Ooc - Can I just point out that it's DENOTHER and not Denethor. I know they're similar but one's an odd Ranger and the other's the Steward of Gondor.

Ic - "Open your eyes Denother of Gondor."
Den whimpered slightly but knew that if he let his fear conquer him then it would have him for life. And here was someone who was trying to help him, who was he to refuse?
Slowly, tentatively, Den raised his head from its spot at Aireleniel's neck and opened his eyes.
The first thing he saw was Aireleniel's smiling face and kind eyes looking back at his fear stricken features. He looked deep into here eyes for a second, taking strength from what he found there and then glanced past the wing of their mount.
What he saw took his breath away. Middle Earth stretched out below him, the fields, towns, cities and whole countries arrayed like so many patches on a quilt.
"Oh," He breathed, "It's beautiful."
All too soon the Eagles touched down in a grassy plain before the Golden Wood. Den slid off his Eagle and held up his hand to aid Aireleniel.

Elwyn slid of Gwaihir's back and took a step forward. She looked silently to Celebûrion and shook her head, a grin across her face. "I don't believe I have ever seen someone so glad to be on the ground..." she laughed softly and slapped him softly on the back, "it is safe to breathe.."
They turned to look up into the sky. The other eagles were decending softly, allowing those that rode on their backs to dismount...

(Sorry that its been so long seens I last posted I've had a couple of distractions.)

Anarion rode the Eagles back like he might his horse and watcthed the land bellow them change all of the time until he saw the Golden Wood and he prepared to get off before the Eagle landed he jumped off of ite back and said to the Eagle" Thank you my friend I enjoyed the ride greatly." Anarion was using the language of the birds to talk to the Eagle and then he turned around and walked over to Den and Aireleniel and said "May I see Faeril please?" As Aireleniel handed him Faeril Anarions face turned white he looked around and then handed Faeril back to Aierleniel and said "I am going to get a swift escort from Loriean I have been here many times before and they know me well. That flite did more hare for the chilled than good." He ran over to Elwyn and said to her "I will see you later Elwyn and we shall discuss anything you wish, and talk about giving you anything you want. No matter what that may be." Anarion enfasied the word anything letting her know there was a unspoken anyone in what he had said and then he ran off into the woods to get the escort for himself and his companions.

(Sorry had to keep it going)

The company made camp on the borders of the forest while they waited for Anarion to return with an escort. A tent was made for the child to try and keep him out of the cold. Several hours had passed and there was no sign of Anarion. Aireleniel couldn't bear to see the small baby shaking with fever and coughing. She got up and looked deep into the forest, tears in her eyes. (Wow my character cries alot)

"I am Aireleniel of Rivendell. My company and I bring a sick infant to Lothlorien in hopes that the Lady Galadriel may help heal him." No sound emerged from the forest.

"Please. I can sense your eyes, my lady and those of your sentries. I beg you. Help this child of Gondor. He is the last hope of his family. He is my greatest joy." A shadow emerged from the forest.

"Welcome. We ask that only you Aireleniel of Rivendell and the child enter. The others will wait until nightfall when others will come to fetch them and lead them into the city." Aireleniel quickly gathered some supplies and picked up the small bundle. She was led away by the elf and disappeared moments later. (You guys can decide when to follow)

The came upon the gate of the city. Inside many Mallorn grew and atop them there were many Flets that were inhabited by elves. Aireleniel was led to the tallest Mallorn, that of the Lord and Lady, and there she was parted from the child.

"You must wait here. When the others come then you shall see the child again and the Lord ad Lady shall give you a proper welcome. Be patient"

Anarion walked up to Aireleniel whenever the child had been taken and said to her " The others will come soon. The Elves know where they are at and will fetch them. They wanted me to stay here so when you got here there would be somebody here with you that you already knew. The child will be safe with them so dont worry." Anarion looked at Aireleniel and thought to himself ' This is one of the most brave and powerful wemon that I have ever met. She inspiers me greatly.

