Bree snorted quietly as he tossed his mane and swished his tail. "Well well, if that isn't odd. Another kitten in the forest? I hope this one isn't wild either." He jested, deciding that he would let the cats get to know each other while he had a snack. But before he walked off into the clearing of lush green grass and leaves he said "Hullo Lossen, my name is Bree."

The 17 hand horse had to bend his neck down to the ground to talk to Lossen, and knew that he now had to be weary of where he walked. Two very small kittens could easily be overlooked. His dapple grey coat shone with radiance. For a now 'wild' horse, he was in very good condition considering that he had not been brushed in a long time.

He looked around, and wondered if there were more animals around that he could possibly meet.

Haeisil got up and brushed himself off. "Gosh I hate falls..." He walked over to were the bunny was standing with the mare. "Well hiya Cos. Some day you're having today ain't it." He giggled, "Didn't realise it was you when I was over in my tree."

Lossen was nearly shaking with embarrassment, nerves, and fear. Luckily, the great grey horse was pretty friendly, so the terrified kitten calmed down a little. Bree left him alone with the she-cat, wandering off for a snack. Suddenly very nervous at the presence of a female kitten, he stayed silent and stared at the ground as the cat carefully groomed herself, occasionally sending a haughty glance in his direction.

Since the conversation so far seemed to be going nowhere, Lossen mustered up enough courage to say sheepishly, " How did such a pretty young kitten like you end up in this forest? We are probably the only young kittens in miles. A true coincidence that we met here, then. I suppose we should get to know each other better then. Would you like to come to the stream and have a drink with me? You look awfully thirsty..."

Lossen stopped, realizing that he had rambled on for too long. He looked down again, ashamed at him self again. Why must he always make things worse for himself????

Cos looked startled for a moment when the mare spoke to him. "Watch-out-better, lucky-time?" he asked in a rush. "What's-means-do-you?" Then his ears flicked and he puffed up indignantly as her mention of 'young fellow' bubbled into his mind. "Is-not-young," he squeaked. "Little-kits-barely-furred-is-young!" Cos turned his back on the mare, hopping resolutely away before almost knocking into Haeisil, the squirrel.

"Day-some-is?" the bunny asked confusedly. Then, he puffed up again and said (rather proudly) "Day-it-is-is-it-not? Yes-day-is-it!" With his fur flattening down again, the rabbit sat up and regarded the squirrel importantly. "Hello-you-squirrley-squirrel, too."

Haeisil smiled and put an arm around the bunny, "So Cos, it seems we have some company." He looks around at all the animals that were starting to come into the clearing.

'I'm sorry.' Did the mare laugh. 'Didn't mean to offend you.' She was a bit dissapointed when he hopped away, after being alone for so long, she could use some company. From a distance she watched the bunny and the squirrel. Then she noticed happily that they weren't alone any more.

Bree noticed that there were more animals in the clearing, and just before he was about to find a nice place to snack he noticed that he was not the only horse in this forest. A squirrel and rabbit had just left the mare by herself, and the now curious Bree wondered what a mare was doing alone in a forest such as this. He then realised, that it was odd for him to also be without a human escort. The grey horse decided to go and speak to her, and find out answers to his questions.

"Hello, fair mare." He said politely, as he walked up to her. "May I have the pleasure of knowing your name?" He swished his long tail and flicked his ears.

Thruggan said "Hello I'm Thruggan and the river's fine. Who are you?" She said gesturing towards Haeisil and Cos.

Lila gave the kitten-ish equivalent of a laugh, more of a throaty purr. She dropped the haughty act, and faced Lossen.

"I've already told you my name, but I kinda like you so I guess I'll answer your other questions too. My mother was a brave and wandering cat who went to the far corners of Middle-earth before she settled down and I intend to follow in her footsteps. As for getting a drink, I've already had one, but I'll let you accompany me back to the stream if you wish," she said, and she set off, glancing back to see that he was following.

