Miki walked down to the shore, accomanyied by William and Robert. Once they got there, Miki took out the mirror nad ELine's face appeared once again.
"Are you ready?" he asked, Elaine nodded.
"alright," he said, and knelt down next to the water, drawing a circle over the surface of the sea with his fingers, speaking an some dead launguage. As he spoke, the words seemed to echo, even though they were outside. As Miki stood back up, the surface of thw ater went still and glassy, and Elaine's image vanished from the mirror, and reappeared on the surface of the sea.
William gasped, Robert's eyes went wide, and Miki felt woozy, this was taking more out of him than he thought it would.
"Can you see me Elaine?" he asked, he could see Elaine nod her head.
"I'm going to begin the actual spell know, alright?" HE said, and reached towards the surface of the water.
"stop!" a voice yelled from the shadows. Mika had followed them down, and now stepped out of the shadows. "If you do a spell like that on your own, you'll be unconsious for weeks," she informed him. "I better help you before you get yourself killed. "
"Mika?!" Miki squeaked. "HOw in the seven hells did you get here?! And what did you do to your hair!?" Mika glannced quickly at Aroura, flashing her a secrative don't worry look.
" I found my way onto one of the ships," she said, placing her hands on her hips in front of her brother. "I decided I had every right to be here that you do." Miki slapped a hand to his forehead.
"ANd you worry about me getting killed..." he muttered. Elaine made a small noise, bringing Miki back to the reason he ccame here.
"Really sorry about that," he muttered. "but now I have someone to help me." Mika came to hold Miki's hand, so Elaine and the knight could see her. Both looked a little confused, with Mika's hair cut it really was like seeing double.
Miki looked at Mika, she nodded. They said three words together, then Miki crouched down to the surface of the water, never letting go of Mika's hand. With a deep breathe, he eased his hand into the water. And to Elaine and Sir Brogan's surprise, his apeard on thier side of the ocean.
"Take my hand Elaine," Miki said, sweat trrickling down his brow, MIka was also short of breath. "I can pull you through."

Elaine and Brogan has settled down underneath the boathouse waiting for Miki to call. Elaine turned to Brogan. He looked so calm and collected, even though they were both undertaking this daring escape.

"I want to thank you for taking me here and doing all this for me," she said quietly.

"I'm also doing this for myself. I don't belong here in Norway. I don't agree with how things are being run. And I believe I can do some good for you and your country," he said, sounding very serious.

"But how will I contact you? Or even make sure you've reached Denmark?"

"Don't worry. I'll get there somehow. And I'll find you too. Elaine, I-"

But whatever he was about to say, Elaine would never know, for Miki was calling her through the mirror. "Are you ready?" he asked.

Elaine nodded, and Brogan helped her to her feet and they walked to the shore. Elaine nervously clutched Brogan's hand, but immediately let it go when she felt something coming over her. She felt slightly dizzy and wanted to sit down, but something was holding her up. She was in darkness, and it was endless. Somehow she felt the water lapping at her ankles. She made a sound; a whimper.

Then her vision cleared, but her head was still spinning a little. She must be going crazy because now there were two Miki's in the mirror. She could not turn her head away from the mirror, but she heard Brogan gasp. He steadied her shaking form by grabbing hold of her elbow. Then to their astonishment Miki appeared right in front of them. "Take my hand," he said, "I can pull you through."

Elaine placed a trembling hand into Miki's without a word. He took hold and pulled her through the water.

Miki grasped Elaines hand, and pulled her to the other side of the spell. With a gasp, Miki, Elaine and Mika all went tumbling to the sand.
"are you alright, Elaine, Mika?" Miki asked, both nodded, thier heads
"That was foolish, little brother," Mika snorted at him, she was pinned under him, and Elaine had fallen on top of them both.
"I love you too Mika," Miki smiled, and with that, both twins slipped into unconsiousness, the mirror spell still reflecting Sir Brogan.

((Hey! I'm here, I swear! ))

The ruse had played well, no one had recognized her and after her presence was no longer required, she retired to her chambers and became the real Joan again. She fell into a chair and let out a sigh, John watching her intently.

"I shan't be able to do this every day John," she said.

"You did well enough today, they seemed fooled," John replied.

"I am at my wits end and already stretched beyond it. I tell you I cannot do it, we must find a way out of this!"

They sat together for a long time, neither saying anything, both plotting how to get out of this. Joan was right, her court mannerisms had appeased the king and Henry for today, but it had been fairly simply; curtsies, sitting, the way she held herself. It was not enough if she wanted to pull off a full-scale impersonation of Lady Aurora.

"What if...if I tried to teach you how to be a lady," suggested John.
**************************************************
It had been a long afternoon, but Joan was transformed. She could eat, speak, dress, walk, and act like a courtier. Even she felt confidant that it would be good enough for the nobles. John had even begun to teach her how to write, though the process had been long. She could spell, though still needed his help with many words.

As she sat at the desk in Aurora's room, attempting to write a letter to Robert, John kept interrupting her to quiz her on how to eat sweetmeats properly or the like.

"Would you calm down John?! I know what I have to do!" she shouted, growing impatient with him.

"Yes, yes, I am sorry. I'm just worried that..."

"Oh do stop already, I am trying to write to someone."

He stopped, but quickly told her that she needed to learn how to dance.
"I knew there was something I had forgotten," he said.

And so it was that Joan put her pen and ink down and was taught how to dance properly. It reminded her of the ball in Denmark, when she and Robert attempted their lopsided dances in the garden and she smiled at the memory.

"What is the smile for?" asked John.

"No reason...Have I got the steps down yet?" Joan said.

"Not to this particular part, it's rather difficult. You have to twirl at the same time as stepping to the side and forward. Here, let me show you."

He went behind her and placed both hands on her hips, turned her in a circle and lightly pushed her to the side and forward at the same time. The step was too complicated for Joan though and she tripped on his feet, causing both to fall. They lay there laughing, for the scene was comical, but John stopped laughing first. His tone became sombre and serious.

"Run away with me Joan. Let's forget this charade and go live in a faraway land. We could be so happy together."

This made her laugh even harder, for she took it as one of his jokes, but turning to him she saw how grave his expression was and hers became so to.

"Even if I wanted to, I could not. Already I have left my home and those I love once, I cannot bear to do so again."

(Oh MLG that is sooooo sweet. )

Aurora and the others looked at the unconsciouse Miki and Mika. They had to get out of there as the tide was coming in. Elaine looked at Sir Brogan who's image was still reflected in the water.
"Go." He said to everyone. "I will be fine here. Somehow I will find a way to meet up with you."
Robert and Aurora nodded then working together they picked up teh mages and made their way back to camp, Elaine following behind. They reached the camp just as the sun began to peep over the horizon. Aurora and Robert put the two in Miki's tent to rest untill they woke up. Aurora wanted to stay by Mika's side but there was another part of her that wanted to see her father.
She decided in the end that she would go and try to catch a glimps of him and make sure that he was alright. She learned that he was with Phillip discussing the next fase of the plan. Then an idea struck her. Her father had no page or squire with him. If she could convince him to take her as his then she could look after him. She made her way to the royal tent where she was immediately stopped by the guards. She had completely forgotten that she was no longer a courtier to them.

