Hoshash yelped as the others began running openly towards the cave entrance. She waited until she was the only one left, then she began sneaking towards the cave.

"Hey, you there!" Hoshash froze in the middle of a step, then she crept together with a very guilty grin on her lips, a grin that faded as the three soldiers of the watchpost came closer and surrounded her.

"What were you doin', out running on yer own again, huh?"

"Naaar, nar, no no," Hoshash said with a look on her face that shone 'I'm guilty'. "I-I was.. scouting, yeah, scouting."

"And what did you see? Where's the army?"

"Army? Far, far away. Them scouts're lookin' in the wrong part of the forest." Then she began jabbering about her 'scouting trip', repeating things and interrupting herself with completely irrelevant details, like the fact that the trees had eyes and the stones had teeth and tried to bite your feet, or that the water tasted like moonlight. After a while of listening and trying to follow the logic in the snaga's inane babbling, one of the uruks roared in sheer frustration, grabbed Hoshash by the neck and threw her towards the cave.

"And stay there!" he roared after her as she landed and rolled into the cave. Well inside, she got to her feet and shook the dust off herself.

"That way," she said, pointing at the dark tunnel in the far end of the cave.

Terry peered down the tunnel, then looked over at Hoshash. "Are there any more scouts?"

Aran took a step into the tunnel and closed his eyes, taking a deep breath. Tasar recognized what he was doing and did the same. Her senses were stronger, so Aran stopped and allowed her to do the investigation. She could feel the slowly weakening life of their friend drift up the tunnel but no others, and shook her head. "No scouts. Let us continue." She inched down the tunnel, peering into each newly visible foot of darkness before continuing into it.

Aragorn couldn't see anything. He was raised by the elves, but he didn't have their abilities. And he never liked not knowing where he was going.

"Legolas," he whispered "are you sure we're going the right way?"

"Aragorn, stop it. Relax. This is the hundred time you asked me that. I trust Tasar, she is wiser than me."

Suddenly, they came to a big cave, well lighted.

"What is this?" asked Aragorn, seriously doubting that Tasar led them to the right place.

Hoshash peeked out from the corner.

"Funny. Uruki see clearly in caves, have no use for firey sticks." She sniffed at a dead body that lay in the entrance to another tunnel.

"Hm, Pushdug's dead. Someone's been fighting. Or they just wanted his gear," she said. Then she went back to Aragorn.

"That way," she said and pointed at the tunnel where the dead orc lay, " splits up into two after the first corner. One way leads to the smithy. The other way leads back to the surface far up in the mountains. That way," she pointed to another tunnel to the far left, " twists and turns many times, splitting up into many different ways. but the main tunnel goes almost straight to the prisons and torture chambers, where the prisoners are kept." She thought for a moment. "Perhaps that's why it's called 'prison'. Always wondered about that word."

She snorted. "But there's always lots of soldiers down the main tunnel. The store rooms are there, and the places where the food's prepared. There are other, less traveled paths too, but they.. could be dangerous." Hoshash crept together a bit, looking around with a frightened look.

Tasar ran a hand through her mass of hair and sighed. "I say that we opt for the more dangerous, less traveled paths. I do not feel like being attacked by Uruk soldiers."

Terry frowned. "But it may be better to go down the main path. We cannot get lost.

Tasar turned to Terry. "But we have a greater chance of being killed, and not saving Harma."

Terry shook her head. "The other way sounds too dangerous to me."

Tasar nudged her and smiled. "You have no sense of adventure!"

Aran merely looked over at Aragorn, awaiting his decision. They would ultimately get to Harma either way. It would just take longer one way, to him.

Aragorn thought for a moment.

"I think we better take the more dangerous way. We have more chances of finding Harma if we keep away from any battle. Legolas, mellon nin, what do you think?"

"I agree." said the elf quickly. They were loseing too much time. Harma could be tortured, or even lie dead somewhere. And they were argueing about which way to take. "Let's just go!" he added.

"Alright, we take the dangerous path. Lead the way, Hoshash."

Hoshash nodded, and began walking down the tunnel that led to the prison, all the while muttering to herself.