As the Dark haired elf led Aireleniel away into the Forest Denother stood and made to follow but he paused at the feel of Celeburion's hand on his shoulder.
"Stay." The word was counsel, not command, "Honour the promise Aireleniel made for all of us and Faeril will be well. We shall see them both again soon enough."
Den sighed in frustration and defeat, "Aye Celeburion. You are right, as always." He slumped to sit atop a tree stump, "But I just feel so damn helpless sat here and goodness only knows what going on in there!" He gestured to the forest.
"The Lord and Lady of the Wood only want the best for Faeril." The wise Elf admonished gently.
"I know." Den sighed, "What I said came out wrong, it's not what I meant. But I still wish we were there with her."
The sun seemed to take its own sweet time in dropping below the horizon in a blaze of blood red light but slowly darkness descended over the peacful wood and the anxious company sat at its borders.
Suddenly a lithe form, seeming to glow from within, stepped out of the shadows and adressed the company.
"Suilaid." The Elf's voice was soft and musical, "My name is Tregallien Dreamguard. I have been sent by Lady Galadriel to take you to the city of Lothlorien where you shall be reunited with those of your party already there." At a gesture many other Elves, also in the soft grey garb of Lorien's Archers, stepped from the treeline and began to blindfold the travellers before gently guiding them through the maze of paths and tree trunks to the heart of the Forest.

When Aireleniel had left with the child, Celebûrion did his best to calm Den, hiding his own nervousness. He wanted to stay close to the sick child, althought he knew well that he had done everything that was in his power. Maybe he would be able, given more time and experience, to gather enough skill as a healer to defeat such an illness, but as it was he had spend to much time as a young Elf in the smithies of his father. He was probably still a better smith then healer.
As Den sat down on a tree trunk a smile came to Celebûrion's lips. Den was surely as worried about the wellbeing of Aireleniel as about that of Faeril.
For the next few hours Celebûrion paced slowly up and down, gazing into the line of trees constantly. Not much was spoken while the group sat and waited, and finally when the darkness of night had descended upon them, a Lorien Elf stepped out of the trees and bade them welcome.
The Elven archers that led them towards the heart of the forrest, led them carefully to that nothing happened on their way. Finally the cloth was taken from thair faces and they beheld the mystical beauty of the proud city of Caras Galadhon. Although Celebûrion had never been here before and everyting was very different from what he knew, he very mouch felt at ease here, as if he had come home.
They were led on until they met Aireleniel and Anarion. They had only just the chance to hear that the child had been brought up to the Lord and Lady, when another Elf appeared and led them up to meet the Lord Celeborn and the Lday Galadriel. Remembering his last encounter with the wise Lady, Celebûrion swallowed, nervousness rising within him once more.

Elwyn smiled as Galadriel and Celeborne stood before them. Her gaze shifted to Den and Celebûrion, their nervousness was written across their faces.
Galadriel looked to each of them, stark and ethereal. Her beauty was ageless and untouched. It had been long since Elwyn had last visited Lothlorien, and then she had been in the company of Arwen, and the twin sons of Elrond.
Elwyn stepped closer to Den and Celebûrion...looking to them with anxiousness..

The tight knot in Den's chest had eased much on seeing Aireleniel and hearing that Faeril was with Lady Galadriel and Lord Celeborn, better hands were nowhere to be found upon Middle Earth. Thus, upon meeting with the fabled LAdy of the Wood the young ranger found himself able to form enough of a sentence to express the gratitude he was sure the rest of the group shared with him.
"My Lady." He bowed low, his right fist over his heart, "I am sure I speak for all of this group when I say thankyou. The child Faeril has come to mean a lot to us over the short time we have travelled with him and it would have been a great blow were he to die."
A slight smile twitched at the corners of Lady Galadriel's mouth, "This group Ranger? Surely 'my' group? And does not the child hold the key to powerful political ructions in your homeland?"
Den felt the blood rush to his rugged face as he struggled against his embarrasment to find words, "My Lady. This group is no more mine than the company of Archers that brought us here. I merely find myself travelling in their direction for a while. And as for Faeril, I make it a point not to pay attention to politics, at least insofar as it is only jostling for position among discontented nobles. I merely wish to reunite an orphan with his Grandfather." He stayed where he was, head up, hoping agaisnt hope that no one would take offense at his tone. In hindsight he may have been a trifle sharp.

The Lady graced Den with another soft smile. Knowing maybe but that was only Celebûrion's impression. Next the Lady's eyes came to rest on him, and he did his best to withstand the urge to lower his eyes. There had been a time when he had stared into those eyes with anger and jealousy, yelling at the wise and graceful Lady like a pampered child. That was probably all he had been then, on their last encounter, and the mere thought of it shamed him deeply and made him blush. But he kept his eyes locked on hers neverhteless.
When she spoke, the slightest hint of a smile graced her beautiful face, but her eyes remained earnest and piercing. "You have changed much Celebûrion, son of Celebrimbor, since our last encounter. Beware of the darkness in your soul, but take courage that you can conquer it."
Celebûrion remained motionless and replied nothing to the Lady. Relieved when her eyes traveled on, he let out his breath and lowered his eyes to the ground.

