Arwen smiled to her friends.
"I'm so glad to see you! But I want to see Harma, and after that I'll talk to you.". Then she went towards Harma's room.

Thara wanted to go after her mother, but she knew that Aragorn needed conforting.
"It's alright dad!" she said to her father who was bewildered. "You know mom, she will come to her senses. Do you want me to go after her?"
Aragorn glanced at Thara. He smiled to her. If his daughter talked to his wife, things would certainly turn alright. "If you can, please talk to her!".
Thara ran after Arwen, sying "Hi!" in a hurry when she passed Tasar and Terry.

Harma walked off with Arwen, turning as she heard Thara's footsteps. She glanced over at Arwen. "I think that your daughter has something important to talk to you about." she stopped so that Thara could catch up.

Tasar and Terry walked with Aran outside, to the ceremony grounds in the forest. Everyone was waiting for Harma, because she was now the leader of the land, so she would be looking over and beginning the ceremony.

Arwen stoped and looked at Thara, who finally managed to catch up with them.
"You are supposed to stay in bed! You have been wounded!" said Arwen.
"It's ok, mom! I'm alright!" lied Thara, altough she knew that when the poition's effects wear off, she will not be able to stand on her own, because, after all, her wounds were pretty ugly. But Thara continued: "Listen, it's not dad's fault! And neither is Legolas's... You know me, nobody can stop me. It was very dumb of me to fight in a real battle, when I never even saw one!"
Arwen smiled at her daughter. "You always prefered your father..."
"No, mom, honestly, it's not their fault, and I'm ok. isn't that right, Harma?" she said looking with pleeding eyes to the she-elf.

Harma watched the whole scene of mother and daughter, laughter sparkling in her eyes. She nodded. "Indeed it is true, Arwen. You have a whole new Aragorn in your care." She winked at Thara and gestured with her head down the hallway, where Aran was waiting patiently to escort Thara out to the grounds. "Now, you go with Aran down to the ceremony. And please make sure that Legolas and Aragorn get there, too. Your mother and I will be there shortly." As Thara walked off, Harma turned to Arwen and sighed, allowing her burden to slump her shoulders a bit and dull the light that was in her eyes.

"I am dreading this ceremony, mellon nin. I do not think I will be able to go through with the whole thing. I am supposed to sing, but I doubt that I can without my voice cracking." She shook her head and leaned against the wall, unable to speak any more for fear of breaking down into tears.

Arwen felt the urge to hug her friend and confort her, and actually did that.
"I wish I could take away all you pain, mellon nin, but I'm afraid I can't. You will just have to be strong enough to go through the ceremony. I will stay by your side, and Tasar, Terry and Aran will, also. Is there anything I can do for you, anything at all, please tell me!" she said, letting go of Harma.

Thara rushed to Aran. "Sorry for knocking you down! I was in a hurry. Now let's go find Legolas and dad, ok?"

Aran nodded and smiled, looped his arm in Thara's, and walked off with her down the hallway.

Harma smiled softly. "You have done enough already, my friend. Your reassurance has been enough." She sighed, stood straight, and smoothed out her gown. Standing tall, she appeared to be the regal leader she was. She smiled again, this time a brighter smile. "We should make our way down now, I would suppose." She straightened her circlet and brushed the hair behind her ears, then continued down the hallway and out the door, into the forest basked in the golden sunset.

Thara and Aran found Aragorn and Legolas outside. Her father was still bewildered.
"Come on, dad, I've talked to mother, and Harma too. She's not angry anymore."
Elessar felt relieved hearing those news, and together they went to the place where the funeral was held.

Harma stood on a wooden platform built in the center of the clearing. A pile of the bodies of the dead Elves lay on one side, and her father was laying atop a bed of branches, dressed in all his kingly splendor on the other side. Elves with torches stood on either side, looking solemn and grief-stricken. Once Harma was sure that everyone was present, she began to sing:

"Nóre linyenwa, yern' ar yunca
Amboiva corne ar litsiva rányala
olóre hepe ealarya perina
vantammes arta, i yára lie
ar ilya ambo nyára emmen
ar ilya nende emma nosso
telcontammar i litsess' aira
Súrinen oacola rato
ve ullume appanemme cemen sina
nan lúr unoti ar unyáraina
telcontammar yeryane vatar
úcénima litsenen rúmala
quentet ya sintuvamme
Lúmma ná vanwa:
Ananta emme larta er."