**********

"I think that will be hard on the men your Highness. But you are our commander and we will follow you to whatever end. Shall I have the men prepare for all of today?"
"Yes, they should gather their strength back."
Suddenly there was commotion outside of the tent; the guards arguing with someone.

Robert and William had put Miki and his sister in a tent and left them to rest. Turning to Elaine, who looked a little lost, he smiled in a friendly way.

"Well, I suppose we should find you a place." he commented, then cocked his head. "I think the medical tent could use any extra hands. Do you think you would be up to their work? If not, I'm sure we can find something else."

***

Luke came out of his tent, rubbing his eyes. Robert hadn't been there when he awoke, and the thief wondered if Robert had even slept. He had found Robert's letter and knew that the boy would want it sent...but it was doubtful if he would be able to find a way. Briefly, Luke wondered how she was doing.

***

Philip frowned at the yelling and stood, striding towards the entrace. He lifted the tent flap to see the guards arguing with a small, slender boy who had auburn hair. Philip blinked...he had seen this boy before...his name was William?

The guards quieted when they saw the prince. Philip's green eyes studied them, then he spoke. "What is wrong?" he asked.

(OOC: Hm, John had better watch it, M! Wouldn't want to make Robert mad. *grin*)

((lol, now that Robert knows how to use a sword... Ok, so I realise that my posts don't have much of an effect on the rest of the story, but I'm going somewhere with this all...))

An awkward silence followed, broken by Joan standing up and brushing herself off. John mimicked her.

"I suppose I should go get Aurora's dinner now, else it would seem odd," she said, craftily avoiding looking at him.

"Did you not know? You cannot dine in the apartments anymore, you are required to eat with the royal family..." said John.

It was going to be a long night....
**************************************************
At the table, Joan was seated next to Henry, not far down from the King and Queen. Her unease must have been apparent for random people whom she did not recognize continually asked her why she looked so pale.

"I fear the food has not been agreeing with me these past few days, though it is of very fine quality," she would reply, being very careful not to insult anything.

Indeed the food was unexplicable to her eyes; she could appreciate that it was probably very expensive, therefore the best in the eyes of the nobles, but her stomach hungered for the simple food she ate with the other servants. Fresh bread, a hot bowl of soup...even a piece of cheese if you were lucky enough to get one before everyone else did.

As the next course arrived, Joan's stomach gave a lurch and she turned to Henry.
"I must excuse myself, I am feeling very ill," she said and got up.

Perhaps he remembered how he wanted to be more civil to her or simply he felt it was his duty, but he got up as well and escorted her to her rooms.

"I will be alright now, I assure you. You may you go back to supper now, if you wish," said she to him.

"Oh, yes, I er, suppose so. You do not want me to call the physician?"

"No, I shall be just fine." She curtsied to him and he turned to leave. But during dinner her mind had not been completely idle, and she stopped him before he left.

"Henry, I mean, my Lord, would it be possible for me to return to Denmark?"

A look of awe passed over his face and then he laughed.
"England is your home now Aurora, get comfortable here."

"No, I just meant to help out my father during the war. He used to value my opinion very highly and I just thought..." she pleaded with him.

"Now Aurora, do not worry your little head about things that are not of your concern. The Queen has plenty of advisors and does not need you as well. Your place is here," he said with an edge in his voice and turned once again to leave.

Joan's mind raced, she needed a reason to get back to Denmark. She could not marry the Prince...She might as well say it, she was already pretending to be someone she was not, endangering not only her life, but Aurora's as well, so she figured things couldn't get worse and stepped in front of the door to bar his way.

"You see my Lord, it is my father, he is ill...He was ill before I left and I fear he may not be here much longer..." She began to cry and sob, figuring she should go all the way with her act.

"I...I can suggest something of the sort to my father and see what he thinks..." He took Joan into a light hug and she stopped crying.

"Really? You will?"

"I will do my best," he said and left.

Joan smiled, she was going home. She ran to the desk and quickly scribbled a last note onto her letter to Robert before signing it.
I should be coming home anytime now, so look for me on the horizon.
Yours, Joan.

(Hey question for everyone, but mainly about Joan - since Joan's going to come back to Denmark, would it be possible for her to be stuck at sea or taken hostage or something? After all, Norway's supposed to have control of the docks. Just let me know.)

Elaine was feeling extremely disoriented after being yanked back into Denmark. She was dizzy and confused, but was coherent enough to recognize Robert's friendly face. She also noticed that Miki was passed out on the shore, along with who must be his sister Mika (although Elaine had no clue as to where she came from.) She glanced passingly at the other youth with them, but did not recognize him. But while she was mutely walking back to the camp she couldn't help but feel there was something strange about that boy who called himself William. Since she couldn't quite put her finger on it, she pushed the thought to the back of her head.

They finally reached the camp and Elaine realized that she had no idea what she was going to do or where to go. In Norway, she'd only thought about how she was going to get back home. And now that she was home, she had no job, and was in an army's camp surrounded by fighting men and not courtly ladies. She was looking around helplessly when Robert kindly suggested she help out at the medical tents.

Elaine allowed herself to be escorted to the medical tents, and gave Robert a friendly smile and thanked him for all his help. She entered the tent and was immediately overwhelmed by the stench of sweat and blood and steel, along with the overall feel of exhaustion and death. Elaine felt ill to her stomach and wanted to run out of there and never come back. But trying to maintain her dignity, she just quickly ducked underneath the tent flap into the cool night air.

She walked around for a few minutes, breathing in the fresh air and calming her nerves and queasy stomach. She berated herself for her weakness. Her problems were nothing compared to those of the men inside. They were risking their lives for their country and all she could think about was throwing up. Well, she wasn't as helpless as all that, she told herself. So she strode back into the tent and set herself to being as useful as possible.

The main tent was very large, but was brimming with the wounded. Pallets were laid out neatly in rows on the floor, filling the entire space. Off to one side was a table piled with linens and bandages. There were also various medicines and salves and potions in stoppered bottles on another table. Attendants were rushing around filling basins with clean water for a surgery, or fetching more bandages, or soothing a restless patient. The surgeons working with the severely wounded. Stifled moans, cries of pain, and fervent prayers mingled in the air.

Despite being gently born, Elaine was not unused to manual labor. She had had to keep house when she was younger, before being called up to become a handmaiden for Lady Cassandra. So Elaine took to attending with ease.

For the next few hours Elaine found herself mopping the sweaty brows of these good men, while tenderly helping them to a cool drink of water or feeding them a spoonful of soup. She washed and changed dirty linens and bedsheets. She helped the surgeons dress wounds or aided in changing a bloodied bandage. She was never off her feet, but the hours flew by.

