Niela watched with open mouth as Navinai had said the very things she had planned to say to Lothiriel before leaving, but with with much more venom.

It seemed strange that she should have ever believed the story. Not long ago when Navinai had told her of it, she had swallowed his tale so readily. It had all seemed so true... and right.

But now here in the hall with Eomer glowering in righteous indignation and Ramo with a blazing anger kept barley in check in her eyes, it seemed nothing could be more absurd.

As the guards escorted Navinai out, Niela still felt an odd pain. Even if he had been speaking falsely, perhaps he did not really know. Perhaps he had deceived even himself.

What she felt for him now was difficult to explain. Not love exactly, not now. More of a bittersweet memory of feeling truly wanted and cared for by someone if only for a short time.

It was as if last night she had passed over a barrier and begun something new. She had wrestled with her feelings, passed them by and accepted what had come to pass.
It was simply not meant to be.

She watched curiously detached as Eomer turned back to Lothriel ready to exchange vows and the way the young rider Namain smiled at Ramo, and she thought of what might have been.

o O (Yeah!! Posts abound. Ack!! Fudgesicle on the keyboard-not good)

Navinai barely resisted and instead watche Niela. Her eyes had changed as she looked at him. No longer was there the devotion that he had seen as early as the night before, something different. He would have to speak with her. The guards forcibly put him in his quarters and stationed themselves one within the room and the other outside the door.

****************************************************

Ramo avoided the eyes of everyone in the hall as she sat down on the bench next to Namian. Her face flushed with embarassment and shame. She reached for the Riders hand and gripped it tightly in her own. The young haindmaiden was surprised that Lothiriel had not spoken but now was neither the time nor the place for anymore discussions. There was a Union to be preformed.

As he heard the doors close behind the guards, and without taking his eyes off Lothiriel's, Eomer released one of his beloved's hands. Holding it towards the First Marshall, he felt the cold metal of the gold-and-silver wrought ring placed in the palm.

Closing his hand, he warmed it for just a second, and then placing it on Lothiriel's finger, the King of Rohan spoke.

"With this ring I thee wed,
This gold and silver I thee give,
I receive thee as mine;
Thou art my wife and I, thy husband."

Lifting her hand, Eomer kissed it gently, and then waited.

**************************

Surreptitiously, Namian kept glancing around him, and Ramo, half-listening to his King. She was holding his hand so tightly, the young Rider knew she was still greatly upset... but could only return the pressure, giving what comfort he might.

In the pause between vows, Namian leaned closer to his love. "I am here!" he whispered, "I'm not going anywhere - ever!" and smiled into Ramo's eyes.

Lothiriel paused and looked at the ring on her finger. Smiling, she took the ring that was to be Eomer's and placed it on his finger. Her face radiated such joy that it seemed that she would never be as happy again as at this moment.

" With this ring, I thee wed,
This gold and silver I thee give,
I receive thee as mine;
Thou art my husband, and I thy wife."

A small tear fell down her cheek but it was a tear of joy. Smiling, she bowed to receive the crown from the First Marshall. He placed it delicately upon her head and as the light danced on the gold and gems, Aragorn said:

"I present to you the Queen Lothiriel of Rohan. Obey her, submit to her, love and esteem her and she shall do the same to you in return! Hail the Queen Lothiriel!"

Lothiriel rose and smiling, wrapped her arms around Eomer and kissed him. Pausing, she whispered,

"I love you so much!" and she kissed him again.

The royal couple turned to face the crowd and they applauded, whistled and yelled, " Hail the King and Queen!" As Lothiriel and Eomer walked down the aisle arm in arm, Lothiriel smiled widely at her father who returned it and nodded to various people. As the couple passed, the people bowed reverently before them. Reaching the doors to the outside of the Golden Hall, they paused as guards opened them wide. Walking outside, trumpets blared and heralds proclaimed, " All hail the King and Queen!"

Eomer and Lothiriel stood and looking down at the people gathered, they smiled and waved. Lothiriel looked upon Eomer again and kissed him once more. Breaking the kiss, she laughed as she had not before, she felt so at peace, so young.

o O (Ladies if I can have your prayers they would be much appreciated. I went to the Dr. today and got some not-so-good news.)

Ramo smiled at Namian's promise and turned her attention back to the ceremony. It was preformed perfectly with such emotion that it brought tears to her eyes. Perhaps one day she would have the chance to speak those words. She glanced at Namian. He was looking at her and she blushed before quickly turning away. Maybe even with him by her side. When Lothiriel was presented to the people she stood and shouted with the rest. Her heart was glad that her King had found someone to share his life with.

(( Absolutely, LizzyB!!! ))

Eomer and Lothiriel stood and looking down at the people gathered, they smiled and waved. Lothiriel looked upon Eomer again and kissed him once more. Breaking the kiss, she laughed as she had not before, she felt so at peace, so young.

As his new wife laughed, so did Eomer... with a joy and happiness he'd not thought possible. He knew - only from the planning, that behind them, the First Marshall had escorted Niela out... followed by the King of Gondor.

But, this was their Day... Lothiriel's Day... and for Eomer, there was no one else in the world who held his attention. Yes... he'd smiled at Imrahil... and Eowyn... and winked briefly at Namian standing next to Ramo's side... but mostly, the faces they'd passed had been little more than a blur.

