Gosh, golly, gee here I was celebrating my snow day:disco: on Wednesday and all heck was breaking out here! I'm sorry to see you go, Swabby. Your humor and naughtiness was delightful. Go watch An Inconvenient Truth and feel better.

My favorite Tolkien moments are "the great tales" speech by Sam that I paraphrase for my classes (we do a lot of the great stories: Romeo and Juliet, The Odyssey, The Hobbit.)
My movie favs as many of you know are lighting the beacons and THE KISS and Boromir's death and the elves arriving at Helm's Deep.

Rosie, I've been trying to listen to The Sil starting last summer and I've just made it to CD#3. Difficult!

The orklings are all coughing and wheezing and sneezing. Their liittle red eyes are redder than ever and they could barely raise their heads from the desks. The nurse was sending them home by the pony cart full with fever running upward from 101. :dizzy:

Next week could prove fun. The meteorologists are predicting another snowstorm Monday into Tuesday and we already have a four day week with a teacher inservice on Friday...and parent conferences Thursday night---YUCK. (Don't get me wrong: I love talking to the parents but having a day that lasts from 7:00 A.M. to 8:30 P.M. is a killer.)

Haven't been able to do my outdoor walking (windchills of -10 and below) but have been doing Walking DVD indoors (kicks my butt at 3 miles) AND I shoveled the driveway on snowday!!!! DH wanted to know how much I'd paid to have it done. Couldn't have done that a year ago!!!!!!!

Mith, you've left the frozen wastes of Lake (Erie) Angband for the warmer climate of TX. Hope your trip was unencumbered with any trolls, goblins, or highway patrolmen.

Sindy

Blows kisses in the direction of ARK. Hope you come back Swabby. We'll just act like nothing happened.

Well, thanks so much for the photo compliments. I have passed on your suggestion to my sweetheart. Of yeah, I told my husband, too (hahahaha! He and I do that schtick all the time).

Welcome  Virtuelle and Celebrian. Good to have new people here. Yes, we do occasionally become a dysfunctional family but it has been blessedly rare here, compared to other forums (fora? fori? never did study Latin).

Let me introduce myself to the newcomers: For the record, I am 2 weeks shy of 50, have an unholy trinity of sons (1 is a definite Tolkien enthusiast, one is perhaps an enthusiast in taining and one simply enjoyed the films). Hubby dabbles in photography and read Tolkien in the 60s when it was cool to do so. Our dog Kayla is crazy, but we love her. I work as a counsellor, love music, dance, dreams, mythology and am slightly Tolkien-obsessed. :dizzy:

Rose , if you like Sarah, you'll like Loreena McKennitt. Her voice is haunting and her harping (is that a word? I don't mean nagging)is second to none. Her song Dante's Prayer moves me to tears (words from the chorus in my signature line). We just finished a piece to it in sacred dance class. Yes, The Highwayman is beautiful, but wait until you hear her Lady of Shallott on the Elemental album. Wow!

Off to bed now., Had a bit of a rough week emotionally (darn those hormones) and spent 5 hours in the Emergency today getting one of my students admitted on suicide watch. Poor thing - deeply depressed, her mother and congregation don't "believe in depression" and she's not responding to the 4th trial of medication. Send a prayer for her please.

Rose. Still no snow over there? Get your huskies out and sledge over to Taddington. Six more inches overnight, drifting, and still falling. No. On second thoughts you stay where you are with a nice warm drink. Calle. How is it with you?

The bus has made it through, at about 10mph, and almost on time, so presumably somebody has ploughed somewhere. Definitely not here.

Will post welcomes etc. later, but will now phone round to see if there's anyone needs digging out, coal brought in, or dogs taken out. Such dogs as I've seen from my window have been romping and bounding. Did we lose our ability to have fun maybe?

Welcome to the club, Virtuelle! As for me, I'm 48, married, and mother of two teenage daughters, the younger of whom is autistic. I was a Tolkien fan already long before the movies were released, and lately, I've been delving deeper into the development of the Middle-earth stories.

Scenes that move me? In the movies, there are many. But, if I had to choose just one, it would be in the FOTR, when Frodo stands alone on the shore after Boromir's attack on him, looking at the Ring, thinking of Gandalf's words, and deciding that he has to continue to Mordor alone. In the book, what always gets me is when Sam sees a star from between the clouds in Mordor, and how that gives him hope.

Awelyn, it's really a pity that your granddaughter lives so far from you that, you can only see her once a year.

