Que Yu looked for a sign to tell her where she was. She cursed. hmm... too far away from the block to do much good there. maybe i should go to the hangers... Que yu turned and headed down a hallway, headed for the hangers. she didnt run into many stormtroopers... wonder why... does Lord Vadar want them to escape?? her mind whirled. could this be another test of her abilities? she faded back into the shadows. maybe i'll just wait her. she caught her breath. someone was coming.

Bruce shot out one of the speakers, but the sirens continued on.
"Hello to you too, Esara. Mark, I sure hope your little scrap pile is still in one piece, cause we're gonna need it."

"It'll still be in one piece. Not even the empire would throw away scrap that expensive."

"Well then," he said turning to the turbolift, "Down we go."

(OOC If you don'tmind, I'm gonna try and get my brother back to play Robert again.)

Esara and company piled on to the turbolift. The ride down provided a breif pause and moment to think. Esara slumped against the wall of the elevator car, taking slow, deliberate breaths in an effort to assuage her aching ribs, but her heart raced on. She looked up at the man who stood across from her and smiled weakly. He was dressed in loose, desert colored clothing and wore a gunbelt around his waist. Pointing a finger at Rhys, she adressed the smuggler, "Did he get you into this?"
The man from Tantooine shook his head, "No actually, I'm here for my ship. Who are you anyway?"
Bruce spoke up. "She's a rebel, like me." Shifting his attention to Esara he continued, "How'd ya' get yourself in here anyhow? I thought you were dead."
Esara raised an eyebrow at her fellow rebel, "Likewise. I'd of gotten out fine if Wrench hadn't freaked out blown the hanger to pieces, but..." Esara's voice trailed off as the turbolift ground to a halt. "Guess this is our floor." said Rhys, speaking for the first time. The men readied their blasters, taking nothing for granted. Esara looked around hopefully to realize her lightsaber was all she had. Well, I guess I can just freak them out if push comes to shove...it's not like they've ever seen a lightsaber before....
The door opened on to an empty hallway. A chorus of sighs told that they were half relieved, half disappointed. The men filed out, fanning their weapons across the corridor in case of threat. Esara stepped out last, just behind Rhys. When the coast was clear, the group turned to each other for guidance.
Doubt gnawed at the back of Esara's mind as she listened to the others. The lack of resistance was disturbing, but she hated questioning what seemed like good fortune.
Bruce looked her way. "Any suggestions? Or are you just gonna stand there like a statue?"
Esara rolled her eyes and turned to Mark. Her searching glance prompted him to introduce himself. "Mark Nevri" he said and the girl nodded. "This ship of yours, what is it?"
"It's a Corellian freighter. Small, swift, highly illegal. The Rapid Dragon."
"Then I suppose it has a hyperdrive?" she asked.
"Well, yeah." said Mark incredulously, as if it was a dumb question.
"Uh-huh..." Esara calculated, glancing at Bruce and Rhys. Turning back to Mark she smiled broadly. "Congratulations, Mr. Nevri. You've got yourself an escort."
"What are you thinking?" asked Rhys, folding his arms across his chest.
"We find the hanger and take as many of the X-wings as we can and destroy the rest. Two X-wings escort the Dragon through the blocade and then make a break for open space. Once the whole team's off planet, we re-group at a safe haven I know, and everybody goes home happy. Sound good?"

(( anybody you can bring to the thread would be great Morion ))

OOC: Ok, I haven't been here for a while. Lets see. we'll FF heree. Robert wasn't taken in the raid on the bar he crawled out of the door and made his way to the hangar which by now was just rubble and he is now in the process of reparing it hoping to get in touch with Bruce

"****!"

Robert had been working tirelessly on his x-wing fighter for the past couple of hours. He had reapaired the engines and the hyperdrive and was now in the process of trying to get the comm system to work. He had only to get a few more wires into place. After a few more minutes of work he had them all in place and was rewarded by the satisfying crakle of comm traffic. He got up into the cockpit and swtched to a regional channel. He keyed to transmit button.

"Bruce, Beth, you there? Anybody?"

***********************************************
OOC: I rekon I'll try and take care of Beth too.

Beth was suddenly awakened from her sleep by a loud beeping. She jerked up when she realized that it was her comm. She grabbed it up and switched it on.

"Bruce, Beth, You there? Anybody?"

"Robert!"

"Beth, that you?"

"Robert, Robert, Help me!"

"Where are you?"

"I don't know."

"Hold on. I'll find ya. Bruce, Bruce, You there man? Come on. I need you."

OOC: Thnx bro. I now need to follow up. And please I want some input from some of you other guys on what happens to Beth.

"Bruce, Bruce..."

Bruce jerked out his com unit.

"...I need ya."

"Robert? That you?"

"Yeah its me. Where are you?"

"In one of the Imperial hangars."

"Listen man. Can you get a track on Beth? I can't find her."

"Well, I'm in a bit of a tough spot here, but I'll see what I can do. But unitl then cut the chatter. You're on regional channel the imps can track us."

**************************************************
(not too far away)

A loud rapid beeping jerked a young cadet back to reality. He stared down at his computer console. He read over the readings then turned to address his supervisor who was checking some technical readouts.

"Sir,"

"Yes?"

"We have a lock on the rebel com transmission. Hangar 3, lvl 45."

"Very good."

"Would you like me to alert security, sir?"

"No. Have them on standby and wait for my command."

"Yes, sir."
**************************************************
Robert turned back to his fighter console.
"Come on Bruce. Come on."