As she sang, the Elves with the torches lit fire to the pile of Elf bodies, each Elf in the audience whispering their own prayer. The Elves then lit fire to the branches around the king, and everyone began to sing a different song:

"Aphadan na guruth
an can vanadh nin
Hil an i aralin
i Aran tir."

As the king burned, freeing his soul to the Valar, the Elves as one bowed their heads. They remained in this stance until the last ember stopped burning, and a great wind picked up, blowing the ashes out of the clearing and over the forest floor. Harma looked up, raised her hands, and cried out to the heavens, "Hiro hyn hidh ab wanath!" The Elves responded with the same cry, kissed their palms and held them to their foreheads, then turned to walk into the palace. Harma remained atop the platform until after everyone else had left the clearing, tears running down her cheeks, and glad that the whole ordeal was over.

Tasar walked up to the platform, having let Terry and the others go inside before she did. She stepped up onto the wooden stage and wrapped an arm around her friend. "Come along, melamin. Your people await you." She gave a slight comforting smile and led Harma away from the clearing and into the palace.

When the funeral was over, Thara remembered something: she hated when people die.

Aragorn and Arwen joined her, not talking to each other.
"Oh, come on" said Thara in a low voice "you can't keep this up forever!"
"Tell your mother that!" whispered Aragorn.
"Mom, I told you, it wasn't his fault!"
"You could have died!" said Arwen, who had tears in her eyes because of the funeral and because of that thought.
"But I'm alive! Nothing bad happened. I'll be back on my feet in no time!"
Arwen didn't want to argue anymore.
"Ok, ok, you won. I forgive you for the last time, Estel!"
Aragorn winked at Thara, who simply thought "I am a genious!"

Tasar and Harma entered the great dining hall last, and everyone else was already seated. Harma sat in the center of the high table, Aragorn to her right, Arwen to his, and Thara to hers. On the right of Thara sat Aran. On Harma's left, Tasar sat, to her left Terry, and to her left Ohtar. The high table was on a dais above the other tables, at which everyone else sat. Harma stood and raised her wine goblet.

"A! Elbereth! Another battle we have conquered, but many we have sacrificed. We pray to you, my lady, that our great realm will see another day, and give thanks to you that we live to see this one!" There was a soft cheer and muttering of approval and agreement. Harma kissed the palm that was not holding her goblet and touched it to her forehead, then bowed her head for a moment. The others did the same. When she raised her head again, she took a long drink from her goblet and set it down. She then spoke to her people:

"We feast for the joy of our winning, and for the sorrow of our loss. Our hearts are heavy and light, and we have not given up. I thank you all for helping in this time of need... We would not be sitting here if it were not for the individual efforts of each of you." She bowed her head to the room, and then sat. There was a relative moment of silence before the chatter began: people talking, forks and knives scraping against plates. Harma turned to Aragorn. "When do you think you will be returning home, my lord?"

"Well" said Aragorn "I was thinking of staying here for a while. Not for Thara, because I can take her home on a horse, but for you. I thought you might want some help with all the bussineses you will now have to attend to. That is, of course, if you need my help and I do not bother."

Thara didn't say anything for a long time. This was the first ceremony of elven kind that she attended. "They are do different from us!" she thought. "They are so serious when it comes to important matters, while we humans tend to lighten tight situations."
She turned to Aran to express her thought.
"You know, you elves are, I don't know, too serious, almost pessimistic. We humans are very different, we don't like seriousness very much. But you have a way of handeling difficult things that makes them easy to pass. But, even tough we try to lighten things, they seem harder to us. That's something I'll never understand! Maybe you can explain, being elf and all..."

Aran turned to Thara and smiled. "You have not even seen half of the ceremony yet. The beginning is grave, yes, but then we celebrate for the life that the dead led. And for the cause they gave their lives for. We are not serious, really. Only respectful."

Harma took a sip of her wine and a bite of veal before answering Aragorn. "I do not really need your help, for I have done this before, but if you want to stay you are welcome to. You will not be a bother at all."