Rose, so the snowstorms have avoided the Manchester area? There was some footage from London and its surroundings in our newscast a couple of days ago, and there, they seem to have a real chaos.

Neenime, . Hope you get a proper rest. I'm keeping your student in my thoughts. The attitude of her congregation is just outrageous - whatever her religion may be, this kind of thing really gives it a bad name!

Well, have a good weekend, everybody!

Hi Virtuelle, glad you made it As I said in my PM, I am 61 with two children (they are always children aren't they. ) and a spousal unit, who is asleep at the moment on the settee. He has a touch of the flu, poor lamb. His temperature was 101 degrees this morning. Am making him jewish penicillin' (chicken broth/soup for the unitiated. Lol!)

Still no snow. Manchester does seem to miss most of the 'weather'. I think the Pennines have something to do with it. They are our protection. Not that we haven't had snow over the years. Seems that the Midlands and the South have had most of the 'weather' for the past few years.

Morwin, I didn't realise you had an autistic child. My friend has an autistic son. He is 16 now and I can appreciate that it can be very difficult for you.

Neenime. A calendar would be wonderful. I hope you don't mind, but I have the fox as my background on my comp. Couldn't resist. He is such a cutie.

Welcome back Celebrian. Lovely to see you, whenever.

Hi Randi.

Hugs to everyone else.

Gotta go, my son is here and sitting on my shoulder. Wants to watch the football on the comp.

Bye for now.

For those of you here that like poetry General Realms Discussions is having a poetry contest. Go check it out. The poems have to be about one character in LOTR or the Hobbit and what that character is thinking of the other. You might want to enter. I wrote a poem of Rosie's thoughts of Sam.

Neenime You and your student will be in my thoughts and prayers. Hope you get some much needed rest. *Darn hormones* Also, let me know when a calendar might be available. I really do like those photos. Keep the links coming.
Cirdaneth sending you warm wishes, cocoa and hugs. I'm feeling really lucky because we don't have a lot of snow in Idaho, though we need it and should have more. But the temps were mild enough yesterday to shed the winter coat and just use a sweatshirt.
Awelyn You go girl! Good luck in the poetry contest. I write about things, not people, so I am sure I won't be entering.
Randi How are things on the farm for you this winter? Our mild winter has made our operation easier, except when it gets muddy. We had our first calf of the season yesterday. She was born to one of our heifers. Nice little black calf.
Virtuelle Welcome to our thread. I am from Idaho, USA and teach 3rd grade. I have 3 children, all grown and one still living at home, occasionally. He sleeps at his sister's house half the time. It's pretty quiet here until they all drop in at once. Youngest will be 20 in June. Oldest 23 in April. We have two boys and a girl. Our daughter will be 21 in April. I will be 49 in March. My husband and I farm and ranch, just a small place of our own.
Welcome and I hope you enjoy becoming part of our big family.

Thank you Brandywine and I forgot to say that you have to be in a realm to enter this contest.

Yes Morwin it is sad. I talk to her often on the phone and mail her things but it is just not the same as physical contact I miss those hugs.

Rose, chicken soup nothing better for a cold or the flu. I hope your son's team won. Have a good weekend.

cirdaneth I bet you feel like you are in a winter wonderland. My dogs love the snow too they just run and chase each other and act goofy.

Calle are you snowed in?

I am sending out search and rescue for MTMS and Mith but I guess she is still unpacking and adjusting to her new place. I hope you all have a good weekend. I am sending weekend hellos to Balrog,Mag,OTB,VicarCat,HT,Sindy,Belle,Melia, and any others that I have forgotten.

Snow's turned to rain and everything's melting. Thick mist is gathering and it may freeze again tonight. Treacherous. I managed to refill the coal buckets and just got away before the snow from the roof fell where I had been standing!

Hello Celebrian, I've seen you around on some other threads, and welcome to Virtuelle. I am 64 and live in the Derbyshire Peak District UK. I was carer for my sick husband (Calar - the lamp) for 15 years. He died 3 years ago.

I have been reading Tolkien since LotR was first published and have read it roughly every two years, often aloud to someone else. Am currently reading The Notion Club Papers which are very enlightning, though they demand some perseverance.

I like your sig, virtuelle. One of these days there will have to be a test case to make Tolkien's copyright sufficiently flexible to see his vision fulfilled. I was at one time a folk-singer and specialised in the great English and Scottish ballads ... mostly a capella, and I see traces of some in Tolkien's work. There are many other themes that could be worked in.