Esara was dumfounded as she listened to Bruce's conversation. That he would have the nerve to use it now left her in disbelief, but as she listened she became aware of her own potentially fatal mistake...
"Listen man. Can you get a track on Beth? I can't find her." said the voice through the comm-link.
Beth?.....who's...Beth! Her eyes grew wide as she began to realize the unthinkable: she'd left Beth in the detention block. She'd left with no intention or thought of returning and forgotten about Beth. Esara was flummoxed and enraged at her own stupidity. The conversation wrapped up and Bruce deactivated the comm. Esara hardly waited for him to put it away before demanding a weapon. Both Mark and Rhys just stared at her like she was crazy so she said it again.
"Give me a gun!" Rhys reached for his gun and surrendered one of the pair slowly, a look of sheer confusion etched on his face. Esara snatched it from him and turned to leave. Rhys struggled to grasp what was going on. "Esara what...where are you going?"
Bruce ceased to be pre-occupied and looked up a second later, his expression begging the same question.
Esara turned on her heels growling under her breath. "I know where Beth is and I'm going to get her." "And what about us?" said Rhys. "Go on ahead and find our ships. I'll catch up with you."
However vexed he might have been, Bruce nodded in agreement. Mark said nothing, not knowing what he could say to this crazed young woman and Rhys stood with his jaw slack in disbelief. Esara turned away from them again and broke into a jog. The three men looked at each other, all hesitating over whether or not one of them should go with her.

OOC: Thnx Vanimacar. Seeing as out of the 3 of them Beth would mean more to Bruce than the others we'll be going coming along...

Bruce turned Mark aside, "You take Rhys and go find your ship. You'll need him to get past the impeial security anyway. He'd be the only one with the codes."

Bruce checked his blaster rifle then turned to Rhys,
"You need go with him," he said, jerking his head toward Mark who was already making his way toward the far end of the room.

"But I --"

"GO!. He'll need you to get him into the higher lvl security floors. Now git!"

Rhys looked towards Mark then took a hesitating glance to Esara then looked back to Bruce. Bruce ignored him and slung the rifle over his shoulder and slowly followed Esara. He knew how stubborn she could be and didn't want to make her mad... yet.

((Ooc: You guys really left me behing here!))

Rhys stared after Bruce as he ran down the hallway after Esara. He had come to rescue her, and now he was left behind. Mark roused Rhys from his thoughts with a curt, “Lets go.” and the two men began walking cautiously back toward the hanger. Whatever Rhys thought, Mark was glad to be left behind. Whoever this Beth was, she didn’t sound like someone worth risking his life over. The corridors were, as usual , completely deserted. But Mark and Rhys still moved slowly, taking no chances until they got a set of blast doors that blocked their way. There were a set of controls right beside the doors, however. Mark was reaching for them when Rhys stopped him.

“Don’t just go pushing buttons now.” he said, “If there’s a security code then hitting the wrong thing will set off an alarm.”

“Alright then.” Mark replied, a bit sarcastically, “Let’s see if you can do any better.” Rhys paused for a moment, remembering the standard hanger bay code. Of course, there was no guarantee that these doors would be programmed to the standard, but there was really no choice but to try. He punched the buttons, and the blast doors began to slide open. Both men instantly jumped to the side, and waited until the doors had finished opening before carefully moving in. The hanger was cluttered with randomly parked fighters, but a small, grey coloured freighter stood above the rest. Rhys pointed to it,

“That’s your ship?” he asked.

“Yeah.” Mark replied, uneasily. He had the strange feeling that he was being watched. “Get down!” he whispered suddenly, and ducked behind a TIE fighter.

“What’s up?” Rhys asked softly.

“I’m… I’m not sure.” Mark replied after a moment, “But we’re not alone in here. I’ve been in places like this enough that I just know.” He didn’t actually know, but he had a strong feeling that something was not right in the hanger. He was certain that someone had seen them.

((Ooc: That’s for you, Sayen Elf. Remember, Que Yu’s hiding at the hanger.))

**************************************************

“Lord, what about that woman we captured?” Garn asked Darth Vader, “The one who sent the comlink transmissions.”

“The rebels are trying to free her.” The Sith lord replied, “You will let them succeed.”

Let them succeed? Garn was surprised. It had been obvious by the intercepted comlink transmission that this Beth had some information about the rebels. There were two in particular that she had mentioned, Garn remembered, Bruce and Robert. Just first names were given, nothing more; but Garn was certain that with the right interrogation the prisoner would crack and tell everything that she knew. And now Lord Vader was basically telling him to let the rebels release Beth. Garn would not dare to argue, but he wondered he could know Vader’s reasons. “Release her, Lord Vader?” he questioned.

“She will join the rebels that you are tracking.” Darth Vader replied. “At the moment the rebels are suspicious of their easy escape, but letting her go will cause them to think that we are only careless. I have foreseen it.” Vader added curtly, “Now you will proceed to your command, you know what to do.”

“Yes my Lord.” Garn Mardred said, and left the room quickly. Reaching a detention block command centre he gave orders that only two guards be left in the detention block where prisoner 21618 was held. It was condemning those troopers to death, but that did not trouble Garn. Those men would die for the Empire. After finishing this, he went to a landing platform and boarded a shuttle. As the spacecraft began its flight he thought over his preparations. The presence of guards, but only a few, would convince the rebels that their part of the compound as almost deserted; and that was why they hadn’t been discovered.

(( yeah, very sorry about that Telemnar, you went from waiting on us to be left behind, I'll try not to do that))

Bruce and Esara made short work of the guards Madred left behind and after looking over the controls for a moment, they managed to open Beth's cell with little more than the push of a button. Bruce leaned his head out of the control room and yelled down the hall "Beth! Beth come on!" For a moment there was no responce from cell five, then out stumbled a very frazzled looking young woman who looked at Bruce wide-eyed.
"That Beth?" asked Esara without looking up from the computer. Without waiting for an answer she got up and walked out to where the dead guards lay, leaving Bruce to tend to Beth. Kneeling down she collected the dead trooper's ammo and a couple of explosive charges from his belt, as well as his blaster rifle. When she looked up Bruce and Beth had turned the corner together and stood looking at her. She nodded curtly, almost to herself and said simply, "Let's go."

