Almost forgot, welcome Magoleth! I'm fairly new here but feel as if I've know the fellow FOF group much longer, it is a wonderful and friendly place to come together. Great to have you here.

Welcome and wellmet, Magoleth! Come in and make yourself at home. As you can tell by reading HT's wonderful poem, we respect our differences and celebrate our mutual love for all things Tolkien. It is a strong bond.

I was thinking of how we visualize each other. I guess that for now, I "read" each of you by your posts and by your sig. I have found that the more I am around folk, the more I learn to "see" what kind of person they are on the inside and not just the package on the outside. Already you are beautiful to me.

LOL Mith! Thar Levitra story was priceless! Hope you don't mind if I share that one.

As for suggestions for "re-attachment" for the troll, swabby, I have none. When I taught in a low-income rural school, several of us teachers thought that some of the mothers of numerous children (who couldn't/wouldn't care for them as they should) should take a stapler and make it where nothing could get in or out...if you get my meaning.

I took myself to a local bookstore/coffee shop for an iced coffee this afternoon after school. I did this to celebrate Viggo's birthday. (Also picked up a new pair of cute shoes that he would LOVE to see me in).
Tommorow is dress up day at school. I haven't found my official Aragorn costume, but I may be able to pull something together at the last minute. I'll have someone take pics, swabby and send them to you. I WILL take my sword (the plastic Andruil that makes sounds) to school. You may read about me in the paper:" Kindergarten teacher arrested for bringing sword to school! Says she was going to teach those children a lesson!!!"

Have a great Friday!!

Hi  Magoleth I am so glad to meet you. I am 53 nice to see some 50's in here.
Lady A I see them as pictures of people. I knew what some looked like from the gallery and others I had seen their picture and they looked like I imagined.
It was a rainy day here in Southeast Mo. I was glad we needed it.
By the way it is 7:30pm here what time is it where you live

Hi all. Interesting discussion happening about families. As a therapist, I have seen first-hand the kind of long-termdamage that bad parenting can do to kids. And I don;t mean just obvious violence or sexual abuse. There are a lot of hurting people out there who have had their sense of confidence and goodness undermined by the head-games of people who wouldn't qualify for a dog license, let alone the right to parent.

So I was almost over-sensitive about potential mistakes when hubby and I were raising our three sons. I did learn that little mistakes (like being human and cranky and not perfectly loving at all moments) don't undermine the real lessons of love, acceptance and bcoming yourself while being a responsible and loving citizen.

Scott Peck wrote about a defnition of evil - actions that prevent people from becoming their best their best selves, from becoming truly alive (I'm paraphrasing big-time). So, anyone who just uses others to meet their own needs (to feel powerful by abusing others; to gain social status and power by forcing kids into some mold of parental choosing - these are ways of preventing children from becoming their best selves. That's what hurts kids.

Most parents don't do that, I think.

Anyway, this is turning into an essay. I'll stop now.

“Some believe it is only great power that can hold evil in check. But that is not what I have found. I have found that it is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindness and love. " Gandalf

Tolkien and religious reaction Oh yeah, forgot about that one.

I wonder if the religious right (which has the most need to control people's reading and perceptions) was as active in England then as it is now in the US. It's the fundamentalists who seem to get most wound up about anything hinting at "sorcery".

The Catholic Church went nuts about it in the Middle Ages but has been less focussed in that area more recently (it was too busy suppressing sexuality and women). Although it has been pretty right wing (except for a brief period in the 60s), I don't think it was a very powerful in Britain or even in the US.

Mae govannen, Magoleth.

Miththoliel, surely we can learn a bit of Sindarin. I keep starting on the lessons and getting to 5 or so but I do dabble a bit since I include some in my stories and do some for my students. (Avo visto! do not stray; Teitho! write; Avo bedo! be quiet; Daro! stop; and of course, Mae Carnen! well done) They, like canines, recognize short commands.

The Learning Elvish message board is excellent here at COE but they are really experts (Firiel and David Salo and Carl whatever his name is and the like) and sometimes the conversation sails way over the heads of beginners.

We chose not to have children and often get weird looks, but have delightful children of close friends who are our "neices and nephews". Although we have several real ones, we seem closer to these.

