things were going well in the pub and every one of the customers was satisfied, although some admitted to missing jeanne being there behind the counter to help them. vash was leaning against the back wall for a little bit when he had the strangest feeling that suddenly things were not quite right.
"hey, wolfwood, you see anything weird going on?"
"what? no... i don't think so."
"oh, alright." vash shrugged it off and went to refill someone's mug.

Jeanne didn't know whether or not to answer the door but she did anyway. Before her stood someone, man or woman, she didn't know due to the fact that they were covered in a baboon pelt. She was quite taken aback by the stranger as she said, "Yes?" "Forgive me for distrubing you today my lady. But my master has asked me to deliver this to you. He wishes that you send a reply back as soon as possible.", the stranger said as he held out a letter for her. To Jeanne he sounded like a man but she had been wrong before. She opened up the letter and looked inside reading what appeared to be an invitation to a dinner. She thought about it but didn't know what to say when she heard someone bounding up the stairs her way...

"hey, vash, i'm gonna go take a little break. be back in a bit."
"sure, no problem," vash replied. he had come to realize all the things it took to be a pub owner, it was really very amazing to him. i sure hope jeanne feels better soon. he glanced up the stairway towards jeanne's room. hmm... and i wonder where millie and meryl are at. vash shrugged to himself and started to relax a bit in the low buzzing of the pub.

Jeanne looked to the side and saw Wolfwood standing at the stairs staring at what he saw. "When is the dinner?", she asked taking her eyes off of Wolfwood. "Tomorrow night. I will be by to pick you up then?", the stranger asked. Jeanne really had a bad feeling about this guy. "May I bring a friend or two?", she asked thinking that it would be better to have a friend or two with her in case something went wrong. "I would have to ask my master. I will return later to answer your question.", the stranger said turning and then passing Wolfwood on the way out. Wolfwood really didn't seem to like him and approached Jeanne as soon as he was sure that the stranger was gone...

wolfwood watched as the stranger left the pub. "jeanne," wolfwood looked concerned, "who was that? what was that about a dinner?"
jeanne quickly explained what little she knew.
"hmm... well after all that with the android, are you sure that you want to be doing something like this? i mean... i know you can fend for yourself but... well... is this wise?"

meanwhile...

hmm... woflwood's been gone for a while... vash shrugged, he probably just went out for a smoke.

"I know that you and Vash, I'm sure, are concerned about me but this lord has asked me to be a guest in his house just to simply get to know me. I don't see much wrong with that.", Jeanne said as she turned to close her door. She headed to the stairs as she turned back to Wolfwood asking, "Would you and Vash like to come along. Just in case..."

"uh... well... uh..." when asked, wolfwood was not really sure of himself. "well, sure. let's go ask vash if he'd like to go." wolfwood and jeanne went down to the bar to find vash.
"hey vash," wolfwood waved him over. from there, jeanne explained the situation with some small interjections from wolfwood. they talked it over a bit and decided that vash and wolfwood would accompany jeanne for dinner but only for dinner. they felt staying any longer would be overstaying their welcome.

Jeanne smiled hugging Vash and thanking him. She turned and did the same for Wolfwood. "It makes me feel a bit more comfortable now-", she began but was cut off when a sudden darkness blackened the sky outside and horrible wind blew. Jeanne could sense a great amount of evil energy coming close to them. But then suddenly it disappeared... "I wonder what all that was about?", she asked herself out loud. Apparently she hadn't paid attention to her reaction during the situtation for now she found herself in Vash's arms. The two blushed slightly as they quickly stepped away from one another looking quite embarressed when suddenly the door opened and the stranger in the baboon pelt had returned....

vash was still blushing when the figure entered the pub, but by then, his expression had changed. wolfwood was smirking at the way jeanne had ended up in vash's arms, then also turned towards the stranger to hear the news.