Thanks for the preliminary calendar orders, Hubby is appreciative and is tickled pink that any of you want to use one of his photos as a desktop. He then proceeded to make a silly comment about how he doesn't do nude calendars anymore since people kept telling him to put his clothes back on. :nono: Bad boy! See what I have to put up with?

It's still too cold here and will apparently stay that way for a week or so. I am ready to have it warm up, but at least the days are getting longer.

Number three son worked outdoors again at the historical park. Since he spent most of the day in front of a bonfire, he smelled like a burnt sausage all the way home in the car! Phewwww! :twitch:

Thanks for the good thoughts and prayers for my student. She is a strong young woman to have endured this much but I don;t think she owns that strength - instead she seems to put her hopes in external factors. Her church probably means well, no doubt exhorting her to pray harder and all that. She has a particularly nasty case of depression and I'm sorry, but if God put medication and treatment on the earth, then what fools we would be to not use them and then wonder why He didn't help us! OK, off the soapbox now.

Have a restful weekend all.

Neenime I wholeheartedly agree with you that our Maker gave us the intelligence to create medicines and therapies to combat the illness and infectious diseases that we face as mortal beings. I have a colleague who is a nurse as well as a teacher and her philosophy is "Better living through pharmaceuticals." She doesn't pedal drugs as a way out of every problem but is a firm believer that if you need a medicine for whatever ailment, by gum you should take it. I agree with her on that. I have seen so many parents who don't take their kids to the doc for one reason or another and the poor tikes just get sicker. Then I've had a few who followed my recommendation and had such things as allergies and asthma diagnosed. Teachers spend an awfully large portion of the day with kids and we see things in a more detached way than parents sometimes do. That perspective can be helpful in identifying an ailment. That's why we take trainings that deal with current drug and health issues for our students. We have one of those this Friday and will have no school with the kids on Friday or Monday, the 16th and the 19th. The 19th is President's Day here in the USA.

Yesterday began as a beautiful day here in Idaho and then turned to rain which also means mud. We took our Webelos scouts on a hike around a local lake. We had a very enjoyable time and afterword ate the tin foil dinners we had cooked at the park by the lake. Then we had banana boats. Yummy! It was a fun day for everyone. It started to rain at about 6:00 so we packed the little guys up and took them home. My legs ached all night. We walked three miles or more and found all sorts of interesting treasures (as little boys will).

Our high school basketball has won every game of our double elimination tournaments so far and the whole community is elated. HS Basketball is the highlight of excitement in the winter here. We didn't do all that well all season and now the boys are just smokin' the other teams. What's really cool about all of this is that many of the boys on the team were in either my kindergarten class or later my third grade class. Nothing like seniors to make a body feel age creeping up behind them.

Well that's about all. I am working on some redecorating ideas to make my home more Hobbitish and Elvish. Wish I had a tree in the backyard with flets. Wouldn't that be cool?

Have a good one all and Happy upcoming Valentine's Day. I hope all of your significant others remember you with tokens of love.

 Thanks all, your wonderful.

Wish I had a tree in the backyard with flets. Wouldn't that be cool?

Oh so cool. I would love to do a room in our house like a room of Rivendell. I have been reading the Mellon Chronicles and have completely fell in love with thier portrayal of Elrond and the twins as they put up with the antics of Aragorn and Legolas. I would just love to morph into middle earth and walk the forests of Rivendell or Lorien.
My kids think their mom is nuts. LOL girl 13 son 10 and little daughter almost 7.

Neenime: Prayers to both of you.
Rosearialelven: Hope he feels better.
cirdaneth: I agree I hope someday they expand the thinking and let his creativity flow free for all fans that love his work. I think he would roll over in his grave at the stuff that is carried on today over his work.
Brandywine: Thanks for your welcome, Idaho is beautiful you are so lucky to live where there are pine trees.

If I missed any one I apologise. I have been awake till now.

Good day ,all.

Brandy that sounds like a wonderful day that you spent with your group. It makes me pine for hiking weather. It's too ^#)(@&*&# cold even take the dog out for her longer walks these days.

YOur description of watching the basketball team play made me smile. You're obviously a proud and devoted fan.