A tried and true teacher-ism is that teachers should have children young because if they wait, they will never have them---no names to call them that don't conjure up evil images of former students. I just talked with one colleague who was visiting on maternity leave for her second and she and her husband almost divorced because he was set on naming the child Brian.

Tolkien and religious reaction. There was certainly a lot wrong with the fifties but I think from a historical perspective people were more willing to stay out of each others' business. Religion then seemed a much more personal and community issue than part of a political affiliation. Maybe people were more sure about where good and evil truly lie and weren't looking for demonic messages in fairy tales or song lyrics then. Also, it seems that so many vocally religious people today have a cause---a "crusade?" and don't belong to one of the traditional denominations. I think the Catholics who have been at this for a long time learned long ago that a little bit of magic is good for the soul and a little bit of mysticism helps out the wonder of it all. Though it seems that lately they too have been co-opted by those with a religious political agenda. (Sindarinelvish steps down off her soapbox and strings her bow, looking for hapless orcs.)

On parenting-the biggest problems we see at school are not from those people who try but make parenting mistakes, but from those who reproduce and then let the child raise itself or worse, allow the child to be in charge of the household. The child ends up with no interests, no goals, no sense of place in the world, and no respect for anyone including themselves. It's truly sad.

My poetry contrbution

There once was a Ranger from Fornost
Whose kilt was snagged on a fence post.
He felt a cool breeze
From his waist to his knees,
Deep red was his blush,
Grabbed his cloak in a rush,
As she-teachers raised mugs in a toast!

So many posts! So much wisdom and wit! It must be that big ol' moon.
I love your little risque' poem, sindy. I think I felt A draft as I read it, too.
I agree with most everything that was said today, which is very unusual for me because I tend to be out of step with most of society.
I think there are valid reasons for political correctness, but it can be taken to excess. Before I'd ever even heard the term "political correctness" I realized that "n__ger toe" was not an acceptable word for "Brazil nut", even though it was commonly used where I grew up. Many still use this hurtfull, politically incorrect terminology. nuf said.
I have A visual picture of MT in my mind because she gave me some clues. "A cross between Arwen and Frodo" she said. I picture A short, pretty woman with curly hair. I don't know why, but she's dressed in black leather like Jim Morrison. I picture HT as looking A bit like Annie Lennox, but with more hair. Maybe that's because they're both Scots. I don't have A clue what mith looks like but she thinks I'm funny, so she must be A doll. Of course I know what lovely ladies Belle, Nenyagold and Rose look like because I've seen their pictures. Rose must have A digital camera because sent me A very nice pic of herself that she said had just been taken. (I'm still using the old 35mm SLR that I've had for years)
Greetings and salutations Magoleth! We folks here at FoF may have A bit of snow on our roofs, but we've got hot blazing fires in our furnaces!
Poor Aragorn keeps getting over-exposed. I thought we fellas were the ones who were obsessed with seeing naked body parts, but I do believe you ladies would burn Viggo's britches right off of him with your scortching hot x-ray vision if he ever walked by, cooking his juevos rancheros in the process. Lead underwear, that's what he needs. swabby

"The Breezes that Pleases"

For some it is chocolate, for others it's cheese
Some ladies there be that think not of these.

Through waking or sleeping, one thought fills their minds,
to gaze at one Ranger's naked behind.

His butt, his bum, his two hairy orbs
whatever you call it, their eyes will absorb.

For wardrobe malfunctions these ladies do cheer,
whatever exposes his plump derriere.

Burning like lazers, their eyes strip away
any pieces of clothing that get in their way.

When his domes are deflated from years quite advanced
God willing, the gals will let him wear pants.

"I don't know why, but it makes me feel sad" swabby

Swabby,
Have I ever told you just how much I enjoy your poetry??!! :naughty: It just brings such nice things to mind!! ROFLMSAO!!!!