"Hrmph, tarki always like this, running head over heels into the unknown? We snaga may be dumb, but we're not stupid! Always ask what the mission is before assign as volunteer, and always ask what kind of danger before choosing path! But tarki be drartûl now, they say we take this way, then we go this way too. Afar ûk za pagurz urdani agh shumjábi..." she kept spitting out words in her crude orcish tongue as she walked.

After a while, they left the main tunnel and Hoshash led them into another smaller tunnel that winded slightly downward to the left. Now the torches began to appear more seldom. After another while, Hoshash stopped at a torch.

"Tarki don't seem used to tunnels," she said. "This be the last torch on this way. You need light, then take this. Soon, we need all sight, 'cause we'll be reaching the caves. The real caves, not made by uruki or za shakutarbîki... those short things with axes and hair all over their faces. No, much older, before uruki or tarki walked the surface...

Then we must run, very fast, to reach the other tunnel before the, uhm... things, catch sight of us. Trust Hoshash, you don't want to be there if they do. Huge thachborki.. uhm, mean spiders, and big big things with slippery skin and tentacles coming out of their mouths. And others.. no name for them, in any speech Hoshash thinks.

Other tunnel was made by tark snagas who tried to escape, but only thing they escaped to was into clutches of the beasts down here." Then she was quiet and waited for their decision, the echo of her voice dying out around them.

(((I'll make a little wordlist in case you're wondering what Hoshash is talking about ^-^

Krîtar - captain, high in command
drartûl - commander, lower in command
Afar ûk za pagurz urdani agh shumjábi - Of all the stupid decisions and negotiations
shakutarbîk - dwarf

thachbork - spider)))

"Well, I don't think we can turn back now. At least we have a chance of slipping unnoticed."

Legolas came close to Aragorn and muttered.

"I hope you know what you are doing. Mellon nin, I know this creatures, spiders as you call them, and they are horrible. In Mirkwood there are a lot of them. Only once I saw one near the palace. It took 25 men to defeat it, and 10 of them died. If they spot us here, we are dead for sure."

"Legolas, we have no other choice." answered Aragorn calmly.

He turned to Aran, Tasar and Terry, with an inquisitive look, waiting for their decision.

Tasar shrugged. "We have no other choice." She reached up and grabbed the torch, handing it to Terry. She looked back over at Hoshash. "Continue."

Terry held the torch high, revealing as much of the rock and dirt in front of them as possible. The others, she knew, did not need the light as much as she, and she was a bit afraid of the dark. She shuddered at the thought of giant spiders.

Aran drew close to Terry. "No harm will come to you, pinilyaer. I promise."

Aragorn walked in the dark, behind Aran and Terry, not even knowing where they were going. But that was not his problem. He looked at Aran and Terry, and how close they were.

He frowned. If Aran loved Thara, he had to understand that such closness with other women, even his best friends, was not a very good thing. But it wasn't the time to talk about that.

He looked at his sword, which was glittering a little in the dark. If anything attacked them, they will be ready.

"Aragorn, I do not like this." said Legolas. "The spiders are terrible, they will kill us before we can even move a finger. I prefer the uruks."

"Legolas, stop it. You are actting like a two year old. Nothing will happen, you will see. Honestly, if I didn't know you,I would say you didn't love Harma."

At this, the elf didn't say a word, but simply looked at Aragorn as if he insulted him. But he continued to walk near his human friend.

As they went on, the tunnel grew larger. Suddenly the walls disappeared around them. The cave they had entered was huge, the light of the torch was not bright enough to reach the ceiling. the far end of the cave was too far away to see, it could've been miles to it. There was pillars and stalactites dropping from the unseen ceiling, great vaults of stone led to other caves that stretched far off in the distance.

Those who had been to Moria knew there was two great differences between the mines and this underground world; the first one was the water. The sound of dropping water could be heard all around them, and the far-off thunder emanating from one of the stone vaults told of the presence of an underground waterfall.

The second difference was the life. Everywhere mosses and lichens grew on the moist ground, further off the shapes of mushrooms of different sizes could be seen. And there was light too, in the main cave, in a distance that seemed like several hundred meters away, beams of white and eerie green light could be seen.

