Eruvilui could barely make out the lowered voices of Dira and Hadrian as they attempted to reason with the terrified girl. It sounded as though the conversation was going as well as to be expected under the circumstances, but the She-Elf was not sold on the outcome and watched tentatively as Dira re-entered the room. Just as Eruvilui was about to speak, Legolas moved in an attempt to sit. His words were a welcome sound, and Eruvilui returned quickly to his side, "Legolas...take peace. There is no need to worry...Gwen is correct," she spoke encouragingly, "We are safe for the time-being...and you will regain your strength soon enough," she smiled and reached for the elf's brow, feeling a slight coolness returning beneath her touch.

"I'm worried Eruvilui," Dira confided with her friend, "the tax collector and the one they call the Protector. They may have eyes on us this very moment."

Her heart went out to her friend. So much had the young Dunadain gone through in her lifetime, thus far, and Eruvilui wanted nothing more than to allow the woman reprieve. Hazel pools glistened, "If these men, so-called as they are, truly have eyes on us right now..." she looked to the bedraggled group and then back to her friend, "then one of us should get two eyes upon them," she added seriously, "I can offer that service, my friend," she added seriously, knowing her work as a hitman of sorts could finally pay off.

Dira walked over to the window scanning the area in front of the meager home. It was as she expected. Men lolling in dark corners and shaded areas casually watching the house.
"Let them come to us my friend," she began, "but I need at least one of those ruffians...gone..."

Eruvilui stood slowly and watched her friend carefully, a sudden rush flowing through her body; it was a sensation she'd not felt for a long time. A small smile flickered to the corner of her mouth as she walked up beside Dira, "Yes, my friend," she saw also the men hiding in the shadows in an attempt to stay invisible, "tell me what I can do," she added, resting a hand on the other woman's shoulder.

Tegalad watched Dira and Eruvilui as they conspirated- he could only guess their antics. Watching the two of them, he realized that Dira, however hesitant she was or feinted to be- was capable of being the leader of their company. He had seen her take control of many situations already, or, she had asked his opinion and brushed it off in search of her own paths. If it continued, he would need to speak to her about it, or perhaps, to Eruvilui. The fate of the journey was integral to the escort, and if she misstepped, they would all plummet.

"Let him see your ears," Dira said, "Then gut him. Let his friends see."
She turned and sighed when she saw Tegalad shift his gaze suddenly from them. She knew what he was thinking. She was gradually taking over leadership not minding that he was appointed leader. It was hard to revert from leading all the time, from going on dangerous missions making life and death decisions, to being a follower.
"Go ask Tegalad first," she told Eruvilui, "The Elves made him leader. He should decide."

Her blood boiled with anticipation in spite of herself, and Eruvilui had to suppress the rush of adrenaline flowing suddenly through her body. It had been a time forgotten since she had so willingly ended another being's life. She watched Dira's expression shift to that of Tegalad, and she knew the other woman's word to be correct. As admittedly disappointed as she felt, Eruvilui knew them to be truth. It had not been since the cavern that Tegalad had spoken. Her hazel depths rolled to the other elf and nodded, "You are right, my friend. I shall inquire what he might suggest we do in this instance," she stood and turned, heading to where the elf in question sat in silence.

"Tegalad," she spoke quietly, "it would seem we may have a situation on our hands that I am more than willing to take care of for the sake of our company," she knelt before the other, "unless you believe we might have another option? I will do whatever it is you might ask," she added solemnly.

Tegalad looked up. Eyes gleamed at him from the darkness. In answer to Eruvilui, he handed her his knife.

Dira nodded as Tegalad gave Eruvilui his knife. She turned to Hadrian.
"We need to hide our sick friend," she said, "You know the place."

Tegalad's response was the one Eruvilui had ashamedly been looking forward to getting. Something in the back of her mind had awoken, and the She-Elf's aura had suddenly shifted. Her hazel pools had darkened and become like stone as she willingly took the offered weapon, bowing her head slightly as she did so, "Look after Legolas for me?" she queried, looking directly into Tegalad's eyes and then to Dira, "I know you will," she concluded as she sheathed the knife in a hidden pocket-scabbard.

She turned to walk out of the room but stopped just short of exiting and placed a hand on her friend's shoulder, "We will figure out whose eye it is we have upon us, my friend," she whispered, "of that I can promise you," she concluded and stepped out of the room.

Eruvilui moved as a cat on hot coals, lithe and graceful. Her motions went unnoticed, for her head was covered by her cowl. By all accounts and to the naked eye, the She-Elf appeared to be of the masculine variety. Her hidden ears picked up even the most slight of sounds as she continued meandering down the main road in the town but split to the left as though she knew which direction she was heading. Non-chalantly, the woman stepped closer to the buildings adorning the left side of the alley she'd chosen. Without warning, her left hand shot out and long fingers gripped clothing as she pulled the hidden man from the shadows.