:disco: There is no school today! It's the end of the quarter, and I spent many, many hours yesterday and into the night getting papers corrected, attendance numbers figured out and report cards done. But at least it's done and I have today off to do as I wish. That wish is working on the kitchen remodel that has been going on f-o-r-e-v-e-r it seems like. Our house was built in 1960, and the kitchen has never been redone. It was not in the budget to take it down to the studs and start over...my personal vote....so paint it is! The prep is what takes the most time. But it's slowly coming along and looking *much* better than before. We're going for an art-deco-y/Middle Earth-y kind of a theme. I hope it works with the flamingos!!! (Those of you who know me a bit better know about my obsession with flamingos. :rolling: )

Well, must go back to the cleaning/prepping/priming work. It's nice to be able to check back here from time to time and not have to look like I'm actually working when I'm with my kids. lol

Again, Swabby, LOVE your poems!

Hi everyone

Loved the new poems and thanks to everyone who commented on mine. I wish I did look like Annie Lennox but I don't. If I am a doll then it is a slightly chubby short one. Re political correctness yes it can go overboard but as Swabby said there are some terms that are not acceptable. Sometimes maintaining a balance between the 2 can be hard. A British commedian used to jole about someone falling down a personhole (manhole) which illustrates pc gone a little OTT. Although we have to be a bit careful because of the regs here at COE we are not exactly pc here are we? esp not with some of the subjects we get into - Ranger's bottoms and troll's ...ahem! BTW anyone heard from Old Tom recently? I haven't seen a post from him in a while so Hi Old Tom if you are about.

Welcome to the club, Magoleth.

Swabby, again.

I have two daughters, 15 and 13 at the moment; I might have three children, but I miscarried one. But, there's quite enough to do with the ones I have; I'm trying to steer the older one through the storms of teenage, and the younger one turned out to be autistic and needs special care and rehabilitation. She's such a happy little Hobbit lass though, has an excellent memory, and is getting more and more independent every day. All I can say of my parenting style is that, it's very different from my mother's - not necessarily better, but different.

I've had an extremely busy week at work - thank goodness it's Friday... :disco:

On political correctness I can see how it seems to become a tyranny of its own. Even a useful thing can become a pain when enforced without patience and common sense. But let's remember that many of us belong to the privileged groups who have not been affronted or oppressed. So we have no idea what it's like to "walk in the moccasins" of those getting the brunt of inapproriate or insensitive language We whine a bit when asked to rephrase.

As for stating "the truth", just because a person holds an opinion strongly and speaks it loudly, we shouldn't confuse that with facts. Some critical thinking comes in handy when looking for "the truth".

Have a great weekend, everyone!

poetry ooooh - getting racy here! How long before the Mods sweep down? Delightfuly funny, though, I must say.

sindarin Oh I admire you folks. i can't manage to devote that much time to it. I have, over the course of a year or two, taught myself to write in Elvish script. Quite enjoy that. it's like a calligraphy, really.

Happy Friday to all!

Love all the poems, going to have to try my hand at some carefree ones, they are so fun to read and laugh. Love reading all the posts, gee it does feel like a family in here!

Got a PM that my photos were too wide, 640 instead of 600 or less Will resubmit the resized ones after this and wait patiently

SE, I've tried to start the lessons, printed out the first few and read them but just didn't seem to be sinking in. So have spent the past many months trying to learn things like short phrases, commonly used things like articles, pronouns & so on, plus (of course) the LOTR movie elvish. It is really helping to make sense and mainly trying to pronounce the words properly. Have also been trying to use short phrases on letters, posts, etc. (Loved your comparison of the kids with the canines!) Anyhow, thought it was time to start the lessons and get a bit more serious. I agree, there is an excellent Elvish Lesson thing here but they are way beyond me as well. I want to keep it fun and interesting, not a chore or a seemingly impossible thing. So anyhow, any ideas on how to "share" our learning? MT, would love to include you in this also

A great weekend to all

OK OK enough of a certain persons nether regions. This may only apply to some of us I grant you but

Not the rear alone
Of Viggo so delights us;
But the noble gaze.

Welcome Magoleth. Since you dropped in you have seen a fair representation of the range of our discussion. Don't let that put you off though

Rose thanks for the links. Interesting, and the quoted reviews I've seen so far confirm that there wasn't a "burn these books" reaction.

On parenting (again) - there was some stuff published recently that said that for boys in particular the key to successfully negotiating the teens is a good relationship with their mothers. So no pressure then.