I awoke from a horrible dream about scores of planes overhead, bombing starting nearby, trying to make preparations for war and not being with all of my family! I think I was still freaked out from an article I had read last night about some kids torturing an animal The image haunted me all evening. *shudder* and stirred up some helpless emotion. But some cuddling with hubby and the dog seems to have dissipated the worst of it.

Going to cook pea soup and a roast today. Then hubby and I are going to see Pan's Labyrinth tonight. Will probably go see it again with my Ring-Sisters, as I know they are keen to do that, also.

Have a blessed and restful day, everyone.

Neenime oh I think I am coming to your house because I just love pea soup.
I have read articles like that that just really terrify and horrify me. I think cuddling is a great idea it helps me. I have a reoccurring dream I have not had it in about a year. I usually have it if I am stressed but sometimes there is no reason. I am walking through a house and then I realize it is a haunted house and terror seizes me and I have to get out and then there are various ways I try until I am out and looking back at the house. I always wake up and I am sitting up breathing hard but that is how it happens every time.

Have a great time at the movies.

Brandy, yes I agree about the medicines but what I see are parents that go overboard the other way. I was so glad in my area that doctors now write a script for antibiotics and advise parents to wait 24 hours before filling it for a ear infection. Then you have the people like my sister who stop taking antibiotics as soon as they feel better . I yell at her about that all the time. I know there are some groups that don;t believe in blood transfusion or medicine prayer only. But even in the Bible in talks about John the physician. Oh well off that subject. Your decorating ideas sound nice. Good luck.

Virtulle, my kids and they are all adults look at me like I am crazy when on Hobbit day I dress like Frodo or at my work. I am an instructor at our local school and at one Hallowwen thing I dressed as a Hobbit with hairy feet that I glued on and used the wrong glue and had a painful time of removing it.Last year at our Halloween party I dressed as a Lady of Rohan and no one had a clue so I had to explain. I looked better as a Hobbit I think. Anyway my kids just roll their eyes except my son who introduced me to Tolkien. My grandkids understand their Grammy and they like Tolkien as well. So you are not alone. with your kids thinking you are crazy because of your love of Tolkien.

To all that are not here I want to say hi and have a great weekend.
MTMS, my husband bought a box of moonpies last night and I thought of you.

I am working hard on rehearsals for the play. We are having longer ones but I am having fun. We have a great bunch of people in the play and behind the scenes too.I get my costume today. I am so excited.

Bye for now.

Hiya!
We survived the snow and now it has already disappeared with the help of the rain and the temps are starting to recover. This is taken two days ago up the hill from my house. The roofs you can barely see that are red is where I live.

Mae govannen Virtuelle! I am 52 with four children. Thirty YO son who is back home after a divorce, 27 YO son who lives in Florida, 17 YO daughter still at home, and 16Yo son also at home. I live in the midlands in the UK, although I spent most of my life in Florida where my parents moved to when I was young. I have loved Tolkien for years and elves even longer. It started with a fairy book my mum bought me when I was only three. My other love is Robin Hood stemming from the book my dad bought me when I was five. I am truly and hopelessly obsessed and my other half and children just sort of accept it now. My utter soul mate on this earth is my dog Cocoa. Like Radagast, Eru put me here to help tend and love his creatures.
Welcome into our family.
My posts are random as my extremely busy life affords me little time, but this site is a must for me as often as I can, because I truly feel at home here. Its where we gather round for a nice moot and share tales and hopes and dreams, (also have a good rant now and then). Our love for Tolkien and ME unites us here in our own little part of ME.
Oh Neenime, I'll stop in for some pea soup as well! Yum!

Just dropping in for a short post today. I've been up since 6:30 a.m. grading papers. It's now 11:30 a.m. here on the PoG. :dizzy: Do you suppose that I'll make teacher of the year? LOL Probably not. At least I've only got one more class to go and it's all done. Then it's on to lesson plans for next week. I have to think of something marvvy for Tuesday as that's an evaluation day for me.

Too many demands on my time from too many people doesn't allow me to surf CoE and all things Tolkien on the web as much as I'd like. We have parent-teacher conferences tomorrow night so I HAVE to have these grades done and posted on the web before tomorrow morning 8 a.m. PoG time. Of course, the weather is going to turn "interesting" tomorrow afternoon, so maybe there won't be many people there tomorrow night. Who knows??

Well, off I go to take up correcting spelling tests. No rest for the wicked!

Take good care.

