it so assuredly like nobody else had realized what Aragron was planning. Way to state the obvious. I guess the humor is all in the context...or my head.

In addition to most that have been posted, one of my favorites is from FOTR EE. They have just left Bree and Sam and Merry (I think) are giving Frodo a hard time about trusting Aragorn.

How do we know we can trust him?
Frodo says I think something foul would seem fairer.
One says "He seems pretty foul to me."