Thanks for the answers about how you visualise other FoFers. Seems like a mix. I think it's the same phenomenon that allowed me to accept the film characters, as I'd never really visualised the book characters as "pictures of people" , more just a reaction in the mind to seeing a particular name written. Hey there's probably a whole thesis in there somewhere

Going to be away for a few days, I'll look forward to catching up when I'm back. Take care all

Alright ladies, you heard the wise lady "A", it's Viggo's noble gaze that captivates. You've been looking at the wrong end.
Check out that members gallery and see the beautiful flowers and one thorny weed. (me)

And hey, that's right, where the heck is old Tom? Do you think he might have gotten all endorphined up from pumping iron and forgot about us? We haven't seen Balrog or Brandywine in A while either.

Risqué recitations Good job we are over 40 *locks door*. Lol!!

Yes, swabby, I do have a digital camera. It's wonderful, but I miss my 35 mm SLR sooooo much. I sold it years ago when my photography enthusiasm left me.

Great pics of everyone. Thanks for the links Nenya.

I'm sure Tom will be back. Like his namesake, he pops up when needed.

Btw, I watched 'A History of Violence' today, rather cautiously as I had heard it was a very violent film. I have to say, I was very surprised, it's a great film. There is violence but nothing worse than any of the Lethal Weapon films, or other films of today. Viggo was good, it has a good storyline, quite a little thriller and with a bit of a twist.

Take care all.

I'm glad that you enjoyed A History of Violence, Rose. I was begining to worry about myself because I liked it so much. This crazy part of the world I'm living in isn't showing it anymore in theatres. Just have to ask: which "end" did you enjoy seeing the most??

LadyAis right. Viggo's eyes suck my soul right into his. One look, and I'm gone.

Funny poems SE and swabby. You made my day.

As a teacher, I agree with your comments on finding a name for a child that doesn't bring back horrific memories of a former student. I've prayed that my sons never married (or even dated) an Erica, Deanna or Stephanie nor named a child Jeremy, Blake, Jayden,or Donald.

So, I'm a female version of Jim Morrison in black leather, swabby? I do love Jim morrison and his poetic lyrics and sexy voice. I recently bought my first pair of black leather pants, which I plan to wear to the LOTR exhibit in Indianapolis Nov. 12. I'll have pictures taken of us Middle aged crazies as we go crazy in Indy.
I wore some "Aragornish" clothes to school today and strapped my plastic Andruil on my side. The boys were quite taken with it. It "went off", making clanging noises, several times when I tried to teach, so I had to hang it up. No trolls nor orcs showed up for me to show my ability with a sword. Maybe next time.
Loved looking at the pictures. Thanks for the links NenyaGold. As I've said before, each one of you is beautiful.
My pic needs to be resized. Hopefully I can handle that or have my wonderful son help. Why am I wanting others to see me? They can imagine me as being beautiful and perhaps I can let them keep that image a bit longer.

Still working on my picture, too. It was wonderful seeing you all! Hhhmmm, Swabby, sort of Sean Connery-ish from Red October....must be all that sea air.

Yes, we have been making sport of Viggo's nether parts (excuse the pun) but it is the eyes...has an Aragorn moment.

Mith I think learning the phrases is very useful, sort of like the French-Spanish-German phrase book that is so helpful on European trips---gets you a drink of water and the bathroom....is there a Sindarin word for bathroom? Could be useful.

Scots56, I envy you! Next week is our last week of the quarter and I have a bagful of the orklets' papers in the car (no, they haven't made it into the house yet). The DH is going off on the three hour trek on Sunday to visit his mother in the nursing home so I will be holed up grading all day.

Speaking of student names, my 8th grade mirror image got a new student today whose name is Ty'Ree...we're pretty sure the mark is an apostrophe and not an accent...we're not sure what letters have been left out???? See, there is absolutely no reason why anyone should hesitate naming their child an Elvish name...Anariel, Gwilwileth, Elvellon would be absolutely acceptable names.

Braving the damp and cold here...

Wow, my verbal acuity pales in comparison to that of old Tom. Would it be too much of A cliche' to say "silver-tongued"?
Silver? Nay, it has more of a pinkish tint.

