"Yes, that dress is absolutlly beautiful!, where did you get it?" inquired Arnissë to mirendë. "I can't wait until tonight, it is going to be so much fun!, I am going to go change in your bathroom, you can use your room if you like. Then we should do our hair, we need to hurry up or we are going to be late!" said Arnissë.

She then woundered if she sould go back to the houses of healing to check up on things, but then quickly put her work out of her mind. She tehn got up to go into their bathrooms. She quickly changed and got back to Mirendë's room.

Mirendë changed quickly into her light blue gown, after Arnissë left. She twirled around, apreciateing the dress's lovely weight and the way it billowed slightly when she spun. She imagined dancing with that curteous stranger who had invited them to outing. She tried on several different neclaces, finally settling upon none at all. She sat on the bed waiting impatiently for Arnissë when her friend walked through the door looking stunning in her red dress. It accented her dark hair and eyes beautifully. She patted the bed beside her. "Come I'll do your hair, and then you can do mine," she said getting out her brush. She brushed her friends hair out completely, watching as it gently hung in perfect waves. "You know, I think it would look best if you just left your hair down. It goes nicely with the red dress. Here," she handed over the brush, "I'm thinking maybe a braided bun with some curls left by my ears. You agree?"

Arnissë agreed that her hair looked best down. She stood up and looked in the mirror across the room, she was so excited, she loved to dance. She then went to do Mirendë's hair, it was so beautiful and soft, she wished that her hair was like that.

When she finished she told Mirendë to look in the mirror, Arnissë thought that this was her best work yet. She had made sure the hair was tight but not to tight, she had made sure that the braids had no split ends sticking out. SHe then asked mirendë what she tought. "So....what so you think" Arnissë hoped that she liked it, they really needed to get going to the ceremony dance.

Mirendë squealed excitedly. "Oh, its lovely, Arnissë. I think your best work yet." Then she hurried to her jewelry box, pulling out a beautiful golden necklace inset with rubies. "Here you can wear this one, but be careful. That came from my grandmother on my father's side." She glanced out the window and noticed that the sun was beginning to set on the horizon. "Come. We'd best hurry. We don't want to keep them waiting.

She hurried out of her house back towards the area the ceremonies had been earlier, now practically devoid of life though.

[[Ah, please don't die, thread!!! I'll just sort of rush Gellam and his friends along to the ceremonies so ayla and ancalime don't have to keep waiting. Sorry if I use anyones character too much, too...I can change anything if I need to. I hope this makes sense...Since my brain is fried, but at least everyone's here now.]]

Despite all of Gellam's efforts, Naurind didn't cheer up much. Ameon and Mellodin, on the other hand, were glad to have Gellams help in inviting girls of their choice to the little "party" they had arranged before the ceremonial dance [[ball...? I'm not sure...]]. Gellam himself was looking forward to the festivities, but in a more offhand way. Though he tried to be modest, he knew he could more or less choose whichever girl he wanted, so he was content to make his friends happy.

The festivities of the occassion, and of course the duties of the cavalrymen carried them through most of the day. Soon, Gellam noticed it was not far from dusk. "Ah, my friends," he said, "we should start to get in a festive sort of mind...For it shall be dark soon, and that's when the fun really starts," at this, he playfully raised his eyebrows, one of his most expressive features, "Some of the lovely ladies that were kind enough to join us tonight will be at the main avenue [[we'll say that was where the ceremonies were, eh?]] just before dark. You'd all do well do be there. Mellodin mumbled something about needing to return home to prepare, and he and Ameon left, after promising to return before sundown. Then Naurind, too, went his way, which was no surprise to Gellam, for Naurind was always impeccably groomed at any sort of ceremony. Gellam, however, never put too much work into his appearance. He wandered around the empty streets for a bit, before finally heading home to change into somehting formal, only because he had nothing else to do, and it wasn't near enough to dark to go to the main avenue yet.

It didn't take Gellam long to wash, dress in a more formal attire and run his hands through his shoulder length hair in lieu of a brush, but by the time he was done, he decided it was late enough for him to start off. After rubbing on a light scent (the one "fancy" thing Gellam did wear regularly) and grabbing a flask of mead and a few flowers from a vase, Gellam set jauntily out the door. By the time he'd met Naurind (dressed, of course, in full plumage), Ameon and Mellodin (both looking shy, but hopeful), it was already dusk, the four men quickened their stride and began to pass the flask of mead. When they reached the main avenue, Gellam was pleased to see two young women in very fine dresses walking, whispering and giggling a short way down the street. "Look," said softly to his companions, "Those are the girls...Well, two of them. Do you approve Naurind?" Gellam was pleased to see a small smile on his friend's face. "Here," he shoved the flask at Mellodin, "I'll be back..." With that Gellam jogged down the street towards Mirend and Arniss. When he reached them, Gellam bowed low, kissed each girls hand, and then, with great flourish, presented Mirendë and then Arnissë with a flower. "It was ever so kind of you to come, Ladies," he greeted them, "Here are my companions, Naurind, captian of the cavalry," he pushed Naurind foward, adding as much flourish as he dared without sounding too mocking, "And here, are Ameon and Mellodin.