(I'm sorry, I've been on Spring Break and didn't have a computer. MLG and I were thinking that through. I think that would be a great twist. Maybe she can be captured during the next battle and Rafe could personally hold her hostige thinking that she is Aurora and offer a ransom.)

Aurora looked up surprised and relieved to see Phillip there. Within an instant her father was by his side.
"What is wrong?" Phillip asked sternly.
"This boy wanted to see you and Lord Rupert but we told him you were busy." The guard beside her said. He tightened his grip on her arm.
"My Lords, I did not mean any harm. I only wish to offer my services."
Suddenly a sharp blow came to her face. The stinging pain and the heat swelled on her cheek.
"Enough!" she heard Phillip say. She looked up slightly just so she caught Phillip speaking with her father. Both nodded and then Rupert lifted her up and brought her into the royal tent.
"Now what is this all about?" Phillip asked.
"I would ask permission My Lord of you to allow me to serve as servent to Lord Rupert as I know he has none."
"And how do you know he has none?"
"I was escort to the Lady Aurora when she left for England. She told me how she worried for her father as with her gone there would be no one to look after him." She knew she had to wrap it up some how. "I feel that I owe it to her."
There was silence in the tent. Slowly she raised her eyes to look into Phillip's face.

(I think that's a good idea! ^__^)

Philip's eyes were far away. Aurora...he hadn't had much time to think on her but this story brought her painful absence all the more forceful.

'I feel I owe it to her...' the boy had said. Philip looked at him.

"What is your name?"

"William, sir."

Philip nodded. "Very well then." He forced a smile. "If Lord Rupter has no objectioins, then you may begin in his service."

***

Robert had escorted Elaine to the medical tent then had gone to the twins' tent to check on the two. They both were sound asleep. Robert smiled, then went to round up 'his men' as Luke had jokingly termed them earlier. He wanted to see how many were wounded and who needed their weapons repaired...the boy paused and rubbed his eyes. Goodness he was tired...

***

Luke was searching for Stephen; he wanted to know what the next plan was. The last retreat had dampened spirits of the men. The red-headed theif was worried; what did Denmark plan to do next?

Surprise was probably out of the question unless...Luke paused. He had, in the beginning, offered his services as a 'sneaky man' to Stephen. Though not one to boast, Luke did have to admit that he was better than average at getting into places most men couldn't. And right now, Denmark needed any advantage.

Striding forward purposefully, Luke found Stephen near the blacksmith's make shift stall. The knight turned as Luke called his name. The thief's face was dead serious; unusual for him.

"I have had an idea, but I need someone to back me up with the Prince." he began. "I remember joking about being a spy or such for the army a long time ago. It's about time I put some wieght behind my words."

Aurora looked at Rupert earnestly, hopefully. Her father nodded with a weak smile. Aurora bowd her head to both of them.
"Thank you my Lords."
"Follow me."
Rupert led her to the back of the tent and lifting the flap revealed another tent connected to it.
"This is my tent. You will stay here with me. It is important that you know that in my service you will also serve His Highness. You will hear many secretive things and must swear to remain silent about them."
Aurora nodded. She knew that mistakes like that could lead to dishonor and that was the last thing she want for her father.
"His Highness may call on you for whatever he wishes for you are in his serves as well."
"I understand."
Rupert left her to gather her things from her old tent and transfer them to his. Along the way she spotted Stephen and Luke and approached them.
"What are you two up to?"

Stephen had left the Prince's tent and was checking on the progress of the weapons repairs. Things were going smoothly and there were not many blades needing to be completely reforged; only some nicks and cuts needing to be smoothed out. He heard his name being called, and turned to find a very serious-faced Luke.

Stephen looked questioningly at Luke. "I have had an idea, but I need someone to back me up with the Prince," Luke began. "I remember joking about being a spy or such for the army a long time ago. It's about time I put some wieght behind my words."

Stephen shivered. This was very unlike the Luke he knew, but Stephen was positive Luke meant every word. "You want to spy on Norway?"

"Yes. I know I can find out some information that can be of use to you," Luke stated.

Stephen felt uneasy at the prospect of Luke, or anyone spying. He knew it was a necessary role in warfare, but there were always the fears of being caught.

"Even though I'm not completely comfortable with the idea of it, I have to admit it would be a huge asset if you could gather any kind of information," he said.

"What are you two up to?" William asked, as he came around the corner.

"Spying," Stephen said.

((Ok, so this is the plan: Joan will be coming back from Denmark, having sent the letter ahead to Robert explaining how she was pretending to be Lady Aurora and that she was coming home. But, the letter gets intercepted by Rafe, who then captures Joan and tries to use her against Denmark, to make them think they have Lady Aurora. Meanwhile, the real Aurora is out fighting her heart out, unbeknowst to her that Joan is coming back. Sir Brogan ends up helping Joan out by letting Philip know that 'Lady Aurora' is really Joan and that she needs help. What follows can be decided seperatly I suppose.))

Joan paced around her chamber, anxious as to whether her plan would work. Already she had sent the letter off, hoping it would reach Robert soon.

But for now her hands felt as though they were wanting some work, good ol' tough farmhouse work. It had been a long time since she had smelt hay or had to clean out a cow stall. Her hands were starting to forget how real work was done.

She figured it would do her no harm to go out for a ride...as Lady Aurora of course. She sighed at the thought, already fed up with her role as 'Aurora' but reminding herself that it would only be for a short while longer.

In the barn she easily found Aurora's horse, it was the only one with fine, yet foreign, tack. She must have looked odd, walking sternly past the stableboys, and stubbornly towards her horse while dismissing their pleads to let them do it.

The horse whined slightly at an unfamiliar touch, but she laid her head gently on its neck.
"Give me this one ride, that's all I ask of you...." she whispered and the horse calmed immediately.

Once she saddled him up and mounted, astride of course, Joan rode the lovely horse out towards the open lands beyond the castle walls. She had to go slowly, and rather awkwardly at first, since she was not used to riding in such a confined manner.

Reaching the plains she dismounted, only to clamber up again so that she rode properly again, one leg on either side. Her dress was hitched up and she feared to lose her bonnet as Joan rode fiercely down the moors. All her senses gave in to the ride. The wind licked around her face and stung at her eyes, but still she rode on. The bonnet she wore to hold in her hair flew away and was lost among the grasses.

But she felt she needed to give the horse a break as well as her own legs, so she slowed down and came off the horse. She laid down on a long flat rock and wondered where her letter was right now. She knew he couldn't be reading it yet, but she imagined it travelling in a little pouch across the channel and over choppy waters...Little did she know the letter was closer to the border of Denmark, yet would never reach it's adressee.

Her train of thought was quickly intercepted by the sound of hooves galloping towards her. Joan lifted her head to see a black horse riding swiftly, it's rider was a face she recognized.

