I had ordered The Silmarillion from ebay a few months ago. 3 days later I got a call from my mum( I was at my grandpa's) saying it had arrived. Her exact words:'The Silly-million's come dear. You owe me 380 bucks.'

I think we need a word for people who say they're LOTR fans but aren't, got any ideas?

The Most Annoying People On Earth?... no, too long
Idiots?... fitting, but kinda rude
Orcs?

I've not been asked any stupid questions lately, but school starts next week, so I might have some soon.

Yeah that goes for me too. These "stupid questions askers..." You'll never know what they'll come up with next.
Like this reminds me that one time when I was on CoE and my friend was with me. I was browsinf the main page and I was using the Rohan theme. Well believe it or not, she asked if the horse was "an Elrond"! :banghead:

Wow, some people are just so...blonde.

Ha! Funny you should say that, MerryandPip, as I'm actually the one that's blonde...my acquaintance had dark hair!

My sister: So when's the fourth movie coming out?

Me: There is no fourth movie.

My sister: But it ends in the fourth one, right?

Me: No...

My sister: So the fifth one then? When's that one out? :banghead:

Guy (loudly from the back of the bus): "Yeah, I could never figure out that name SORE-ON, he always reminds me of my friend Sorin. And that other guy, SORE- uman, is exactly the same."

After hearing that, I needed to set his pronunciation straight pretty quick!

*lol* You should hear my my relatives (luckily my parents and brother all love LotR). When I watched FotR with my friend for the first time (she hadn't read the book, but I had) I had to explain just about everything, including who were the bad guys:rolleyes:

Some other stupid questions:

Uncle (during some part of FotR): So this Aragorn person, is that him? *points at Legolas*

Grandmother (during Bilbo's party): Did they have fireworks back then?

Teacher (seeing me write in Tengwar all over my schoolbooks): Ooooh! Can you write in Arabic? I didn't know that!

And of course, the classic "Why is this ring so important?"

LOL! My heart almost stopped!

There was a kid on my bus who thought LotR was a bad movie/book because it has magic and demons in it  So while I was giving him his well- deserved lecture, he says:
"Well orcs are really Elves gone evil!"
Me: "They were captured by the evil guy and tortured and corrupted!" (I have to be very simple with him)
Another kid: "Really? I thought the wizard guy made them in that big oven!"

Another stupid question I've been asked -

We were watching The Curse of Frankenstein, and Christopher Lee was in the credits. Someone goes - that's the guy who plays Sauron in LotR! I say - "Saruman!" and they're all like "Who?"

This summer my grandparents saw the trilogy for the first time, they hadn't read the books either, so they have an excuse. But it took them a long time to get stuff.
After Gandalf died gramps was like "What about the old man, what just happened to him, is he dead?"

And when he came back, they said"What's up with the old man, i thought he died, wasn't his name Gandalf?"

One of my sister's best friends came round last night, and somehow the topic got onto Lord of the Rings. She said,

"I don't get why Sam says 'preciousssss' so much, I mean he doesn't even want the Ring!"

No idea where she got that from, but I straightened her out pretty quick!

Wow, all of these questions are just awesome... ...well, and a bit sad at the same time.

What I encounter most often are the astonished looks that I get when I take out my copy of the LOTR (especially if I have my 3-in-1 version with me, which IS really thick - but female bags are magical as we all know )
They probably think it's a dictionary or something..
When I tell them what it is, the conversation usually doesn't last long...
so keep up the good work CoE!

It's sad how un-Tolkien-educated some people are...and funny lol.
This isn't that funny but it made me mad...I was looking for stuff for my Halloween costume today so I asked the store cleck person if they had any cloaks. I told her it was like a LotR costume and she goes, "Oh, so you want it brown then?"
Ok, it's not funny. But it really irritated me.

Me: Ya, Eowyn rocks in the third movie.
Friend: Um...Yeah I guess. But I don't like those weird dresses she wears.
Me: *thinking this is kind of weird*
Friend: But I guess being an elf is cool. She doesn't really do much though...
Me: That's Arwen.
Friend: Who's that???

These things drive me crazy...

Okay, when I first watched the movie, I thought Arwen was bad and was decieving the Hobbits and Aragorn with her beauty. So I screamed, "FRODO! DON't GO TOWARD THE LIGHT!!!" So I have done it every time ever since, no matter who's there.

When FotR first came out, my dad and my older brother got confused as to why Galadriel went nuts over the Ring...

My little brother routinely mixes up Saruman and Sauron, Theoden and Eomer and Denethor

My mom leaves the room when I put the movies on

Okay, yesterday I watched all of the LotR movies with a handful of my friends, and I went expecting some stupid things. I wasn't disappointed...

"So who's Sore-on again?"
"I wish I was Arawen..." aka Arwen
"So does Eruwine love Merry?" I think she meant Eowyn, though it's hard to be sure

A friend: Where are they (Frodo and Sam) going?

That question wouldn't have been bad if had asked earlier. We had just finished the extended FotR and TTT and we were in the middle of RotK.

Same friend mentioned above: Wait. Isn't the blonde one in love with smelly?
Me: She was
friend: Then why is the brunnette with smelly now?
me: He's not smelly anymore! He's king! She loves Faramir now.
friend: Oh... (pause) she doesn't like him because he's not smelly?
Me: No! I meant that she doesn't love smelly anymore because she loves Faramir now.
(pause)
friend: Aren't they brother and sister?
Me: :dizzy:

I don't even know why I bother showing these movies to people anymore.

friend (After FotR, TTT and RotK): Those were good movies! When's the fourth one coming out?
Me: :twitch:

A friend of mine saw the pics of LotR in my phone, and asked me if I was a LotR-fan.
Me:"yes, I am" (why else would I have such pics in my phone...?? :dizzy: )
Friend: "oh, that's really cool, I'm a big LotR-fan myself!"
Me: *surprised* "Really?"
Friend: " oh sure! I've seen both movies, and I loved them!"
Me: ...

A friend of mine made a stupid LotR comment the other day. We were walking in the corridor where some paintings done in art class are exposed. We see a picture of Gollum:
Me: Hey, it's Gollum
Her: Yeah I know...
Me: You do??!!
Her: Yeah! He's from Star Treck right?

Oh and this was one from my friend who doesn't like LOTR as much as me but she has seen it.
Friend: You know when that guy falls off the cliff in Two Towers?
Me: Ummm what?
Friend: That guy...who is dragged along by that hyena...
Me: oooh you mean Aragorn and the Warg.
Friend: ummm yeah sure...well why is he alive in this film?
Me: Cos he survived the fall...
Friend: but then why didn't he wake up properly until that woman came?
Me: Arwen? well she wasn't really there, he was kinda just imagining it.
Friend: oh right....
Me: k
Friend: hey Emma?
Me: yeah?
Friend: who is Arwen again?

My dad asked if they had shampoo back then(referring to Aragorns greesy hottness) and he's always wondering why they didn't fly to Mount Doom on the Eagles, "Why did they walk?!!?". He also wanted to know if that "Lassie" boy(Legolas) was gay...LOL.... no one in my family apreciates my love of Middle Earth.*sigh*

LOL! Did they freak out about Return of the King then?
"The King beneath the mountains, The King of carven stone, The lord of silver fountains Shall come into his own! His crown shall be upholden, His harp shall be restrung, His halls shall echo golden To songs of yore re-sung. The woods shall wave on mountains And grass beneath the sun; His wealth shall flow in fountains And the rivers golden run. The streams shall run in gladness, The lakes shall shine and burn, All sorrow fail and sadness At the Mountain-king's return!"