((hope nobody has a problem w/ me skipping some details here, but eager to get them out of the compound))

The trio made their way to the indicated hanger, but when the door opened, it was only half-lit and seemingly empty. Rhys and Mark were nowhere to be seen. I knew it was too good to be true...I knew it!
Esara's hand slipped absently to the medallion around her neck, her fingers lightly tracing the surface of the good luck charm. Here goes nothing...

Bruce reached over and grabbed Esara's shoulder.
"Wait."
He looked around the dimly lit hangar. There was absolute silence. He cautiously stepped out into the open and agin looked around. Still nothing. Nothing but the sound of his breatheing and that of his companions behind him. Then he heard a click.
"****!"

He jumped back into the turbolift. "How's your aim, Esara?"

"Need you ask?"

"Beth? Can you wal... run?"

"Ummmm... No."

"****. What are we gonna do?"

"You could carry her." suggested Esara.

"Here." He threw his rifle at Esara, and leaned down to pick up Beth. "Now I'm following you."

Robert leaned back in his chair preping his engines. he had moved his x-wing into the cargo hold of a small freighter. Very tight fit, but he wasn't about to leave it. He initiated the launch sequence and heard the satisfying hum from the back of the ship as it began to fire up. He keyed the comm hoping not to attract too much attention.

"Bruce. You there?"

Instead of Bruce he heard Beth come on the line.
"What do you want?"

"Where are you? I got our ride out of here."

"The northern complex. ummm... bay 67."

"Crap! That place is loaded down with imps. How ythe heck did yall get there?"

"Long story. Just get us out."

"On my way."

He fired up the engines and manuvered his way out of the small bay and toward the main imperial hangar.

Que Yu's blaster made a small click that echoed around the deathly-silent hanger. wincing, she eased back against a crate that was to be shipped the next day. she had a horrible kink in her knee from being in the cramped postion for so long. she could vaguely make out a couple of figures from around a huge drum of oil that block her from their line of sight. unfortunatly, the oil block them from her as well. i definatly couldve picked a better spot... she rose silently to her feet. her blaster was aimed at the renagade imperial. suddenly, her mind was overwhelmed with an extreme mental pressure, and she fell almost silently to her knees. her hands flew to her head as she watched helplessly as the rebels escaped right from under her nose...

((i kinda let myself get left behind there ... so i think i got my char. caught back up... ))

Esara led the way as they eased out of the turbolift. The hanger seemed empty and for a split second Esara let herself relax. The dreaded click could have been anything she decided. Probably just a ship settling...
Feeling rather confident, but keeping the rifle snug against the crook of her arm, Esara motioned for Bruce to follow. Then it hit her.
The Force washed over her like a wave, brain-numbing, dark and persistent. For a moment, Esara was only aware of the acute pain in her head. She squeezed her eyes shut out of reflex and her free hand flew to her temple. Her lips where trying to form the word w-a-i-t, but no sound came out. That didn't matter, Bruce had stopped anyway and was looking at her with concern. He was saying something, but she couldn't hear it over the loud electric buzzing that reverberated through her skull. The wave passed slowly, gradually releasing her from its grip. Bruce's words finally materialized. "Esara? Are you ok?" He stood behind her she realized. She turned on wobbily legs to face him and saw that he had set Beth down and she leaned against him. "You ok?" His words echoed in her head, seeming much louder than they were. She shook her head, but she said "Yes, yes, I'll be fine." Bruce looked doubtfully at her with an arched eye brow. "Come on." she said, in an attempt to sound in control.
The Force still resonated in the hanger, she found, and it was making it hard for her to breathe. She tried to refocus and was stopped dead by the phantom shape that materialized a couple yards away.
Half-hidden behind a giant, makeshift cubical, an X-wing fighter sat amidst the clutter of tools and spare parts. The canopy was open and here and there, stray wires hung out, reminding her of an animal carcass. As she peered into the shadows her eyes made out what her heart half wanted, and half-hoped not to find:
Boldly displayed on the fighters nose-cone was a colorful array of spaceship-shaped silhouetts, some bearing numbers. The emblems cluttered the fighters forward sections and nestled in the midst of them was a stylized medallion, a symbol that etched fear into the hearts of Imperial pilots...her symbol. Unable to stop herself, Esara dashed ahead, leaving Bruce and Beth undefended.
______________________________________

Rhys sat crouched behind a parked TIE's black solar pannel, tense but impatient. Then he heard voices. Hushed voices. Two it seemed, a man and a women. Rhys's pulse spiked and spoke without thought. "It's them!" he'd leapt to his feet only to be yanked back by Mark. "Don't be a fool, Rhys, you don't know that." Rhys squinted at him in the dim lighting. I don't believe this... "Who else could it be?" he asked matter-of-factly. Mark didn't answer. Apparently he wasn't listening. The smuggler's weapon set trained on the spot just around the corner from their hiding place as one set of footsteps was rapidly closing on them...

((I finally posted again, sorry I took so long.))

Garn’s shuttle rose rapidly from the planet’s surface, and soon the atmosphere of Coruscant was left behind. On a starship in space, he now began to relax. This was really where he was at home, not in a restrictive command centre in the capital. Sonn his command loomed before him; four Star Destroyers. Here was real power, concentrated in those mile-long cruisers. The shuttle changed course slightly, heading for Garn flagship, the Entor. The only thing significant about it is that it was his flagship; for all outward appearances it was just a standard ship. Now the shuttle came in beneath it, and into the docking bay. As soon as the craft had settled to the floor, Garn stepped off onto his ship. He quickly made his way to the command deck, where he began to rapidly give orders concerning the rebels. They would escape of course, but he wouldn’t make too easy.