"They're calling for you Joan....at the castle....They wish to see Lady Aurora...as soon as possible," said John, out of breath from a quick ride.

Joan was still on a high from the few moments of freedom she had encountered and mounted fast, staring down at John.
"I'll race you back.....!" She shouted from her seat and sped off.
****************************************
"My father and I have decided that you should return home, for a short period of time," announced Prince Henry, when Joan had been received in their chambers.

A smile crept up to her face, but she fought to keep it at bay. She curtsied low.
"When may I depart, my Lords?"

"On the morrow would be best, so as you may return in a fortnight to prepare for the wedding ceremony," said the king.

"I thank you kindly your Majesty, and I bid you good health while I am away," she said, curtsing once again before backing out of the room.

Luke chuckled at Stephen's answer to William and at the young man's confused face. William reminded Luke of Robert quite a bit...

"Spying may be a way for us to gain an advantage." he stated. "The first we would have since this whole thing began."

He turned back to Stephen. "How soon do you think I could see the prince? Would you mind speaking for me? I am not sure a humble theif would be welcomed at first."

"Well, the sooner the better. Dawn will be breaking in a few hours, and you would probably have to wait until the next nightfall before you can safely try to sneak into Norway's camp," Stephen said, rubbing his chin thoughtfully.

"I think the Prince is free at the moment," William cut in.

Stephen looked questioningly at the boy.

"I just left his tent not a few moments ago," the boy stated.

"Let's go then," Luke exclaimed, and led the way to the Prince's tent.

Stephen spoke to a guard outside requesting an audience with the Prince. The guard came back out and ushered them into the tent.

"What can I do for you, Sir Stephen?" Philip asked genially.

Stephen bowed low, straightened and addressed the Prince. "I have an odd request to make, although I feel it would benefit Denmark greatly." He gestured to Luke. "This man here has offered us his services of spying."

Philip's green eyes rested on the thin redhead besided Stephen. The prince thought he looked vaguely familiar, but only vaguely; as if he had passed by the young man at some point.

"What is your name, sir?" he asked politely.

"Luke." the red-head gave a slight bow and straightened. Philip smiled slighlty.

"I hear you would offer to be a spy, but-"

"I was a theif before the war." Luke cut in, knowing what the prince was going to ask. "There wasn't a place I couldn't break or sneak into. I even ran pretty free in your castle, if you pardon the impudence."

All this was said without boasting; Luke was simply stating a fact. Philip nodded and thought for a moment, then stood. "Very well then, Luke. I thank you for your offer. This is a brave thing for you to do." the prince stated gravely; the consequences for Luke would be high if he were caught.

In answer, the theif's thin face broke out into a merry grin that was echoed by a glint in his grey eyes. "I've always enjoyed a challenge, m'lord. That's all this is." he stated with quiet confidence.

The two men bowed and left the tent.

Once outside, Luke blew out a breath. "Well, it's official now."

***

Robert hovered near the entrace to the medical tent. He really wanted to go and get some sleep, but he wanted to check on Elaine first. Opening the flap, he spotted the young woman and walked up to her, but she seemed very busy.

"Is there anyway I can help?" he asked her anxiously, a little overwhelmed by the suffering that was around them. A slight queasy feelign twisted in his stomach; similiar to the one he had expereineced in battle, but Robert pushed it away.

Stephen sighed as he and Luke left the Prince's tent. It was official. And easier than he'd expected, but that was besides the point now.

"Are congratulations in order then?" Stephen joked, grinning widely. But he sobered quickly. They still had to work out how Luke would get to Norway's camp and how he would send his reports back. "Will you leave tonight?"

***************

Elaine was deftly wrapping a bandage around a soldier's forearm when she saw Robert enter the tent. He spotted her and came over. She quickly tied the ends of the bandage together and gave the man a smile. As she got up to greet Robert, another attendant came over to give the man a sleeping draught.

"Is there anyway I can help?" Robert asked.

"Hello Robert!" Elaine exclaimed. She was glad to see his familiar face, especially after all he did to help get her back home. "Most of the men have been taken care of. Mainly all there is to do now is to change bandages and just watch the men and make sure they are resting and healing properly."

She stopped, just noticing Robert's slightly green face. She'd been working in the surgery tents for a few hours already and barely noticed the smell of blood and sweat. But she soon remembered the queasy feeling in her stomach when she first arrived here.

So not wanting to embarrass Robert in his valiant attempts to control his stomach, she said brightly, "This is the first real break I've had all night. I've been so busy. But would you mind taking a walk with me outside, while I get some fresh air?"

Aurora was left in Phillip's tent. Her father had gone off to prepare more of the men before the attack in the morning and had told her to stay and do what she could for the Prince.
"Is there anything else you need Your Highness?"

********

Lord Rupert made his way through the camp, briefing men on what was happening and making sure that their commanders were getting them ready.
He passed by the Medical area were the girl Elaine was doing a fine job. He noticed her talking with the boy Robert. Rupert was trying to remember where he had seen him before. No answer coming to him he shrugged it off, knowing that it would come to him eventually, and continued his rounds through the camp.

Luke nodded, his face echoing Stephen's sobriety. "Yes, that would probably be best." He was silent for a moment. "I'm going to need a way to get reports back; perhaps you could arrange for a man to be at a certain point..." the thief paused and smacked his head. "What am I thinkin'? Where's Miki? Couldn't he give us one of those magical mirrors or somethin'? It'd be easier to give you reports that way..."

***

Robert blinked, then nodded. "Yes, I wouldn't mind at all." He smothered a yawn as he held up the tent flap for Elaine to pass through first. They walked though the camp, but Robert suddenly felt tongue tied. Beyond Joan and some of the younger maids, he didn't really know how to talk to a girl.

"So...the medical tent is not too difficult for you?" he asked finally, a little red from not knowing what to say. He bit back another yawn and suddenly wondered how Joan was doing. He wished she were back...

***

Philip looked up to see William still there. He smiled quietly at the boy's question. "No, I don't think so. Not unless you any sort of battle plans in that head of yours." The prince sighed and rubbed his eyes.

"Where is Miki anyway?" Stephen asked as Luke led the way towards Miki's tent. "I haven't seen him since the fighting ended."

********************

Elaine and Robert left the tents and Elaine took a few gulps of the fresh night air. She was feeling a little tired now and very hungry. She couldn't remember the last time she had a meal. They walked in silence for a few moments, but she turned when Robert asked, "So...the medical tent is not too difficult for you?"

"The medical tents are not too difficult at all. It took a while to get used to the smells, but the work is not hard," Elaine replied in answer to Robert's question.

She then smiled brightly at him. "I wanted to thank you again for bringing me back home," she said gratefully. Robert opened his mouth to say something, probably to deny he'd done anything, but Elaine cut him off. "I know Miki and Mika did all the work, but I know you also lent your strength to help them both. It was very brave of you to do this."