((I'm going to start before the party and work up to it))

Ameon looked at himself in the mirror as he changed for the fourth time. He looked so plain, and so short compared to Naurind or Gelman.

"But it will have to do," he said to himself.

He wallked over to Mellodin's house. Mellodin came out and together they walked in silence, both pondering how the evening would turn out.
-------------
Jumping to the intro duction. "And this is Ameon and Mellodin," Gelam said.

"Er, hi there girls," Ameon said, bowing, to kiss their hands, after kissing it he looked up at the second girl as he finished kissing her hands, she had her hair up in a pretty bun. Both of them seemed pleased with what he was doing, He smiled and then tripped. He hadn't been concentrating enough on going up and was thinking too much of other stuff.

"Oh, excuse me," he said as he got up and brushed dirt from his pants. His cheeks were red.

Mirendë just barely stiffled a giggle as one of the young men, Ameon or Mellodin she wasn't sure, tripped and fell on his face. Guys could be so clutzy at times. However her main attention was on the one Gellam introduced as Naurind, captian of the cavalry. He was so handsome and even the way he stood radiated athority.

After the men had made their introductions she decided to introduce herself and her friend. "Mirendë," she said, dropping down into a curtsy which was somewhat tricky with a flower in her hand but she managed. "And my friend here is Arnissë. We're very please we could come to such an outing," she added her gaze fixed on Naurind

((And the love triangles begin to unfold...))

Gellam's eyes were fixed on the gorgeous blonde girl as she introduced herself as Mirendë and curtsied low. Her hair, the color of spun gold, was in an elegant bun. Her pale blue dress hugged her curves perfectly and accented her eyes stunningly. It was a moment before Gellam realized that the introductions were complete, and that he should say something.

"As we're so very pleased to have you," he looked pointedly at Mirendë as he said this, "But now, enough of this talk...We ought to start to make our way there, else we shall be more than fashionably late." Despite his slightly rough appearance, Gellam's manner was suave and polished. Grinning -- for he was much more at home in this atmosphere than at a formal parade or dinner -- Gellam offered his arm towards the ladies.

It took Naurind a lot more time to get dressed and ready for the evening than to Gellam. He shaved very carefully and put on his ceremonial uniform. A glance in the mirror... No, not good enough. With wet hands he brushed his wavy blonde hair back form his face. There. This was better. Then the wide cavalry-man's belt with his father's sword that was polished to shine... Another look in the mirror before leaving - perfect.

As usually, Naurind was the first to come, Mellodin was there a few moments later, and Ameon came running.

"Sorry for being late," he apologized.

"Don't worry, you're not late," Mellodin said, "Gellam still hasn't showed up."

And there he came, with a smile on his face, slowly walking, as if he weren't late at all. Naurind shot up his eyebrow at Gellam's looks, but his friend only shrugged. Oh well...

When Gellam hurried to meet the two approaching girls, Naurind looked at them with interest. Knowing Gellam, they must be gorgeous. And they were. Two very different yet equally beautiful young women. Naurind sighed as Ameon tripped. This was why he was always being protecive of his friend...

Gellam extended his arm towards the ladies, and the dark-haired Arnisse eagerly accepted it. Mellodin hurried to offer his elbow to the blonde - Mirende, if Naurind wasn't mistaken - and followed the other couple. With a naughty grin, Naurind offered his elbow to Ameon: "Shall we?"

"Right!" Ameon pushed Naurind away playfully. They strode side by side after Gellam and Mellodin. Naurind relaxed a little. He was happy he wasn't supposed to court a woman. He hated to do that.

((Lets get this going again))

At the ceremony, ball thing..."Would you care to dance?" Ameon asked Mirende. He hoped to raise the way the girls now thought of him in his dancing. He allways thought of himself as a good dancer, so he was sure he could impress them this way...he hoped.