***************************************************

Crouching beside Mark, Rhys finally lost his patience. Without any warning he suddenly stood up and called out to Esara. Mark held his breath, but nothing happened. Had he been imagining things after all? But he could have sworn that the click he heard was the safety catch on a blaster. A Blastech E350 model to be exact; he had heard them often enough to know. So then why didn’t the hidden enemy fire? Rhys and the girl, Mark hadn’t heard her name yet, were both in plain view. After a short pause he stood up also, with no results. The smuggler shrugged. Maybe it was all just his imagination. Mark looked over at Bruce, who was supporting a woman, Beth, he guessed. She looked like she’d been treated pretty roughly by the Imperials.

“That Beth?” he asked.

“Who else do you think.” Bruce replied, “Listen, we’ve got to get out fast, where’s that ship of yours?” Mark pointed out the small transport, parked a short distance away, and began walking cautiously toward it. Reaching the exit ramp he quickly ducked inside; he still had the feeling that someone was watching them, waiting for the right opportunity. Running a quick check over the ship as he went, Mark ran to the cockpit and grabbed a disruptor rifle. That made him feel a bit safer; the highly illegal disruptor rifle could literally disintegrate an enemy. A cargo bay door slid open, and R4 moved out complaining loudly about having to hide from the Stormtroopers. Mark ignored him, and continued his quick check of the ship. All systems looked operational, so the smuggler moved back down the exit ramp, holding his disruptor ready for action. Mark assumed that Beth would have to be taken on board the Rapid Dragon. Even if she was a rebel pilot, she wasn’t in any shape to fly a fighter. He looked uneasily over the hanger again, and thought Should have gotten R4 to scan the area for life forms.

(( sry Telemnar, I've been sorta busy lately, but I'm back now and rarin' to go!))

As Esara studied her ship, she realized that things might not be as bad as they looked. Still, the ship looked totally lifeless, Wrench included. She could see where one of the Imps had pried open his control panel in a violent manner and silenced the droid by ripping out a handfull of wires. She cursed under her breath as she realized she would have to do everything manually.
She perked up a bit as she made her way around the craft, seeing with satisfaction that her security measures had kept the nosy Imperial techs out of all but the basest of the fighters systems. Their efforts to discover her secrets had been foiled. Determined to make due without the boarding ladder, she pulled herself up into the cockpit.
She plopped down in the all too familiar seat, savoring the comfort that came with familiar surroundings. Taking a deep breath, she cautiously flipped the switch. A dull roar, followed by a constant rumble told her that the engines worked. Encouraged she, reached up to activate the manual display. The barage of flashing red lights that greeted her made Esara flinch. Her shoulders drooped a bit as she surveyed the damage. Oh bugger.....
Everything was fried and judging by the myriad of blinking lights that indicated the targetting computer, it was beyond repair. Never used that anyway.... Life-support systems were operating on reserves becuase the X-wing's main operation center, its R2 unit, was not online. Shields seemed to be the only thing promising, but the old generator had always been fickle and to top it all off, the artilery was minus two proton torpedoes out of an original twelve because of Wrench's frantic reaction to the Imperial search party.
Esara fiddled with the comm system for a moment before climbing down from the still-running X-wing. With long quick strides she met up with the others, eager to hear what plans were being discussed. She guessed rightly that Beth would be ferried out in the Rapid Dragon, but wondered silently where Harlic's ship was. "I'm not leaving my ship." Esara said flattly. The statement hung lamely in the air for a few agonizing seconds. "No one's suggesting that you do." said Bruce. "Well, she can't fly alone." said Rhys, a bit too fervently. "Well there's half a dozen X-wings parked back there, so pick one." said Esara, sounding annoyed. "But they don't belong to us." said Rhys. Esara and the rest just stared at him in disbelief. "Well, seeing as all the pilots are dead, I don't think anyone will mind." she said sarcastically. "Besides, I don't need a wingman. It just so happens that the more fighters we take, the easier it'll be to defend the 'Dragon till we get out of dodge." She spun on her heelas to face her squadron mate. "You'll come with me, won't you Bruce?"

"I... I... uh... sure."

"*static* Bruce, you there? *static*"

Bruce Jerked out his comm, "Yeah, where are you?"

"Right outside."

"Hold on, we're on our way out. By the way, did you get Scram?"

"Right here"

"Good."

Bruce spun and raced across the hangar to the closest x-wing. He opened the canopy, plopped into the seat and began goign over all the systems."

Que Yu watched the rebels firing up the engines to their chosen craft. she decided that she would follow them. she began inching her way toward one of the fighters toward her left, hoping that they would be too preoccupied with the startup procedures to notice her.

An Imperial captain watched a holo-screen with growing impatience. He needed the hanger for a fighter patrol, but the rebels seemed to be taking forever to leave. They hung warily around their ships, and tinkered with the engines trying to get their favourite fighters running. The officer turned away from the screen and snapped to a lieutenant, “We’ve waited long enough, send a couple squads up there and chase them off.

“At once sir!” the lieutenant replied, and he quickly set about organizing the unit. It was two squads of veteran stormtroopers, with strict orders not to hit the rebels, but to fire close to them nonetheless. It was more than enough to scare the rebels away.

************************************

Mark was running a final check over his ship, and all systems looked operational. The rebels were all starting up X-Wing fighters, and Beth had just gone aboard the Dragon. He glanced over at Esara’s ship, and saw it was obviously damaged, and the R2 unit was out of action. Hope it lasts long enough to get out of this mess. He thought, Why did she have to pick that one? Aloud he shouted, “Alright R4, start those power converters!” then added under his breath, “If they will start.” The converters on the Rapid Dragon had needed repairs for some time, but Mark had never gotten around to it. A reassuring humming noise told him that they had fired up anyway. Standing on the boarding ramp of his ship, Mark took a last look around. Rhys had finally chosen a fighter and was just starting the repulsorlifts, and the others were ready to go.