The stranger swept through the pub like a shadow passing through a room. He came to Jeanne and bowed as he began, "My master said he would be more than willing to have some of your friends joining us for dinner." Jeanne smiled relieved to hear that. The stranger handed her a slip a paper as he continued, "Here is what the standard appareal is when confronting the lord. I will return later to retrieve you and your friends." And with that he turned and left. Jeanne looked down at the slip of paper and released a bit of breath. She looked at the guys as she began, "Okay guys... we got to get ready!"

"we have to wear what?" wolfwood seemed displeased at having to wear something other than his usual jacket and slacks.
"what do we need to do to get ready, jeanne? let's start soon. we don't want to keep the lord waiting too long." vash and jeanne went to get ready with wolfwood following behind, he was still uncomforable with having to wear something special.

Jeanne went to grab her money from upstairs and hurried back down stairs. "Come on Wolfwood, Vash! We have to go get these clothes..", she said as she headed for the door. She went to a tailor down the road. Vash and Wolfwood reluctantly followed. The tailor was a kind and gentle old man. Jeanne showed him what they needed and within a couple of hours time found exactly what they needed. What exactly they were to wear was not what any of them had in mind - Vash walked out of there wearing a red samurai outfit, Wolfwood wore a buddist monk outfit with a staff and Jeanne... well lets just say the boys really approved of it :naughty: :twitch: ... a short green uniform skirt and a tight uniform top. "Umm... why do I suddenly get the feeling that this lord is not exactly the greatest guy to be around?"

"yeah really... greeeeat... i'm a monk!" wolfwood sulked but soon stopped feeling sorry for himself when vash came out, then he just started laughing. "ha! you a samurai!?"
"hey... it's not that bad. i even kind of like it. red, my favorite color." vash flashed a smile and noticed jeanne in her outfit. "but... this is a bit.... odd."
"you're telling me! so who is this lord anyway? i'm not seeing how what we wear has anything to do with-"
"but if it will please him, we might as well enjoy ourselves." vash didn't want to hear any more of wolfwood's complaining. "think of it as like a costume party or something."
jeanne nodded, "yeah, and i think you look very good in that outfit." at that, wolfwood stopped his complaining and they awaited the return of the messenger in the baboon pelt.

The threesome began walking down the road back to the pub when suddenly the sky went dark again. "Oh no... not again...", Jeanne began as the winds kicked up her skirt flying every which way as she tried to keep herself well covered. Soon enough the sky cleared again and as the group headed back to the pub the stranger appeared again before them. "Ah... I see that you all are ready?", he began staring at Jeanne more so than the others. "Very well then... follow me.", he said and turned down a dark alley. They followed and at the end they found what appeared to be a vortex. "What the..", Vash and Wolfwood began... The stranger just smirked...

vash glanced at wolfwood, then at jeanne, then back at the vortex. well, this is new... i hope we're doing the right thing... vash thought as he followed the messenger and jeanne through the vortex, followed closely behind wolfwood who was now having some second thoughts.

Jeanne looked back at Vash as she began to step through the vortex. As they all stepped out on the other side they found themselves in front of a very dark ancient Japanese centry castle. They all looked at each other and entered the castle after the stranger...

the trio followed the messenger down several long hallways that wove their way through the castle. it seemed like forever going through the castle, but eventually they found themselves just one hallway away from the lord of the castle.

Jeanne walked down the hallways looking around. Suddenly something caught her eye: a little pale girl with white hair. Her face was emotionless as she held a mirror in front of her. She wore nothing but white and walked with a certain solmnness to her step. Suddenly the girl disappeared! As Jeanne turned back to Vash and Wolfwood they saw the entrance to the room in which the lord stayed. They went through the doors and as they did so the baboon pelted stranger disappeared and all that were there now were the trio and a man knelt behind a bambon blinds. "Welcome..."

vash entered before wolfwood, and they followed the instructions the messenger in the baboon pelt had told them on how to greet the lord. jeanne followed suite but vash sensed that she didn't have her usual look of calm control about her. he thought little of it as the lord motioned for them to move farther into the large room.