Hoshash nervously showed the way in the dark, her ears moving all the time, to be able to spot the tiny sound of approaching danger, should it come, and her bare feet splashed now and then as she stepped in one of the pools of cool water that were everywhere on the ground. Now and then their path was crossed by little streams, some filled with algae and lined with mushrooms of different shapes.

After a while, the ground dried somewhat and rose upwards towards a small plateau. When they reached it, the saw that the road led over a small but deep chasm, on a flat stone that had been placed to serve as a bridge over it. Here in the more dry parts of the cave world the huge webs of unseen spiders was slowly moving like grey veils in a wind that seemed to emanate from the chasm. A small opening in the wall on the other side of it indicated where the door to the prisons was, muffled sounds of pain and torment came from it.

"Remember, tarki," Hoshash whispered, "don't try to stand and fight if we be spotted. Bravery will only lead to that, here." She gestured with her hand to the long dead body of an orc. The skin over the skeleton was intact, as if it had been... sucked dry of its flesh and blood. Hoshash winced in fear and slowly began to advance down towards the bridge, all the while ready to run.

Aran and Terry followed, the torch visibly quivering in Terry's hand with her nerves. She nearly dropped it and Aran took it from her, holding it steady. She smiled in gratitude and they both continued walking, neither making a sound.

Tasar followed her friends closely, ready to tell them to run or run herself at any moment. None of the three made any sound. The only sound that penetrated through their silence was the movement of water, the human's and Hoshash's footsteps, and the muffled sounds of pain. Tasar winced at one particularly shrill cry, and hoped that she was not correct in guessing that it belonged to Harma.

Ever since they started hearing the sounds of prisoners being tortured, Legolas was getting paler and paler. He could almost see Harma being beaten, tortured, screaming for help. And he wasn't there for her.

The elf started moving faster, but Aragorn placed a hand on his shoulder.

"We have to be careful, mellon nin. You realise that dead you won't be much help to Queen Harma."

Legolas nodded, but the sense of dread didn't leave him.

"Hoshash" said Aragorn "how long is it till we reach the dungeons? And when we turn back, do we have to take the same road? Because it's going to be difficult. Harma will probably be wounded, and the road is long."

"Oh, not far, not at all. Just behind that door there," she said and pointed at the opening. Then she thought for a while, scratching her head ad looking around, as if seeking an answer from the darkness around them. "Hoshash know there are other ways out. But chances are the road is ever longer to them, and chances are they are blocked when we reach them, or that they are guarded. On other hand, chances are, if Uruki discover us, they will be waiting for us in the opening we came from." Hoshash trampled nervously. "Must get tarki out alive, but Hoshash don't know!"

Suddenly, she got an idea and shone up. "There is another way too! If we're not careful, it might be even more dangerous than the other roads together. But if the Old One is still here, then she might help us! She doesn't like visitors that much, but if we convince her that we haven't stolen anything, then she might let us pass through her realm. Uruki is afraid of her, weapons can't touch her, so they won't follow."

Terry frowned. She wondered who this 'Old One' was tat the orc spoke up, but decided that this path seemed to sound like a better option than the one they had come by. She looked over at Aran and he nodded, showing that he shared her opinion.

Tasar winced at another of the shrill cries from the torture chamber, now positive that it was Harma. She turned to the others. "That way sounds like a better plan. Let us now get Harma, though, and worry about the way out when we get there."

Hoshash went up to the door and began to try and pick the lock open. It was huge and complex, and of course the little orc did not succeed. With a frustrated growl she sat down, leaning her back against the door and sulked.

"By the way, this 'Kveen' you're looking for; what does he look like? He, or she. Or it. Or... whatever, you get the point. Someone important? Must be, or you wouldn't risk all this by coming down here."

Aragorn nodded.

"She is important, Hoshash. She is the leader of the elves. And our friend. We must get her out. And by the sound of it, as fast as we can. Let me try to open the door. In Rivendell, I used to play games with my brothers over who got to open father's bedroom door."

Aragorn got a little piece of metal, that was on the ground, and started opening the door. Soon enough, a crack was heard, and the door opened a little.

"There we go!" smiled Aragorn. "Come, let us free Harma. And on the way, you can tell us about the "Old One". Who is she?"