Suddenly the hanger doors opened with a clang, and a burst of red laser blasts streaked in, followed by charging stormtroopers. Dropping the disrupter rifle, Mark drew his blaster and fired a few random shots as he dashed back up the boarding ramp and into his ship. “Shields up!” Mark yelled as he ran, “R4, put the shields up!” The droid had angled the deflector shields by the time Mark had raced to the cockpit and jumped into the pilot’s seat. Beth was already there, sitting in the navigator‘s position. “Hang on, this looks like a rough ride.” Mark commented to no one in particular as he engaged the repulsorlifts. The freighter lifted off the hanger deck swung around in the confined space, nearly colliding with a parked TIE fighter. Manoeuvring the ship out of the hanger bay, Mark engaged the main sublight engines and flew rapidly away from the planet’s surface. The X-Wings were traveling a short distance ahead of the Rapid Dragon, keeping a loose formation as the small flotilla left the atmosphere. R4 suddenly let out a loud whistle, and bleeped something the long-range scanners. Mark leaned over to check the scopes, and saw at once what had worried his droid. Quickly he transmitted a message to the X-Wings, “Look out rebels, two Star Destroyers and almost forty TIE fighter coming in fast!”

Esara scutinized her prey. For the moment they were just dots, but those dots were growing rapidly as the swarm of three dozen TIEs streaked towards them. As young pilot ran through the calebrations in her head, a smile krept across her face. Three squadrons vs. three pilots.....I've seen worse. It's just target practice...
Esara felt almost giddy despite the harrowing odds, content to be back in her own element, in a place where no one had ever shown her up or had any real opportunity of doing so.
She took a deep breath to ease the jitters and and flipped to the comm channel. "Oh, look! A welcoming party." said Esara, "Ready for target practice, boys?" she said, making no attept to disguise how eager she was.
"Ready when you are, Rogue." came Bruce Harlick's even tone.
"Rhys?"
"Sure thing."
"Good. Mark, I'd keep your eyes peeled for stray targets. We'll go ahead and engage the TIEs, teach em' to tangle with us! It's an uneven number, so you're flying solo, so don't be a hero. We'll take them one squadron at a time. Follow me."
Esara nudged her fighter forward, speeding on ahead. As they closed on the TIEs, the rebel pilot's locked their craft's foils into attack position.
Esara bore down on the leader, laughing as angry green laser fire splashed against her forward shields. Wanna play, huh?
Reaching down she pressed the trigger, watching the quad-cannon fire fling itself into space. Second's later, the leading TIE's cockpit imploded, becoming a roiling fireball. Esara flung her fighter up on it's port foil and skimmed past the explosion, breaking through the enemy squadron only to loop back. As she came around, she saw that the TIEs had scattered. "Fire at will, boys! Fire at will!"
The three X-wings wound expertly between the Imperial craft, making up with agility, speed and durability what they lacked in numbers. The X-wings' energy sheilds allowed them more freedom, while the sheildless TIEs struggled when their foes forced them into close quarters. Twice already, lightning fast snap-rolls from the rebel pilots had caused the TIE pilots to inadvertantly vape their own wingmen.
From the bridges of the nearby Star Destroyers, the whole battle resembled a cloud of gnats that spat red and green, silhouetted by the sphere of Coruscant. The scene was punctuated again and again by explosions, and yet there remained to be three sets of red lasers among the cloud. The rebels still lived....

((Ooc: Hope you don’t mind me using Beth a bit, Morion))

“Your flying solo so don’t be a hero.” Mark repeated sarcastically to himself as he watched the rebel fighters streak ahead and engage the TIEs. “That’s the last thing I’d do.” He hung back well out of the battle, watching the three rebel ships twist through the swarm of Imperial craft. They were good, better than most pilots that he’d seen, and certainly better than pretty well any Imperials. They were badly outnumbered though, and Mark always liked to be on the safe side. “R4!” he called out, “Be ready for the jump to hyperspace.”

“Jump to hyperspace?” Beth exclaimed. Mark started, he had more or less forgot about her. “You can’t just run away like that!”

“Who said I was?” Mark shot back, “I just want all the coordinates set, just in case!” Oh great! he thought, This will some trip with her for a passenger. “Listen girl, why don’t you make yourself useful and go man the turret guns?” To Mark’s disappointment, instead of leaving the cockpit Beth merely reached forward and activated the controls that allowed her to remotely operate the tails guns from where she was sitting. Well at least she knows what she‘s doing. “Stay sharp.” Mark commented, “I’m going after that pair of TIEs.”

Two Imperial fighters were straggling off from the main battle, and one of them was leaking plasma. The Rapid Dragon lined up at a long range and opened fire. Both fighters were blown away almost instantly by the freighter’s heavy weapons; what the ship lacked in manoeuvrability it made up for in firepower.

*********************************************

Garn Mardred stood on the command of his Star Destroyer the Entor, and watched with growing frustration as the three rebel craft outfought forty TIE fighters. The original idea had been to scare the rebels into jumping to hyperspace right away; the navy wanted the Coruscant airspace to be freed up as quickly as possible. But the effect was just the opposite, the X-Wings had stayed to engage the Imperial forces. Not only did this throw the regular naval patrols off schedule, but Garn was concerned that Till might be killed in the engagement, and his orders were to keep her alive. The commander instructed that more fighters be launched, and that they keep up the pressure on the rebels. Looking out on the battle with a powerful optical scope, Garn could not help but admire the way that the enemy ships fought. Violently twisting and turning, the X-Wings would disappear from his sight for a moment, only to reappear again, lasers flashing red. But Garn couldn’t let the battle last forever; he was losing too many fighters.

“Launch another squadron.” he curtly ordered, “TIE Interceptors.” This was his best chance, Garn calculated. Although unshielded, the dagger-winged Interceptors could outrun and outmanoeuvre anything in the rebel arsenal. That was always the way that the Imperial Navy made its fighters: trading off shields and armor for speed.