Suddenly a huge horse came towards her. He stopped right in front of the mare and spoke friendly. Ninquelë smiled, happy to see one of her kind. 'My name is Ninquelë,' She said. 'I'm so pleased to meet you.' She sighed slightly, hoping that the grey horse wouldn't go away from her as quick as the little rabbit had done. 'And your name is...?' Her eyes glittered and her face lightened up while they spoke.

"Bree" he said heartily, as he arched his neck. "I am- nay, I was a Rohan horse, and I am also very pleased to meet you. May I ask what a fine mare such as yourself is doing in this forest? I am here on passing business," Bree paused, he didn't exactly know where 'here' was. "But decided to stop for a break." He flicked his ears with content. It had been a hard day's gallop, and he was not only glad for the rest but also grateful for the company. He had not seen another of his kind for a long time.

The smile on her face disappeared when Bree asked what she was doing there. 'I used to travel around with an elf maiden.' She said. 'From the time is was just a little foal she had taken care of me. But a month or two ago she,' The mare paused for a second and looked away. 'she was killed.' She sighed slightly but then put herself together. 'So now I'm just wandering around a bit. I was just galloping over the hills when I suddenly saw this forest in front of me. The tall trees offered protection to the warm sun so I decided to take a look. But I've never been to such a forest as this. Do you have any idea where we are?' She asked curiously.

Bree froze. He tried to think about what he had just heard, but it brought up painful memories. "No, I don't know where we are." He replied, trying to hide his discomfort. He shuffled about and scraped his hoof. "I am sorry to hear about your elf maiden, that is a terrible tragedy."

He wondered if he should tell the maiden about his human, who was a man of Rohan before he was shot down by Orcs. Bree had been left alone, and fled from the battle field when all of his fellow horses had been slain. He remembered the pain of loss well, for it was still fresh in his mind.

"Maybe we should ask a local?" He asked as he looked around.

Cos stayed still through the introduction with the otter, then looked at his squirrel friend in a bored way. "Is-now-not-thing-to-do, is-there, squirrelly-squirrel?" he asked.

Cos bounced over to the horse he'd hopped away from, Haeisil close in tow. The little mechanics of his rabbit-brain had forgotten why he'd left the mare standing there, but something told him that she needed protecting from the big-boy-horse who was talking with her.

Being his little impudent self, Cos hopped right between Bree and Ninquelë. The tiny brown rabbit fluffed up, lifting his head to look Bree in the eye and said, in a very self-important voice, "You-is-to-leave-now, big-horsie-boy."

He looked so ridiculous, sitting there, telling a horse to go away that Haeisil fell over laughing.

If Bree had not have stopped himself quickly, then he would have burst into whinnies of laughter. The horse could see that this rabbit thought very highly of himself, and however surprised he was at it's stern words he did not want to offend the creature in anyway. He glanced at the mare before him, and then looked back down at the rabbit.

"Could you tell me exactly why I am to leave?" Bree asked with a light tone, noticing that either he or the rabbit was being laughed at.

Haeisil sobs in fits of laughter. Holding his stomach he slowly lifts himself up, "Gosh Cus, *giggle* I sure hope you know what you're doing." He giggled again.

Ninquelë smiled at Bree, and she was just about to answer him, when the little rabbit jumped between them. The mare tried not to laugh, remembering their short conversation earlier. Amused did she glance at Bree, who seemed to have as much trouble with keeping his laughter as she had.

"I-knows-what-I-is-doing, silly-squirrelly-squirrel," Cos replied haughitly to Haeisil. "Big-horsie-boy-trembles-in-fear-at-sight-of-me!"

The little rabbit returned his attention to Bree. He sat down on his haunches and twitched his nose before speaking to the stallion. "You-is-too-biggy-big-for-little-mare," Cos began and Haeisil lapsed into giggles all over again.

Cos gave the squirrel a highly affronted look. His little paws smoothed down the fuzz on his ears and he returned his attention to Bree, making sure everyone knew he was ignoring Haeisil.

