Post RE: The Journey of Willow Undertree or Jewels of the Avari

Once a fair distance from her group, Vana took to the trees and doubled her speed to keep ahead of the patrol. Just a little further, she thought. She knew a place where she could lose them and circle around. Maybe she could make them think she went singing in another direction. Whatever she was going to do, she was confident it would work.

Down below her, the captain of the patrol frowned as he listened to the voice shouting. He knew a little Dwarvish, the language he was sure the escapee was employing, and none of the words made any sense. Besides...the voice was now coming from the places in the trees the Silvan elves typically used as their passage. Worse and worse, he was becoming more and more aware that they were only following one person; there had been a lot more than that in the group that fled from the palace. His mouth set angrily; they would find this tree squirrel and make it tell them where the others were.

Vana paused for breath for a moment, leaning against the trunk of a friendly tree as she gasped; shouting and running at top speed was tiring. But it wasn't much further now...

She jumped as she felt a mind close to hers. A short expletive escaped her as she kept running; no time for rest now. Even if it killed her, she couldn't let them catch her.