Hello everyone! You all seem to lead such interesting lives, I'm a bit jealous. As the saying goes, I've "been a few places and done a few things" but not I'm down in the back and most of my adventures take place in Middle Earth and Pern. Hope everyone has enjoyed the weekend. Neenime, this is the time of year for homemade soup! I love pea soup but I'm the only one in the family who does so I made a pot of veggie-beef soup and some cornbread. Scots, good luck with your parents!

Raining now. Snow nearly all gone. Quiz night tonight. We lost.

My daily life is not particularly interesting, Celebrian, despite the bizarre oddments that tend to crop up. Like you I've done some interesting things in the past, but mostly spend life in middle-earth nowadays. I have visited Pern briefly and quite enjoyed my trip. I may go again sometime.

Cuddles ... yes ... very valuable. I have a neighbour who gives me a quick hug when I go for coffee. It means a lot. Otherwise I don't know anybody well enough for any kind of physical contact or to cry on if there's a problem. My haidresser tend s to be chatting to all and sundry while he cuts my hair so I don't feel close to him, but it's sometimes comforting when the top of my head is against my dentist's tummy. Does that sound silly?

Well, folks, I still can't tell you the details of my Mordor quest, but I am definitely not going to Japan. Still flitting among the ash-pits though, evading the ring-lords, and Gollum. The ring I bear is creative rather than dangerous, but I need to get to its place of forging, not to destroy it, but to have it polished up and its value restored. The big boys haven't noticed me yet. He He

Cirdaneth, I must admit you have me deeply intrigued. If you do need a ring partner to take a trip to Japan, I only need a few weeks notice.
I understand about the little comforting touches. Its more than a physical touch, its a touch of the souls. Some people are standoffish but I like quick little hugses. It meant a lot to me when Rose and Magoleth greeted me in Manchester with a quick hug. The family in us overcame our first meeting as strangers. But though most of us havent met face to face, we feel comfortable to open up to each other.
Celebrian, most of my day to day life is rather dull, but then on the whole I think I could write a book about my soap-opera life. There have been many times when I have wished for a normal quiet day.
Scots, you are so involved in your students. Its a wonderful thing, but dont exhaust yourself. i wish you all the best on your evaluation. If only they could see, like we do, how devoted you are.
Ok Awelyn, we would like to see a photo of you in your costume, yeah? You do sound like you are having fun with it. Break a leg, mate!
Good monday morning to all of you. I hope its the beginning of a good week for us all. At least our temps have recovered here and it should be mild all week. hovering around 10c all week which is 50f. The snow is pretty but I'd much rather look out the window and see green fields with the horses and cowses wondering around.

Celebrian, my daily life is mundane. I guess I was a wild child though. Was always a bit of a rebel. Have had more than enough jobs. Worked with horses and dogs (greyhounds), in shops and garages. But nothing really interesting or exciting.

I had never really been hugged, other than by my mum, until I met Magoleth. And I agree, calle, it was lovely to give and receive a hug when we met.

I liked your snowy pic, calle. The sun is shining at the moment and it feels quite mild.

Looking forward to seeing your costume awelyn.

Is anyone going to buy The Children of Hurin?? I'll have to think about it. Maybe in time. I suppose Christoper Tolkien is giving his father's devotees what they want, a continuation of Tolkien.

Watched Lost last night. It's back on UK TV. Loooove that programme. And 24 too. ♪♪Oh what a night! ♪♪ Lol!!

My spousal unit is feeling somewhat better. Dosed him with Beechams Flu capsules, home made chicken broth (Saturday), plenty of fluids and home made Fish/Prawn pie (Sunday).

Lord luva duck, scots. et:  Take care, pet.

Well, better toddle.

Bye for now.

Hugs

Rosie xxx

Cirdaneth I love the line you quoted recently :

"Whether by your will or no, there is no ship now that could bear me hence,"
.
That one and Arwen’s sacrifice as spoken on the bridge at Rivendell tug at my heart strings. They will always be an emotional highlight of the films and the story as they embody the ending of Elven times on ME.

I wish you strength on your quest through Mordor. rustles in her pocket for the phial of light from Eärendil

Awelyn Sorry about your bad dreams. Have I told you about how to rework bad dreams? As soon as you get up, or when you think of them afterward, imagine a better ending to the story. Use whatever fantastical method you like, as there are no rules in dreamland. Simultaneously breathe slowly and calm your body, because it is reacting with the genuine emotions as if the situation were really happening (as you well know).

*hands over a thermos of pea soup for comfort* Would anyone else like some? There’s plenty more.