"As-I-is-saying-before-I-was-so-rudely-interrupted, you-is-too-biggy-big-for-little-mare. Little-mare-too-sweety-sweet-to-be-fuzzed-over. Hop-along-now, like-a-good-horsie-boy."

Cos fluffed himself up again, waiting.

OOC: *lol* Sorry I haven't been here in a while.

Tokala stood entranced for a moment, as she gazed upon the little critters chatting near her side. But she soon snapped back to her senses, as she felt the watching eyes of the male fox upon her.

"Oh....ye...yes. I'm sorry sir. I'm Tokala. Just Tokala. I've lived in these words for many a year, but you are welcome to stay at my place should you be in need of supplies. Oh well....there's not much....but I think that the plum tree still bears a little bit of fruit still. It's over by the creek there. And there are elderberries and a few left-over scraps at my place....if you're not too full, that is."

Bree flicked his ears. He had obviously been misunderstood, and this rabbit seemed to want to look out for the mare. The stallion snorted and decided that it would not be a good idea to even giggle. Bree arched his neck, and stood tall making himself seem even larger than he had been before.

"Now now, little rabbit." He said, hoping to start as sternly as he could manage. Instead he just ended up talking in more of a jokey tone. "Just because you think I may upset the lady here, doesn't mean that I will. Be a gentleman and let her make her own choices to who she talks too." He smiled. "If she wants me to leave her alone than I shall. But if not, then I shall stay here... wherever here is." He swished his tail back and forth.

"Go on, ask her if she wants me to leave" he relaxed again, shrinking to a slightly smaller horse. He tossed his mane, encouraging the rabbit to speak, wondering what it would say.

((Sorry it took me so long to post!))

Lossen looked up as Lila began to speak, slightly embarrased because he had already asked her name, but brightened when the kitten said she kind of liked him. When she finished explaining her life history to him, she bounded off towards the stream, Lossen following close behind.

The sound of burbling water grew louder as they neared the stream, the smell of fish reaching Lossen's nose as he ran. He could almost taste the sweet, cold water...

He bounded towards the brook, its sight giving him energy to run on, almost into the water, actually. He stopped at thye very edge and stuck in his head, lapping up water thirstily. He stopped to draw breath, then stuck his head back in again and drank until he was satisfied. He stopped and looked over to see if Lila was still there, asking, "Are you hungry? I can catch fish pretty well, you know." He shook his head wildly like a mad dog, flinging water in all directions.

OCC: If Cos is getting a little too full of himself here, please tell me. I don't want to make any of the animals bigger than him mad. They might decide to take a chunk out of him...

Cos merely ignored Bree and turned to Ninquelë. "Big-horsie-boy-won't-go," he informed her in a not-meant-to-be-overheard voice. "So," he continued brightly, "we-is-going-to-be-going-away."

The little rabbit pushed at Ninquelë's foreleg, trying to move it. "Come-on, horsie-lady," he squeaked out. "We's-is-needing-to-be-moving-on-to-greener-grasses."

"Fish would be wonderful," Lila said, giving a slight purr as she thought of the delicious snack. She decided that it would be worthwhile to have Lossen as a friend, and dropped the haughty act she had put on.

"Have you been around here long?" she asked. "Most kittens I know wouldn't dream of catching their own fish. They let their owners do it for them."

Bree frowned. At first the rabbit had been amusing, but it's genuine arrogance was beginning to get on Bree's nerves. He lowered his ears and shuffled his feet. If he moved, then it would mean that the rabbit would win and he would loose. But if he was to stay, then the rabbit would leave dragging the mare with him.

Bree snorted as he looked down at the animal pushing Ninquelë's foot, and wondered if it even knew it was not being very polite. He had half a mind to pick the rabbit up by it's neck, and put it on a high up branch somewhere so it could not get down.

When he came out of his thoughts he found that the rabbit was still trying to push the mare away. It's efforts were amusing, and Bree decided that no real harm was being done. It's attitude to him was rather funny, and besides, it's intentions were good even if they were slightly odd.

