Eomer's grin widened. "Nothing to hard, my lady. I only ask that you go to the watch station to the north of the hill. I am anxious for Faolan to return with Merry. You may watch as long as you wish, as long as someone is there to take your place. I don't wish you to be away to long."
His eyes had a mischievious glow in them, and his lips turned up at the corners, making him look perfectly naughty.

Just as the interlude had begun, it was ended with a man coming through the hallway. "My lord, I. . . " He stopped short, seeing what was taking place. "Oh, I'm sorry. I'll just. . ."

"Nay, Hasugar. It is all right. What do you wish?"
"Well, I. . ." Hasugar looked down at his feet, not sure if he wanted to do this or not.
"I'm sorry, my lord, but my thoughts are scattered now. Perhaps later."
"Whenever you wish, captain. My ears are always open."

Eomer watched Hasugar leave. What is going on? Has he heard murmurings of other men? Alas that these evil days should be mine.

He quickly shoved the troubling thoughts away. He looked at Terry, his eyes taken by her beauty again. "Ever we are drawn apart, my love. That is the price I pay for being a king. It grieves my heart." He pulled her to him and kissed her forehead. "Soon, we shall no longer be parted." He released her, and with a smile, left her.

She smiled, watching him walk for a moment. She then turned to walk to the other end of the hall, to go into her room and change so that she could go and do his bidding.

She ran into Tasar on the way down the hall - literally - and smiled politely. Tasar merely nodded, her eyes distant... she obviously had something on her mind. Though, from the slight from on her forehead, Terry could tell that it was not a good thing. She grasped Tasar by the shoulders, staring into her eyes for a moment. Tasar blinked and looked away, and this startled Terry more than she had previously been. Tasar released herself from Terry's grasp and flew down the hallway, the skirt of her gown billowing out behind her in her speed to get away. Terry frowned, watching her until she drifted out of sight, and walked into her room.

Moments later, Terry was walking out of the hall, the wind blowing her hair behind her. She smiled, glad to be out in the sunshine, and took the leisurely stroll to the wall and the tower, which she eagerly climbed. She looked out over her treasured plains, a small smile on her face.

Hasugar was well on his way back to his chambers, trying to push away the scene he had just viewed. He was so embarrassed about having come upon his lord in such bad timing.

Just as he began to open the door and go inside, he heard Eomer's voice call out to him. "Hasugar, come here. Your king needs you." He let out a heavy sigh. He probably wants to talk about what just happened. Not at all looking forward to the conversation, he turned on his heel and headed in the direction of the voice.

It wasn't long until he found Eomer, sitting at a table in a side chamber. "My king, you called for me." He bowed, trying to hide his discomfort.

"Yes, I did. I wanted to know what it is you wanted to speak to me about."

"Lord, I apologize if I interr-"
"There is nothing to forgive. You were no trouble. I was just speaking with the Lady Terry."
Hasugar looked at Eomer.
"Shut the door."
Hasugar did so.
"Your timing was a little off, I'll admit, but you shouldn't feel so uncomfortable. We were only talking."
"I suppose so, my king."
A brief silence fell between them, until Eomer spoke again.
"Now, what is it you wanted to tell me?"
Hasugar hesitated, not sure if he was ready to disclose what was on his mind.
"Speak."
"Well, my lord," he cleared his throat, "The matter is. . . well, we. . . that is, the captains. . . I've heard them speaking against you."
Eomer's eyes widened, then a frown wrinkled his brow.
"You weren't exactly forthcoming in what we are to do, and so on, and they. . . they think you are hiding something from them. But I swear to you, my king, that I spoke not a word of it. Your word is more than good enough for me, and I know when the time is ripe, you will tell us all."
"It does me good to hear you say that. I knew such a thing would happen. I will pay their words no mind, unless they become tainted with treason or desertion."
"You are not angry, sire?"
"No.Aggitated, yes, but angry, no. Let the captains blow. I will only take action if their words become dangerous."
"You are wise lord."
"Am I?" Eomer laughed.
Shortly afterward, Hasugar left the room, and left Eomer to think on all these things.