And hey, that's right, where the heck is old Tom? Do you think he might have gotten all endorphined up from pumping iron and forgot about us?
I'm Old Tom, and I'm here to *clap* pump you up!

Yeah, I've been working out for 3 weeks now and definitely feel some positive changes happening. I'm also experienceing some sore muscles on a daily basis. Yesterday it was my quadriceps (front of thigh), today it's my hamstrings (back of thigh). I've also adjusted my schedule so I go to bed at 10 or 10:30 PM and get up at 5 or 5:30 AM so I can workout before I go to work. (Before it was 12 and 7, respectively).

I'm sure Tom will be back. Like his namesake, he pops up when needed.
I do indeed!

I've been very busy lately, and haven't stopped by in a few days. I'm scrambling to get caught up on all these posts!

It is nice to be missed.

My photo images got nixed. I'm told they were wider than 600 pixels. I would have swore I made them the right size. Perhaps the kb size was too big? Oh well, I'll try it again when I have some time, but for now it's off to bed.

G'night!

Hi Tom. Again, I knew you wouldn't disappoint.

Re: A History of Violence. Not sure quite which 'end' you are referring to. But I enjoyed the ending ending. Another thing was as I listened to the soundtrack, I thought, 'hmmm, familiar sounding style of music', not realising that it was Howard Shore's score.

Well, it's Saturday, so off to do some shopping.

wow, Old Tom, you are busy! I admire your self discipline in rising early and staying up late to get your works out to fit in your daily routine. My business gets in the way of my exercise routine and so it suffers. I'm sure that the soreness will go away soon and you'll be stronger, leaner and healthier.
I've had a Ty'ree before SE. Hopefully he's not the same as the one you have, as he would be 21 years old now. I think elvish names are wonderful, but I have a hard time with some kindergarten children having to write long names. For some reason, those are the same kids who've never held a pencil or don't know any letters. So far, Arumonde writes Arm for his name on his paperwork. You'd think that adding the o wouldn't be too taxng.
I'm off to walk the streets and get some exercise. Thanks for the inspiration, Old Tom. Perhaps I'll go to the beach and walk there. Oh how I'd love to sail off into the west...at least for a week or two.

Rose, you were right, old Tom has come back to us, sore muscles and all. He must have gotten that itchy nose thing when I was talking about him, but then again, the allergens are high right now.

I never thought any kind of comparison would be made between me and Sean Connery, (other than the fact that we are both carbon-based life-forms) but I'll take it! Thanks Sindy!
Wooohooo, Sean Connery! I'll have to work on the accent. HT, are ya doing anything?

You know, folks, I think MT is the funniest person here at FoF. Here I am writing silly jokes and running around with popsickle sticks in my nose, and MT is dressing up like A Ranger, strapping on A plastic sword and teaching school. Amazing. Let's all hope that she never meets Viggo because it'd be A tragic loss if her soul got sucked out and then she probably wouldn't be funny anymore.

I admire you folks who are learning Tolkien-speak, but I'm having enough trouble with english. I used to be A good speller, (I even won A spelling bee once) but now I struggle with everyday words.

May you all have A great weekend, swabby

As a teacher, I agree with your comments on finding a name for a child that doesn't bring back horrific memories of a former student.

I had always wanted to name a son Joshua...that is until I had one in my class. Now everytime I see a Josh, I shudder. The same goes for a Dusten or Dustin. Either one would cause me to run screaming from the room. I have instructed my son that if/when he has kids, please consider not naming them these names. Of course, if he has girls that won't be a problem.

On the bright side of the naming of names, I found our son's name due to a student I had. He was such a lovely young man, and I loved the spelling of the name. So it does work both ways.

One year I had a class that had five Brandys in it. Every single one of them spelled it differently though, so that made it easier to distinguish them.

Old Tom: You make me feel guilty with all your exercising. I started out and did so well with the walking this summer, but since school has started, it's just stopped. If I got up earlier to exercise before I had to leave for school, I'd be up before 4 a.m. and after school I wouldn't get home until 8. I don't think I can handle that although I do walk the playground when I have recess duty. That helps. I am getting exercise with all the sanding/scraping/priming/painting that I've done the past couple of days.