"Think you are so smart as to fool one such as myself, do you?" she questioned as she skillfully dropped the man to the ground by using the pressure point at the back of his right knee, "You make a sound, and I will slit your throat, worm," she hissed as she lowered herself upon him, making sure to incapacitate his right arm in a lock with her own, "Tell me who it is that is following the company I am with and I may choose to let you live," she added mercilessly.

So caught off his guard was the man that he opened his mouth to speak but nothing fell from his lips aside from hot air, "Y-You don't frighten me, woman..." he finally garbled, "If you kill me, then my friends will-"

"They will do nothing of the sort, and you know it. Do not bother me with your pitiful excuses and threats. Tell me what it is I wish to know. Now."

Tegalad turned round as Eruvilui went of, in search of Legolas. He found the prince feverish and silent, but breathing. What fell things had come to Middle Earth; that an Elf would become sick?

"Tegalad Hadrian here will hide Legolas. If I'm right we may have trouble. There is a secret passageway that leads out of this town. We can keep him in the hidden room until time to leave."

Eruvilui wished more than anything that she could capture the look smeared across the man's withered face; it was fear, pure and simple. He shifted beneath her, and the She-Elf instinctively tightened her grip around his arm, "Are you going to tell me what I want to know, or are you not? The choice is yours, insect," she growled the words to him, "make the right one."

"Alright, alright," he squirmed in discomfort underneath the woman's body, "the one they call the Protector is responsible and hired the gang I work for, if that means anything to you, woman," he sneered, "even I do not know his true name, but I wouldn't give it to you even if I did," with that spoken, the man spit into Eruvilui's face.

The motion only proved to fuel the She-Elf's ire as she used her free hand to wipe the phlegm from her cheek, "Very well...I will send you with my regards and the regards of the rest of my company," she smiled malevolently. In one, swift movement, Eruvilui had removed the hidden knife from its sheath and driven the blade through the man's jacket and deep into his side. Her target had been just below his ribcage and upward as she covered his mouth with her hand, "Scream, and you will suffer more than this," her hazel eyes flared dangerously, "You will act as a living message...for now...we shall see if your Protector lives up to his name for your sake, fool," she added as she stood.

The man's pained expression was the only thing Eruvilui received as a response. She wasted no time in making it back to their hiding place, knowing her victim would be incapacitated until help arrived, if help arrived. His wound was, in fact, treatable if cared for properly right away. The She-Elf had gotten all she had wanted from him.

"My friend!" her voice was urgent as she re-entered the room where Dira was, "I have news that you might be able to decipher. You were right in the fact that is the man known as The Protector that has sent men against us," she spoke and looked to both Dira and Tegalad who looked as though they were attempting to move Legolas, "What more do you know or need to know of him?" she addressed both Dira and Tegalad once again with her eyes, "I will do all I can."

Dira looked up as Eruvilui reentered the room.
"What more do you know or need to know of him?" she addressed both Dira and Tegalad once again with her eyes, "I will do all I can."
Dira shut her mouth waiting to see what the Elf would say. She had to learn sometime and now was as good as any.

Legolas' eyes fluttered opened, scared, "W-where I am? Why am I here?" he asked in a frantic voice, it was weak but still frantic, he kept looking around, trying to find familiar surroundings.

"We need to know where this "Protecter" is, in flesh," Tegalad said, noting Dira's reluctance to speak quickly. "I have a feeling he may be the one that we have been sent here to kill."

"If I remember right," Dira said, "He is no man you would want to fight. I mean he isn't a menace but rather a mouse of a man. Small and white is what I would describe him as. But he has an evil heart. Plus I don't know how many slaves he has. Not many I presume to control this town."

Eruvilui listened to Tegalad's words intently and nodded, "I am certain that I could find a way to arrange a meeting with this fiend," she spoke bluntly, ire building in her tones, "regardless of him being the one we were sent here to kill or not," she added, looking to Dira with a serious glance. "If he is truly as you describe, then he must face the consequences of his chosen path," she added without mercy.

There was a sudden motion in the back of the room where Hadrian and Dira had taken Legolas. It appeared as though the prince was awake and somewhat in the realm of lucidity. Eruvilui turned and moved easily past Tegalad and Dira in order to get to where the elf was laying. She knelt next to him and smiled, "You have been injured, Legolas, and you have been febrile," she spoke calmly, "We are safe for the time-being. How do you fare?" she asked worriedly, brow furrowed in concern.

"If I am right he will send all of his henchmen here first to burn us out like foxes in a hole. He will not make an appearance. If his plan does not succeed he is likely to raise a hue and cry after Elves. It's a poor town and money would be gladly accepted."
Dira watched her friend care for the prince.

Eruvilui remained kneeling next to Legolas but looked to Dira, "Then he truly is a worm, my friend," her voice was laced with venom, "having others do his dirty work and never having to get his own muddied," she shook her head and looked back to Legolas with immediately softened eyes.