Too much in Eomer King's heart did Lothiriel's words ring: "I love you so much!"

And now, he was her husband... and she, his wife. Queen, yes... and Rohan rejoiced with him. Not since his Aunt's death had there been a Queen in this country... and to see Lothiriel greeted so warmly was more than any King could ask of his people.

Yet, even as they laughed, Eomer swept his beloved... his wife, into a tight hug. Gazing down at her, he took Lothiriel's face gently into his hands. "I love you, Lothiriel!" he said softly, and as the crowds cheered further, he bent down and kissed her.

With a final Royal wave from them both, Eomer then led Lothiriel back inside, for the Grand Reception... and a Feast unlike any held in Rohan since that of his own Coronation those many years ago...

*************************************

Namian saw Ramo's blush, and bit his lip as he added his own cheers for their King and new Queen. Yet, he, too, reddened when Eomer passed by, and on rising from his bow, the young Rider saw his wink.

While they waited for all the dignitaries to exit before them, Namian once more took hold of Ramo's hand. When it was 'clear' enough though, he smiled, and nodded at the front.

Namian knew Lihtfota needed to get to the Reception... and she didn't have long... but with Ramo in tow, he went to greet their Minstrel-friend.

"Your playing was marvelous!" Namian smiled. "You and Lady Eowyn were the perfect 'touch'!"

And, gently pulling Ramo closer to his side, Namian happily put his arm around her. No, she didn't love him - yet... and perhaps, she never would. But for now... the young Rider's heart was full to just have Ramo near on this most joyous of Days...

[OOC: You have them, LizzyB.]

Lihtfota had been shocked when Navinai made his absolutely unfounded accusation, but decorum had said she remained where she was, though she would much rather have jumped up and confronted the man there and then in Ramo’s defense. It was with relief that she realised neither Lothriel, nor her father believed his lies, and the ceremony was to continue.

Ramo and Namian approached, and she realised that they were indeed looking quite happy together. Alright, so perhaps Ramo *had* had… feelings for Eomer, but she seemed to have put them behind her now, and Lihtfota’s heart sang for them both.

"Your playing was marvelous!" Namian smiled. "You and Lady Eowyn were the perfect 'touch'!"

The colour rose ever so slightly in Lihtfota’s cheeks.

“Thanks,” she grinned. “Actually everything was about perfect except for that nasty piece of work – that Navinai… I was so glad noone believed his lies.”

Someone called Lihtfota’s name, and she knew she had to run, but before she took her leave she gave Ramo a mischevious wink.

“I’ll be playing a dance especially for you and Namian, my friend.”

With that, she disappeared into the happy, chattering crowd, resurfacing at the corner of the great hall where the minstrels were just beginning to strike up an infectious dance tune.

o O (Thanks everyone I'm still getting over my shock-but I'm somewhat more accepting)

Ramo nodded her agreement to Namian's words of praise. "It was beautiful. I've never heard you play so well." Lihtfota said something about Navinai and the handmaiden looked away. For some reason she felt as if she could have prevented what had happened. As her friend scurried away she said, “I’ll be playing a dance especially for you and Namian, my friend.” She smiled slightly. "Yes thankyou." When the minstrel had gone she turned to Namian. "I haven't danced in years. I'm quite sure I've forgotten how. Besides after what happened I'm not sure how welcome I will be."

OOC: I hope you'll be alright Lizzy, you have my prayers too.

Lothiriel took Eomer's hand and eagerly led him to the dance floor, almost as excited as a small girl. As they held each other close and danced, Lothiriel took in his smell and how wonderful he made her feel when she was in his arms. Raising her dark eyes to look into his, she commented,

" You look very handsome in green. Perhaps you should wear it more often." Mischief danced in her eyes as they practically floated across the dance floor. The night went on and just when Lothiriel felt she probably would have collapsed if she had to endure one more dance with either her father or a well meaning noble that had asked politely, the minstrels stopped and people filed out, offering their 'Congratulations'. Lothiriel found herself by Eomer once more and after being embraced by her father, who was the last to leave, they headed back down the corridor.

"I have something to show you," Lothiriel said as she hurried into her room. She came out with the tapestry that Ramo had made.

"Isn't it beautiful? Ramo made it for us as a gift. I said I'd hang it above our bed." Looking over the bed, Lothiriel held it up and eyed where she wanted it to go.

"Yes, it will look perfect there." And she hung it up. Turning back to Eomer, she took both of his hands in hers and looking into his eyes, she slowly kissed him. The moonlight played on her hair and the silver beading of her dress and reflected off of Eomer's crown. The sweet smells of the garden wafted in, and Lothiriel paused and trailed her hand down Eomer's crown. A smile flitted across her lips and she kissed him, softly, again.

“I’ll be playing a dance especially for you and Namian, my friend.”

As Lihtfota hurried away, Namian turned a deep red.
"I haven't danced in years. I'm quite sure I've forgotten how. Besides after what happened I'm not sure how welcome I will be."

"Well..." the flush still bright on the young Rider's cheeks, "I'm not that much of a dancer... and I'd probably have you limping before the song was half-over," he said apologetically, "But... if you wanted to..."