I had the house to myself for most of the day on Sunday. Started watching some of the appendices from ROTK. Tom Shippey and a fellow named Curry were talking about Tolkien’s dream that his newly devised mythology for Englad would inspire others to create a world complete with poetry, visual arts, music, etc. Little did he know how far his dream would grow. It is Middle Earth that has become real for millions now, not just England.

I also watched a bit of Pride and Prejudice on Saturday night. Then one with Keira (Please, Sir, can I have some soup? I am far too skinny for my own good/) Knightly as Elizabeth and Matthew MacFayden as Mr. Darcy. *swoon*

Well, it's off to work. Keep warm, keep digging (is you have snow) and happy Tolkien thoughts to you today.

But Neenime, just suppose that the end of elven times was just another of Morgoth’s lies and that something more wonderful happened as the exclusive elvishness diminished.

Recently I wanted the challenge of writing something in the internal rhyme pattern of “Errantry”. I had no idea what to write about, but used Tolkien’s own method of letting something “come through” and this is what happened …

Oh would that I could tell you more
of Ellanor the hobbit-elf
Whose father faced the blasts unswerved
And master served more dear than self.

For in his heart a seed was sown
And need was grown, with Rose to dwell
And father her whose winsome heart
Was in some part Galadriel.

‘Tis Elanor who shields the light
And wields it bright to farther shore
That elven souls, now freed to roam
May speed them home from Valinor.
© Cirdaneth 2007

… and I do mean from Valinor. The elves are here, making their homes within us, as long as our doors are open to them.

Hi everyone

Special Hi to Virtuele - I am 51, single and live in Edinburgh the best place on this earth.

Cirdaneth I loved your poem very sweet.

The talk about people expecting God to help them reminds me of a joke I heard.

A man is adrift in the ocean in stormy seas. He is not worried however because he has prayed to God to save him. Therefore he ignores the flares that he finds in the bottom of his boat. When the lifeboat comes along he says he doesn't need their help. He does the same thing to the rescue helicopter. As his boat capsizes he calls out "Lord! Why didn't you save me?"

A voice from the clouds answers " I gave you a flare and sent a boat and a helicopter- what more did you want?"

Hope no-one finds this offensive I thought it was very funny.

Love and hugs to you all.

Neenime that sound very interesting about reworking your dreams I will try it next time. I can sometimes wake myself up by telling myself it is a bad dream. Thank you.

Yes HT I have heard that before and I was not offended . I think God has a sense of humor.

Cat I miss you I will be glad when you are finished moving
.
I miss you too MTMS and Mith. Get back on here girls. Maybe I could tempt MTMS with a moon pie. It is a sweet treat for those who don't know. It is a graham cracker marshmallow concoction.

Cirdaneth, I just adored that poem. I know what you mean about touch and the importance of it. With my premature daughter part of her treatment was daily touching not only from me but also the nurses. The doctor said without it the babies were at risk.

Now, Rose and I entered the inter-realm poetry contest and they are having COE member's vote for the winners. So, FOF go to General Discussions and then to the contest and read the poems and vote. May the best poem win

Definitely. My favourite saint is St Theresa of Avilla, who tramped for miles across Spain founding groups of sisters and generally spreading the word. She told a tale against herself in which tramping alone through wild country, she slipped on stepping stones and her foot went into the water. She heard God's teasing voice in her head "Thus do I treat my friends!" St Theresa states that she shook her fist at the heavens and shouted "That's why you have so few!"

Hugs to you awelyn for missing me so much! I've missed you as well. Life has kept me very busy.
Our K-1 Center Mardi Gras parade was Friday. Just so happened to see the kind folks from West Virginia that I stood next to in at a parade the week before. Small world, isn't it? Cousin is coming to vist this weekend, when Mardi Gras gets to be serious business. May not see alot of me, but I'll be thinking of you all, wishing you were along with me.
I've already got some special Mardi Gras beads for you, awelyn. Should be able to get lots more if anyone else is interestsed.

Great to see you amongst us again, celebrian! Don't stay gone so long.

Welcome virtuelle! I am a young 51 year old kindergarten teacher who loves medieval faires, jousting, Aragorn and everything Tolkien. I fell in love with Aragorn when I first read the books 30-something years ago. He is my obsession and passion! I also love all of Tolkien's works and spend alot of time in ME. I have a room in my house dedicated to that purpose-Middle earth(with a special emphasis on Aragorn!)
Enough about me, I'd like to hear more about you.