Jeanne came in and bowed to the lord. He motioned for them to sit and so they did. "I wish to welcome you to my castle. My name is Lord Higerashi. May I have your names?", the lord asked them. Vash and Wolfwood went first and then Jeanne stood and bowed, "My name is Jeanne. I run a pub in town for all wondering travelers to come and rest." She could feel the lord's eyes on her. "Yes... I know much about you my dear.", the lord said after laughing softly to himself. Jeanne looked up as she sat down again. "In fact I have to say that amazing fight I saw you take part in the other day on the outskirts of town was truely remarkable." Jeanne was totally astounish now...

vash didn't have to look at wolfwood to know that he was thinking the same thing, how in the world did this lord know about the fight?
"and you, vash, wolfwood. i must say, you had also proved to be truly amazing during the battle." the lord let a smile slide across his face.
ok... this is getting creepy... "um, excuse me, lord higerashi. do you mind if i..." wolfwood held out a cigarrete, this whole ordeal was making him jittery.

The lord nodded and Wolfwood stood, lit his cigarette and began to smoke. Suddenly a beautiful young woman appeared. Her hair was pulled back in a ponytail decorated with feathers, she wore a traditional kimono and held a white and red fan in her hand but it was her eyes that made her unique, a redish-pink color filled with determination and mystery.

She walked forward to Wolfwood as the lord spoke, "My servant, Kagura will escort you to a more airy place so that you may enjoy your... cigarette." Wolfwood didn't seem to much troubled by the young woman as the two left. The lord turned his attention back to the other two, Vash and Jeanne. "So... Jeanne is it? You must be wondering why I brought you here?", the lord began as he stood and pushed the blinds aside so that he could meet them face to face.

wolfwood followed the woman outside into a small courtyard. he walked to a tree and continued to smoke. the woman went away but wolfwood had a feeling that she was going to come back.

vash sat politely but listened with great intensity to everything the lord said; there was still something about the lord that made him uneasy. the blinds were pulled aside and vash and jeanne finally got to see who this lord was.

Jeanne was taken aback by the lord sudden approachment as well as how handsome he looked. "I have many a thing about you from my servant, Naraku. He has been watching you for quite some time for me.", the lord said as he gestured towards his servant in the baboon pelt.

Jeanne didn't like the feeling of all this. Suddenly the lord walked forward and stopped right in front of her. He held out his hand for her to take. She looked at Vash then back at the lord wondering what to do....

vash gave jeanne a look that said, go ahead...but be careful. jeanne took the lord's hand and was led across the room. the servant followed a few feet behind and motioned for vash to join him. vash was a little uneasy seeing jeanne getting farther away but he joined the servant when he realized they were going in the same direction.

wolfwood finished his cigarette and leaned against the tree. it was getting a bit chilly outside. it'd be nice to be back inside now... at that, the mysterious woman reappeared and asked if he wanted to return to the warmth of the castle. he answered with a simple nod and fell into step just behind the woman as she led the way.

Jeanne took the lord's hand and was led across the room a pair of blinds. The lord held on of her hands while the other hand was wrapped around her waist. As the blinds were moved back they saw a table set for 5. '5? I guess Naraku is eating with us as well...', Jeanne thought. The lord sat Jeanne and then sat him self followed by Vash and Naraku. Soon enough Wolfwood showed up and took a seat as well. The lord clapped his hands and servants showed up placing dishes on the table for them all to eat. "Shall we?", the lord said as he reached for a plate of roast pig and began eating. Jeanne nodded and next to her to Vash. Vash nodded and they both began to eat...

hey! food! wolfwood thanked the woman as he sat down and helped himself to some meat.
well this is certainly interesting... vash thought as he took a seat and began to eat. he had the urge to just come out and askthe lord, "so why did you bring us here? what is it that you want?" but he remained patient. his patience payed off in the next few minutes when the lord began to speak once again, between bites of the roast.