“Maybe the fighters should stand off, sir.” This useless piece of advice came from the Entor‘s Third Officer, who knew much about Star Destroyers and little about fighter combat. Garn didn’t bother answering, he didn’t feel like giving his bridge crew another elementary lesson in tactics.

Que Yu barely had time to dive into a ship as the fire from teh Imperials lanced out. with a grim, satisfied smile, she quickly ran her craft through startup procedures and joined the fray. she didnt know who was in command.... better report in and see if i can be of any help... Que Yu thumbed on her comlink and requested to be patched through to control... and after being denied, used one of her access codes to do it herself. Despite the skill of the rebels, it was a despirate fight. Too much energy was spent dodging fire than returning. While the first squadron hadn't been hard to take care of, the next two, came in such quick succession, the rebels were forced into defensive mode.
____________
Rhys' heart was racing as he tried to concentrate on the the TIE in his crosshairs while avoiding fire from the one on his tail.
Enemy fire drilled his shields and shook the craft violently, warning him that his armor was about to give. Firing blindly, Rhys swerved away from his persuer. The TIE followed suit, keeping up the pressure. Rhys turned his craft as if taking a wide loop to port, then snapped back. The manuver didn't have the desired effect. Instead of saving him, it brought him back through the line of fire, banging him around a little bit. Punching the throttle, Rhys decided to make a run for it.
"Some help here?!"
Esara heard Rhys' frantic voice over the comm. "I'm on my way." she replied. "Bruce, do me a favor and catch the one I just let go." she said, and peeled away leaving her would be prey relieved for a split second as she raced away to Rhys' aid.
As she streaked through the fray to find her friend, she saw something out of the corner of her eye. Manually activating the scanners brought a dozen TIE Interceptors into view on her HUD. Sithspawn! This could get ugly...
"Heads up Bruce! Interceptors closing at 2 o'clock."

Bruce ducked and dodged the blasts from the incoming ships. He circled around on a pair and vaporized the wingman. He weaved through the vast net or Interceptors that came in and hit is thrusters and spun the ship about. He powered up his torpedos and waited for a lock. At that moment, his ship shuddered under a barrage of fire as a TIE straffed him. He kept his targets on the interceptors and finally had his lock. He fired twice and watched as two interceptors exploded in a dazzling array of light. He cut away to avoid hittign the ball of expanding gas.

"Hang in there, Rhys. I'll have ya' out in a second." Esara said in her most reassuring tone. Dallows' persuer was no Interceptor, but the Imperial pilot's fluid, swift manuvers were a clear sign that he'd servived more than one mission. Her eyes narrowed as she brought her craft in closer to the TIE, leveling it in her crosshairs.
With any luck my blockheaded little imp, this'll be your last dogfight.
Her thumb hovered over the trigger, but she didn't fire. Esara was suddenly aware of something else, something far more pressing, sufficating, illusive....
She was yanked back to reality when the TIE suddenly juked away. Esara moved follow suit, but decided better.
"I hate to say this...." came her wavery voice over the comm, " but I think it's time we got out of here."
Rhys was baffled at first then he recovered and answered "Great to hear it from you."
Speaking to the others, Esara continued. "I'm transfering coordinates of a secure port. It's best to upload and be away as soon as you can. We'll meet up in port, mend our hurts and be on our seperate ways. Sound good?"

((Ooc: I was waiting for Aegnor to post, but I really can’t wait any longer))

Que Yu thumbed on her comlink and requested to be patched through to control... and after being denied, used one of her access codes to do it herself. "Que Yu Zen reporting to Command... do you copy?"

“Follow the standard transmission procedure!” snapped the Entor‘s bridge communications officer. “Report first to your squadron commander, who will send any relevant messages to the next level of communications.”

Garn overheard the lecture. “Officer, what was that about?” he asked.

“A random fighter pilot trying to bypass the proper transmission protocol and link directly to command, sir.” the man replied.

“And who is this ‘random pilot’?” Garn asked, with just a hint of sarcasm in his voice.

“A certain Que Yu Zen, sir. She did not give any operating number in direct defiance of Imperial procedure and…. “

“Quiet.” Garn snapped, “The pilot is a special agent of the Empire.” The communication officer’s face turned white at these words, and Garn continued, “Inform Que Yu Zen to keep a close observation on the X-Wing fighters and engage them if possible, but not to cause any lethal damage to them.” The officer hastened to comply as Garn Mardred stepped back up to his optical scope for a better view of the battle. The rebel pilots had been forced onto the defensive now, and although they were shill holding their own Garn worried that Till might be shot down and killed in the confused fighting. “It is time to end this!” he announced suddenly to his bridge crew, “Accelerate the cruiser to attack speed, and sound battle stations.” The Star Destroyer vibrated as its huge engines rapidly increased power. The helmsman executed a broad turn to bring the Entor into battle, as the crew scrambled to their stations.

“Shields intensified, and all turbolaser batteries are online.” the third officer reported.

************************************************************************

“What’s he talking about now?” Beth asked as R4 let out another whistle.

“Uh… I think it was ‘Star Destroyer on attack course.’” Mark replied as he leaned over the sensor scopes. “Or something like that. Yep, there’s an Imperial cruiser moving in, so its time for us to move out.” Putting his ship into a tight turn, Mark cut in the auxiliary power, trying to put distance between himself and the Star Destroyer. In fact, the Rapid Dragon, which was larger and less manoeuvrable than the X-Wings, would make a good target for the Star Destroyer’s heavy batteries. The small transport would also have to escape the planet’s gravity well before it could jump to hyperspace. Mark Nevri hoped that his ship wouldn’t attract any attention, but a laser blast told him to forget that idea. “R4, angle the deflection shields.” he muttered.

As he finished talking Esara‘s voice came over the transmitter, "I'm transferring coordinates of a secure port. It's best to upload and be away as soon as you can. We'll meet up in port, mend our hurts and be on our separate ways. Sound good?"