Scenes in the movies when I cry:
Boromir's death scene- isn't Aragorn wonderful in that one?
scene with Eldarion- Aragorn is such a great dad!
lighting of the beacons
clanging of the bell to muster the Rohirrim-Eomer's speech
Sam with Frodo after Shelob-Don't go where I can't follow
Pippin and Gandalf at the gate, speaking on death
the charge of the Rohirrim at Pelennor fields
Theoden's death
Sam and Frodo-It's good to have you with me,Sam,here at the end of all things.
For Frodo!

Yes, I am a cry-baby!

Love and hugs to you all. Will try to pop in again before cousin arrives. Take care, stay warm and well. Don't break a leg, awelyn.

Hope that all of you are well...and warm...

All of the recent posts have been so interesting. Thanks for the advice on reworking dreams. Sometimes they seem so real that you could swear it really happened. I've awakened from a dream in which I was upset with my husband and had to keep reminding myself that it was a dream.
Poor Man!!
Rose-glad your spousal unit is feeling better.
Scots-good luck tomorrow or today, whenever you read this. Be assured that you will be in my thoughts during your eval. All the best to you and please take care not to work too hard.
MTMS-Glad to see you back. We had lots of beads floating around our High School this week. They had been ordered for Red Ribbon Week and many students wore them to the ball game in support of the team. They were red and black (team colors). Everyone looked so festive wearing them. Mardi Gras sounds like lots of fun and lots of hard work.
Cirdaneth-I loved your poem. It was really beautiful.
Awleyn-Good luck in the play. Sounds very intriguing, what you are doing.
Randi-How is the ranching going? How are those colts doing?

Well our High School team won again tonite in a game they were not expected to win. They play again tomorrow for second place. If they win they move on to district championships which determines the teams that go to the state championships. All of the town is very excited for them. They have kind of come back from behind and we are such a small team. We only have 85 students in grades 6-12.

Well enough about me and my life. All is well here. See you all tomorrow. Hugs to all whom I didn't mention specifically, you are all in my thoughts.

Oh, MT...Don't go where I cant follow...Forgot to mention that one. That one really brings the tears. Also Haldirs death is particularly disturbing to me. Anyway. glad to have you back. Hope you have a blast at Mardi gra.
Brandy, big congrats to your HS team! bet they are floating about now. Fingers crossed for them to continue their winning streak.
HT, that doesnt offend me. The Lord knows my OTT (over the top) sense of humor. I can giggle at just about anything. Its good for the soul.
Cirdaneth I think your poem is brilliant and it gives lead to a nice continuation of the elves. Yes, they are still with us, in fact loads of us have descended from them.
Randi, sorry you have been ill. Take care of yourself.
I will have to hurry over to read the poetry entries now, so later my friends!

A lovely Tuesday morning to you all. Well anything is lovely after the dismal rain last night. I do wish the dear weathermen would get it right. Lol!!

Oh, so many lovely quotes and moments. I really must have some quality time to myself and watch my LotR dvds. Not that it isn't quality time in here with all of you.

Brandy, I'm glad he is on the mend too. Just hope the little virusy bugs don't hop over to me.

Here's the link to the Poetry Contest Thread if you want a good read and perhaps vote.

Helloooo MT and welcome back.

A favourite Saint. Wow!! So many. Well at least in my faith, Catholic, there are. Unless the Pope decides to demote one. Poor St Christopher. Lol!! Errrrm, St Teresa of the Roses, St Margaret, St Anthony (helps you find things you might have lost) and St Francis of Assisi (anyone who love animals, well.... goes without saying. ) Oh, and St Jude, when all things are dark.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A Joke:
A guy goes into a restaurant/lounge wearing a shirt open at the collar and is met by a bouncer who tells him he must wear a necktie to gain admission.
So the guy goes out to his car and he looks around for a necktie and discovers that he just doesn't have one. He sees a set of jumper cables in his trunk. In desperation he ties these around his neck, manages to fashion a fairly acceptable looking knot and lets the ends dangle free.
He goes back to the restaurant and the bouncer carefully looks him over for a few minutes and then says, "Well, OK, I guess you can come in - just don't start anything."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Well, nearly lunch time. Off to flap my wings and check out the shops.

Huggles

Rose xxx

"What hurricane?" .. (Michael Fish 1987) my favourite weather quote.

I have been to the poetry site, Rose, and I have voted.