"Elwyn of Rivendell..." Galadriel spoke softly, her eyes resting now in the gaze of Elwyns. "Long has it been since you have stood within my presence, yet you still carry the doubts you did years before. Know this, child of Vardilme you will never escape your past...all you must do is come to terms with it. Once you relaize that it has made you who you are, you will be at peace..." Elwyn smiled, as best she could. Her eyes teared slightly as Galadriel spoke. As the Lady turned from her, she finally found it within herself to wipe her eyes.

Anarion heald his breath as Galadriels eyes came to rest on him. Anarion had not seen her for many years and wondered if he had changed any, he didn't fell like he had changed at all.

"Anarion son of Arathorn, General of Mirkwood, and Hearld of the Valar. You still cary your shadows of the past on your back. It has been has been many years know that you have carried these burdins and still you hold them. Drop your burdins rest your mind and for once look to your future. Not to a past that can not be changed in any way."

As Galadriels eyes left him he let out his breath and took a new one beginning to breath regularlly once again.

Galadriel's eyes finally fell upon Aireleniel. Her eyes were vast, piercing, unyielding, and wise.

*"And you Aireleniel, have wandered many years upon Middle-Earth alone and now you have found someone upon whom to bestow all the love in your heart. This person, however, is a child. A child with a family of his own. You say that you can bear to part with him when the time comes, but your heart knows it is not true. Be careful Aireleniel of Lindon for when a person is torn from one they love, they are driven to do dangerous things."*

"This I know and I accept. I thanks both the Lord and Lady for receiving us in your home and I hate to be so hasty, but what of the child? Is he well?"

The lady walked away and returned shortly with a small squirming bundle. She handed the baby to Aireleniel and the company gathered around her to look upon the tiny bundle. The fever was completely gone. The sparkle returned to his azure eyes and the color flushed back to his cheeks. His innocent smile meant he was really ok.

"I thanks you Lady of Light. I have heard of your power and know I see what wonders you can perform. I thank you, Ná Elbereth veria le, ná elenath dín síla erin rád o chuil lín. (May Elbereth protect you, may her stars shine on the path of your life.)"

"I thank you for your blessing. Go and eat. Be at peace for no danger shall come to you here."

The company walked down the long stairs and were led to a small area that had been prepared for them with food and drink. The sat and ate quietly and once the table was cleared, they took council.

"Where do we go from here? I no longer think the path we originally chose is the safest. The child may fall ill once again and there are no more Elf realms so far to the east."

Throughout the meal Den kept catching himself moving closer to Aireleniel and seemed to spend the whole time they were sat beside each other blushing. Thus he welcomed her business like question as it allowed him to turn his mind to other things.
"Well, we're in Lorien and we need to be in Gondor." He placed two salt cellars about four foot apart on the table. "There's always the Anduin." He traced a reasonably straight path between the two points, "Quick and safe, until we get to Rauros Falls when life could become a little difficult."

"It would surely be faster then traveling by foot." Celebûrion agreed. Not that he was very keen on trying yet another means of transportation again, but boats were really not that bad. After all he loved rivers, and going out for a swim was about all he did to keep fit.
"The falls might present a problem though. Is there any way around them as to allow us to continue our way by boat after them?" Celebûrion knew of course the geography of Middle Earth- but most of only from maps. The maps from the library of Rivendell were naturally of the highest quality, but never detailed enough, as he had learned already during this quest. So he continued eating while listening to the opinions of the others.

(Ok well I need to set a time for this story, just so my post will make sense. It's in the Third Age, before the War of the Ring. Maybe a little bit before the Istari came to Middle-Earth.. I think that was around 1000 T.A.)

"The Falls can be bypassed using the North Stair. This Portage was carved into the cliffs early in the Third Age at the command of the Kings of Gondor. We can easily carry the boats and then we can decide whether to continue down the Anduin until we get off at Osgiliath or journey by foot. Gailiel, you seem troubled. What's wrong?"

"I cannot travel with you anymore. I fear for my father's life and the welcome that young Faeril in Gondor. You are great in number and so many people mean that we shall go slow. I have to go to Gondor immediately. I shall go by horse and hopefully beat you to Gondor. The Lady has consented, but she says that I must go with you as far as the Rauros, from there our paths will part."

"Well let us save the farewells for when the time comes. Now excuse me. The child is sleepy and needs his rest." She got up and walked to where their beds had been made. They were upon the floor, for the grass was soft and welcoming. She placed the baby carefully upon the bed. A young elf maiden came and sat next to her.