Once the eating was done, the last remnants of food cleared from the tables, those at the tables below the dais stood and moved their table so that they were lined up on the walls. A group of musicians walked in and stood atop one of the tables, ready to play. Harma stood and signaled the music to start.

They played a cheery tune, and several of the Elves on the floor below began to dance. Aran turned to Thara. "Would you care to dance, lirimaer?"

Aragorn smiled to Harma.
"If you don't need my help, I'll leave tomorrow, my Lady. Thara would be better at home, with all her friends. And beside, I left a lot of unsolved financial problems! I think they will be the end of me, they're such a pain. But you will see that soon enough."
After that, he invited his wife to dance, leaving Harma alone.

"I'd love to dance!" said Thara, knowing that the effect of the potion she was given will soon end and she won't be able to dance later. She was bewildered at how the elves acted. Even if humans weren't serious, they wouldn't have dared to dance at a funeral. But elves were different, and if she was going to be a good ruler, she had to get accustomed to different ceremonies.

Aran grinned and took Thara's hand, leading her out onto the dance floor and sweeping her away into an array of waltz music.

Harma turned to Tasar and stood. "Would you care to dance, my friend?" At Tasar's answering grin and nod, the two ladies walked out onto the dance floor and joined the crowd. Ohtar asked Terry to dance, and soon the laughing couple of woman and elf joined the group.

Thara and Aran danced for a while, until Thara's wounds began to hurt her.
"Aran, I'm sorry, but I do not think I can dance any longer. The effects of the potion are wearing off, I've strained myself more than I should have. Can we please go and take a seat? You can invite someone else to dance! I'm really sorry!"

Right next to them, Arwen and Aragorn were dancing happily.
"How long has it been, honey, since we danced together?" asked Aragorn.
"A very long time. There are so many problems in Gondor, you don't even have time to breath."
"Yes, maybe. Don't worry, starting tomorrow, I'll make sure I always have enough time for you and Thara."
"Talking about Thara, I still haven't forgiven you for getting her wounded!"
"Oh, come on, honey, don't start it again!"
Arwen laughed. She always liked to taunt Aragorn every time he did something wrong.
The two continued to dance, until they saw that Thara and Aran stopped, and realised their daughter must have exhausted herself.

Aran nodded. "Of course, we can sit. But there is no one here that could possibly take me away from you, even if they did ask for a dance." He gave his charming half-smile and led her over to one side of the room, where the chairs from the table had been arranged so that those who did not dance the entire time could sit and talk together.

Terry finished her dance with Ohtar, who was immediately taken by another woman, and walked off the dance floor to sit with Aran and Thara. She smiled at them politely, then looked up at the head table, rather surprised to see that Legolas was the only one who had remained sitting. All of the elves that she knew loved to dance, and she could see several elf ladies on the dance floor watching Legolas with admiring eyes.

Aragorn and Arwen, seeing that Thara stopped dancing, also stopped and took a sit next to their daughter.
"Do not worry, Thara!" said Aragorn "Tomorrow we will be leaving for Gondor."
Thara almost choked hearing this news.
"We what?" she said, unable to believe what she heard. If they left, that meant she wouldn't see Aran anymore. He was surely going to stay with Harma, Tasar and Terry.
"Yes, that's right, we're going home." smiled Arwen, takeing her astounishment for joy.
After that, the royal couple left, leaving Thara with her mouth opened.
She turned to Aran, wanting to see his reaction.

Legolas sighed. It was always the same, every she elf stared at him. Of all the elves, he didn't like dancing. And he couldn't stand being stared at. But, for good or bad, he knew a way to get away from the she elves. Walking over to Terry, he smiled and said "Would you care to dance?".

Aran frowned a bit, shook his head mentally, then smiled faintly. "I cannot go with you post haste, but I can assure you that I will visit soon. I have to help Harma with her 'settling in.' But I will find as many excuses as possible to see you." He brought her hand to his lips, his eyes never leaving hers. "I promise you that."

Terry grinned and stood. "It would be an honor, my lord." She allowed herself to be led onto the dance floor by the regal elf, enjoying the envious looks she received from the other elves.

Tasar watched Legolas and Terry and grinned. "You are not the only one who has a slight yearning for our Mirkwood prince, mellon nin." She gestured with her head over Harma's shoulder and Harma turned to see.