I like St Francis too. A sort of Radagast character, but less gullible. His ideas of Brother Sun and Sister Moon are very similar to some Native American ones. They have some lovely prayers.

Lol!!
Apparentlly, Michael Fish did set right his infamous evening forecast of October 15th 1987, the night of ‘the great storm.’ During his broadcast, Michael said; “Earlier on today apparently, a lady rang the BBC and said she heard that there was a hurricane on the way. Well don’t worry if you’re watching, there isn’t.” However, he wasn’t talking about the UK at thatpoint but to a story in the News. "My remarks" he said "referred to Florida and a link to a news story about devastation in the Caribbean that had just been broadcast. The phone call was a member of staff reassuring his mother just before she set off there on holiday! I did say, ‘batten down the hatches there’s some really stormy weather on the way’ – if the full clip is used all would be revealed.”

I wonder if Tolkien did in fact base Radagast on St Francis of Assisi. Same brown outfit, communicates with animals. To be honest, when I first read of Radagast, it was St Francis's image that sprang to mind. So I would say Radagast is a St.Francis figure, rather than the other way round.

I know that Tolkien denied allegories, but some of his characters were of rather religious image. So not allegories per se, just imagery. Which is nice.

Oh, I don't think Radagast was gullible at all. You do mean Radagast, don't you cirdaneth. I think he was rather astute too. Probably, that bumbly hermit-type person, but sharp as a knife.

St Francis was born in 1182, and there was travel in those days, not package tours I grant you, but travel. Maybe the good Saint landed in the Americas all those years ago and actually met up with Native Americans. Stranger things happen. And who communicate with animals better than the Native American.

St Francis is the patron Saint of animals and the environment. Perhaps concerted prayers in his shell-like, might not do any harm.

Didn't buy anything at the shops at lunch time, but it was nice to look around and a bit of exercise. Dulling over now, probable rain again.

Gotta go.

Hugs

Rose xx

I probably shouldn't have said 'gullible'. It's just that he was taken in by Saruman ... but then so was everyone else for a while. He played the part Saruman set for him ... and yet if he hadn't Gandalf would not have discovered the extent of Saruman's treachery. So it must have been another of those things that was 'meant'.

Thus on further thought I retract th word 'gullible'. It's interesting that Radagast remains unaccounted for at the end of LotR. Maybe he's still around ... or may have been in the 13C. He was a wizard after all.

Oooh .... goose-bumps.

It has been quite a week but good to be back and have things somewhat back to normal. They had problems with our cable installation as well as some other glitches here. But it was 3 degrees when we left Ohio and 75 here in Texas on the day we arrived, so that was a plus.

Had some bad news - my daughter lost her baby last week. She is having quite a bit of difficulty dealing with her emotions as she was quite far along.

I was both disappointed and sad to read Swabby's last post. Honesty begins with ourselves and it is not for us to judge another's intentions or thoughts. None of us can see inside another's heart to know or feel their true thoughts or intentions. Love does not result in condemnation rather in acceptance of one another. Choosing to speak one's mind here or not is a personal choice. Remaining silent on an issue in this forum does not equate agreement or disagreement on the topic. There are many on-line forums for debates on all kinds of things. I enjoy reading and sharing our love of Tolkien and appreciate the respect we have for one another's differences. None of us are perfect and none of us think exactly the same. It would be a boring world if we did. All of us are over 40 and have been adults for some time now. That should give us the maturity to avoid name calling. But I love you all just the same and whether or not you choose to accept that is up to you.

Awelyn, you are so sweet and full of love. It is good to know I was missed. I tried to call you last night but no answer so will try later in the week?

Randi, where in Texas do you live? You can send me a pm if you want to keep that private. We are about 35 miles southwest of Ft Worth.

I skimmed over most of the posts so will try and read them more thoroughly now. Take care, everyone and have a great day. I love what you said about happy Tolkien thoughts, Neenime. Will try and do just that.

No i Melain na le. (May the Valar be with you).

Cirdaneth – what a beautiful poem. It very much evokes the sense of beauty and otherworldiness that Tolkien created with his works. Thanks for sharing it. I really do prefer YOUR version of the next chapter in the Elvish story.

Heri – great joke., That’s exactly my point about people helping themselves rather than waiting for some great force or being to take away all the bad stuff.

Rose- love the joke! It was quite electrifying! *groan* Please pardon my pun, couldn't resist it!