The small orc got to her feet as Aragorn managed to pick the lock open.

"She is Sharkash, the Old One, very big and very old. Hoshash and some other scouts stumbled across her when we were trying to investigate the cave world. She chased and killed many of us, until she finally got stuck in a tunnel. Hoshash took a pickaxe and hacked her loose, and since nobody else came to help, she says Hoshash knows better than other Uruki what's right and wrong.

Uruki had a deal with her earlier, she let Uruki stay in the outer tunnels if Uruki gave her food and stuff. Uruki chose Hoshash to be the one bringing it all down to her, so Hoshash knows the way, has spoken to her a few times too. She likes to talk about old memories, often telling stories about something called 'First Age' and great battles and stuff."

Hoshash thought for a moment. Then she began talking like she was reciting some old phrase or poem.
"Last time, she also said something about the 'Great Return', that she had 'many sisters and brothers sleeping in the underworld waiting for the Great Return when we shall come forth and rule the surface world and skies once more.'" The fine-mannered speech that Hoshash imitated sounded strange from the little orc's mouth. "She speaks kinda funny," Hoshash added.

The tunnel they had entered discharged into a huge chamber. Along the walls there were bunks, low tables and weapon racks.

"This be one of the storerooms, where the interrogation tools are kept. That door," she said, pointing at a heavy iron door to the left, "leads to the prison. But Hoshash don't know where your Kveen is kept. The prison is not big, but there might be guards." She went over to one of the weapon racks and picked two evil-looking daggers with jagged blades, putting them into her belt on either side of her body.

Tasar pulled her double sided blade from her sheath and twirled it absently in her hand, staring at the door. Her fingers on her left hand twitched with energy, and her eyes were blazing with a light that only meant trouble for those who might get in her way. "A few Uruki guards will not bother us now."

Terry grinned at Tasar's obvious eagerness and wielded her own pair of daggers, holding each in a hand, comfortable with the weight as she prepared herself for trouble. She glanced over at Aran, who had also armed himself with his sword, his eyes holding the same type of light as Tasar's but not to as strong a degree. Terry associated this light with the Elves, for it showed their life and their energy they seemed to be constantly buzzing with. She too, then, turned to the door, and glanced over at Aragorn.

"Perhaps you can pick this lock also, my lord?"

Aragorn stucked the little metal piece in the door, and started turning it. Again, a crack was heard, and Aragorn knew he managed to open the prison door.

"Come, the way is open." he said, and drew Anduril, which was glowing in the dark.

Legolas stood a little behind, with his bow in his hand, ready to fire. His eyes weren't glowing like Tasar and Aran's, because he was pale with grief. Those sounds of agony tormented him still, and even his hands were trambeling.

Aragorn opened the door wide, ready to face whatever might be waiting for them.

Hoshash patted Legolas' knee.

"Tark don't need worry, we'll find your Kveen." Then she noticed this particular tark had pointed ears, and she shyed away a bit, glancing now and again at him with curiosity and a bit fear.

The Uruks who had been standing guard at the door fell over in surprise, staring at the door which had almost been ripped off its rusty hinges as Aragorn pulled it open. Their leader turned from whatever he was doing at the torture device behind him to face the intruders. Then he caught sight of Hoshash, who was peeking out from behind the door.

"You..." he hissed. " I knew I couldn't trust deserters. Traitor!"

"Depends on the point of view," Hoshash retorted and stuck her tongue out at him. "Eat tarki steel, Bagshatigâtar!"

If it had been possible, the Uruk captain would probably have turned white from shock. As it was, he simply stared. Then his face wrinkled in fury and he bared his sharp, yellow fangs. "Kill them. Kill them all!!" And they charged.

Tasar deliberately kept her eyes from straying towards the torture device, not wanting to see her friend in such a state. Instead, she deflected the other Uruks who came at her, not killing them. She strode straight towards the leader, her eyes set on him. She bared her teeth and growled.

Aran watched in amazement as Tasar approached the Captain, and he seemed to shrink away from her in fear for a moment. He could watch no longer, however, because two Uruks charged at him.

Terry easily fought with an Uruk, who, while he was twice her size and probably possessed a bit more strength than she, seemed to be a bit afraid of her.