"If only we could change the world...restore what peace we knew in the time of the Kings..." she whispered softly.

Dira looked softly at her friend. She had never known peace, not even when she was a child. Although Mirkwood was not troubled by the Witch King it had been tense and bad news always streamed in.
"You lived in the time of the renewal of the Kings of Gondor my friend did you not?"

Eruvilui's face reflected her memories as she looked to Legolas and raised a hand to his brow, which felt normal to her. Dira's voice suddenly pulled her from her thoughts, and the She-Elf turned and slowly stood. A solemn smile was on her lips as she nodded in response to the question, "Indeed, my friend, I did..." she spoke methodically, "There was peace in the days of Aragorn and Arwen Undomiel...their children..." she smiled sadly, "Oh, how I would live to see days like that renewed upon the lands of this world..."

Eruvilui gratefully accepted the cloth being handed to her and dipped it into the bowl of water that was sitting on the table next to Legolas' cot. The She-Elf gently dabbed the dampened rag across the elf's brow, removing the dirt that had gathered on his forehead from sweating. It seemed as though the warrior was beginning to mend which pleased the woman to no end.

Tegalad's words caused a crease to form across her forehead, "Now that is a bold statement, my friend," she spoke and turned to look to him with saddened eyes, "that one such as yourself has been resolved to believing something like that. In the age that we knew...there was always room for hope, Tegalad," she added, looking to Dira, "Part of me has to believe there is still that chance."

"Chances are few these days and good even less," Dira replied, "If we conquer the Witch King the world will never be the same."
She looked up abruptly as a loud pounding on the door broke the silence.
"Open up in the name of the Protector!"

I agree with Dira," Tegalad said, in a sentiment that surprised he more than anyone. "But, my Lady Eruvilui, you may harbor hope as long as these ages themselves."

The door shook with impoact as a rapping sounded at the door. "Open up, in the name of the Protector!"

Tegalad reached over to grab his bow. He fit three arrows to the string and stood near the door. "Eruvilui," He said to the maiden sharply. "Stand my the Prince. Be prepared to move him quickly in case of danger."

Legolas looked up in alarm at the banging coming from the door.

"Open up, in the name of the Protector!" an angry voice came through, Legolas looked up at Eruvilui with a fear in his eyes.

"W-what is going on?" he asked quietly.

Eruvilui looked to both Dira and Tegalad with an expression reflecting her saddened thoughts, though her spirit would not be defeated. The She-Elf had been through much toil in her immortal lifetime and had suffered more than her fair share of setbacks and hardships, but her fierce soul had kept her going. Hazel pools widened at the sudden impact on the door leading to their hideout, and her senses went into overdrive as she took her single, long knife from its place on her back.

Tegalad's words echoed in her ears, and she nodded sub-consciously. Her position near to Legolas did not move, but the woman readied herself in battle stance in case necessary.

She set a hand on Legolas' shoulder when the elf's words reached her, "There is much to explain, Legolas, but for now...just take to heart that you are protected. Both Tegalad and Dira," the woman used her companion's other alias, "are here, and I will not allow harm to befall you as long as I draw breath," she added sternly, "Do you think you are able to move?" she asked gently.

"I believe I can, I may need help..." Legolas said attempting to sit up, he reached his arms put so that Eruvilui could help him up. Once he was up, he stood behind everyone, for he was to weak to fight off whoever or whatever was to come through the door.

Eruvilui smiled bleakly as Legolas moved to stand even though the attempt appeared somewhat forced on the prince's part. Her arm instinctively was out-reached to support and stabilize his effort as she, Dira, and Tegalad prepared themselves for whatever or whomever stood behind the door. The She-Elf positioned herself in such a way that she was literally standing in front of Legolas in order to block him from the potential onslaught.

"We will not open the door to whomever serves a coward such as your Protector," her words were venom dripping from her lips, "We will not bow before a man who hides himself in the shadows and sends worms to do his dirty work!" she added defiantly.

Dira drew her double swords, they gave a sharp screech as they slid out of their scabbards but they also gave away her identity.
"We know you're in there Cwen. A smuggler can't hide forever. Besides 10,000 pieces of gold will improve the town."
Dira sighed and moved over to the door. She caught her friend's raised eyebrow. Evidently she had forgotten to say how much she was wanted dead.
"Well your worth twice that," she hissed quietly.
Dira was at the door. In a moment the door was unlatched and her sword snaked it's way out and into the speaker's chest. Immediately the door was closed, relatched, and supported.

"Oh me," she replid sacastically," He thinks I owe him a couple of bags of coins he stole. I've also sneaked some things past him. He'll want you also. A good sized Elf like you is worth 25,000 gold coins at least.

"What about me, would he be interested in me?" Legolas asked quietly, trying to hide his emotions, he was still hiding behind Eruvilui, he knew he could not fight off anybody who came through, not with his weakened body.