Which by the way, I need to get back to. Have a wonderful weekend all!

Hello everyone,
I have been busy with my daughter and work.
Old Tom after your workout or before you go to bed soak those sore muscles in the tub. Thats what my trainer told me. It really helped me. It's been 10 years since I had a trainer. It was the only time I lost a significant amount of weight. Now I walk when I get the chance. We have a great walk track by my house. It was good to hear from you.

I have a Halloween party with the kids that I work with Thursday.
I am going as a hobbit even if my feet is quite a bit smaller I am just going barefoot as a woman hobbit of course

I really get a kick out of some of the names of the children of the parents I serve. I have three Jaydens all spelled differently. I have names that the parents pronounce and then spell and I look and wonder where the letter is that they are pronouncing.
I love Irish names and my first two children had Irish names my grandaughter was named after my great-grandmother Sarah Katherine we call her Katie .

Scots56 I am going to do some painting . You have inspired me.I am going to paint a downstairs room and change it into a bedroom.

MTMS how lovely to be able to walk on the beach.
Speaking of beach I just got word that my neice is stranded in Cancun and is a shelter. I hope she is ok.

Well, I have to run I am going to see Elizabethtown with my daughter. We saw Kingdom of Heaven on DVD last week and was to violent for me. The Crusades seem so senseless . I like Orlando Bloom as well as Viggo.

Hi everyone

Old Tom nice you are back.

MT sorry you didn't get to meet a Ranger at school but Swabby is right we would miss you! BTW did you like the owner's manuals?

Scots Nice to see your pic I am planning on buying a digital camera and a new pc and might post something then.

Swabby Sean Connery accent? hmm difficult but not impossible but you would have to pronounce your name as Shwabby

A question for my fellow FOF friends. How annoying do you find other people's kids? Not having any of my own I think I am probably less tolerant but I was in a shop today and this kid was whining and I so wanted to tell him to shut up! I didn't of course - Do other people's kids hack you off? Mind you I have had my own awww sweet moments as well watching interactions between parents and children.

Regards

Loved seeing the photos, you all look great. Thank you, Nenya, for the links. I resized and resubmitted mine yesterday. Trying to think of how to give everyone an idea but nothing comes to mind, as I'm not short or tall, just average height, etc. Don't usually self-describe much at 53 Was told a couple years ago after highlighting hair to blonde that I looked like Martha Stewart, but don't really think so. Anyhow, like MT says, will have to use your imagination for now.

Yes, SE, Viggo certainly does have those beautiful, soulful, dreamy eyes :love: (Lapses into Viggo moment here also...that look Viggo has in FOTR when he crosses the water and sees Lothlorien....ummmm:heart::love: )

SE, have not found an Elvish word for bathroom. Guess they did not have indoor plumbing in ME!

So funny hearing all the comments about teachers naming children. I can remember naming my kids and how difficult it was to come up with a name that didn't remind us of someone, has to be even more for the teachers.

I did co-teach some Bible school years ago. Favorite age was 1st and 2nd graders. Kindergarden was fun also but they needed more help with everything. Fifth grade was rather trying...they were definitely turning into "orcklings", lol!

Tom, it's great to see you back and exercising. It does become a habit after a while, although morning exercise never seemed to agree with me. Definitely takes some self-discipline to do that, but guess Tom Bombadil is more of a morning person, from what I've read in the book.

MT, a walk on the beach sounds wonderful....will come along in thought here... Have shared your thought about sailing into the West so can relate. But guess that time will come soon enough. Times like that I pop in a LOTR movie, write some poetry or if busy with life, just day-dream about our favorite guy.:heart:

Have a wonderful weekend, you are all mellon nin!:heart:

Adding a few comments here

We are such a communicative group here...post and then there are 2 more posts that were not there before....ummm, must be a bit slow here, hehe.

Anyhow, Awelyn, hope your niece is alright. Will keep her in my prayers.