Nenuvar had put away her horse, and was standing outside the barn, doing absolutely nothing. It seemed as if she came to early. She was not needed yet.Already she felt a twinge of homesickness and worry. Were her parents yet alive? She was deep in her thoughts, until she saw someone walk by.

It was a lady of Rohan, but dresses for war, like herself. Nenuvar had a idea. She walked over to where the woman went, and looked up at the tower. Sure, go ahead, She said to herself. She qiuckly walked up the steps, and when she reached the top, she spotted the lady.

She walked up to her. " Hello, may I ask your name?"She said timidly, as if she was shy. But in reality she wasnt.

Terry turned to the - rather shy - woman and smiled brightly. She offered a slightly scarred hand in a friendly manner and answered, "I am Terry. The lady warrior, as some call me."

She took the opportunity to take in the appearance of the other woman. She was obviously a warrior, like herself, and this impressed her immensely. It seemed as though more leaders were accepting women into their armies, and Terry thought now that things were finally starting to look up. She still received the occasional not-so-pleasant comment regarding her position, but she was enjoying it too much to really take notice of them.

Nenuvar smiled, losing her shyness. The woman was welcoming, ans that made her let down her guard.

"Hello, I am Nenuvar. That's my only name," She said, smiling.

Nenuvar regarded this lady, dressed for war, and a strong one indeed. As she shook her hand, Nenuvar noticed some scars, but decided to say nothing. Nenuvar turned and looked out over the plains of Rohan. "Were you born here?" She sadi, to start some conversation.

Terry nodded and released the other woman's hand from her grasp. "Indeed I was. My parents own a small cottage near the eastern wall." She made a gesture in the general direction of her home.

"My father is a blacksmith; he makes many of the weapons for the Rohirrim." She gloated a bit over her father's position whenever she could, but made certain that she did not boast to too great of an extent.

Nenuvar let go of her hand. Smiling, she said, "Well, I'm from Gondor, as you can tell by my armour. She glanced over toward the direction she came from.A distant look came over her face. "My parents didn't really approve of me being a warrior. But I think they understand." She turned and smiled at the lady.

Terry nodded in understanding. "My mother did not approve of my position at first - she was, understandably, worried for her 'little girl.'" She then chuckled. "My father, on the other hand, more than approved of it. He always thought of me as the son he never had. I suppose this just cemented that mentality."

She raised a curious eyebrow. "What brings you to Rohan, my lady? I love the land dearly, but is Gondor not much more exciting for a warrior?" She then remembered. "Oh. You must be here about the raid, then." That brought her thoughts to Eomer, and her features took on a wistful expression at the thought of getting to see him at the end of the day.

"Gondor's not that exciting, now that evil has basically been diminished there. But the work is here now." She said, noticing the look on the girls face. "What? She asked, turning her head and giving the lady a sidelong glace." What is it?"

Terry blinked in surprise at being caught in her thoughts. She shook her head, resting against the wooden rail that served as a wall to the tower before her. "Nothing of importance. Merely someone I cannot wait to see." She smiled and looked over at the other woman. "Tell me, if it is not too personal, do you have a gentleman waiting for you back at home?"

" A gentleman!" She said, raising her eybrwos in shock. Why would anyone think she would have someone else than her immediate family whom she loved? Strange."No." She said blankly, and then realized more of a reply was needed."I never have, but I wish to.Its not too personal since there is nobody." She added with a chuckle."Why?"

Terry shrugged and smiled lightly. "I rather enjoy getting to know my comrades better. Especially the females," she explained with a happy sort of tone. Thinking of Eomer brought a light out of her that was otherwise hidden in the shadow of the great warriors she was constantly surrounded by.

One corner of her mouth tilted upwards. "You say you would wish to have a gentleman?" She chuckled slightly and glanced over at the other woman. "I know plenty. I could introduce you to one, if you wish it."

Meanwhile, at the Golden Hall. . .

Hasugar wasn't on duty, so he went outside to collect his thoughts. So much was happening, so quickly, and it wasn't exactly to his liking. War talk was rampant among the people, when great wars had already been fought. Not to mention the sacrifice of his men.

His men.

The words made his throat constrict. Men that he had honored, respected. . . gone. Leaving grieving widows and fatherless children behind. It wasn't right, or fair.