"Don't waste your energy, little rabbit. If I wanted to I could plonk you in a tree and leave you there all night." He whinnied. "But luckily for you, I'm hungry anyway and was just about to have a snack." He turned his head away from them both, knowing that if he did not leave now his own stubbornness would overtake him. "I think I'll go over there for brunch." Bree stated as he turned away and plodded towards a nice clearing in the trees.

The rabbits attitude made it impossible for her not to laugh. But after awhile she could stop herself and looked down at the bunny, who was still trying to move her feet. 'I thought you didn't like my company.' She said, and she smiled amused. She found the little bunny quiet amusing, but she noticed that Bree didn't agree anymore. The mare glanced at the stallion and back at the rabbit, but then she made her decision. She bent forward and pushed Cos gently away with her head. 'Watch out. I might step on you.' She then turned around and called out to Bree. 'Wait!' She whinnied. 'Let me go with you, I could use some food too.' The mare hurried away. To prevent to step on one of the smaller animals she couldn't go as fast as she wanted to, but as soon as she had walked by them, she went faster, afraid that Bree wouldn't wait.

Cos looked after the horses walking away before turning to Haeisil and saiying very solemly, "And-that-is-why-you-never-tries-to-talk-to-animals-with-big-feet."

Rabbits are funny in different ways. Cos was one of those rabbits who forgets things almost as quickly as he said them. The fluffy bunny was hopping in circles now, humming tunelessly.

"Away-outs-here, they's-gots-a-name, for-rain-and-windy-fire! Rains-is-Tess, fire-is-Joe, and-wind-is-called-Mariah!"

Bree turned his head when he heard Ninquelë call after him, as she hurried along as quickly as she could. He paused so that she could catch up with him.

"I was hoping you would join me." He smiled, before he continued to make his way towards the clearing again. The rabbit had seemed to have forgotten their conversation entirely, and golden sun rays were filtering through the trees onto the soft forest floor. Bree found the perfect spot to graze, circled a few times, and looked to Ninquelë triumphantly.

"Well, how does this spot seem to you? The grass and moss smells good here... I could do with a nice fresh snack. He waited for the mare to come to where he was stood, as he would only start after she had the first pick.

-------

((Time to introduce my wolf...))

A large canine figure panted as it trotted through the forest. It was pleased to finally be out of the sun, for although he spent much of his time here during the summer, he often went out onto the plains in search of food and neighbouring wolf packs. Winter left him travelling towards the misty mountains with a thicker coat than the one he wore now.

This canine, was a fairly big wolf who had a silvery grey coat with a white underbelly of fur. The tips of his ears were darker than the rest of his body, and his back was painted with the same colour. It was unusual for a wolf to travel alone, but this one had no pack; and in his eyes he did not need one at all.

He soon found himself coming to the fresh stream that he had grown to love and rely on over the years, and when he approached it's cool shore he waded in curiously. The sent of new and interesting animals came to his nose. His ears darted around as he tried to place the origin of the smell before he lapped up a quick refreshment. His stomach growled with hunger.

Suddenly his deep brown eyes saw a small rabbit dancing around in circles in the middle of an empty clearing. It would make a nice meal, and would be easy to catch if he could surpirse it. The silently wolf crept closer, ignoring any other form of life that may be around.

Suddenly he ran forwards at full speed towards the rabbit with jaws ajar...

Haeisil rolled his eyes and shook his head as Cos began to dance and sing a mixed up tune. When out of the corner of his eye Haeisil saw a very large animal come running in Cos' direction. In a quick movement he had pushed the rabbit out of the way.

When the wolf’s jaws snapped shut he was surprised to find that the only thing he caught in his mouth was air. Unable to stop mid charge, he ran on before he finally managed to stumble to a halt and whirl around to pounce again. The rabbit may have been saved by another creature, but the wolf was not about to give up a meal to a near miss.

He snarled and bearing his teeth rushed forward again towards the terrified and flustered rabbit. But the shock from the near miss before had put the animal on edge, so it darted out of the way before the wolf could get close enough to it. When the grey wolf was about to try again, there was a fluttering in a nearby bush. Instantly the canine was distracted and ran towards where the sound had come from. Minutes later he returned from the brush with a pheasant in his mouth. Its neck had been broken.