Yet, it was Ramo's final words that had Namian shaking his head. "You would be," he answered, "You know Eomer isn't that way - and I don't think our new Queen is either. - And... it's almost like letting Navinai 'win' something. You are innocent - as is the King, and he made that quite clear. But..." and lightly, Namian touched her cheek. "If you don't want to go, we don't have to. We could - we could walk in the gardens... or go for a ride. Firefox can easily carry two. - Unless," he searched Ramo's eyes, "unless you're tired of my company. It's up to you, though - and whatever you decide, you have my support - and my love."

***********************************

The Feast had been magnificent, Eomer thought, lost in just holding Lothiriel as they danced. It had begun with a Toast by his new wife's father, Imrahil tapping a glass for attention, and in the silence that followed then raising it.

"Westu Eómer and Lothíriel hál!"* the Prince of Dol Amroth smiled, and Eomer laughed to hear his native Rohirric tongue being spoken. "Well done!" he answered, when all were seated, and quietly translated it for Lothiriel under cover of the plates being set.

In the times he wasn't dancing with his beloved wife, Eomer danced with his sister... or chatted - though his eyes rarely left off watching Lothiriel... and never did the smile leave his lips. How he could have been happier, the King of Rohan didn't know - but to see her happiness echoing his own... it was often quite 'reluctantly' he let Lothiriel dance with anyone else.

During a short break for the Musicians, he did take a moment to thank Lihtfota, but was soon back at Lothiriel's side.

Yet, as all days, this one, too, came to a close... and it was slowly Eomer walked with Lothiriel down the corridors.

"Ramo is quite gifted with her tapestries," Eomer answered, and his eyes twinkled to watch Lothiriel make sure it was set in just the 'right place'. Rather... 'wifely' of her, he thought, and agreed when they stood back to admire it.

With a soft smile touching his own, Eomer touched Lothiriel's cheek, and very quietly shutting the door to the outer room, returned her kiss.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Morning found the newly-married couple partaking of a light breakfast that someone had left for whatever time they should awake. When they'd finished, Eomer rose and pulled Lothiriel into a gentle embrace, and a loving kiss. "It has been often my custom to ride the Riddermark of a fine morning," he said, and smiled at the twinkle in his wife's eye. Offering Lothiriel his arm, "Shall we?" he inquired, "Only say the word, and I'll send to have the horses waiting in the Courtyard..."

* Be-thou Eomer and Lothiriel well!

Lothiriel woke and looked up at the window as the stray rays of sunshine danced across the floor. Smiling, she turned to face Eomer, who was still asleep. She watched him for a bit, so peaceful and so lost in his dreams yet. Noticing the breakfast sitting beside the door, she slowly rose and trying not to disturb Eomer too much, she looked it over and then picked it up and took it back to their bed. She smiled when she saw that Eomer was awake. Kissing his cheek, she set his tray before him and climbed up beside him.

"It is going to be a fine day," she said. After they finished eating, she returned Eomer's embrace and replying to his question, she nodded.

"I would love to, but we must see my father off first. He told me he would leave at first light and, it is a bit past that time. I believe that Navinai will still go with him?" With that said, Lothiriel rose and changed into a pale blue dress and put on a deeper blue cloak that was fastened with a golden brooch. She delicately arranged her hair around her new crown and smoothed out the folds in her dress. Turning, she said to Eomer,

"After you change into your riding clothes, meet me in my father's quarters. He will need help packing, I am sure." She kissed him again and left.

Lothiriel hurried down the hall to her father's room. It was slightly ajar and servants were carrying out trunks of her father's possessions. When Imrahil saw her he went to her and embraced her.

"It is a beautiful morn, Lothiriel. I hope the weather stays this way for the remainder of the trip back home." He paused to instruct another servant on where to put the last trunk.

"I thought you might need help packing, but it seems that you did a fine job of it on your own." Lothiriel said.

The Prince smiled. " I am going to have to learn to fend on my own, with you going off and marrying Eomer, you leave me in a very difficult position. I am going to be quite a mess for a few days without you." He laughed and escorted Lothiriel down to the courtyard. The horses stood, saddled and loaded and the Prince Imrahil's guards stood at attention as he came forth. Looking everything over, Imrahil gave his approval and the guards boarded their horses and prepared to leave.

Lothiriel caught sight of Navinai and she felt a sudden anger come over her. She was relieved, however, to see that the ride back home for him, was not going to be comfortable. The guards had bound his hands together and had tied them to the horse's saddle so he could not escape. His garb as a servant of the king had been stripped from him and he wore a plain, brown, servant's tunic. Imrahil followed his daugher's gaze and said,

"I will take care of him, do not worry. He will learn his place soon enough." They both turned to greet Eomer as he came into the courtyard and Lothiriel slipped her arm about his waist.

"Well, my friend, I am off. I hope you will allow me to see my daughter occasionally and that you will take good care of her." His eyes twinkled and he continued more gravely, " I have taken control and responsibility of Navinai. He will no longer trouble you, of that I can assure you." Imrahil clasped Eomer's hand in his and then took Lothiriel's and kissed it before embracing her. " Goodbye," he whispered. And that was it. The Prince hopped onto his horse and with a word of command, his train of riders and his prisoner followed him out of Edoras.

Lothiriel stood and watched him leave, as the wind whipped harshly through her hair. She put her both her arms about Eomer's waist and rested her head on his shoulder and watched until her father was out of view. Turning to him, she said, " Now,how about that ride?" And she walked with Eomer to the stables.