For a seasoned warrior, it was just a job, but when someone is lost, it becomes more. It's not possible to not be emotionally involved. The suffering. . . the stench of death all around. . . it was enough to make any man empty the contents of his stomach.

All of these thoughts clouded his mind, until he heard something flapping in the wind behind him. Usually, he would have dismissed it as the flags blowing int the wind, but his thoughts made him instinctively reach for his sword. He was relieved when he saw the fair elven maiden whom he had seen earlier.
"Apologies, Lady Tasar. T'was a thoughtless reaction." He bowed, his leg thouroughly protesting to the action.

Tasar waved a hand, clearly not caring for the chivalry this man was showing her. "Nonsense. I have been a warrior myself long enough to quite understand such a reaction. Apologies are not needed."

Smoothing out the folds of her gown, she moved to stand beside him. "I wonder what the Lord Eomer has planned as a rebuttal to this attack," she said, almost to herself. "One would hope that he plans to attack soon." Glancing over at Hasugar, she watched for a reaction to alert her of his knowing anything of Eomer's plans.

*Foal yawned as she curled up on a pallet of comfy blankets Merry's wife had laid down in their small hobbit den. If Foal had stretched out she was almost twice as long as the small blankets. The hobbit wife Maggie may be stern with Merry from time to time, but she had a heart of gold.

Maggie threw another blanket about Foal and stroked her mane of long brown locks. "A big child that dear is," Maggie said with a smile. "And so much war she has seen," The hobbit wife conitnued on as she left the room shaking her head. Foal had fallen asleep almost as soon as she hit the blankets. The long journey had taken a lot out of her. She need to get some undisturbed rest to make it all the way back to Meduseld.*

Hasugar tried to keep the shock from showing on his face. What was this maiden up to? Had she been talking with the men? Was she some sort of spy? He knew his vigillance must not slacken. He must be guarded in his conversation. Even if she wasn't snooping around for the other men, it was better to be safe than sorry.

"Well," he began, clearing his throat,"I think he wants to be prepared. As much as possible. Not many men have come. Not many are left after Pellenor. We are gathering our full strenght. Then we will ride to Minas Tirith, and escort Gondor's men back with us."

* yo de ho ho....sorry about the delay. And yes. I do care )*

Merry propped his feet up on one the stools, matted tufts of chestnut curling at the toes whilst, with a pipe in hand and eying the smoke quite languidly, the hobbit's lips crinkled into a smile. " Ah Maggie, hospitable as always my dear" he noted fondly, dark eyes glowing with wistful warmth as they rested on the portly, but gentil poise of his wife as she stumbled back through the door. " She'll take good tales back with her that one...can find some tales of me own 'opefully" Merry mused, voice doused with eagerness as his eyes darted to the parchment spread over the main bracken table. Unable to keep the excitement from his voice the steward, swinging his legs from of the stool, skipped towards his wife, gabbed her palms and grinned manically. " I'm off on me travels, no more same old same old, its adventure for me - me and Pippin like in our youth again! Oh Mag won't you be so proud eh?" he urged earnestly, eyes soft as they bored into her rosey, pretty face. " Come now, I'll be back...soon enough. Chin up pet, my love'll never wane...and you'll have the children to keep yer busy!" he chuckled wistfully, light golden curls flopping over his forehead so that then, cloaked in the shroud of anticipation, he looked no younger then when the War of the Ring had only just begun.

Tasar smiled slightly. This man's reaction was predictable, yet she thought he knew her to be trustworthy. Perhaps not. She turned to him with a raised eyebrow. "That seems to simple for Eomer's mind. He must have thought of something a bit more elaborate than that." She shrugged slightly and turned to walk away. "But, if you care not to tell me, I suppose I can handle my curiousity."

Terry grinned at the other woman's reaction, lightened by the thought of making a new friend. "I will at dinner this evening."

Hasugar looked down at his feet. "It's not that I don't wish to tell you, for you need to be as informed as I, but. . ." he paused, choosing his words carefully, "the men are talking badly about the king as it is. Rumors would only make it worse." He looked up into Tasar's beautiful eyes. "Surely you understand my caution." A smile played on his lips, something he'd not done since. . . it happened. He felt like a babbling idiot in the presence of this elven maiden, but he knew elves sometimes had that affect on people.