She leaned over and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. Surprised at her spontaneous action, Elaine blushed hotly and looked away. After a few moments of silence, Elaine cleared her throat and tried to restart their conversation. "Ummm... Where are Miki and Mika resting? I need to go and thank them as well."

Luke started to walk. "I think Robert and William put him and his sister in their tent. Come; they'd have to get up at some point."

***

Robert blinked, suddenly flushing very red. "Um...I put them in their tent...I mean, you know they needed thier rest..." Realizing that he was dangrously close to babbling, Robert shook his head and then straightened. "I'll show you the way; they may be awake. This way."

(LOL!! Hoo boy, I can just imagine Luke's reaction to that little scene; hope he doesn't find out because then Robert will never hear the end of it. *grins*)

(Maybe Luke can find out - it'll be pretty funny for everyone.)

Elaine and Robert walked to Miki and Mika's tent in silence, since they both could not get over their embarrasment. Fortunately, it was not a long walk at all. They happened to get there the same time Luke and Stephen did.

"Elaine!" Stephen cried. He was not aware Miki had gone through with the plan to bring Elaine home. He was as surprised to see Elaine as Elaine was to see him. He watched as her gray eyes lit up and a tiny smile flittered on her face. "When did you get back?" he asked.

"A few hours ago. Miki, Mika, Robert, and William helped bring me back home. It's good to see you again Sir Stephen," Elaine said quietly. She was glad to have gotten such a reception - he really looked happy to see her. She turned to Luke to say hello, but caught him laughing silently, probably at them.

"What are you two doing here? Robert brought, hoping Miki and Mika were awake so I could properly thank them," she said.

(Yeah, lol)

Luke nodded in a friendly way to Elaine while Robert opened the tent flap. Both mages seemed to be asleep, so the blonde boy walked over and cautiously shook Miki's shoulder.

The mage opened an eye. "Is something wrong?" he asked sleepily. Feeling a bit guilty for waking him, Robert's face flushed a little more.

"Er...Sir Stephen and Luke need to see you about something and Elaine is here to thank you..." he said.

Miki stood and walked out with him.

There were only a few more hours before dawn. Aurora was exhausted, she hadn't slept for the past two nights trying to make sure that everything was fine. She sat in the coner of Phillip's tent watching him move about from map to map. It pained her to see him like this but to comfort him was to go out ofher place and be discovered.
As he moved about he noticed that she was still there. Aurora saw him smile weekly. It was obvious that he was troubled and worried.
"Go and get some rest William. You will need your strength in a few hours."
"I will not, unless you can assure me that you do not need anything."
"I will be fine. There is really nothing else you can do. You will be wakened when it is time."
Aurora rose, bowed, and went back into her father's tent. She moved off to the side and fell to the ground. In an instant she was asleep. A deep, dreamless sleep.

John followed Joan all the way back to her apartments after her audience with the King.

"So you're returning home?" he asked.

"Of course! I need to be back in Denmark, that's where I belong, not here," she said, unpinning her hair. "I am not Lady Aurora, I am a servant. I cannot pull off being a Lady any longer. Besides, she has not come back, so I will go find her."

"That's all very good, but what will you tell your Lady Aurora when the two weeks are up? She will have to return and face what she was basically running away from, or you will have to do it for her. What good is in either? And, unless you were already aware of this, Denmark is at war with Norway," John replied.

"That all matters little, we can figure things out when the time comes. And what does the war have to do with my return?"

"It has everything to do with your return! Do you not see? Norway controls the ports, and is quickly advancing on the capital. What will you do when you get there? What are you going home to? A war ravaged country, that will likely fall to the enemy? You are a fool Joan, though I regret that the words had to be said by me."

"Why do you say such things when you know them not to be true? If Denmark falls, England will be next and England will not let that happen. As to what I am going home to, it is something beyond your grasp to understand," Joan said coldly, turning around.

"What is beyond my understanding? Perhaps, you speak of love, of a man who has captured your heart and is now fighting for his life in battle. He may be dead. Why return to the dead when the living is standing right before you?"

He stood in front of her now, taking her hands in his. She looked at him, and for the first time Joan was tempted to simply give in to all he was saying. John was partly right, she did not know what she would find once she got back; it may not be what she expected. She looked down at the hem of her dress, carefully embroidered and skillfully done. John took her into his arms, and her head fell on his shoulder; Joan felt like crying.

What if Aurora was dead? What if Denmark was fighting a losing battle? Why did she want to go back to that? And what if John was right, for all she knew Robert could be dead. At that thought tears threatened to spill from her eyes, but she just hugged John back; it was all she could do to not cry.

"I'll follow you wherever you go Joan," he whispered softly to her. "I'll come with you to Denmark if that is where you are going next and I'll go into the very fires of hell if that is what you wish of me."

She pulled away from him, afraid now. But as she looked into his eyes, there was nothing but a tenderness. His face grew closer to hers, and before she knew what was happening, John kissed her. Joan didn't resist, but thoughts of Robert immediately sprang to her mind and she pulled away from John.

"I should get ready for the voyage John," she said, once again staring at her feet. "And if you are to come as well....perhaps you should prepare yourself."

He smiled at her and kissed her on the cheek before bidding her goodnight and exiting. She fell onto the bed, confused and exhausted. Withing minutes she was asleep, still in all her finery, forgetting how sore she would be the next morning.

Luke had recieved a mirror similiar to what Miki had given Elaine and the group had left after Elaine had given her thanks so Miki could get some more sleep.

Robert went back to his tent and fell into an exhausted sleep. Luke followed his example since he would be leaving that night for Norway's forces.

Philip also slept, but it was a restless sleep. His last waking throught was of his mother and how she was holding up...

***

Luke fastened a dark colored cloak, ignoring the worried looks a sleepy Robert was giving him.

"Are you really sure about this?" the smaller boy asked.

"If I weren't, I wouldn't be doing this." Luke answered. "You know I'm not one to exert myself unless I feel like it."

Robert only smiled wryly.

"So..." Luke turned and carefully put the mirror in his belt pouch, followed by his small pack of what he called his "tools of the trade". "What mischief were you up too with our lovely Elaine? You shouldn't be kissing strange girls."

He meant in a teasing way, knowing full well that Robert was far too shy for such a thing. His friend, red-faced instantly burst out with, "I did not! She-" Robert stopped and turned redder if it were possible. Luke blinked and looked at him.

"She did?" he asked unbelievingly.

"Only on the cheek. To thank me." Robert said, a little defensively. Luke's mouth twitched.

"That's our little lady killer!" he punched Robert's arm and laughed at the younger boy's angry expression. "But you'd best be careful, Rob. Two women may be too much for you to handle, especially when one has a temper such as Joan's!"

Robert looked away. Luke chuckled and quickly finished his light packing, assuming that Robert was still fuming.

"Luke?"