Ramo woke with the morning light and stretched in her bed. A smile was already on her face before she had opened her eyes. She took her time brushing her hair out as she remembered her evening with Namian.

"I don't think I could tire of your company. And I would love to walk in the gardens with you." She had taken his hand and they strolled under the moonlight uninterrupted. They spoke of the wedding and how perfectly it had gone. The night grew old before they returned to the palace. "I had a wonderful time Namian." She smiled. "Thankyou."

She finished her morning routine and made her way into the Royal bedchamber. It was empty and she began to tidy it. Ramo had not seen Niela since the wedding yesterday and wondered whether she would be resuming her duties. Perhaps though she still pined over Navinai.

****************************************************

Before the guards had come to take Navinai to the courtyard he received a visitor. The King entered the room where his exmanservant sat without preamble. "Please sit, my Liege. I am sure you are well rested." The casual arrogance was still there, and always would be. "Before I leave I wish to speak with Niela. Surely you will grant me a moment with my hearts love."

(( OOC: Um, lol, ok - this is going to be rather 'long', since I not only coordinated between EowArwen's awesome post, but this also includes a JP between myself and LizzyB. ))

"It is going to be a fine day," she said. After they finished eating, she returned Eomer's embrace and replying to his question, she nodded.

"I would love to, but we must see my father off first. He told me he would leave at first light and, it is a bit past that time. I believe that Navinai will still go with him?"

"Yes," Eomer replied, "I will not have him in Rohan any longer than for him to leave!" he went on, and proceeded to get himself ready after Lothiriel left. - And, smiling at the memory of yesterday's comment, arrayed himself in shades of grey, and a green tunic. The simple gold circlet he preferred completed his outfit... along with the now-permanent pendant his beloved had given him, and with a demeanor as 'Royal' as it ever had been, went to 'deal' with his ex-manservant.
The King entered the room where his exmanservant sat without preamble. "Please sit, my Liege. I am sure you are well rested." The casual arrogance was still there, and always would be. "Before I leave I wish to speak with Niela. Surely you will grant me a moment with my hearts love."

Eomer shook his head at Navinai's arrogance. "I think not," he answered, and leaned against the wall. "My wife and I have been agreed since before the wedding - you are not to speak with Niela. Nor," the King of Rohan looked at his ex-Manservant straightly, "will there be any communication between you. - And, yes, I am turning you over to Prince Imrahil. You are banned from Rohan - and return to it on pain of death - that the Queen has already pronounced."

Pausing, Eomer inquired, "Now... why would you make these unfounded claims against me? - Against Ramo?"

Navinai leaned back in his chair and folded his hands. "I don't think they're unfounded. And most likely neither does half your country. You see there's something about me you don't know. Would you like to know?" He smiled wryly before continuing. "Before I entered your service I lived in the Westfold, there with my sister and parents. Lorelai was quite the pretty girl you understand. And she caught the eye of a certain Prince of Rohan." He stood and strode over to Eomer. "Theodred paid my sister to be his Mistress. And it destroyed her when he died. You deserve this."

"What, false against my dead cousin, too?" Eomer would not believe it. "I know not what tales you speak of - but, truly, lies are your only ally, Navinai. But, Truth I spoke the other day - and Truth I spoke yesterday, and you have failed in whatever you 'think' your cause to be - or the result you wished to achieve. Rohan and Gondor are Allies; Lothiriel and I have a True Marriage, and you have no 'heart' to give Niela! You will learn your 'place' in Dol Amroth, Navinai - Imrahil will see it so... with my blessing, and that of his daughter, my wife."

"Not false my King. I speak the truth in this. Ask Ramo." Navinai smirked at Eomer as if he held some important secret the ruler knew nothing of. "As for going with Imrahil I will do as you command. What more can a humble servant do?" He bowed and turned towards the fire once more.

"Oh, indeed you will," Eomer smiled grimly, "and 'humble' you will be when the Prince of Dol Amroth gets through with you!"

Opening the door, the King of Rohan motioned to the guards. "He's going with Prince Imrahil!" he ordered, and gave them the final commands as he went out the door to rejoin his wife and father-in-law

"Well, my friend, I am off. I hope you will allow me to see my daughter occasionally and that you will take good care of her." His eyes twinkled and he continued more gravely, " I have taken control and responsibility of Navinai. He will no longer trouble you, of that I can assure you."

"Never fear!" Eomer reassured his beloved wife's father, "- And, I thank you for ridding us of Navinai!" he grinned.

Walking slowly towards the Stables where Deorfohta and Anor were waiting, Eomer King felt his heart lifting with joy. - With Lothiriel at his side, how could he not? With his own hands, Eomer aided his wife to her horse's back, and then swung up on his own. "To the Riddermark!" he cried, and laughing, spurred his stallion forward.

*******************************

"I had a wonderful time Namian." She smiled. "Thankyou."

"So did I," Namian replied softly, and watching until Ramo was out of sight, he sighed and headed home.

Following behind his King and Queen a few length's back, Namian was smiling as they headed out to the open plains of Rohan. Walking with Ramo in the gardens after the Ceremony had suited the young Rider much more than 'attempting' to dance at the Reception.