A strange people, to be sure. So refined, so elegent. . . so perfect. he mused.

Turning slowly back to him, she nodded once in understanding and approval. "You are a noble man indeed, to protect your king as such under - pressing circumstances."

Looking out to the sky once more, she frowned a bit at the sight far out on the horizon. "It looks like rain," she said softly. "A storm, perhaps." She sighed softly. "I had best go warn Terry so she does not get caught in the mess." Glancing once more over at Hasugar, she smiled softly. "Would you care to join me? She is just at the north watch tower."

*Foal opened her eyes slowly and stared into the small fireplace in front of her face. Her eyes became wide and she felt confused and she jumped up on her feet with her blanket falling to the ground. As she jumped up and tried to figure out where she was, her head crashed into the unusually low ceiling with a thud. Foal yelped as the force of the ceiling threw her back down to the ground on her knees.

Maggie and Merry ran in to the den to see what had made the loud sound. Foal forced a smile through her grimace. She sat on her legs rubbing the top of her head. "I woke up and forgot where I was. I jumped up into your ceiling and it knocked some sense into me real quick. Oh my head..." she whined almost childlike. "I am going to have a knot there and I wont be able to where a helm for week!"

Maggie had her arms folded and shook her head while Merry just laughed. Foal carefully stood up and folded the blankets and laid them on a small chair in the den. As she made her way out she playfully punched Merry in the arm. "It isn't funny you filthy little shireling!" she said in mock anger. But she couldnt suppress a smile. "I guess we ought to pack up our things. Meduseld calls me and it is very far ride, especially for ponies." **

A slight blush came to Hasugar's cheeks at the lady's compliment. "Thank you, milady. You are to kind."

He turned his eyes out toward the sky. "I think you are right, it does look like a storm is coming. I would gladly join you, but I'm afraid my duties start again soon. Perhaps another time." He bowed, taking his leave. "I shall see you at the evening meal, milady." He smiled warmly and left to find the King.

Merry, infused with the memoirs of glory and commeradship, didn't need telling twice. Bolting out from where they stood, the hobbit scampered to his bed chamber, yanking creased wollen shirts and shoving them in a messy bundle in the little sack thrown across his shoulder. Shaking his golden tousled head and darting a quick, furvative glance about the disordered heap of books and staffs strewn over the floor, offered his wife a sheepish, quite charming little grin." Gotta listen to the woman 'ere" he jabbed a finger through the air at Foal and shrugged, shuffling from one foot to the other, as impatient as in his youth. His eyes strayed to the dotted, peachy sky, veiled with the memories of Eomer's hall, of Frodo and Gandalf...of war.

*Foal continued to rub her head as she restuffed her saddle bags. The now raised lump smarted a good deal and Foal growled through her teeth. She stepped out of the little hobbit hole door and walked over to the saddle on the fence. She put a hand above her eyes to block the sun as she searched for her horse.

Across the the small road, a hobbit neighbor was sweeping his stone entry way. Foal began to whistle and call Agarwaen and the hobbit looked over. His eyes widened a bit at seeing Foal, a big person. He gave a disapproving look and shook his head. He continued to sweep still shaking his head and murmuring to himself.

After a few minutes a clip clop of hooves could be heard. Agarwaen trotted up and nickered. "Did you have a good graze?" Foal asked him as she patted his neck. She saddled him up, tied on her bags, and tethered him to the fence.

After Foal had everything together, she went back inside to get Merry. He wasn't in the kitchen or den that Foal could see so she stayed in the entry way and called. "Sir, Merry? Are you ready? It's time we started on." Merry and his wife appeared, the wife still looking a bit unhappy about the abrupt leaving of her husband.

Foal knelt down in front of the hobbit wife (and still being taller at a kneel) and hugged Maggie. "Thank you for your hospitality. I assure you I will personally make sure this scallywag gets back to you in one piece." Foal then stood back up, careful of the low ceiling, and exited the hobbit home. She shouldered her bow and mounted Agarwaen. The big sorrel half reared and whinnied. He had clearly regained all his energy and more. "I swear Agarwaen, if I come back to the shire and see a fiery sorrel foal next to a hobbit pony I am going to have you gelded." **

Tasar nodded and smiled. "Most definitely." As Hasugar walked away, she began to walk out to the north tower.