Mirendë bit her lip, looking longingly after Naurind. She wanted to dance with him not this clutz who would probably step on her toes. She gave a slight shrug. The man had asked nicely so she would comply. She smiled charmingly and offered her hand. "It would be my pleasure." Dancing was one of those things that came naturally to this beautiful girl. It took no effort for her to float across the floor, spinning elegantly, and making all the single men swoon.

Mellodin offered his arm to the blond, Mirende, and they walked together. Mellodin felt awkward, like he was supposed to be doing or saying something he wasn't. He was relieved when he finally let go and Mirende went of to dance with Ameon. She had said yes to Ameon, but Mellodin noticed she didn't look too happy about it and thought he saw her steal a longing glance towards Naurind.

Mellodin moved closer to watched them. Mirende was beautiful, gliding across the floor so spectacularly. He watched her entranced until the music finally ended and she and Ameon walked of the dance floor. Mellodin saw her friend, Arnisse, standing by the floor looking lonely. He approached her.

Gathering his nerves, he asked her, "Would you like to dance?"
He stood waiting anxiously for a reply.

((Grrr...I meant to post sooner, but somehow after I'd typed a whole long response, I deleted it all! So I haven't gotten around to it till now))

Gellam watched with slight annoyance as Ameon approached the gorgeous blonde Mirendë. His annoyance deepened as when he saw her heading towards the dance floor with him. Of all the girls here, Gellam thought, did he really have to choose her? She's so clearly out of his league! Quickly, Gellam mastered his emotions; it was not like him to ever hold things against his friends. No, he should be glad for his companion. Ameon was a good man and certainly deserving of a dance with a pretty girl.

Gellam then saw Arnissë dancing with Mellodin. He tried not to think bitterly this time, but he couldn't help being slightly miffed. This was unusual. Gellam appraised the girls that were watching him from a distance and finally settled on a pretty, but rather plain looking, brown-haired girl. Gellam walked towards her, asked for a dance as, as expected, she giggled and obliged. However, the girl (Marnë, was it?) seemed to do nothing but blink and shuffle her feet, so after one song Gellam excused himself and made for the ale. Finally managing to shake off the lasses that seemed to trail him wherever he went, Gellam settled himself at a long table with a draught of ale. The evening didn't seem to be going his way so far, but Gellam wasn't about to let that get to him. Hopefully the more formal songs would be over soon, for he was much more suited to the more lively, roguish folk-dances they would play later in the evening.

Arnissë was gald when she was asked to dance, but she couldn't help but feel that she shouldn't be dancing with him,
Mellodin she corrected herself. When the dance was over Arnissë went over to a table to sit down, she need to rest for a little while...

Mirendë soon finished with Mellodin and was about to go see if she could find Naurind but was immediately again asked to dance by a complete stranger. She wanted to moan and roll her eyes, but chivalry prompted her to take his hand. He swirled her across the floor, and only with deft swiftness was she able to keep her feet from being squished. He was rambling on about some farm of his, but Mir wasn’t paying any attention. She nodded at points where it seemed appropriate, her eyes constantly searching for that handsome young man she had set her heart on.

((Sorry to play for your char, Ayla, I just wanted to move it along a bit, you can feel free to change her lines in your post...Please, do if you'd want anything at all different. ))

Gellam was taking a deep drink from his flagon when he noticed the pretty dark-haired girl, Arnissë, sit down at a table a bit farther down. The liquor he'd already consumed had cleared his head a bit and lightened his mood. She did, Gellam noticed, and was surprised he hadn't noticed before, look very pretty indeed. Emptying his mug in one last swallow, Gellam rose and strode over to the table where Arnissë sat, his gait radiating confidence.

Suavely, Gellam slid onto the bench where Arnissë sat, almost startling her, since she had not seen him approach. "So, Lady Arnissë," he began, "the dancing was not all you expected?"

The girl flushed slightly, embarrassed. Had her distaste at dancing with that man been so obvious? "Oh, my, er, no, it was lovely, the dancing. I love to dance. I was just tired and I thought I'd rest a bit," she tried to cover.

"I see," Gellam observed with a piercing gaze, "Well, do you feel rested enough to take a walk with me?" He held out his hand genteelly.

Rather than formally escorting her, arm in arm, Gellam took Arnissë's hand in his and lead her outside of the crowded hall. The streets of Minas Tirith were deserted, but looked strangely beautiful and alluring bathed in moonlight.

Gellam and Arnissë walked along the perimeter of the gathering hall, first. Light, laughter and the smell of ale spilled from the doorways. Gellam lead them to a quieter spot in one of the city's upper tiers. He came here often. It was a small alcove with a lovely vista. The only light was was the moon; it seemed a lovely place to chat. Gellam perched himself on a wall, before helping Arnissë up to sit beside him.