The quiet chat, interspersed with companionable silences had made the evening fly… as did Namian's heart at the thought of seeing Ramo when their duties were over on this very fine day…

(sorry for it's short length)

Niela stood watching the King and Queen riding out from her window. She was silently berating herself for not asking the prince to take her back with him.
Navinai had been the main reason for holding back. She was not sure if she could endure the journey with him so near even if restrained.
I will make a request to Lothiriel as soon as she gets back.
She prepared to wait.

Lothiriel smiled to see her husband so happy and followed him with Anor. They rode in silence for a time and then dismounted near a small, brook running on the outermost edge of the vast plains. Great billowy clouds of grey were moving in and the air had turned colder since last night. Fall would soon be upon them. Lothiriel put her arms about Eomer's neck and looked into his hazel eyes.

"I am looking forward to our new life together more than I can possiibly say" She paused and kissed him. "But we have yet to speak on the topic of children or my role as your queen. Would you be happy with many children? Or only one or two? And what am I to do as queen? I believe I can manage my role as wife alright, I just do not know what is required of a queen." And her eyes twinkled.

Ramo finished cleaning up the rooms and went to seek Niela out. She found the other girl looking sadly out the window of her room. "Niela? May I talk with you?" She closed the door quietly behind her. "I'm sorry about what Navinai siad. If I could have found a way to prevent it I would have."

Eomer smiled, and settled his arms around Lothiriel's waist. "As am I," he answered, "And, one, certainly. - And, if it is to be for us to have many, I will be happy with that," and leaned down to kiss his wife tenderly. "But, I care not about 'numbers' of children - only that they are ours!

"As for your role as Queen," Eomer went on, and taking Lothiriel's arm in his own, began walking alongside the stream. "'Traditionally'," and grimaced at that word, "many queens have just been 'glorified hostesses'; presiding over the Palace Staff and formal dinners. That, however," and he met his love's black eyes straightly, "is not what I want... nor what you deserve. From the beginning, when it was first broached to me of an arranged marriage, I knew I wanted a partner, Lothiriel - in everything... including the Rule of this country. What I wish for you as Rohan's Queen, is to be that partner. I want you to join me in the Audiences... to be there when meeting with our Advisors... I want you to know every bit of ruling Rohan that I do."

Eomer halted their slow walk, and touched Lothiriel's cheek gently. "The ties between Rohan and Gondor have been strong this past decade... and now are stronger yet. When Aragorn calls; I am at his side - leading the Rohirrim in whatever battles are deemed necessary to wage. I want to know Rohan is in good hands, Lothiriel... and with it in yours," and pausing, he lifted first one, and then the other of those hands to his lips, and kissed them. "On those times I am not here - I want to know that it, and our people will be well cared for. Will you do this with me?" Eomer asked, and searching her eyes with his own, the King of Rohan now understood something else he'd not ever expected to endure: the separation from a most beloved wife on those times he was away.

Lothiriel smiled slightly as Eomer talked excitedly and emphatically about her role as his queen. He wanted her to help him in every way, and she was more than willing to. But when he broached the subject of his being away to battles, her heart dropped. She had not thought about that either.

Looking up at Eomer, she said, " I do not want you to leave for a very long while, ever, if that were possible. But if you are called away, I will put on a strong face and endure your absence while I must. It will be so hard, though." And just the thought of it almost frightened her, she would be left to rule alone in a country not her own, while Eomer was away risking his life for his people. Lothiriel put her arms about Eomer's waist and rested her head on his chest while the wind whistled by. She wanted to hear his heart beat, wanted to be held tight and be told by his embrace that no matter what, everything would always be alright, always as perfect as right now.

Ramo finished cleaning up the rooms and went to seek Niela out. She found the other girl looking sadly out the window of her room. "Niela? May I talk with you?" She closed the door quietly behind her. "I'm sorry about what Navinai said. If I could have found a way to prevent it I would have."

Niela turned slowly to face the girl.
"It was not any doing of yours." She said softly. "But you are kind to come. I myself am sorry that you fell victim to such a horrible rumor. It was a grave mistake on Navinai's part."

"He believed it though. He did what he thought was right." She sighed. "You care for him, don't you?" Ramo smiled sympathetically. "If you ever need to talk I'll listen. I'm sorry that we didn't start off well, but I mean to fix that."

She wanted to hear his heart beat, wanted to be held tight and be told by his embrace that no matter what, everything would always be alright, always as perfect as right now.

As an answer, Eomer tightened his embrace, and rested his cheek on Lothiriel's head. "I promise," he said softly, "On those times, I will not be away one day... one hour longer than I must, my dearest love!"

Moving Lothiriel just a bit, Eomer tilted his wife's chin up with a gentle hand so he could look into her eyes. Tenderly brushing back a lock of her long, black hair, he spoke.

"Can't you guess how much I will miss not being here with you?" he whispered, and bent down to kiss her - unheeding of their escort... though they be back some little distance apart.

Slowly, Eomer ended his kiss, and held Lohtiriel tightly to him again. "It may be," he went on, "that it will be some time before Aragorn calls me away. Already, it has been a year since his last campaign. Nor will I go until you feel comfortable here. That, I believe he will understand. He was once newly-married, too, you know!" and hoped his light teasing would help their somber mood.

