Your movie quote has me stumped - I thought I was quite good at these things MinasTirith Kilt yes! chain mail yes! leather yes! why not all 3?

To all who are affected by the hurricanes- I sincerely hope you keep safe and well although we moan a lot about the weather here in Scotland it is not often life threatening.

Re food - despite being Scottish I don't like haggis do you guys know what it is? Just telling you could put you off for life!

Love and best wishes

Swabby, I believe your quotes come from 'Oh Brother, Where Art Thou'. I thoroughly enjoyed that film and have the cd of the film track.

Old Tom, I'll dust of my hockey stick, just in case. Lol!!

Hope 'Rita' burns herself out and that anyone and everyone affected is ok.

HeriTavaril,
Yes I know what Haggis is and I don't like it either.
Swabby , I am leaving and now you guys start the fun trivia I hear you about the gas prices. I went to bed and this morning the gas price at the gas station down the road was 20 cents higher than last night.

Rose the enforcer sounds pretty fierce.

Egads... Yeah, Rita's another monster.

Hmm... Swabby, could it have been "Hocus Pocus"? The first one sort of sounds like it, but the second one has me confuzzled. :dizzy: LOL...

Rose is A very knowledgeable ladie. Both quotes are from"O Brother Where Art Thou", my favorite movie in the whole world, BJ. ("Before Jackson", what did you think it meant?) The first was spoken by John Turtorro's character and the second by Tim Blake Nelson's.

"O Brother...." is also one of my favorite movies also, swabby. I appreciate the southern culture wrapped up in a tale of ancient greeks. The "turned into a toad" sequence cracks me up each time I watch it.

I like the title Rosie the enforcer. I think I'll start calling myself MT, the warrior. School story: the principal called some of my students into her office to ask them some questions about an accident they had seen. She spoke to one child saying "thank you David, for helping me out." He replied that he had changed his name to Darth Vader. So I guess it's not that hard a thing to do.

You make me want to go shopping Old Tom. I'm trying to save some $ for my trip to Indianapolis to see the LOTR exhibit. Heard that there was lots of interesting items for purchase. Hope I can fit it all in the trunk.

Great minds think alike sindarinelvish and HT!:evil: I'm looking forward to the Oct. 30 release of A History of Violence. Can't wait to hear that voice...see those eyes...that ...OOPS!! (I guess you can fill in that oops for yourself)

Yes, indeedOld_Tom_Bombadil I seem to have amassed a few LOTR things here and there. I don't consider them collectables as I intend never to part with them. However, for the record:

1) Narsil (my pride and joy)
2) Ring of Barahir (in a light-up case)
3) Nenya (also in light-up case)
4) TTT mousepad
5) the three films on DVD
6) All three soundtracks
7) several calendars (some I made myself)
2 maps of Middle Earth, suitably framed
9) Gandalf and Arwen bookmarks (complete with Ring)
10) LOTR Monopoly
11) Gandalf's brooch
12) a Mallorn Leaf brooch
13) 2 LOTR T-shirts (hiome-made with admittedly pirated images , using iron-on transfer paper)

also - a disk with pages from my now-defunct web site that featured a page of LOTR writings - archetypal imagery, character development studies, etc

No wonder my family thinks I'm nuts................

Iavas Veren is Sindarin for Joyous Autumn!

Haggis: a mixture of sausage, oats, spices, etc. in a sheep's stomach---sort of a meatload in its own carrying case. (Anything's edible with ketchup!) :twitch:

My list

1. Narsil and the scabbard for Andruil/Narsil (you can't really let a sword sit around nekked!
2. Sideshow's Galadhrim Archer (I think this is the most elegant of the WETA works) and King Elessar statues.
3. Sting and scabbard (which I bought as a gift for my niece but haven't given to her yet.)
4. The mallorn leaf earrings, keychain, and a cuff bracelet with the ring inscription.
5. The ring of Barahir which I wear as part of my daily jewelry.
6. CDs. DVDs, books including David Salo's Gateway to Sindarin, maps, etc.
7. Can I count my Italian charm bracelet that says "Cuio Mae" (live well)?

MT when are you going to Indy? We (DH, good friend, and obsessed teen) have tickets for the day after Thanksgiving BUT if I can sneak away from school---oh, I feel the need for a personal day---I may go up sooner!

Movie trivia: Opening line from my favorite movie (except of course for LOTRs) "I remember Africa..."

Hi everyone. Happy belated Frodo and Bilbo Baggins Birthday.

OLD TOM: I also have ammassed a few things:

1. Middle Earth map that was given to me by a friend.
2. Hardcover set of LOTR Trilogy dated 1977.
3. Softcover set of LOTR in Voyager Classic editions.
4. Balrog bookmark with balrog head.
5. Middle Earth Bookmark that folds out into a map.
6. Cast bookmark that folds out into the races of ME.
7. 4 posters.
8. zillions of pictures that I have on 4 cds.
9. The One Ring
10. Movies: 3 EE in dvd and vhs; 3 theatrical in dvd and vhs; 3 cartoon versions in both dvd and vhs.
11. All movie books
12. 1 vol LOTR book.
13 Arwen glass from A&W found at garage sale.
14. LOTR warfare and weapons
15. LOTR t-shirt that I designed myself.
16. Few LOTR reference books.
17. Display cardboards of Frodo, Gandalf, TTT and ROTK.
18. CD to ROTK.