Terry looked down from the top of the tower and saw Tasar walking towards it. Grinning, she turned to face the direction she was coming from. "Lady Tasar, there must be something of great importance to make an elf such as yourself come all the way out here to see me." Grinning in playfulness at her comment, she chuckled.

Tasar rolled her eyes. "Yes, indeed. Merely that I thought you would like to know that in another couple hours a storm will be well upon you. I presume that you would not enjoy being caught in said storm, hm?"

Terry laughed. "I live to be caught in storms, Tasar, and now you have ruined it for me." She frowned. "My day is completely ruined now, because of you. I hope you are happy." A twitch of her lips indicated the jest in her statement.

Tasar, easily looking pleading in a convincing manner, went down upon her knees and held her arms before her. "Please, will you ever forgive me?"

Terry waved a hand and sighed. "Yes, alright. Just go back to the Hall before you are caught in the storm and ruin your fancy elvish garment." The last three words she said in a very nasal voice, and grinned as she finished them.

Tasar stood, nodded once with a smile on her face, and walked back up to the tower.

Nenuvar tried not to stare. An elf? She was always fasicnated by them. She smiled at the joke, noticing that elves DO have a sense of humor after all. When the elf walked away, she turned to Terry. "What was her name?" She asked, getting uneasy as she herself hated to be caught in storms.

Sitting alone in his chamber, Eomer thoughts conflicted in his mind. Still unsure of what to do, he turned his thoughts back to the number of men he had. A few more had come, but their number was still probably not five hundred as he had hoped for.

Even if Aragorn could give us five hundred men, it may not be enough.

A knock on the door brought him back to Middle-earth.

"Yes."

Hasugar poked his head in. "My lord, the evening meal is ready."
"Oh. Of course. I'll be out in a minute."

When the door was shut, Eomer took off some of his heavy armour, until he wore only his kingly underclothes and his sword, Guthwine, about his waiste.

He washed his hands and face in the water basin.

I hope I'm fit for a lady's eyes. He thought, leaving his room.

The evening meal being ready, Terry and her newfound friend had made their way back to the Golden Hall. Terry had had just enough time to wash her face and comb her hair before arriving in the dinner hall. She located Tasar immediately who, as a guest, was seated in a place of relative honor. Sitting to her left, Terry glanced around, but did not see Eomer for he had not yet arrived.

Hasugar waited by the door to announce King Eomer. A formality, he knew, and one that Eomer was not fond of, but still. . . .

The flickering light of the fire pit and the fire cauldrons gave an soft orange glow to the golden embellished hall. At the head table sat the Elven maiden, Tasar, and close to her Lady Terry, the Gondorian, Lady Nenuvar, and a few of the commanders of their small army. All had been invited, but most had stayed with the men. Rude was putting it lightly. Refusing an invitation from the king himself!!! It made Hasugar's neck hairs bristle in anger.

At the creak of the door behind him, he bolted to attention. "His Majesty, the King." All in the room stood to honor him. In he strode, King Eomer, son of Eomund, most famous of the riders of the Mark, Theoden's successor. The King.

"Hail, King Eomer," uttered a few solitary voices. Not quite the reception he had hoped for.

Eomer leaned close to Hasugar's ear. "Where are the others?" The aggitation in his voice was obvious. "My lord, it is rumored they refused to come."
His brow furrowed until it was a solid black line. His eyes burned with fury. But his guests were waiting. He would have to deal with this later.

"Hail and well met ,friends." He sat down at the head of the table, next to Terry, his gaze never leaving hers. "Let's begin. Brake out the ale!"

Terry grinned as the servants began to walk around with the pitchers of ale. Having her mug filled, she raised it silently towards Eomer and took a gulp.

Tasar, beside her, was not so enthusiastic about her drink. She brought the mug up to her nose and took a whiff, hiding a look of disgust. Terry glanced over at her and smiled and Tasar faked a smile back, raising her mug in Terry's general direction and taking as as small a sip as possible, trying not to cough the vile liquid back up.