For a time, they stayed where they were, Eomer just holding his new wife, giving, and receiving such comfort as they both could to each other.

Yet, at length, it was time to return, and with a smile that echoed all his love, Eomer handed Lothiriel back into her saddle, and swung up onto Deorfohta's back. The ride home was leisurely, though, and often, the King of Rohan stretched out his hand to just hold his Queen's along the way...

Once the pair was back at the Golden Hall, they dismounted as a worried looking Aragorn came striding up to them. Looking intently at Eomer, he said,

"Eomer, I must speak with you immediately." The urgency in Aragorn's voice scared Lothiriel and she wondered what he might want. Taking Eomer's hand, Lothiriel followed the two men into Eomer's private office. Aragorn remained standing and started to pace the room.

"Eomer, a scout came to me, early this morning. He said he had ridden from Ithilien and reported that orcs, remnants from Mordor, were growing hungry for war and some homes on the outskirts of Ithilien had been attacked. The scout has already notified Faramir and he will make ready an army as soon as he reaches Ithilien. I also am going to return to Minas Tirith with all haste to raise an army there. I fear the number of orcs that must be warred against number five hundred at least. I ask you for your aid, Eomer. I know my request is rather ill timed but war does not take leaves of absences. I urge you to seriously consider assisting Faramir and I in this endevour."

Pausing, he looked at Lothiriel who sat unmoving, her lips drawn. " Lady Lothiriel," he said " I apologize for any disturbance this may have caused you, but you are aware of the necessity of this, are you not?"

Lothiriel lifted her eyes and searched Eomer's. Turning to Aragorn, she replied, " If Eomer agrees to go with you, I will not plead otherwise, but I tell you this. If any harm befalls him, I will hold you, and you alone, solely responsible."

Aragorn nodded gravely and looked at Eomer, waiting to hear his affirmation or declination of his request.

"Thank you, your offer is most kind." Niela smoothed her skirts unconciously as she looked at the floor. "However, I may not be here much longer. As soon as Lothiriel is back I will request to be moved back to Dol Amroth."

Fury swept through Eomer... as did disappointment, loneliness, and a dozen other emotions that assaulted him at this news. His ire was not, however, directed at his friend, nor against his brother-in-law, whom the Rohanian Ruler now saw hovering in the doorway.

Meeting his beloved wife's eyes, Eomer tightened his grip on Lothiriel's hand as she spoke, and then returned an unwavering gaze to the King of Gondor.

"Since when," and the King of Rohan's voice was curt with trying to contain his rage. "Since when has the Banner of Rohan not been seen beside that of Gondor's in these past years of my Kingship?" he inquired, and at the same time giving his answer. "As ever, the White Horse upon Green will fly with the White Tree!"

Rising, and pulling Lothiriel up with him, Eomer turned to Faramir. "How long before your Army will be ready?" he asked. "I've already sent back word to begin," Faramir replied, "Three... four days at most, once I get back."

"In four days, the Rohirrim will ride out!" Eomer promised, and glanced at Aragorn, who nodded his acceptance.

"We then bid you our farewells now," the King of Rohan stated, "there is no time for 'pleasantries'. Leave as you see fit, and give Eowyn and Arwen our wishes as well!" and with a slight bow, and still holding Lothiriel's hand, Eomer left his office.

Catching sight of Namian just entering through the main doors, Eomer paused, and hailed him. "Call the First Marshal!" he ordered the young Rider, "The Rohirrim ride in four days for Ithilien! - He's to sound the alarm!"

Without waiting for Namian's answer, Eomer put his arm around his wife's waist, and took them to the privacy of his and Lothiriel's rooms. Where, in that privacy, he held her tightly. "I am sorry my love!" he whispered, "I can do nothing else but go! I will teach you as much as I can until then," he went on, and swore inwardly that for not one more moment than was absolutely necessary, would he be anywhere else but by Lothiriel's side during these next four days.

As the Muster-bell began ringing, Eomer gazed deeply into Lothiriel's eyes. There was much to be done, and with his order to Namian, the Rohanian King had set those events into motion. - And, such was Eomer's organization, that the first of them would be carried out with a calm (though urgent) swiftness that did not require his immediate presence. For the time being, however, Eomer wanted nothing more than to be alone with his wife. And then, he would begin orienting Lothiriel into the Duties of running her Adopted Country...

*****************************

Having settled Firefox back into his stall, Namian was heading back into the Palace to see if Ramo just might be through with her duties yet... and perhaps to share a quiet lunch.

Yet, as he walked through the Courtyard, it was a bustle of activity. The horses and baggage of both the Gondorian King and the Prince of Ithilien were being readied - and with all haste. Urgent calls between servants, and guards from both Realms underscored that something of import had happened.

Quickening his pace, the young Rider entered Meduseld, just in time to see his King and Queen.

"Yes, mylord!" Namian bowed to their backs, and turning on his heel, raced for where he knew the First Marshal would be. Gasping out Eomer King's message, he hurried back to once again seek for Ramo... just as the Alarm began sounding.

The Rohirrim were being called to Muster, and Namian, too, would be going to war...

"Do not leave on my account Niela. I'm sure you'll find-" Ramo's words were cut off by the sudden pealing of bells. "The call of the Rohirrim. We're going to war." Her heart lept in her chest. "Namian!" Without so much as a backward glance at the other girl, Ramo rushed out to seek him. She rounded a corner and found him asking another of the servants for her. "Namian, I'm here."