I collect anything weird. That's about it. I love anything of LOTR in books. The thing I'm looking for right now is the History of Middle Earth set. I will find it one of these days.

Well, I should go to bed. Work comes early in the morning.

I have A number of collectables, too, but I haven't done an inventory of them.

I met A very nice lady and fellow LotR fan at Books-A-Million last night. I told her about this site and she said she'd check it out. It occured to me that this LotR phenomenon is no "flash in the pan". I think we are destined to be the "Trekies" of the 21st century.

When PJ's movies were showing in the theaters, I wanted nothing more than for my youngest son to share in his old father's enthusiasm and watch the movies with me. He's A big Harry Potter fan, but even after I told him that I was sure JK Rowling was A Ringfan and borrowed heavily from Mr. Tolkien's works, he would have nothing to do with "The Lord of the Rings". He kept telling me that he "just wasn't interested", which, for me, was like being slapped in the face with A large tuna. I chalked it all up to some sort of adolescent allergic reaction to conformism. Finally, when RotK was showing, I manipulated things A bit and invited one of his friends to go with me, which (I'm guessing) made it OK for my son to go too.
I have seen him have similar reactions to other things as well. It's as if he automatically rejects anything that I try to steer him towards. Have any of you had similar experiences? swabby

I used to know A few words and phrases in various languages that were useful to A sailor out on liberty, but I shall not utter them here.
ROTFL!

That reminds me of my days in the Air Force Reserves. We'd often have training missions to Hickam AFB in Hawaii, and we'd go down to Waikiki for dinner. On one of the weekends we went to Hickam the fleet was in and the working girls were out in force. (Hickam is adjacent to Pearl Harbor.)

I'd gone to dinner with a buddy of mine, whose wife was also in our squadron but not on this mission, and on our way back to the hotel after dinner we passed a couple of provocatively clad young women. One of them said, "You boys need dates?". My buddy immediately quickened his step for fear of being seen talking to these girls and having it get back to his wife. (I wasn't married at the time.)

Once we were out of earshot of the girls (which wasn't long at the pace we were walking) I laughed and said to my buddy, "What's the matter, Jim? Don't you want to talk to those girls?" (Being the fine upstanding young man that I was I had no interest in a "date", of course.)

Old Tom, I'll dust of my hockey stick, just in case. Lol!!
All right! Here, you better take these elbow pads, too.

It sounds like you all have some very nice collections. I'd post a list here but it would take me several days just to catalog it all.

One of the more uncommon items I have is a coffee table edition of The Hobbit, fully illustrated with the cartoons from the Rankin-Bass production that appeared on TV in the U.S. on November 27, 1977. (I removed and saved the article from that week's TV Guide.) I received the book as a Christmas gift from my parents. I believe it was that same Christmas that I received a first edition printing of the newly released book, The Silmarillion. (I still have that, too. )

Swabby, that sounds very familiar. My teenager doesn't want to have much anything to do with most of what her parents are interested in. I think it's a normal phase in growing up and becoming independent. She likes the LOTR though, although she's not such a freak as I am. (And, we both like Harry Potter.)

LOL HT-vegetarian orcs!!!

My Middle aged Crazy (MAC) friends and I have tickets to see the exhibit on Nov. 12th at 10:30. I can't wait! I'm bringing some special "goodies" to share, some LOTR and some AL (as in the state of). It's going to be a wild time. Come and join us if you dare. We'd love to have you. I've been reading your Aragorn stories in fanfiction and loving each moment. You've captured what I love most in him. Take that as a supreme compliment from an Aradorer!!:heart:

My collection of LOTR items never will be complete. Seems that I'm always "needing" just one more thing. My most prized posessions are my swords: Andruil and sheath, Lord of the Ringwraith's sword, plastic Sting that turns blue and makes clanging sounds when you move it around and an electronic Andruil with clash/clang sounds when the hilt is pressed just so.

I'm also very partial to my books, CDs, DVD's, Aragorn action firgures and art collection. I've saved 4 boxes of FOTR, TTT and ROTK valentines over the years. Thinking of buying the Aragorn lunchbox-what every kindergarten teacher who has the hots for Aragorn needs, don't you think?

Well, well, quite the LOTR warehouse here.........

I didn't count my 2 sets of the trilogy books, assuming that that was "standard equipment" for fans. Well, one set anyway. I keep the old paperback set at work for when I want a quiet lunch without people chattering at me.

Have taught myself to write in Elvish -that is, English words in Elvish script, if you take my meaning. I read Elvish verrrrry slowly, so that part needs much more practice! Usually take a few paragraphs at random from one of the books & work away over my lunch time. I love the look of it- like doing calligraphy. have a special pen, a special book. it's like a relaxing ritual.