The animals that had escaped death were still in the clearing, and as the wolf had his mouth full he no longer had need to chase more prey. He trotted to the edge of the clearing and settled down to tuck into his meal. The other animals watched him carefully.

I flash of brown-tinged mane, a ruffle in the breeze, a change in the air. It was now Tokala's turn to become one with the forces of nature...

It was a few seconds before the wolf realized that a pair of sharp teeth had attached itself to the back of his scruffled neck. The shocked creature dropped his pheasant, and yowled in pain at the top of his lungs. He tried, and failed, to release himself from the attacker, kicking...stomping...and flailing his legs lick a bucking bronco...in an effort to be rid of the intruder.
But Tokala, petite thought she was, would not give in without a fight. She sank her jaws even tighter with each kick of her "prey", not daring to let go lest the wolf take on an return attack. And the fight ensued....for one minute....two minutes....

Five minutes later, Tokala found herself in a heap on the forest floor at the foot of a tree....battered and frayed....but intact from the previous encounter with her predator. It was a miracle to her that she hadn't been knocked out cold from suffering a sharp impact with the sycamore that stood behind her; the wolf had finally managed to fling her off his back and headlong into the tree.
Panting, the little vixen looked up into the wolf's eyes of prevail. One look told her that she had just dared to attack a great warrior.......and a handsome one at that.

Nevertheless, she intended to make her statement clear:
"My lord - I did not intend to harm you, but to merrily halt your actions. But never...in all of my years here in this forest, have I ever seen anyone dare to slay something so fair and beautiful as that pheasant you just killed! I am now friendless by one, as that fowl dinner of yours just happened to be a companion of mine. How dare you!". And at this, she began to utter a small cry of fate. It was as if she knew that there were mere minutes away from darkness......
"But....but alas, sir.....there is no need for me to say much more. If you do know the laws of this land, kill me if you must. But please....I beg of you to spare me for just a couple of minutes."
The wolf's ears and tail twitched at this last statement. Tokala read his sign language though, and pressed on....
"Well....you see, sir.....there are some chocolates and elderberries with my name on it in my den....not ten feet from here! And you must understand that I can not leave this world without a last taste of refreshness. So please.....may I be spared a few more rays of sunlight?"

Tokala's body shook, and her tail twitched....

The wolf glared down at the trembling vixen. He was angry about the attack, and found it difficult to forgive her so quickly. His deep brown eyes did soften however at her pleads. But this wolf was strong, and never troubled himself with the emotions of others.

"I have no need for fox blood," he growled. "You needn't fear death. For I shall not deliver it to you." The wolf backed down and left the scared Vixen to live another day. The pheasant was nothing more than food to him, and he resented being interrupted. Though he did have to admit, she did have some courage.

"You should know better than to attack a wolf." He added as he shook his fur, and then turned away to finish his meal. He sensed that the vixen had followed him, and so stopped as he turned to face her.

"Must I let you friend go to waste?" He asked sternly.

((The wolf may seem a bit cold, but put up with him and he may be nicer in time. ))

Ninquelë smiled, and trotted happily next to Bree. The stallion stopped and the mare followed his example. 'It looks just perfect.' She snorted. She bent her head to take a good bite of grass. 'Come', she added, when she noticed that Bree hadn't tasted it yet. 'It is delicious.'

When she had had enough, she lifted her head and looked at the horse. 'Where are you heading?' She asked.

Bree ate some of the lovely grass, and when the mare had finished he stopped also. "Where am I heading?" he repeated, realising that he didn't actually know. "My lady, I go wherever the wind takes me." He then added, as if it was the usual answer that he would give. He tried to make it not too obvious that he was trying to impress her.

"How about you? Where will your travels take you?" Bree asked. Suddenly he tensed, for he sensed a predator was close by. He looked around wondering if Ninquelë could feel it too.