LOL, can relate, HT! Especially annoying when parents permit their child to hit them. Or tell them not to do something while watching the child do it and too lazy to get up and enforce the issue. As far as tantrums, I can sympathize as my daughter was one of those who experienced the tantrums! It definitely made parenting difficult and I sincerely believe some children are born that way. Would have thought otherwise, except raised her the same as my son yet they are totally different. She's just always had quite a temper! My friends remember me taking her aside into the restroom or another room.

Hello all.

Thank you for your welcomes and kind words. I have just this evening finished performing in a play and my husband actually came to see it. My little grand daughter aged 8, also came. It was a comedy but the jokes were above her head but she still laughed. At the end of the play she was very upset with me and when I asked why she said that she did not like me hugging another lady on stage. The part I played was supposed to be a lesbian, and I managed to overcome my difficulties with the part as it was a comedy, but I did not realise that she would take it to heart. I must remember this next time I take her to a play. She is such a sensitive and loving soul as Rose will tell you.

So now I must get back to writing in "Memories" on Nienna. I have let it slip over the last couple of weeks with the pressure of rehearsals etc. Not bad for an old stager - I remembered my lines.

If you read the September "Courier" you would have seen a photograph of me in there being interviewed. it was fun. Hope you like the look of me.

I shall be keeping in with this thread as you are all such a talkative lot. Lovely to see and read all about you.

Off to bed now as it is late and I think I have now come back down to earth.

Night all!

Hello everyone,
Sorry the absence has been such a long one. I have been very busy. It's harvest season here at our farm, as well as school teaching and doing tickets at the ball games, oh and after school program 2 days a week. UH! Just plain hectic.

Lots of thoughts running through my mind.Lots of comments as well.
I love Viggo's eyes best. Forget the derriere.

On kids- I have three but they are all adopted. I wanted 8. I think God knew better! LOL The kids are 18, 19 and 21. All live at home. I find them peevish and self absorbed. Hoping for better manners in the future when they learn a little more about life. They have gotten nicer lately though or maybe it's my attitude. * I pretend they are renters who live upstairs*
They would all like to get their own places but the high cost of living is tough. We do enjoy them when theywant to have parents though and they are good, hardworking people.

I love the poetry that's been on here. I 've enjoyed your pictures as well. Nenya thanks for clueing us in about that.

I love this time of year. Everytime I go by a tree with gold leaves I think of Lothlorien. I love to listen to the whispering sigh of the wind in the trees.

Scots56-i too have been enjoying that beautiful full moon. It has been huge and lovely here in Idaho.

I'm sure there is more I want to say but thoughts are going so fast I can't catch them all.

Next week is Parent Conferences at our school. We conference on Weds. and Thurs. nights and the district gives us Friday off. Yahoo! Sure makes long days though, especially in a dress and nylons. Ugh! "We hatess nylonses don't we preciousss. Yes, we hatess nylonses."

Have a great week everyone.

Oh, thank you swabby for missing me if I were sucked into Viggo's eyes. I guess I wouldn't be myself there as much as I would be on the outside. I'd like to take a trip there, but I promise to come back!

I couldn't find the owner's manuals HT. I'll have to go back and look again.
I know what you mean about being around parents who are not parenting their children when out in public places. The teacher in me wants to correct/handle the children as needed. Sometimes I find myself in a theatre wanting to tell a child to stoop kicking the seat I'm sitting in and leave his brother's popcorn alone. I fight the urge to tell another child to walk, not run through the store. Tantrums are to be expected from young children at times, but parents not taking control of their children's behavior drives me nuts!!
Thought of you on my walk at the beach today Mith. It was a bit windy due to Wilma. Will be even more so tomorrow.
My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your almost-adult children Brandywine. I found that the closer my sons got to age 20, the more I enjoyed being around them. Going to college helped them gain a new appreciation for what their dad and I were doing for them. I thank God each day for how great they are. I am richly blessed.

Thinking about being a slug tomorrow and being as lazy as I can make myself. Will see what happens.

Hi everyone! I haven't left you. I just got very busy with work lately.

swabby: Saw your pic in the gallery. That is not what I pictured you as. But I do like the picture. Loved the poem by the way. Nice to be noticed when I'm not here. You do look a little like Swan Connery, who by the way is my favorite actor.

magoleth: Nice to see someone new. Hope your having a good time reading all the posts. I know I do.