Namian headed straight for Ramo's rooms, but there was no answer to his knock. Might she still be tending to her duties int he Royal Wing? he wondered, and sighed. Since the King and Queen were headed that way, he'd not follow.

Yet, every servant he ran across, the young Rider begged if they'd seen her - to be told they'd not. He was just inquiring of someone else...
She rounded a corner and found him asking another of the servants for her. "Namian, I'm here."

"Ramo!"

Namian's heart leapt, and he couldn't seem to move. "You heard the Alarm?" he asked, unable to tear his eyes off Ramo's beautiful face. What would she be thinking? Would she miss him? If so... would it be just as a friend? - And inwardly, he wished it could be otherwise...

Lothiriel allowed Eomer to escort her to their room and stiffled a sob when he apologized.

"It is not your fault, Eomer. You are a king, with duties to your people. I cannot come in the way of that." But she threw her arms around him and embraced him tightly, as if perhaps by her embrace she could keep him safe from the turmoil that was coming. Pulling back, she said,

"There are still four days until you must leave. Let us make the most of that time. I am sure that you can teach me the bare basics of Rohirrim rule and I can manage alone with your advisors for a time." Lothiriel then touched Eomer's face with her hand.

"You are so brave, and I could not be more proud. I love you," she whispered kissing him.

She nodded. "I suppose it's of no use to ask you to stay. You will go because it is your duty." Ramo bit her lip and was silent for a moment. "Namian, what if you are killed? If you never come back . ." She pressed a hand to her mouth, trying to stifle the sob that rose of it's own will. "I'm falling in love with you, Namian and I'm scared. Don't go, please."

(( OOC: Ok, I went back and did a teeny edit on my previous post but last. It 'ought' to take the Rohirrim 2-3 days to get to Ithilien [once they leave] with getting forces continually gathered along the way. Hope that's ok! ))

"You are so brave, and I could not be more proud. I love you," she whispered kissing him.

With all his attention on his beautiful wife, Eomer returned Lothiriel's kiss. And, walking them to the couch by the window, rested her head on his shoulder whilst they sat. "I, too, am proud," he said softly, "and, I know you will do fine. You are a strong person, Lothiriel," the Rohanian King went on, and tightened his embrace, knowing Rohan could have no finer Queen than she in these perilous times.

"The Advisors, yes, they will help you, but also..." and Eomer chewed on his lip for a brief moment. "Since you know her... some... from your journey to Edoras, I will speak to Lihtfota. With her to translate for you, when you need it, perhaps she can do that which I cannot now do... and teach you the language of Rohan."

Tenderly, Eomer touched his wife's cheek. "I love you so, Lothiriel!" he whispered, and though it still be four days until he would ride out, kissed her as if it must hold them both for the weeks, if not months of separation to come.

When he ended it, Eomer searched Lothiriel's eyes. "There is a 'tradition'," he said, "That the Women of Rohan's Court accompany the Riders to the first night's encampment. Will you ride with me that far?" he asked, and folded his fingers in between those of her smaller hand...

*********************************

"I suppose it's of no use to ask you to stay. You will go because it is your duty." Ramo bit her lip and was silent for a moment. "Namian, what if you are killed? If you never come back . ." She pressed a hand to her mouth, trying to stifle the sob that rose of it's own will. "I'm falling in love with you, Namian and I'm scared. Don't go, please."

Almost, Namian couldn't believe his ears, and felt dizzy. But the busy corridor they were standing in, was no place to talk, or to wrap Ramo into the tight hug he so wanted to give her.

"Come on!" the young Rider said, and taking her hand in his, headed straight for the quietness of the Royal Gardens, where he did so... and held her for a very long moment.

"If I could," he answered her sadly, "I would never leave your side, Ramo, but it's not my choice to make. I am a Rider, and must go where our King leads!"

Without releasing his embrace, and gazing down into Ramo's eyes, Namian's voice was soft. "Don't fear for me," he went on, "Eomer is a clever commander; and sure in his orders. - And... with you here... to know that you - that you are waiting for me..." and slowly, the young Rider bent his head closer to hers. "When there is Love to return to," Namian whispered, "Believe me, Ramo - I will be back!" and hovered on the brink of touching his lips to hers...

Niela wandered out, dazed. She couldn't leave now, not with Rohan going to war. She felt let down. She had prepared herself to leave only to now find it was impossible. She held her face in her hands.

Must everything I plan to do come to nothing?

"Are you quite alright milady?"

A calloused hand hesitantly touched her elbow. Niela vaugly recognized the hawk-faced man as one of the riders.

"I know its hard for the women left behind, but we will do all we can to return."

He thinks I'm mourning the leaving of my love. Niela thought bitterly. I supose in a way I am. But not in the way he expects. I have no Namian or Eomer to wait for.

"Rynan!" A woman hurried up the passage, her long flaxen hair swinging. "I just have heard the news."
She took his hand and pulled him away to a quiter place.

Niela had never felt so alone.