" Go and take a walk. I shall look after the child. You are tired and anxious. A good walk shall cure your body and mind. Go. Take all the time you need."

Aireleniel nodded and did as she was told.

Celebûrion nodded. What Aireleniel said seemed to make sense, and as he himself did not posess much traveling experience, he kept out of the discussion.
He did not know why, but the news that Gailiel would be leaving their company at the falls of Rauros made Celebûrion feel uneasy. He could understand her reasons naturally, but something in him did not like the thought at all.
He sighed and turned around staring at the trees around. After a few moments his thought drifted away and he sat in awe of the beauty of the forrest. Everything here seemed extremely peaceful. A few Elves could be heard singing in the trees above and soon Celebûrion supplemented their melody with a sweet song he remembered from his own childhood.

Ooc - Yay! It lives! I'm afraid that I am rather ill today so this will not be a great feat of literature.

Ic - Den leant back against the smooth bark of the huge mallorn tree the group resided beneath and closed his eyes.
It was a pity that Gailiel was leaving, she was good with a sword and strategy, but the young Ranger had to be pratical and she had to go and sort out as much of the family politics as she could.
Slowly Den became aware of a voice, close to him, singing in the sweetest Tenor he had ever heard a song that, even though he could not understand it brought to mind images of the happy days of his youth. Openeing his bright green eyes he focused on Celeburion.
"That's beautiful." He offerd quietly when the Elf reached a break between verses, "What does it mean?"

The soft voice of Den pulled Celebûrion back to the present. Turning slightly to face the man he smiled. "It describes the beauty of Eregion before it's fall. It was a wonderful. I have never seen such majestic beauty, the combination of the skills of Elves and Dwarves again." For a moment he fell silent and stared into the trees again, remembering Eregion in all it's glory, then sighed and continued. "The song tells about the atmosphere there when the realm was founded. It was full of creativity and enthusiasm... My father taught me this song when I was still a child." He looked up into Den eyes once more. "Where did you grow up?"

Den sighed and his expression became distant.
"I was born and raised in a little Ranger Station in Ithillien. It wasn't a strategic point so quite often it was only my older Brother and I, our parents and 'Uncle' Hama." He smiled and gave a wry laugh, "The old story, wonderful days split apart too soon." He fell silent for a second, unwilling to reveal the various scandels associated with his family name. Wanting to breach a subject that was unlikely to bring up bad memories for either of them the young Ranger sat himself up and looked at Celeburion, "Do you play an instrument? It's just that I'd love to learn and say I can do something my brother can't."

Celebûrion could feel the ranger's discomfort when the conversation turned to his past, and the man seemed unwilling to talk about his family. Celebûrion did not press the matter further, and when Den changed the subject a warm smile came to his face. "Indeed, I do play an instrument. More then one to be precise, but on this quest the only one I carry with me is this." And he pulled a small wooden flute from his pocket. Setting it to his lips he closed his eyes and after a small moment feeling into the music that still drifted down to them from the trees above he blended the high sound of his instrument into the melody.
Soon he opened his eyes again and smiled at Den. Handing he flute over he gave the ranger some basic instructions, then added "The rest will be a matter of practice. I usually listened to the rivers and trees and fitted my melodies to their song. Keep it and you will learn in time."

Aireleniel had been aimlessly wandering the paths of Lothlorien for some time. She had stepped outside the walls of the city and was began to travel north. Up in a Mallorn she saw a shadow. It was alone in a flet. It could only be a Lorien march warden. He was looking away to the Northwest. His posture revealed that he was worried about something. Aireleniel climbed the tree carefully and quietly so as not to alarm the guard. She failed. Her hand slipped and she was about to fall when a hand caught her own and she was pulled to safety.

"Oh my goodness. Thanks you. I am Aireleniel. I am a visitor from Rivendell, and you?"

"I am Haldir. I know of you and your company, but what are you doing out of the city so late?"

"I was told to take a walk to help me relax. I Din't know I'd headed so far north." She stood up slowly and went to the edge of the flet. "What exactly are you worried about? Even from down there I could tell something was on your mind."

Haldir pointed away further north. "Those fires have been burning for some time. They are the ones the Rohirrim call the Wild Men. He have heard reports from Rivendell that the Wild Men crossed the Misty Mountains a few days ago. This is just a small part of their force, the rest is still on the other side of the mountain, but it won't be long until they cross."

"But how did they cross? The only way to come over those mountains is thorough the Dimrill Stair."