Harma had to fight her jaw from dropping to the floor, had to fight the angry blush that rose to her cheeks, and had to fight the couple tears of betrayal from revealing themselves. She merely watched them for a moment, then tore her eyes away and back to her dancing partner, smiling a very slight and very forced smile. "How lovely."

Thara smiled to Aran. "I knew you would find a way! But, to tell you honestly, I kind of miss my friends: Lyona, Narthol, and especially my best friend Zylon. Us four have been through a lot together. And, Aran, help Harma as much as you can, ok? Must be hard for her... First make sure she has settled in, and then think about me! I want you to promise that!"

Legolas saw the glances that Harma threw at him, and realised he did a very big mistake. He had no intention of upsetting Harma when he invited Terry to dance. He only wanted to get away from the she-elves. But he knew how to set things right again. When the dance was over, he would excuse himself, invite Harma to dance and dance with her all night.
"Legolas, my old friend" said the elf to himself "Harma isn't the only one falling in love. You like her, and you know it!". He smiled to himself, being glad that he finally felt feelings such as love.

Aran smiled softly. "I do not think I will be able to comply with that, as I will be thinking of you every moment that I am awake and every moment that I am asleep... But I will make certain that Harma is taken care of before I act upon my thoughts of you."

Tasar frowned as she spun Harma around. "Amin hiraetha, mellon nin?"

Harma shook her head and stepped away from Tasar, abruptly ending their dance. "I need a breath of fresh air... excuse me." At Tasar's nod, Harma walked out of the hall, glancing briefly at Legolas and Terry before she walked into the hallway, done the hall, and onto the balcony at the end of the hall. There were many balconies in the palace of Mellryn, for they enjoyed in the outdoors... many hallways had no walls so that the trees could grow inside, much like Rivendell. She leaned against the railing of the balcony, watching the moonlight sparkle on a lake below.

Thara sighed. "It's going to be very hard without you, Aran. And, unfortunately, I think that, as time passes, we will forget each other. I just hope I am wrong."

Legolas saw Harma, and couldn't help himself.
"I'm sorry, Terry, but I have some important matters to attend to!" he said and left Terry alone in the middle of the dance floor.
He hurried after the she-elf and found her sitting by the balcony. He slowly approached her and swallowing hard, he wispered:
"I acted very dumb tonight, and I apologise, Harma. I danced with Terry not because I felt anything for her, but because I wanted to get away from those glances! And you were no where in sight! But I want to talk about something very important to me. Will you listen?"

Aran frowned at her last words and shook his head. "I will never allow myself to forget you, Thara, no matter what happens." He leaned across the distance between them and placed a soft kiss on her cheek. "I promise you that."

Tasar, seeing Terry left alone, walked over to her and without a word swept her away into the dance.

Harma turned to Legolas, the light from the stars reflecting in her slightly watery eyes, and she nodded once. "Lastathon le."

Thara let her head fall on Aran's shoulder, closing her eyes, feeling relaxed because of the elf's words. She whispered: "I never want to forget you, even if you would."

Legolas took a deep breath before saying anything.
"Harma, I didn't realise till now, but you and I... well, we've been through a lot together. I feel for you something I never felt for anyone else! I'm falling in love with you, Harma! I know I didn't act that way, but it is true. I only wonder if you share my feelings."
With this, being afraid of what he was going to her, he turned his back to the she-elf, sighing.

Aran wrapped an arm loosely around Thara's waist, well aware that her parents were in the room and could very easily be watching them. "You cannot forget me, lirimaer." He smiled his boyish little smile as he continued, "I am too special to be forgotten."

Harma listened to him, never looking over at him as he spoke, keeping her eyes trained on the lake below. She took a shaky breath as he finished and looked down at her hands. "I think you know by now, Legolas, that I have shared your feelings for quite a time now. I cannot express in words what joy you give me by telling me that I have finally earned your emotions as you have mine." She was about to turn to look at him when something down below caught her eye. She frowned and stared at it for a moment, until she realized that there were several other forms approaching out of the trees. She gasped and jumped back from the balcony. She turned to Legolas, eyes wide. "We are being attacked!"