“Just peachy, girl.” Mark replied sarcastically, “If I live that long!” More laser blasts flashed by the freighter, and one or two struck home. Mark glanced over at the holo-screen display. The shields were down about 15% or so, nothing serious at the moment. “Enter those new coordinates of hers.” he commanded R4. The Star Destroyer was slowly gaining on the Dragon, which was still outside the range of any Imperial tractor beams. “I suppose I should be thankful for that.” Mark muttered to himself, “I’d sooner be blasted to pieces than a slave worker for the Empire.”

“What was that?” Beth asked.

“Just thinking out loud.” Mark replied, making it obvious he was annoyed with her. “Ok! Strap in, I’m jumping to hyperspace.” They watched the stars blur into white streaks as the Dragon‘s massive hyperdive engaged, taking them to, well.. where ever Esara’s coordinates were. Mark had forgotten to check the charts and find out.

Esara, Bruce, and Rhys fell into a wobbily formation. To Esara it seemed like the last sixty seconds had reaked havoc on her ailing craft. The stress of an all-out engagement was beginning to wear on the already frayed fighter. A none-too-reassuring, startlingly loud clunk made her wince. Comm'on, don't fall apart on me now! If she does this in real space, what's she gonna do when I make the jump? Esara knew well enough that if the X-wing didn't hold up, it would desentigrate. She'd be dead instantly. Taking a deep breath, she seized the controls and begin methodically uploading the coordinates to their "safe port", Ord Mantel, an out of the way Alderaanian trade post in the Bright Jewel Sector. She had some close friends there, the Travisten siblings, a pair of celebrated smugglers who were always willing to lend their services. The port was friendly and non-descript, but busy and Ord Mantel had the most lax banking laws in the galaxy. If you pay the fees, you could keep an account, no matter who you were.
Money, friends, a peaceful night's sleep. She couldn't wait.
Blinking lights at her left elbow told her the others were ready for the jump. "See you guys in port." she said. The formation fanned out and one by one the X-wings snapped from view.

Que Yu darted in and out of the rebels formation, shooting as her highly manuverable craft kept her out of reach of the rebel fire. She obeyed Garn's orders, only slowing the rebels down and inflicting minimal amount of damage with her ion cannon instead of the deadly turbolasers mounted to the ship's underside. she caught a transmittion of coordinates between the rebels for their hyperspace jump, but let it go. as the last X-wing jumped into hyperspace, Que Yu tried again to contact command. this time she was put immediatly through. "Awaiting orders, sir. Shall i pursue them or return to the base?"

(( Mark's not terribly friendly, guess it's just stress....hope so! ))

Half an hour had passed since the rebels disappeared and Gavin Horn was having a hard time understanding exactly why they'd been allowed to leave. He stood in the breifing room of the Entor, anxiously awaitng news, orders, anything. He'd been ordered to report to the breifing room, but now there was no one here to breif him. First they stick me under that old windbag Madred, and now they keep me in the dark...
He turned suddenly from the window he'd been staring out of and faced his collegue. The Imperial pilot wore a charcoal flightsuit and carried a datapad under his arm. Gavin looked expectantly at him. "Those our orders?" he blurted out, unable to restrain himself any longer. The other pilot ignored the question.
"Boy, Gavin, you look tense." Gavin's look soured. Of course I do you big oaf! I want answers! Contrary to his thought he said, "Aw, you know how it is. Ya' get get antsy sitting on your thumbs. I can't for the life of me understand what's going on here. Why would they let them go?"
The other pilot nodded slowly. He could see right through Gavin's cheraid. The man was mad because he wasn't allowed an attempt at glory. Gavin's comrad wavered for a moment, thinking of how fun it would be to play with him, but remembered his duty and dismissed the idea. Clearing his throat he said, "Well, Gavin, wonder no longer." with a slight smile, "We didn't let them go. We're tracking them. They put a homing device in one of the rebel craft. The Star Destroyers are preparing for a seige. We're going to follow the scum back to their base and wipe them all out." Taking the datapad out from under his arm, the man continued. "These are your orders. You're to report to Lord Vadar imediately for further instruction."
Vadar....wonder why? Do I sense a promotion coming on? Maybe the power hungry mongers finally realized that I am the one to bring Till down....maybe this isn't so bad after all...

((Ooc: Mark was just a bit tense, that’s all))

Mark was just starting to fall asleep in his seat when a loud beeping noise sounded from the computer. “Ok, Beth.” he called out, “We’re coming up on Ord Mantell.” Beth joined him in the cockpit as the Dragon dropped into realspace. Most of the planet was shrouded in pink clouds, with city lights shining through in spots. The X-wings weren’t anywhere to be seen, and Mark concluded that he must have outrun them with his ship’s massive hyperdrive. “Alright now,” he commented, “We’ll orbit the planet until your friends show up.”

“And any idea when that’ll be?” she asked.

“Don’t know. I have no clue what class an X-wing hyperdrive is.” He hoped this would keep her quiet.

“And what are you going to do, after this all?” Beth persisted, obviously just trying to keep a conversation going. Mark really felt like ignoring her, but he replied anyway.

“I’m going to drop you off and get as far away as I can. Tatooine, or Nar Shaddaa, or someplace like that. Did you think I was joining the rebels or something?”

“Well,” she commented, “I always think that the rebellion is the best place to be if the Empire’s looking for you.” Beth had a point, as much as Mark hated to admit that. No doubt descriptions of the Rapid Dragon were being flashed across the galaxy by now, and Imperial star ships would be watching freighter traffic closely. But fight to restore the Republic? That seemed like an insane goal.

“I don’t think I could.” he muttered to himself. “Not after the Clone Wars.”

“What?” Beth asked suddenly, “That doesn’t make sense to me.”