"They used the tunnels of the Orcs. They have formed an allegiance for some unknown reason."

"They have come together to kill the baby. The Wild Men on the other side were chasing us. Their leader wants to kill Faeril. We have to leave now. We have to leave Lothlorien before the rest of the company comes across the mountains. I have to go back and tell my company what I have seen."

"Wait. I'll accompany you back."

Haldir and Aireleniel returned to the city. First they went and spoke to the Lord and Lady and requested boats. They consented and they sent for all the preparations to be made. Haldir and Aireleniel went in search of the others. They found Celeburion and Den playing music together. Aireleniel turned to Haldir.

"I'll go and tell the others and get the baby ready. You explain the situation to them. Thank you Haldir." She ran past Celeburion and Den who were both confused.

"Come. We have to get some food, water, boats, and whatever supplies you may need." Haldir told them both what he and Aireleniel had seen as they got all the supplies they need. They headed back to the company's camp where Aireleniel had already woken the others and explained what she had seen. Haldir headed towards Aireleniel.

"Everything has been set. The boats are already waiting. They are laden with food, water, cloaks, blankets, and anything else you might need." The elf maiden who had previously offered to look after the baby came up to Aireleniel and handed her the baby. Faeril was wide awake. He managed a few hours of sleep. In a few minutes the company was packed and ready to go. Haldir carried Aireleniel's pack and weapons to the boats. The Lord and Lady where waiting for them.

"Farewell. May you always be in the Valar's good graces. Be careful, for it is a dangerous road to Gondor filled with many obstacles and treachery. Namarie. May Elbereth stars shine down upon you."

Haldir gently caressed Aireleniel's cheek before she stepped in the boat. "Farewell Aireleniel of Rivendell. Come back to visit when your journey is over. A long stay in Lothlorien would do you some good."

"Thank you. I promise you I will return."

She stepped into the boat, settled in, and then Den, who was also in the same boat, pushed off the shore. They began their journey down the small river until they finally met the Anduin and they began traveling down its waters. Time passed slowly. Night turned to day and the company halted to take council once more.

"So what are we to do when we get to the Rauros? Do we go to Rohan and travel on foot or continue down the river?"

"Keep it and you will learn in time."
Den looked in something passing for awe at the simple pipe in his hands, "Do you really mean that?" Celeburion nodded, "Thankyou." The young Ranger breathed, "You do realise that I'll be driving you all mad now with inept practice?"
The two laughed quietly when suddenly Aireleniel appeared in the clearing with a male Elf, unknown to Celeburion and Den. They conversed for a moment then Aireleniel shot off somewhere and the elf came up to the companions.
"Suilaid. I am Haldir and I bear an urgent message from Aireleniel. We have to get some food, water, boats, and whatever supplies you may need."
Den swore under his breath as Haldir explained the reality of the situation creeping up on them.
"I thought we left the bast... Wild Men, behind. This thing takes on a whole new urgency now. I just hope we can go faster than they can."
The men organised the boats and sufficient supplies, easy to carry, to take them to Minas Tirith.
As they set off Den noticed Haldir stoke his hand down Aireleniel's face in a way he felt an inexplicable pang of jealousy at. His face was dark as he puched their small craft out into the river's flow and waved goodbye to their benefactors.
That night the group sat around a small fire eating the dried fruit rations given to them by the Elves.
"So what are we to do when we get to the Rauros? Do we go to Rohan and travel on foot or continue down the river?"
"Well," Den sat back comfortably, "We'll get there quicker if we sort out Rauros then carry on down the Anduin. It flows practically past the Whit City's walls and that is just what we need. I think we should be able to carry the boats down the falls, there must be paths around the cliffs but I din't know that for sure or how much time it will add to our journey. I can only suggest that we get there and see."

"You forget our enemies in the White City. The river will probably be watched. We will be easily seen and killed. Perhaps there is another way. Gailiel will set of to Rohan in a few days, maybe we should follow along."

"No, the only reason I'm leaving the company is because I want to get into Gondor unnoticed. Our group is big and noticeable."

"We can go with you at least to Rohan, and then you can leave us behind. We will go at a normal pace from there. Perhaps we can get help from the king. What do the rest of you think?"

Ooc - *Looks frantically at her map*

Ic - "I really think that we should be going nowhere near Rohan. It's not on the way. If we follow the river, or at least stay near it then we will get there without having to go near Rohan and without adding weeks to our journey. And if you want to get help from King Thranduil then you can kiss goodbye to getting to Minas Tirith before Yule!"