Leoglas knew what to do immediately. He rushed to Aragorn, telling him they are being attacked. The King yelled to his men, who were also in the room: "We are being attacked! Every men must prepare! NOW!". All the Gondorian soldiers rushed to take their swords and shields from where they left them, and in a few moments they were back, waiting for further commands from their King.
Aragorn was waiting for the elves to prepare themselves. He turned to Arwen:"I want you to take Thara and go to her room. Lock the door, you should be safe in there!"

Thara heard her father's words and wanted to get up. But she found out the effects of the potion wore off. She turned to Aran: "But how can this happen? I thought we won!"

Harma ran to her room, pulled on her leather vest over her dress, picked up her bow, fastened her sword around her waist, and ran back out again. Tasar and Terry had obviously heard the news and were also prepared for a battle. Harma ran back into her room with the two women and stood out on her balcony, which was situated directly above the front doors. There were at least twenty orcs standing outside the doors now, and more were pouring out of the trees. "I wonder who their leader is... he is obviously very determined to bring us down," Harma whispered to the other two.

Tasar nodded and trained her bow to the orcs below. "Just give the word, Harma."

Harma also held her bow ready, aiming at the orcs, "Hado!" The two released their arrows, aimed again, and fired. The orcs seemed not to notice that their numbers were already dwindling, until one looked up and growled at the others. Harma and Tasar jumped out of the balcony as a volley of arrows shot towards them, peeking around the wall occasionally to shoot. "Alright, that was brilliant," Harma said. "Now we must warn the others, though I am sure they already know."

Tasar nodded and began to walk out of the room, careful to stay out of the path of any of the arrows still coming at them. Harma moved to follow her, and a sudden arrow flew through the window and hit her in the left shoulder, followed by another in the side. She fell to her knees, but unfortunately the other two women had already left. Harma struggled to her feet, arrows still protruding from her, and stumbled out of the room.

Aran shook his head. "The orcs live in large numbers. I knew that what we fought could not possibly have been the entire army. Apparently I was right." Seeing that Thara was in no condition to move, he picked her up and led Arwen to a room where they would be safe from harm.

Aragorn heard the orc growl, and knew that Harma started the battle.
"Troops, follow me!" he yelled to his soldiers.
"If we attack now" thought Aragorn "while they are not watching us, focusing on another place, we have a good chance of killing almost half of them, before they attack us.". Elrond thought him that the element of surprise may bring victory to the one who knows how to use it.

Aragorn and his army had just left the room, when Tasar and Terry ran in.
Legolas felt something was missing. "Where is Harma?" he asked.

Thara thanked Aran for bringing her, and was about to ask him not to fight. She felt that if she didn't see him, somethig bad was going to happen. But Aran was a great warrior, and it would have been a shame for him not to take part in this battle.
Thara whispered to him: "Be careful, ok? I want to see you back in one piece!"

Aran grinned. "I will." He kissed her, briefly, before locking the door and running down the hall to join Tasar and Terry.

When he arrived, the two looked quite confused. Aran frowned. "What is wrong?"

Tasar turned to him. "We do not know where Harma is. She was following us... at least, I believe she was..."

Terry shrugged. "She can take care of herself. Let not the battle wait any longer." She ran after Aragorn and the army, raising her sword above her head. Tasar followed just as quickly, and Aran took a moment before he did as well.

Down the left hallway...

Harma stopped and leaned against the wall. She knew that she was getting blood all over the floor and now the pristine walls, but she could not have cared less at the moment. She slid down to the floor, the loss of blood and the extreme pain causing her mind to start to shut down on her, and also causing a depletion of energy. She groaned, very softly, "Legolas..." Before passing out on the floor.

Legolas didn't follow Aran to the battle. He felt something was wrong. He started looking for Harma, altough he didn't know the palace, and he had no idea where Harma was.
He rushed through all the coridors, cursing everytime he came to a dead and.
After almost one hour, he finally found Harma. She was surrounded by blood.
"No!" yelled Legolas, kneeeling by her aside.
"Please, Harma, do not do that to me! You're too important, I can not lose you!".
Feeling her heart, he realized that it was beating. He took a piece of his white shirt, and covered Harma's wounds with it.
He took her in his arms, and, not knowing where to go, he rushed to the only chamber he recognised, Thara's room. But the door was locked.
"Open!" he yelled.
Arwen and Thara recognised Legolas; voice, and opened the door. He rushed in, and placed Harma on the bed, near Thara, who was sitting on the edge.
"Arwen, please, do what you can for Harma, she has been wounded. I'll go get Tasar."