Ramo clutched the front of Namians tunic. She could not speak, only cry. Her heart ached at his soothing words, for she wanted to believe them but found she could not. She gazed into his eyes and was once again amazed at the depth of love and caring she found there. Her hand rested on his cheek and she closed the short distance between them. When the kiss broke her eyes remained closed as she pressed her forehead against his. "My heart will always be with you." She smiled at this man that meant so much to her and knew that whatever happened she would always love him. "Walk in the garden with me tonight Namian. I have a gift I wish to give you."

Lothiriel laced her fingers through Eomer's and replied,

"Of course I will ride with you. That way I will not have to be parted from you any sooner than I must. The audiences are going to begin any moment. This will give you an opportunity to show me how the country is run, at least I will have some idea. And I would love for Lihtfota's aid in translation while you are gone."

Taking Eomer's arm, Lothiriel and him headed for the Golden Hall, where a long line of people had already gathered. Reaching the two thrones, the couple sat and the herald announced that the King would begin hearing cases and other trivial matters. Lothiriel watched Eomer's interaction with his people intently and listened closely to the translator sitting near her. She was determined to not let Eomer become disappointed with her as a Queen, nor the people. She wanted to be the kind of ruler that her father and Eomer were.

With a loving smile, Eomer kissed Lothiriel's hand as they rose, and with her on his arm, the King and Queen of Rohan headed for Lothiriel's first Official Audience with her new peoples.

For today - and since he'd not (yet) had time to speak with the Minstrel - one of Eomer's Advisors served as Lothiriel's Translator.

And, throughout the afternoon - and in such a way as to make it seem as if he was just making 'idle' comments, when Eomer made his decisions, he also explained each one in detail. Reasons, consequences, and alternatives the King discussed, and since there was also a written Record, Eomer knew his new wife could go back and use them as 'references', too.

When the last one had ended, the King and Queen were bowed out of the Golden Hall, and Eomer took them both out to the openness and quiet of the gardens. After holding Lothiriel tightly for a long moment, he looked at her honestly. "Tell me," he asked, "if the decisions and decrees I made this afternoon made sense to you, my love. Did they? If there are any that don't - tell me, and we'll go over my reasonings again - in one of those 'fireside-chats, I'm looking forward to having with you."

And, ruefully twisting his lips, "And - don't feel you have to agree with me, either - even on the ones from today. If you think I've 'missed' something - or you see a different solution, don't stop yourself from saying so - even in the Audiences. You have a... a... 'fresh' perspective, Lothiriel," and Eomer gently caressed his wife's cheek. "You will be good for Rohan, and it is good for Rohan to be seen with 'new' eyes."

Tenderly giving his Queen a kiss on her cheek, Eomer then took them back inside for dinner.

As ever, there would be music - though the songs played would be 'muted', and 'solemn'; reflecting the mood of everyone in the Palace.

And, whilst settling Lothiriel in her place, Eomer saw Lihtfota checking the tuning of her harp. "I'll be right back," he told his beloved wife, and went to speak with the Minstrel.

After once again thanking her for yesterday's Song, he got right to the point. "It seems," the King said, "of late, I need your help - in tasks that are outside your excellent musical abilities. First, in traveling to Dol Amroth and back; and now..." Eomer paused, "Lothiriel and I both need your assistance. The Queen needs someone she's comfortable with to aid in translating; and to help teach her our Native Language. We would like you to fill that task while I'm gone - if you will..."

She smiled at this man that meant so much to her and knew that whatever happened she would always love him. "Walk in the garden with me tonight Namian. I have a gift I wish to give you."

Smiling softly, Namian tenderly brushed the tears from Ramo's cheeks. "Tonight," he answered softly, "And tomorrow night - and the next," the young Rider promised; though his love had already given Namian the most joyous gift a man could receive: her heart.

Bending down, Namian gave Ramo a lingering kiss, and once more hugged her to him tightly, resting her head so she could again listen to his heart that beat only for her. "I'll be back at sunset," he told her, and briefly tightened his embrace. But, knowing there were tasks that he needed to address, Namian could not remain with her long.

"I love you, Ramo!" he whispered, "I'll be here - at sunset!" he promised again, and lovingly gazed into Ramo's eyes for a long moment before (almost literally) tearing himself away. And, even as he left the garden, Namian's eyes rested on Ramo for as long as he could before hurrying to the stables to carefully begin checking Firefox's war-tack...

The moment news had reached her, Lihtfota's first thought had been to seek out Ramo. She had watched her friend's increasing feelings for Namian, and now she was worried what this separation could have done to their budding relationship. In particular, what Ramo's reaction would be worried her. But she was called to play for the royals' dinner, and she had no choice but to go, making a mental note to find Ramo later.

And, whilst settling Lothiriel in her place, Eomer saw Lihtfota checking the tuning of her harp. "I'll be right back," he told his beloved wife, and went to speak with the Minstrel.

The girl coloured slightly. "That is indeed a weighty task, milord." she said with a small smile. "I am honoured you see me fit to be entrusted with it. When would you like me to begin?"

"Tonight," he answered softly, "And tomorrow night - and the next," Ramo beamed at his answer and accepted his kiss. She wished they could forever be this way, she and Namian. His heart beat softly against her ear and she prayed that it would continue to beat this rythym. After whispering words of love he was gone to attend to his horse, leaving her alone in the garden. She walked the deserted paths quietly. Ramo found a bench near a clump of Starbursts and began to plait a small section of her long hair.