Tasar pointed her sword directly at the Captain, her eyes burning brighter. "You are mine."

Aragorn fought with two orcs who came his way. Although they were very big, they didn't know how to fight.

Legolas tried to fire an arrow, but his hands shook so badly, that he hit the wall. The sight of the torture device hit him with full blast.

Not knowing what he was doing, he made his way towards the device. It seemed that no orc charged at him.

Arriving there, he saw Harma on the table, unconcious, blood dripping from her body. His eyes widened in fear, and he couldn't move nor speak.

Hoshash charged into the crowd with an orcish battle cry. She fought violently with both blades and fists, legs and teeth, kicking, biting, slashing, punching and hacking. In her movements there was no finesse, none of the skill or experience with which others fought, only bloodthirst and the sheer will to survive. Her eyes, which had earlier had a dull blue, was now glowing in the same colour.

She hacked away on another uruk soldier as he fell to the ground. After spitting on the body she searched it for valuables, and then let the others finish the last ones off while keeping watch over the other entrance in case the noise had been detected. If they were lucky, the other uruks would think the sound came from some of their own kind and would not investigate the matter.

Tasar, after all of the Uruk guards had been defeated, quickly moved over to the device. She did not allow her eyes to remain on her friend for too long, lest she take in full account of her wounds and be distracted. She made quick work of the straps and cuffs attaching Harma to the machine and took her own cloak off, spreading it over Harma's body before turning to Aran. She knew that she could not carry Harma in this state, and she knew that Legolas could not either.

Aran strapped his bow to his back and picked Harma up gently, frowning as she made no sound or movement. He could feel the thrum of her life force within her, but it was very weak. He was worried, so he turned to Tasar, his eyes questioning.

Terry walked up next to him, nursing a cut arm. She placed a hand on Harma's forehead and her eyes widened in alarm. She looked up at Tasar also. "She has gone cold," she whispered.

Tasar's eyes widened as well. "We must get her out of here as fast as possible. I can do nothing in this environment."

Aragorn, hearing their discussion, immediately knew what to do.

"Hoshash, you must lead them to the exit and fast. Me and Legolas will make sure no other uruks come this way. We will catch up with you. Go!"

Legolas was still stunned and shaking. He also heard what Terry said, and could not bear it. "Please," he said in his mind, trying to reach Harma's thoughts "do not leave me. Harma, hold on, we will get you out of here."

Aragorn placed an arm on his shoulder. "Mellon nin, do not worry. She will be alright."

And then, he waited to see if any orcs came to investigate the noise.

(((Sorry for taking so long to respond)))

Hoshash nodded, grabbed a torch from the wall and began leading the way out. When they reached the natural caves again, she rubbed the torch against a thick stalagmite protruding from the cave floor.

"Hoshash's gonna mark the way so tarki krîtar and the pointy-ear can know which way we takes. Y'think your friends'll notice this?" she asked Terry and Aran, pointing at the soot mark.

Aran nodded. "Most definitely." He held Harma gently in his arms, cradling her against his chest, trying to ignore the worried looks Tasar kept giving her. He finally turned to her and whispered, "If you worry so much, why do you not carry her?"

Tasar sighed. "I would drop her. I am sorry for worrying you Aran. But... I do worry." She took Harma's hand and immediately let it go. "She feels like ice. Hold her closer, Aran."

Terry merely listened to the exchange, keeping her emotions under control.

Three orcs came to see what happened, indeed.

Aragorn immediately slaughtered two of them, but the third ran away.

"Catch him, Legolas." yelled Aragorn, knowing that the orc will raise the alarm.

The elf tried to catch him, but the orc already exited the prison. It would have been too risky to follow him.

The elf returned. "Aragorn, we have got to get out of here, and fast. I couldn't catch him, he will warn the other orcs. Come."

Aragorn sighed, but followed his friend. "Let's hope that only the orcs from the lower levels follow us, because if the orcs from the cave entrance find out about us, we have no way out. And fight isn't a good choice, because Harma needs to be taken to the castle fast."

They kept running, hoping to catch up with the others, before they reached the exit.