The theif paused and looked back at his friend. The look of sadness in his friend's blue eyes made him pause. "Yes?"

"Do you think I'll see her again?" Robert asked, his tone almost wistful. "Even with her so far away in England?"

Luke placed his hand on Robert's shoulder. "What does your heart tell you?" he asked softly.

There was a pause. "I do not know." the boy finally admitted. "A voice says that yes, I will. The other says that it is impossible. And I do not know which is my heart and which is my head."

There was a pause and Luke squeezed Robert's shoulder, then stood. "I need to get going."

Robert stood as well. "Be careful, Luke." he said earnestly, blue eyes wide. Luke gave a confident grin.

"Of course. Don't worry about me, Rob. Worry about yourself." Luke tugged Robert's long gold hair, then turned and walked out of the tent. Robert followed and watched his friend dissapear into the darkness.

Elaine had thanked Miki and left him to rest for the rest of the night. She was surprised to see that Luke was going to spy on Norway's troops - it was so dangerous! - but he'd sounded so determined while he was explaining to Miki. There was nothing she could do but offer him words of luck and support and said her goodnights to the men.

Stephen left Luke and Robert at their tent for the night. He and Luke set up times for communication and relaying of messages. He hoped Luke would be safe. Stephen was looking for a good night's rest also - he'd had a long day.

Stephen spied Elaine walking through the camp and called out her name. He wasn't sure what he wanted to say to her; he just knew he wanted to talk to her and make sure she was all right. They'd only exchanged those few words outside Miki's tent before she left.

"Sir Stephen," she said, greeting him with a smile while waiting for him to catch up with her.

"Please call me Stephen. Where were you going? May I walk you there?"

"All right, Stephen," she said shyly, ducking her head a little. "I'm headed to the women's tents - the ones near by the medical tents. I've been helping out at the medical tents all night, you know. Ever since I was brought back home, actually." She was practically shuffling off to the tents when Stephen called her. But now she felt wide awake and energized at Stephen's presence. There was a lightness to her body that she could not explain.

"It is very grueling work. Are you sure you have recovered enough from your, um, "journey" to be working there?" he asked.

"It may be hard work, but I am glad to be of service. I would like to earn my keep and not have it given out of pity," Elaine resolutely replied. She was not a poor girl to be pitied, nor would she depend upon another person the way she depended upon Lady Cassandra for her livelihood - just look at how Lady Cassandra had valued her life. Elaine had learned a lot about herself and about the way the world worked in these few days. She was more resilient and resourceful than she'd imagined. And a lot braver.

Stephen looked startled at the hardness in her voice, but she merely shrugged and changed the subject. "How about yourself? I heard about the battle this afternoon. You must be exhausted.

"It was an extremely disheartening battle. We were forced to retreat earlier than we expected. But we will rally our forces together. We also cannot count out the help we may get from England." Stephen sighed and rubbed his forhead. He was tired in both body and spirit. There was so much to do, so much to plan and organize, and yet so little time to do it all. There would be meetings with the commanders tomorrow morning and training in the afternoon - it was endless and he was beginning to despair.

"Stephen, please get some rest," Elaine said worriedly. Stephen did not look as sharp as he normally did, and his shoulders were slumping most unhappily. Despite her eralier bravado, she now wished she had the courage to put her arms around him and soothe his worries away. He carried such a load, and if there was a way to lessen his burden she would do it. She clasped his hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze. "Things will look brighter in the morning light. And I will sleep better knowing you are also. We will speak again tomorrow."

Stephen squeezed her hand back in return. Her gray eyes were looking at him with such concern. He did not know if he, a rough and bruised warrior, deserved these sentiments from a lovely young lady such as her. "Yes, that is a good idea," he said in agreement. "I will look for you in the medical tent? Yes? Then I will bid you a good night." He raised her hand kissed it lightly in farewell.

"Good night," she said softly, and passed under the flap of the tent into a warm and welcoming bed.

***************************

Rafe rose with the dawn. The docks were well fortified against and incoming or outgoing enemies. This morning they were expecting a couple of ships from Norway with more men and reinforcements. They would be several hundreds of men to boosts their ranks on the land.

He was not sure what Greeve and the other commanders had in mind this day, but they would have to spend time regrouping the men and planning their next attack. It would be at least another day before they were ready.

The cool wind blowing in from the sea was a good sign. The boats might reach shore earlier than expected.

Aurora awoke to the sounds of men armoring up and horses prodding about. Morning had come and Phillip had not sent for her, neither had her father for that matter. She found that odd.
Quickly she got up and headed out to Phillip's tent. Before she entered she straitened her doublet, after all she had slept in it. The Prind was not there but her father was standing in the corner waiting for something. She began to appraoch him and he turned to nod at her without a word. But before she got even half way Phillip walked from around the other side of a drape that seemed to blend in with the wall of the tent. It shocked and surprised Aurora for he had no shirt on. She turned facing the other direction completely forgetting that such an action would appear strange to them.
"William. Come help me get his Highness into his Armor."
Aurora turned and walked quickly to her father's side. He handed Phillip a clean blue shirt and then a black doublet. Then it was time for his armor. The three of them worked to get Phillip suited up. There were so many straps on his holding so many plates of armor that Aurora was glad that her father was there. She never would have been able to do it on her own.

When Phillip was done it was her father's turn. Luckily for her though, she knew her father's armor. She had often had to help him in suiting it up. For a moment she felt like herself, back at the palace getting him ready for a special parade. His voice brought her back to reality though.
"You had best go and get your armor on. I would assume you have some?"
"Yes sir."
He sent her off with a wave of his hand and she hurried to Mika and Miki's tent.
"Mika, I need my Armor. Have you seen it?"
"Yes it's in our old tent. Here I'll help you."
Once out of hearing Mika spoke, a worried tone was in her voice.
"You need to be more careful my friend. Miki doesn't know who you are and to have a stranger barge in knowing me might make him wonder where I met you. As you know I can't lie."
"I will be more careful next time."

Mika hurried to put her armor. The army was already assembling to leave.
"Now hurry back to your father."
Aurora did and found him atop his mighty horse next to Phillip. There was a riderless horse beside him and he motioned that it was for her. She mounted up, the horse stepped beneath her. Then a page brought a battle standard tp her. So she would be the one to carry Phillip's standard into the fight. Her heart jumped into her throat.

Robert stood in front of his contigent, dressed in the smattering of armor that had fit him, a sword by his side. Unconciously, he was freezing himself; preparing his mind for another day much like the last battle.

He had killed that day, and he would be killing again. Robert felt that it was a somewhat sad way to grow up. But there was nothing to be done.

The Prince rode out to the head with his standard bearer and Lord Rupert. Prince Philip turned and raised his fist. "For Denmark." he said, face solemn. The men in the lines, Robert and Stephen included repeated the Prince's words in a hushed shout.

"May God be with us." The Prince said, then turned and began to lead the men forward.