Legolas left the room, running to the exit, where, fortunately, he found Tasar close by.
"Tasar!" he yelled. "Harma has been hurt, I found her. Follow me!"

In the mean time, Arwen didn't lose time. She got up and got the bandages which were sitting on a shelf, then cleaned Harma's wounds with water, and tied them with the bandages. Luckily, the wounds weren't infected, nor did they present any sign of poison. After that, not knowing what else to do, Arwen waited for Tasar to come.

Tasar, visibly paling at the news of her friend, rushed after Legolas and into the room. She paled even further at the sight of her friend, then unwrapped the bandages that Arwen had just wrapped. She smiled, a bit. "You did well, Arwen. Fetch me those leaves, over there." She motioned towards a jar on a table nearby. After receiving them from Arwen, she chewed one and then placed it on Harma's wound. Harma moaned a bit at the pain this action caused, and Tasar seemed to take this as a good sign. She then wrapped the wound again with a clean bandage. She performed the same on the other wound and sighed.

"All we can do now is wait. But not here... Legolas, come with me." She seemed to take authority well, even though she was of no royal blood or training. She and Legolas left and locked the room, leaving Thara and Arwen alone with the unconscious Harma, who was breathing still but in very small and very shallow breaths.

Legolas groaned. "Why do I have to leave?" he said, wanting to stay next to Harma, to take care of her. "I mean, I'm surely no going to do any diference in this war...and, I..." but she shut up, not wanting to tell Tasar about his feelings towards Harma.

In the mean time, Aragorn kept fighting. There were only a few orcs, but that was what bothered him. They didn't seem to have a captain, and orcs rarely charged without a captain, and in such small numbers. He couldn't tell, but he was sure this wasn't right. But he didn't have time to think, as the remaining orcs were charging from all directions.

Thara felt her heart aching. She put her hand near her heart and sighed.
Arwen saw her: "What is the matter?"
"Well, all this made my wounds open. I think they are bleeding! But it's nothing to worry about!"
Arwen cast a dark look at her daughter. "You said they healed!"
"Well, I lied. But that is not a crime! And, besides, it's not far from the truth. My wounds will heal soon enough."
Arwen smiled at her daughter. She always seemed to have a way to get out of trouble.
They fell silent, waiting for the war to end.

[Sorry! I went away for holidays and just got back last night]

Tasar sighed and grabbed Legolas's arm. "There is no time for you to moan over your 'lost love', Legolas. Everyone is important in battle." She was a very perceptive elleth, and therefore had been able to tell from his reactions how Legolas felt towards her friend.

Aran continued to fight, detached from the battle, praying for his friend's life. He knew that Terry beside him was doing the same, and the two easily slaughtered all orcs that stood in their path.

(Happy New Year!)

Legolas wanted to argue, but Tasar's voice was very commanding. He decided to do what he was told to. But he couldn't help thinking about Harma, not even caring about the war.

Aragorn saw Aran and decided to tell him about his doubts. He made his way throught the orcs and reached Aran.
"Aran, listen, I have something important to tell you! Don't you think that it is strange for a bunch of orcs to attack without a captain, and in such small numbers? I find this weird, altough it may mean nothing important!"

Aran continued to fight with a fierce vengeance. "I find it very strange, my lord. And I think it is very important. These orcs are smart... too smart... They know that if they attack with their numbers little by little and slowly kill all of us off, it will be an easy win for them. What we really need to do is find out where the rest of them are and sneak attack them."

Terry heard Aran speaking with Aragorn and turned to them. As she did, an orc moved to push his sword straight through her stomach...

...but before he could, she turned and deflected the blow with her blade and took his head off. She turned back to Aran. "I will gladly scout them out for you."

"Then it is settled! Terry, please find the remaining orcs. Then come back and report, without attacking any of them! Till you return, we would have slaughtered these creatures!" said Aragorn, being glad that someone was brave enough to offer to be a scout. By what he knew, scouting was a risky bussines, because the scout was in danger all the time.
"But," he added "I would like someone else to join you! If something happens to you or that someone, the other can report back, and we can save the wounded! Perhaps Aran can join you..."
