Ride in a boat with Sam holding the paddle. I'm a good swimmer and could also rescue Sam if he capsizes the boat. Falling off a horse at my age is definitely NOT an alternative.

But in a serious reconnaissance twenty Hobbits would slip through where Aragorn would get caught. Maybe, and only maybe, Elves can rival Hobbits for stealth. Image

Ummm, Earendil is able to fly Vingilot through spaces we humans can't survive, I seem to remember (nowadays we would call it a vacuum?). So Thorondor seems to be the better choice.