“Well …” Mark began, “You look to young to have fought in the Clone Wars, even though they weren’t really all that long ago. Well… I fought against the Republic then, and now… No, I don’t think I could fight for it now.” He fell back into silence.

((Ooc: I’ll post for Garn later.))

((Ooc: Just clarifying my lat post: As I understand it, this thread takes place just after the fall of the old Republic. Mark is over 30, so I calculated that he should have been old enough to at least fight toward the end of the of the Clone Wars.))

"Awaiting orders, sir. Shall I pursue them or return to the base?"

“Um…” Garn wasn’t sure what to do with Que Yu Zen. As a personal servant of the Emperor she wasn’t really under his command, but as long as her task was still to peruse Dallows he might as well have her along. “Board my Star Destroyer immediately.” he transmitted, “We will clarify matters once you are on board.” Mardred received an affirmative and watched as Zen’s fighter slid into the Entor‘s docking bay, then turned back to his bridge crew and demanded an after battle report. It seemed that the Rebels had transmitted some information among themselves just before the jump to hyperspace. The intelligence officers thought it might be destination coordinates, but they hadn’t succeeded in decoding them yet, and had relayed the transmission to Coruscant for further study. The navigation officer’s report was a more promising,

“The homing device on Till’s ship doesn’t have the power to reach us,” she said, “but judging by the Rebels’ last known trajectory I’d say they were headed for the Bright Jewel Sector. Once we get there, I don’t think we would have any trouble picking up the transmitter signal.”

“Signal the rest of the squadron.” Garn commanded, “We head for the edge of the Bright Jewel Sector.”

The upper levels of Ord Mantell’s atmosphere were not terribly crowded. Most traffic consisted of deep space transports and the odd mercantile vessel. Esara leaned her ship into a gentle arc and made a slow loop around the planet’s northern hemisphere.
He should be here by now….
Reaching for the control panel, she ran a manual scan of the immediate area and was pleasantly surprised to find the Rapid Dragon drifting in a parallel orbit a couple miles above her. “There you are.” she said aloud, steering her X-wing to intercept Mark’s flight path. At the last moment Esara swerved aside from her trajectory and drifted up beside the freighter. Smiling to herself, she flipped the COMM link to “on”.
“I see you made it in one piece.” her voice came rather loudly over the speaker.
Esara stifled a laugh when she saw Mark jump a little and spin around suddenly, trying to locate her ship through the Dragon’s cockpit windows.
“Relax, Nevri. I’m right here.” she said waving. Mark saw her and Esara fancied she could see his scowl from where she sat.
“I didn’t see you come in.” the smuggler said stiffly.
“Of course you didn’t. I got here before you.”
“Oh?” Mark retorted. “And where are the others?”
“They’re not here yet.” Esara replied trying to not to sound too amused.
“Really.”
“Let’s just say my hyperdrive isn’t exactly standard.”
“I could have predicted that.” Mark grumbled under his breath.
********************************
Later that evening, Mark, Rhys, and the remnant of Hunter Squadron sat comfortably in the back of a famous eatery in the urban district of Ord Mantell.
Esara’s friends, Dusque and Wess Travisten had welcomed the weary pilots warmly and bought drinks for everyone and they now sat around chatting and looking content, except Nevri, who felt increasingly out of place and had tried to excuse himself several times without success.
Esara had introduced Rhys to the Travisten siblings and the matter of his desertion had occupied conversation for a very long time, but after a lull it came to the inevitable and they became interested in Mark because he was the only stranger present. After he was forced to tell a sparse account of his history, he thought it was over. But it didn’t end there.
Esara had spared Mark a thorough questioning of her own and had done her best to be friendly and not intrusive. But when the subject of his loyalty came up, she couldn’t resist jumping in.
Eyeing him from across the table and fingering her untouched drink, she spoke.
“Well, you’re obviously not a fan of the Empire, but you fought against the Republic. I’m inclined to ask: What exactly is it that you do stand for? Anarchy?”
((to be continued....))

((Dusque Travisten is in the db))

Que Yu wondered what to do next as she piloted her small ship into the docking area the command ship. Once her ship was successfully locked into place, she shut down the controls and pushed the button to open the door. she jumped down, not wanting to waiting for the ramp to settle. she closed the door and watched the ramp retract with mild interest. smoothing her flight suit out, she decided to report in and see how the plans of those in command would effect her plans for Dallows. She felt the ship give a small lurch, and grabbed onto a nearby ship for support. She realized that the ship had just jumped into hyper-space. she waited until she regained her stability, then let go of the ship and looked around... she would hold the fort here with the Imperials, then take the ship... her lips curved into a cold smile... I wouldn't want to be Dallows right now... she shook her head. her first priority was to find... her train of thought was stopped as she saw a man approach her.

(( Okay, I have two characters: Zak Darklighter from Tatooine, and Chris Zegrad from... somewhere else I know I've stolen the name Darklighter from Biggs, but he could be a relative or something. I'm a little unsure as to how to bring them into the story, so if I do something wrong, just correct me ))

Zak's fingers hovered over the controls of his X-Wing, as he begun the descent down into the empty docking bay. He glanced up, just to check that his young protegé was still tailing him, as ordered.
The ship settled on the ground, and Zak slipped out of it, onto the ground, where he waited for Chris to do the same.
They had landed on Ord Mantell, because neither of them had any knowledge of the area, and needed to sort out some technical difficulties with both of the fighters.
The duo had been hopping from one planet to another, trying to find an abscence of Imperials. This was difficult to achieve, and on Orb Mantell, they were hoping to find a group of guys with Republican sympathies.
A pilot had tipped them off about this, after being given several drinks by Zak, and so here they both were.
Chris turned to the older pilot.
"Now what?" Zak shrugged in reply, and tucked his gun into his belt.
"Find somewhere to eat, I suppose.. I'm starving." The two set off in search of food.