Hoshash moved on, hurrying down through the huge cavern. They crossed the chasm bridge again, then the small orc turned away from the dusty path, walking up towards the huge spider webs that covered one of the far walls. Using the torch, she set the webs on fire and revealed a tunnel in the stone, just big enough for a human to move through, if he or she huddled a bit.

"Quickly, through here! It's not far," Hoshash said quietly. She rubbed some soot on the webcovered wall to mark the path, then they went into the tunnel.

Reaching the other side was like entering another world. They had now reached an area similar to the one they had seen when they first entered the cave world, with water dripping everywhere, there was even a small waterfall gushing out through a hole in the roof. In the far end of the cave was another hole, this time bigger than the gates of Minas Tirith. On the ground there were strange carved markings, like the claw marks of some strange animal. Only they were too big to come from any now living being. Or were they?

"Old One Sharkash lives in there," Hoshash said with a smile, pointing at the hole. As she went silent, a strange sound emanated from the entrance, making the air vibrate around them. It was a metallic sound, almost like when someone pulled a chain across an iron bar, ending with a hiss.

Hoshash shrugged. "Guess she's awake. No use in wasting time," she said, and began to walk down the slope, towards the entrance. "You comin'?"

[Sorry you guys. I went away for a week, and just got back yesterday.]

Aran nodded and followed the orc, glancing around at the noise. He still had Harma cradled against him, one hand against her head, keeping her close to his shoulder.

Tasar frowned at the sound, wondering what exactly a 'Sharkash' was. She turned to Terry, who obviously did not know either. Both followed Aran and Terry spoke, "What is a Sharkash?"

Hoshash turned.

"Sharkash isn't a 'what', she's a 'who'. Sharkash means Old One in uruki's tongue, just like Hoshash means Quiet One. Hoshash don't know exactly what Sharkash is, but she looks like a lizard, only big as a mountain, with all black and shiny scales."

Just inside the cave opening, there was a strange ridge. It stood out from the rurrounding stones, being completely black and glistening, almost like it was covered in oil or the like. Hoshash climbed it to have a look around.

"Hm... maybe Sharkash not at home." Then suddenly, the strange noise was heard again, but this time from within the ridge, which was not shaking from the deep sound. Two slits in the stone opened like eyelids, the almond-shaped eyes behind almost the size of Rohirric shields and glowing with a deep green light. Hoshash slipped and fell down to the ground in front of Aran as the huge wingless dragon lifted its heavy head with a predatory grin. Its teeth almost looked like they were carved out of mother-of-pearl.

Hoshash fell to her knees, stretching her arms out before her and bowing her head in a worshipping pose. "Brosh Sharkash," she exclaimed. "We didn't really mean t'disturb you, but uruki were chasing us and we had nowhere else to go."

Aragorn and Legolas ran until they reached the enormous cave. Fortunately for them, Aragorn spotted the mark left by Hoshash.

Legolas smiled to his friend. "Even after so many years, you still have the skills of a ranger. If you didn't see this, we would have been doomed. But why have they gone this way?"

"Maybe this is the way to that creature..The Old One, whatever she is. Come now, let's move on!".

They made their way through the dark path, until they saw the others.

"Hey, over here!" they yelled, running to reach them. But when they arrieved, they saw the dragon eyes high above the ground and stopped bewildered.

"She meant a dragon?! We are going to be helped by a dragon?" whisperd Legolas, who knew how much trouble dragons were, and especially that they weren't too friendly.

"You must be joking!" answered Aragorn, preparing psihicaly for a battle with a creature that was a hundred times bigger that him.

Terry gulped and visibly shrunk back. Tasar placed a comforting hand on her shoulder and clasped the hilt of her sword in the other hand. She glanced over at Aran and he held Harma closer, as if protecting her.

Tasar looked over at the others, paricularly Hoshash. "Can we just pass through?"

Legolas kept throwing nervous glances to Aran, and especially Harma. When it came to his love, he didn't trust anyone. What if Aran wasn't careful and Harma got wounded? In her state, any wound could have been a lethal one.

Aragorn answered mentally to Tasar's question, although he wasn't the one adressed to: "We can't pass. This is the end. Orcs behind and a dragon in front...nice..."
