He has giant, spiked wheels ..... interesting.

Perhaps he's just partial to spiky things, or perhaps he needs the traction now that he's rid himself of all the grass and left the area a muddy mess.

When he lost his horse in Tharbad on his way to Rivendell, he also lost all of his jewelry that he had foolishly taken with him in a saddle-pack. So he was just desperate to get any piece of jewelry in a way that he thought would be easy.

Well, Gandalf was known to smoke pipe-weed, the one thing discovered by the Hobbits. But Gandalf felt that even the best (strongest) Hobbit pipe-weed was lacking something, and Radagast was the source of the mushrooms which gave pipe-weed the needed extra kick.

Why did Radagast decide on rabbits as his sled-pullers?

Because there were oodles and oodles to choose from, he didn't have to worry about attrition due to over-work ...... and, frankly, he thought they were just soooo darned cute.

They had gone to the Shire stalking the Ringwraiths, but had missed them. So they figured tagging along with the rangers would be their best chance to find the baddies they were looking for.

Why did Radagast decide to use a sled year round, and not just in Winter?

He realized that they were not Brandywine Hobbits like Merry, and so would not survive the crossing of the river.

Why did the Lord of the Nazgûl, formerly aka The Witch-King, not realize that Merry, with his spell-bound dagger from the barrow near Tom Bombadil's home, was a deadly threat to him (and never mind Éowyn)?

The surroundings being so rocky, anywhere reasonably close to where they were they would have needed some of the stuff Saruman used at Helm's Deep to dig a grave - and they did not have that stuff.

Why did the boat bearing Boromir including all contents survive the Falls of Rauros undamaged?

It was caught by a little Gondorian boy who pretended he was a great Captain of Gondor and slayed orcs all afternoon until his mother called him into supper and the little boy threw down the broken horn and forgot all about it. The Anduin picked it up again and delivered it to a fisherman, who gave it to his daughter, who in turn gave it to her lover, who just happened to be a Tower Guard. And he gave it to the steward.

Is Maglor still around singing a lament on the Eastern most shores of this world?

Apparently, he has not left the building yet and has been seen hanging around a variety of Emo style concerts picking up new ideas for more songs.

Why on earth did Maedhros (nice avi btw, Cenor) decide to fling himself into a fiery chasm of all things, why not just throw the stupid jewel in and keep on trucking?

He actually tried to throw the stupid jewel in, but it had become stuck to his hand. And since he threw it with such violence and was standing too close to the edge, it drew him into the chasm. Chicken droppings happen.

Why was Maglor able to throw away his Silmaril, in contrast to Maedhros (see above)?