***

Luke had made it to Norway's army just before dawn. Tired, but determined, he soon fell in with the group of beggars who followed the army, providing grunt labor in exchange for a bite to eat and perhaps a fire to warm their hands.

Luke was a good actor - Joan would have said a good Liar - and had quickly picked up the accents and shuffling movments of the others he stayed with.

Right now, he was holding the riens for Sir Rafe's horse as the knight approached. Luke kept his face down; not because Rafe would recognize him - they had never met - but because that was the proper thing to do.

"Sir Rafe!" a younger soldier ran up. "A report from the docks just came in. It requires your immediate attention."

The knight frowned; it was time to march to battle, surely his subordinate knew that?

The young knight stepped forward and murmered something low. The only word Luke picked up was "Aurora". A gleam entered his grey eyes, successfully hidden by his hood.

Sir Rafe frowned a little deeper, but nodded and set off after the young soldier on foot. Luke blinked and wondered what to do with the great black warhorse.

Ironfoot leaned forward and nicked the theif's shoulder impatiently. He had been in a rather foul mood since leaving Denmark's castle. Luke jumped and scowled at the beast. "You stay here." he tied Ironfoot to a pike nearby and set off in the direction that he had seen Sir Rafe go in. He'd spied on the knight before; he could do it again.

(OOC: Okay....that's supposed to be the boat that has Joan as the psuedo Lady Aurora...I was just trying to make things move a bit...hope no one minds! ^__^)

Stephen woke up early with the rising of the sun. He quickly washed and grabbed a bite to eat on his way to the commanders' tent. His curly brown hair was getting tousled more and more with the strong wind blowing in from the direction of the sea.

The commanders were already up and planning their next move. They were going to set up a little skirmish in hopes to draw the troops away from the harbor, and maybe if the Norwegians were defeated, Denmark could reclaim the docks.

It was well into the morning when they finished meeting and they would set out within the hour. Stephen suited up in his armor, checked to make sure his sword and shield were in good condition, and went in search of Elaine.

He'd told her he'd meet her at the medical tents, and found her sitting quietly on a battered log a few feet away from the tent. Her dark hair was tied up, but a few strands were blowing loose from under her tidy cap. In one hand was a steaming mug of tea and the other was holding a thick piece of bread. Her dress was more than wrinkled, her apron already stained with blood, dirt and sweat, but her face was clear and bright. She looked so charming and innocent sitting there and heartbreakingly beautiful, especially when her face lit up at his approach. And he'd have to leave her so soon, he thought wistfully.

"Good morning, Elaine," he said in greeting. "Did you rest well last night?"

"Good morning, Stephen," she replied in turn. "I did rest very well, thank you for asking. I can see that you also had a good night. I'm glad." She smiled shyly and looked down at her lap.

"I cannot stay long. As you can well see, we are marching out again. More blood and death today. You won't have it easy either if you insist on working at these tents." He spoke harshly, wondering if he was trying to scare her away from her work or from him.

"I know what I'm doing. I want to help in any way that I can. And if it's here in the medical tents, then I'm honored to be here," she said with a quiet dignity. "I won't detain you any longer," she said gesturing to the men beginning to form ranks. She stood abruptly and straightened. Her clear gray eyes looked right into his, down to his soul. "I just hope you come back safely, Stephen," she said softly, and turned and walked back into the tents.

Stephen stood still, silently watching her retreating figure. After she entered, he went to join the men. He found Robert standing with his contingent of men. "I'll be joining you today. Let's hope God and luck are with us today."

******************************

Rafe had gotten word from his scouts and spies that Denamrk was getting ready for another battle today. After their defeat yesterday, Rafe had thought they'd stay behind to lick their wounds for at least another day or two. Well, if that's what they want, that's what they'll get, Rafe told himself. Besides he had enough men to ride out and fight and with more than enough left over to hold the docks.

Rafe wanted to be at the docks personally to greet the men coming in from Norway, but the opportunity to crush Denmark was too tempting. So he ordered the guards to watch out for any ships entering the docks. Those ships were to be held closely until word could be sent to Rafe.

He'd suited up and motioned for some man to hold Ironfoot while he mounted. Just then a messenger came running towards him. "A report from the docks just came in. It requires your immediate attention." Rafe grimaced in irritation. The ships from norway could not have come in that quickly. They were obviously hailing him for a useless reason. He beckoned the man over. "What is it?" he asked, harassed.

The soldier beckoned him lower, and after a few seconds Rafe complied, for the idiot man would not begin otherwise. Rafe soon found out that it was fortunate he did. Apparently the ship that had come in was from England. They were carrying a letter from the Lady Aurora. This was very interesting.

Rafe dismounted at once. He thrust Ironfoot's reins into the hands of the nearest soldier and then set off towards his headquarters.

Meeting him there was the portly ship's captain who was carrying the Lady Aurora's message to be delivered. The captain immediately began proclaiming his innocence - he did not know who gave him the letter, nor what the letter was about. He was only a poor ship's captain hoping to sell some cloth and spices on the mainland.

Rafe listened to all this in impatience. They were getting nowhere questioning this man. The passengers of the ship were, of course, placed under heavy guard until further notice. He sent everyone away and opened the letter.

"Robert,

It's Joan. I hope you're doing well. But I have a huge confession to make - Aurora is not in England anymore and I have been posing as Aurora this entire time. Aurora and Mika left in the middle of the night to go back home to Denmark. I had to pretend to be Aurora otherwise England would refuse to help us. It's been awful, but I have somehow managed to convice the King and Prince to come to Denmark's aid. They will be sending help soon.

Aurora should be in your camp by now. Please find her and makr sure she is all right. I'll be sailing home on the next ship and I hope you will be there to receive me. Don't be angry with Aurora, she only did it because she was so worried about everyone. I hope to see you soon.

-Joan"

Rafe grinned widely after he finished reading the letter. This was better than he hoped. The Lady Aurora running loose in Denmark's camp, unknown and hidden, while the imposter Aurora was sailing home. He'd have to find the real Aurora and take her, but this Joan would also have a reception greater than she'd imagined.

(*MLG - I hope the letter is what you wanted.)

The taste of the sweet hot liquid filled her mouth...Joan could only imagine when she would be able to drink some of her father's cider, or have some of the simple fare at the Savage Wolf again. And standing there, on the side of the ship, watching England disappear in the early morning sun, that was all she could think about. She didn't even hear the footsteps approaching her.

"My Lady?" said a voice.

Joan in her dreamy state, did not realise that the voice spoke to her.

"Joan!" it whispered in her ear and she sprang to attention.

"Yes?" she said, turning around to face John. She hadn't seen him that morning, and was surprised to find him there. "John! What are you doing here?"

"I'm coming with you, remember?" he said, smiling. "I told the king I wished to take leave of court to go study in Denmark and he sent me along with you. I was just speaking to the captain, and he thinks we should be arriving tomorrow morning in the port. Isn't that wonderful?"