"Jeanne... the reason I brought you here was simply...", the lord began as he sat down his meat and turned to talk to Jeanne who was in the middle of drinking some wine. "I would like you to fight someone for me.", the lord finished as he took a sip of wine. Jeanne was a bit astounish by this sudden development she sat down her drink and looked at the lord. "Whatever for, my lord?", Jeanne asked not really caring whether or not she sounded to the lord. "Because... I want to see how strong you really are..", the lord spoke as he looked at her. Their eyes locked for a few seconds but it was all that Jeanne needed to see what the lord really had planned for her...

at that, vash raised his eyebrow for a flicker of an instant, trying not to show his growing uneasiness brought about by the lord. he tried to sense jeanne's feelings about this but could not. a strange silence fell over the group, even wolfwood's attention had turned from the roast. the silence seemed to linger for hours. then, there was a soft knocking at the door...

"ENTER!!", the lord commanded and at that a young boy entered. Appearing no more than 12, his hair pulled somewhat back wearing a skin-tight outfit and armed with a sickle and chain approached the lord and bowed. Image
"My lord we are ready...", the boy said nonchantly. The lord grinned. "Excellent Kohaku. Let us go then.", the lord said as he rose and held out his hand for Jeanne to take. She quickly looked at Vash and then taking the lord's hand she rose as well. The lord held one hand with Jeanne's while the other went around her waist as he escorted her to and through the doors and out unto a courtyard. The young boy stood before her as if wanting to battle her... "Let us begin!", the lord said as he spun Jeanne around as if in a ballroom dance and when Jeanne stopped she found herself facing of with Kohaku with evil creatures beginning to emerge from the darkness...

vash stayed behind for a while in the room with wolfwood. they soon rose and rushed outside when they heard the commotion going on. as they saw who it was that jeanne had to fight, their jaws dropped.
"that- that's who..." O_o;;
all they could do was watch with amazement as the two weaved around each other in the courtyard as the battle raged on...

Jeanne didn't know what to do except to ready herself to fight. Kohaku rushed forward throwing his sickle blade at Jeanne. Dodging with no problem, she threw a punch to the kid's side. She knocked the kid a good bit away from her. Just then the demons began to attack her. She dodged left and right fearing to touch them. Suddenly she looked the far corner of the courtyard where one of the gaurds was watching them. He had a sword on his and a bow and quiver on his back. She quickly disappeared and reappeared next to the man. "May I borrow your weapons?", she asked. The man nodded and handed over his weapons to her. She flew into the air, transformed and drawing the sword began to slaughter the demons... The lord was quite impressed as a sick and twisted smile appeared on his face...

hmm... she transformed. now she means business, vash thought to himself, then noticed the grin on the lord's face. how can anyone take pleasure in such things?
wolfwood was watching the boy's movements, how is he doing that?
by this time, the lord was truly enjoying himself, noting every movement that jeanne made.

Jeanne dodged left and right firing a blast here and there to fend off the demons. She jumped after a while and breathed a little heavy as she observed her work. Kohaku was coming at her again. She pulled out the sword and defended herself against the sickle and chain. After a while Kohaku wrapped the chain around the sword and with a tug and a throw he disarmed her and then injuried her slicing her side. "Ahh!", a word escaped her lips as she knelt on the ground not far from Kohaku or the lord gripping her side as it became soaked with blood. She looked over at the lord and saw that he was taking total pleasure in this... it was as if he knew she was holding back...

"JEANNE!" vash called out and rushed towards her but was stopped by wolfwood's outstretched arm.
"what to you think you're doing?" wolfwood hissed.
vash tried to get by to help jeanne.
"you can't just go out there. who knows what might happen. and have you noticed the lord? c'mon. i know you're smarter than that. and we both know that jeanne's not giving it her best. we saw what she can do."
vash stepped back, "you're right..."
they were both disgusted by the look on the lord's face as jeanne knelt bleeding. what a sick, twisted... vash grunted, it made him sick just thinking about it. his concentration again turned to jeanne, you can do this, jeanne! i have faith in you.