"So, tell me about yourself, Lady Arnissë?" he said, striking a conversation.

Ameon was proud of his dancing, he had gotten through it without further making a fool of himself. That was an accomplishment. He went over to the food and had some stuff to eat. In a little while he'd try Mirende again. From what he knew of girls she seemed to like him.

"Well" stamered Arnissë still taking in the beauty of the city at night.
"I am healer in the houses of healing." That was all Arnissë could think of to say, to her it didnt seem very interesting, she hoped that it sounded more interesting then it seemed. She paused and look up (because Gellam was taller) to Gellam and waited for a reply.....

((Teehee @ Frodogal))

"Mmm," Gellam mused, "And how do you like it there?"

"Oh, why it's very interesting, there's so much to learn. I quite like it," she replied, "And...What about yourself?"

"How lovely. Oh, myself...Well, there's not much to tell that you can't already see," Gellam dismissed the question. He realized now that he was sitting very close to Arnissë and twirling her long wavy hair in his fingers. This was not like him. Not like the usual, jovial, cheery, never-takes-anything-seriously, always-flirting-but-never-settling-down, gets-what-he-wants Gellam. He couldn't count how many girls he'd brought to this little outcropping, but they were mostly brief encounters filled with "activity." The mead must've been getting to Gellam. Either that or the moon.

Shaking his head and breathing heavily, Gellam sat up suddenly. Trying not to seem any different, he turned to Arnissë, "What do you say we return to the hall and check back up on the dancing? Mayhaps they've started playing some livlier music; I much prefer that."

Arnissë was startled at the studden movement in Gellam. WHen he suggensted that they go back to dance Arnissë aggred, she would like it if they were now playing more livlier music now also. They then left and headed back to the dance.

Mellodin was surprised when Arnisse accepted his offer. He offered her his arm and they began to dance. Mellodin was clumsy at first, as he had never danced to music this slow before, but he began to get it after a while.

When he was confident enough to look up from making sure he didn't step on her feet, Mellodin noticed Arnisse wasn't looking very happy. A frown of distaste, not unlike the one he had seen on Mirende, was on her face. Mellodin was relieved when the music ended, and seeing Arnisse happily talking with Gellam, he stepped outside.

The full moon shined beautifully from above, casting a silver glow on the city. Soon Mellodin heard voices coming from nearby, and he decided to go over and see who it was. He saw Gellam there, and Arnisse. They couldn't see him, so he crept closer and squinted to see better in the dim light. Gellam was leaning closer to her, twirling something around his fingers. Was it her hair? Yes, it was. Mellodin was perplexed. Gellam didn't usually act like this. He headed back to the dance hall, confused and slightly shaken, wondering if he should tell Ameon or Naurind.

((*Meep* Don't die!))

When he and Arnisse reached the crowded hall again, Gellam was glad to hear more lively, spirited music wafting towards them. Once inside, Arnisse excused herself breifly, so Gellam made for the ale table. Upon seeing his comrade, Gellam strode up to Naurind, greeting him with a heavy clap on the the shoulder. "Come on then, mate, get out and dance, eh? Look at all the girls out there...Isn't one of them good enough for your royal highness?"

(( here's a little something...))

Erëtindë inhaled deeply, taking in the sweet scent of night blooming flowers and smiled to herself. The maid looked dreamily at the full moon as she rode slowly toward home.
Just after sunset, when she was sure Eradan was asleep, she'd taken a horse and ridden out across the river to Osgiliath. The envoys from Rohan were still there, as she had hoped. After a short visit with the herdsmen and their steeds, she'd taken a leisurely course across the Pelennor back to Minas Tirith. She was now walking her mount up thesilent streets toward the stables.
A sudden, cold breeze whistle down the avenue, making her shiver, but Erëtindë gave little thought to it as the familiar stables came into view. Slipping deftly from the horse's back, she led the animal back to its stall and pulled a light blanket over it before she left. Crossing the small room she and Eradan called home, she smiled to see the lad sleeping soundly. Her friend was such a innocent soul, with such a hard life.
Growing restless for reason she could not quite point out,
Erëtindë left her tiny dwelling and continued up the street, pulling a fine blue cloak around her shoulders. The cloak, with its silver clasp wrought like a swan, was a relic from a homeland she had never known. It had come from the city of Dol Amroth, with its glimmering Sea-ward Tower and blue banners, the homeland of her late father and the realm of Prince Imrahil.
This azure garmet, together with the silver moonlight, wrought a marvelous change on the girl. No longer was she the scruffy beggar-maid.
Erëtindë's dark tresses gleamed and her eyes glowed with elvish light, as she began to flit and dance to a faint and far away music.
Soon the night stillness was broken by a clear voice, elven fair, as it was raised in song.
Thus went Erëtindë, daughter of Hirlond, dancing through the streets of stone like the apparition of some long gone elven beauty as the night waxed onward...