Joan was uneasy with him, he followed her around all day, attending to her every whim and desire. It annoyed her that he was so attached to her. And by nightfall she couldn't take it anymore.

"Mr. Steward! Would please go off and do your own business? I am not your wife, nor your fiancee, nor are we courting. In case you had not noticed, I do not need your help and am entirely capable of doing things on my own."

He gave her a look of anger, bowed low and turned to leave swiftly. It did feel good to be the old Joan again, even if she was stuck in someone else's life.

((sorry, this is kinda a bad post, I'm in a hurry, have a bio exam tomorrow! Hey, do any of you have msn?))

The ride to the front had been nearly forgotten. Aurora must have been in a semi-unconsciouse state for she suddenly found herself at one end of an open plain. Phillip now rode up and down the lines.

"Be of good hearts my friends! Today we shall achieve a great vistory because we are fighting for our freedom! We are all in God's hands and His grace is upon us!" He drew his sword and raised it high into the air. "For our home!"

A great cheer went up from the lines. Aurora gulped, her heart now in her throat. Then the line surged forward. Aurora tried to keep in line with the others but found it difficult as the banner constantly waved in her face.

The earth went by in a blur. Then she heard the whinny of distant horses and saw before them the charging lines of the Norse army. In an instant there was great commotion as the two armies fell against each other. Aurora was somewhat secluded from it as she was the standard barer. Even off to the side it was more than she could take. The carnage grew with every slash of the sword.

"Retreat!" her father's voice rose above the clash and screams. Slowly Denmark's army pulled back. Aurora's horse was turned around by a young soldier taking her reins. For a moment she saw the fallen form of Phillip, or was it? The body was mostly hidden by a horse that lay dead upon it. She would have to wait untill they returned to camp to be sure he was alright.

(sorry to move so fast. I am feeling very uncreative at the moment. Please no one find Phillip yet, I need Aurora to do that.)

The fight was just as bloody and hard as Robert knew it would be. When the cry for a retreat came up, Robert's sword was bloody and his blond hair pasted to his face and neck both with sweat and blood.

As he ran from the battlefield, part of him felt chagrined. Would this continue? Would they try to face the enemy, only to run later? A slight sense of hopelessness began to grow; what would become of Denmark if this continued?

Luke was wedge next to a hut, a small hole against his ear. The murmers were low and he could only catch maddening murmers, when a voice rose.

"This is a perfect chance. With Lady Aurora in our grasp, we have a leverage against both the prince and Lord Rupert. Something that will be beneficial to us."

Luke blinked. Lady Aurora...Lady Aurora...He couldn't remember the name...oh, yes, now he remembered. Robert sometimes spoke of her; she was one of the few nobles who had acknowledged his existence and had been friendly about it.

"It will be a risky venture. If they find out the truth..."

"And how could they do that?"

Luke frowned. Truth? Movements in the hut alerted him and he crept away. At least he would have soemthing for Stephen tonight...

The army made it back to the camp. Aurora dismounted and looked wildly around for any sign of Phillip. To no reasurance she did not see him.
"His Highness is missing!" The cry went up through the ranks. Everyone went into a panic.
Quickly Rupert called all of the commanders together, including Stephen to organize a search party. Aurora knew that it would be to late. The night had fallen and the temperature was dropping quickly. If not found, Phillip would surely die of hypothermia.
There was only one option, go out now. But if a whole host of men went out another battle would most likely start. Aurora made up her mind to go alone.
She hurried to her father's tent and found his heavy fur cloak. If Phillip was seriously injured she might not be able to move him. At least she could keep him warm. Wrapping the cloak tightly around her and grabbing a flask of water she walked to the edge of the camp. To her surprise there were no guards so she slipped away unknowtist.

The field was still. No sound rose from the ground and no movement. It looked so different in the dark. How was she going to find him? She stopped and thought. They had come in a straight line. If she moved ahead without turning she could look around on either side and might spot him. She walked down the field all the while looking to either side of her but there was nothing. She noticed in the ground that the footprints and hoofprints were now headed the other way, she was on the enemy's side. Slowly she turned back and was about to give up when she saw a huge shadowy mass to her right. It looked like a horse. She headed for it, moved around to its side and low and behold there was Phillip lying underneath unconscious.
"Phillip?" her voice came anxiously.
There was no movement. As quick as she could she moved the horse off of him. Nothing looked to serious. The soft ground had molded about him, causing him to not be totally crushed by the animal. She pulled him up and proped him against the carcus. Then she wrapped the cloak around him to keep him warm.
"Phillip?" she tried again. This time his head moved, his eyes flickered and he tried to see her.
"William?" His voice was nothing more than a whisper.
"No it's me."

(OOC: Hey, just a note, my bro was following along with this and I was talking to him about Robert one day and he came up with this whole cast of Irish clan of soldiers/knights. Anyway, they were such a fun group, that I thought it would be kinda nice to put them in here and maybe one of them takes up Robert's knight training again. So...yeah...hope you don't mind the intrustion)

Philip frowned, confusion clouding his all ready painful head further. "Wha...?" he half-closed his green eyes as a tear fell down his rescuer's cheek. "Aurora? How..?" the prince asked weakly.

***

Robert sat outside the medical tent, holding a wounded arm. It wasn't bad; just a long cut that wasn't very deep. The bleeding had all ready stopped and although it throbbed, Robert was content to wait till those more seriously wounded had gotten attention first.

A group of tall, broad shouldered men with odd clothing and armor passed by, carrying a protesting comrade with them. A tall thin man in black robes followed.

"I don't need ta see one of them butchers!" the wounded man was saying loudly. The man leading the group scowled at him.

"Stop yer complain', Kirin. You are seein' a healer about that leg. Or would ya prefer our dear Father to see to you instead."

The man in black robes smiled a little bit sinesterly. Robert blinked; somehow it seemed out of place for a priest to smile like that.

Kirin quieted down and they carried him into the tent, exiting a few moments later. Robert watched them cautiously with wide blue eyes, then jumped a little when the lead man turned and addressed him.

"Oi, lassie, do you know where a Sir Stephen would be?"

Robert felt his cheeks flush. "Yes I do know. And I'm not a girl."

"Eh?" the man bent over and looked at him. "Stand up."

Robert obeyed. the man blinked and leaned on his spear. "Well, I'll be." he stated, brown eyes twinkling in amusment. The men behind him laughed.

"Well, I apologize, lad. But we'd be grateful to see Sir Stephen. We're to help him train some of the non-fighters so that there's not so much slaughter." the man cocked his head and looked at Robert apprasingly. "I'd be Aiden, head of the Clan McBride. What name to they call ye, lad?"

"Robert."

Aiden nodded. "Well, then Robert. Lead the way."

Luke had crept to the edge of the clearing and activated the mirror. 'Come on Stephen, answer me...'