Nenya: Thanks for the links to the pics. I just submitted mine. Thanks for the directions on how to do it.

MT: Hope the walk on the beach was nice. Wish I was there. I love walks on the beach with the sand going in between my toes. It's also good for the roughness on the feet.

I work in a Deli with Safeway. We had 5 trays to do today and I'n bushed. Yesterday was quite busy with Pizza Friday. And the day before getting ready for the weekend. It has been tiring.

On the thoughts of children: got one of each. Son is 24 and daughter is 18. I raised my son until he was 6 and my daughter til she was 1 1/2. I was not cut out to be a mother. I am glad I have 2 kids and they are healthy. My son grew up with Attention Deficit Disorder. I had him on Ritalin (shudders) and it did help. He was on it for one year. Now he is in trouble with the law. I think it has to do with the Ritalin he was on. I have a pic of my daughter when she was 3 and that's the last I hear about her. As for kids in public, I see all kinds in the grocery store I work in. I have worked in a grocery story for so long that I have now tuned them out. I have no choice. If you have questions on my children, ask away. I don't regret the decisions I made. I am one of those people that gladly gave up her children so they could have a life. Not one of those that raise kids just for welfare cheques and here in Canada we have Family Allowance. I hated being on welfare but getting kids into daycare was tough.

Anyways, I am still around, swabby. Nice to see I have not been forgotten.

Have a nice weekend.

I applaud you balrog for doing what's best for your children. I was adopted as an infant and I would love to have thanked my birth mother for her selfless act of giving me up. I never met her, but found out that she lived in West Virginia. I'm so very glad that God arranged for me to live in the deeeep south near the beach. I'm so very "made" for this place I live-location speaking. I wouldn't have the wonderful family I've had (great dad, grandmother, brother, cousin who's my angel on earth). I pray that your children have been blessed as much as I have.

I'm sorry to hear about your niece in a shelter in Cancun, awelyn. Sending thoughts and prayers of safety to the folks in the Yucatan.
Can you believe there's another one out there???
I've enjoyed watching Kingdom of Heaven DVD lately, as well. Love the armour, banners, chain mail, swords, weaponry. The acting isn't bad either and I enjoy the story. Sometimes I feel as if I should have been born back in the middle ages...but I love air conditioning, central heat and rock music. Cappicino is also something I'd greatly miss.

Teaching bible school was when I realized that I wanted to be a teacher,Mith. You mean people get paid to do this? Where do I sign up? I "signed up" by returning to college, with two young children in tow and kept myself on the dean's or president's lists, as far as grades were concerned.
Now I think I could teach a collegiate class titled What They don't Teach you in College. It would contain stories of Bubba tying his shoe laces to his pant's drawstring and how to avoid/handle that situation (when he stands up...). Why not to wash a child's mouth out with soap, aka when Kevin puked bubbles.

How exciting to be comfortable on stage, Magoleth. I salute you. I bet you have an outgoing personality, though I hear that alot of actors are shy offstage.

I'm crawling off to read the paper and return to slughood, though I will try my best not to leave a slime trail...but I just may. Have a great day.

The weather has cooled off A lot, especially at night and in the mornings, but still gets too warm for October during the day. Normally we would have maximum Fall colors at this time, but we don't.

It seems that we compliment one another so much (that's A good thing) that I sometimes lose track of who I owe A compliment to and who I should thank for having received one.

balrog, thankyou for the nice things you said, and please know that, speaking strictly for myself now, that I am not here to criticise or judge anyone in this forum. I'm sure we have all done the best we could. Our lives are shaped by many things that are beyond our control.
I am curious, though, about how you imagined me to be so different than I am. If I find that people imagine me to look like Viggo or Clive Owen, I may have to go on Oprah and get one of those "make overs".

I find myself at A bit of A disadvantage. Some of you end your posts with A "hugs and kisses" or even A "I love you all", which I really like to hear, but I don't think I could get away with saying those kind of things. I could be seen as either A sissy or A womanizer if I said stuff like that. Are there any suggestions about what A guy who wants to express strong and/or personal feelings could say to A group of ladies without incriminating himself? Perhaps something like "I like you all quite A bit but not too much". Schwabby