((sappy maybe, but perhaps Naurind could chance to see her flitting about the streets down below him, thus seeing another side of her....))

Arnissë, seeing that Mir was finally by herself, went over to her.
"So, how are things with you?" she said hoping that Mir hadn't seen her leave, it would be good conversation for later.
Arnissë couldn't concentrate on hte music, she was trying to think back on all that had happened that night. She then, not hearing Mirendë's awnser excused herself to go get somemore ale....

Ameon saw Melloding walk into the hall he looked distracted. He went up to him and said, "What's the matter, you seem really confuzed. Did something go wrong with one of the girls? By the way have you noticed Naurind he seems to be acting strangely."

((DON'T DIEEEE!!! I'm here....Sort of...Well, at any rate, here's my attempt at getting this off the ground again...))

Naurind shifted uncomfortable at Gellam's questions, so Gellam let it drop. But nevertheless, Gellam hated to see his friends not having a good time. "Come on, let's go for a walk outside then," Gellam suggested. Naurind seemed to like this idea and began to stride for the door. Gellam caught his arm, grinning. "Not so fast, my friend..." at that, Gellam whipped his head around, scanning the crowded hall and quickly placing Arnissë and her friend. In moments, he was bowing deeply to her. "Would you like to join my companion and I for a stroll outside? The air is beginning to get to his head, I think." Arnissë agreed, and Gellam slipped his arm through hers. The next thing he knew, Mirdendë had attached herself to a rather resigned looking Naurind.

Gellam found this stroll to be much more to his liking. He was more of his usual self, happy and jesting. The company had not been walking long, when of a sudden, the laughter ceased for a moment. All of them had heard something. It was faint, but unmistakable: the sound of elven song.

((Ok...That was really badly written, and I had to use some peoples' characters, sorry. But at least we can get on with it now. Hopefully...))

Arnissë quickly accepted Gellam's arm, and strolled off with them, it was a beautiful evening. studdenly Arnissë heard a elven song, it startled her, but she hoped that gellam hadn't noticed.....

Mellodin looked up to see Ameon walking towards him.

"What's the matter, you seem really confused," Ameon asked. "Did something go wrong with one of the girls?"

Mellodin wasn't sure what to say, but he knew he could trust Ameon. He looked around, making sure both girls and Gellam were out of earshot. He then said in a low voice, "I just saw Gellam with Arnisse outside. He was acting weird, almost... well, mushy. It didn't seem like Gellam." Ameon raised an eyebrow, and Mellodin continued while walking backwards towards the dance floor, "Well, I mean, I'm probably overreacting, it's no big deal..."

He continued walking backwards, talking. When he finished speaking, he turned and walked away.

As he turned, Ameon called back, "By the way, have you noticed Naurind? He seems to be acting strangely." Mellodin shrugged and turned again, walking back up to the dance floor.

Ameon felt a little dizzy, he went over to the food, got a drink and sat down. He knew he didn't have much luck with girls, but he wasn't Naurind or Gellam, something was really wrong! 'Gellam is never mushy, I better talk to him,' Ameon thought. he got up, the suddennes making his head spin, and stubled outside. Suddenly he heard something, singing... it could only be the singing of an elf. Ameon tried to clear his head. then walked towards the voice. He saw people ahead of him, they were the girls and Naurind and Gellam. He forgot about talking to them, he was so curious about the voice...

Naurind was not in the right mood that night. He was even more quiet and reserved than usually, although he was supposed to be a gentleman and all... Eh, he didn't care, in fact.

He rubbed his forehead. Something about that day didn't leave him alone. There was something about that girl who had calmed down the stallion. Nothing of that sheepishness the maids of Minas Tirith were usually showing when seeing a man in a uniform...

A voice broke in his musings. He didn't even notice it at first. Naurind lifted his gaze to see people moving in the direction the voice was heard. Naurind fought with a wish to get up and join them. No, he was NOT going to follow the flock! So he remained seated, and watched Ameon heading that way, too. Good, at least one person he would be able to ask about it!