_____________________________________________________________________________
haggis Have tried it, can't say I like it. It wants seasoning, something fierce. Where's Emeril when you need him? A little "Bam!" would brighten it up nicely I much prefer "blood sausage" (is that the same a s "blood pudding? Our has blood (I guess) and lots of buckwheat filler.Looks black. Bakes up nice. Yummy hot or cold. Easter-time favourite of many Slavic nations. ________________________________________________________________________________

Teens and passing on traditions - yeah, know how you feel, swabby. I think they swear a blood oath to reject going to the Dark Side (i.e. anything remotel resembling parental or mainstream culture). LOTR video games and Tolkien-inspired heavy-metal music may be the only way some of them can stomach it. We can only hope that they will investgate the original material when they start to mellow out.

Just think - we were likely much the same in response to our parents trying to influence our tastes and show us that path of greater civilzation, right? And look how fabulous we turnd out!!!!

A journey began and ended with danger
four hobbits there were and one sexy ranger
A wizard, A dwarf, an elf and A man
A fellowship formed with one common plan
escort Mr Frodo to the mountain of fire
destroy the ring---make Sauron retire
the fellowship had no pipeweed or food
till Aragorn traded his pants to A dude
A funny little orc who only ate beans
"pipeweed and bean haggis, I'll trade for your jeans"
said the bean-eating orc on cold legs all shaking
(he was wearing A kilt and his bones, they were quaking)
"I see why you want my fabulous britches"
said Aragorn scratching at something that itches
"A kilt cannot cover your knobby ol' knees,
A trade we will make for one pair of these"
So he traded his pants to A vegetarian orc
for A kilt designed by McCrab of New York
While Aragorn runs to save Merry and Pip
Our sword-slinging teachers are praying he'll trip

Is there nothing ol' swabby won't do for you ladies?

 ROFL!!!

What a wonderful end to a busy day, Swabby! I just loved your poem.

My sister is in town just for 36 hours this weekend. (We shoveled out my mom's basement...filled a 30 cubic yard dumpster to boot!) I had been after her for years and years to get involved in LotR. Most of my family have been fans for years on end. Well, she held out until the movies came out and decided she had to read the books. Of course, having the good taste that runs in my family, she was hooked. I had dinner here tonight for my siblings that helped out in the cleaning, and my sister and I were talking about my heart's desire for a 24-K One Ring and Weta's Andruil. Evidently she has a *wonderful* catalog with all these nifty items in it. So she's going to forward it on to me. The spousal unit had a panicky look on his face when she told me that. lol I think I may need an extra job!

The major collection besides antiques in our house is Star Wars. The spousal unit and son are REALLY into it. When we moved 2.5 years ago, we moved over 65 boxes of the stuff. There is an entire room devoted to it. My LotR collection isn't nearly so extensive as that. My collection is mainly the books and a few of the collectible figures. Oh, yeah, we do have that ring thing that Burger King gave out the the year FotR came out. The son ate a LOT of Burger King along with his friends to get that set, let me tell you. Lol Oh, well. Once this catalog gets here, watch out!!

Swabby I love your poem very amusing!

I went back and read what this thread was supposed to be about (enduring love of Tolkien over the years) I fell in love with the books many years ago and always hoped they would make a decent film. They made three! My niece recently finished reading LOTR for the first time (she is 10) and I knew she enjoyed them very much. If she does as I did and goes back to them time after time then as she matures she will see different aspects of the stories and the characters. Since the films came out I have more of a focus for my interest I write stories and I love this site. It is good to know I am not the only mature but crazy LOTR fan.

Love to all

swabby: Your poem is a dandy!! I can picture Aragorn, completely. Thanks

I'm not a great collector. I have all the theatrical and EE dvds of LotR, The Soddit, Sell-a-Million, the Sil, The Hobbit and *the* three books. A poster and a two calendars.

What I do collect is dragons and unicorns.

Scots: You sound as though you had a productive day. And I think Ian would swallow hard at catalogue of LotR stuff. Lol!!

Old Tom: Thanks for the elbow pads.

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Swabby, your poem made me ROFL. You're quite inventive!

I'm not a great collector of movie related stuff either. I have both the theatrical and extended versions of all the three LOTR movies, and the soundtracks to them, but that's it. I'm much more enthusiastic in the book department. I've got the LOTR as a paperback that's falling out, and as a hardcover edition with Alan Lee's illustrations; the Silmarillion with Ted Nasmith's illustrations; The Hobbit and Unfinished Tales as paperbacks, and will get them as hardcovers as soon as I can; the complete History of Middle-earth series; and translations of the LOTR, The Hobbit, and the Sil.

This sword swinging teacher greatly appreciates your poem, swabby. You gave me a big smile when I needed it!

The books are my favorite and first "collectables". I read The Hobbit to my sons when they were young and invited them to read LOTR when they were old enough to enjoy but young enough to try something suggested by mom. It was my eldest that first brought me rumor that someone I had never heard of before was filming LOTR, and it was going to be more than one film. He had found the info and some scenes on the internet and shared them . What a wonderful child!!

For one of his birthdays not too long ago, I gifted eldest with Farmer Giles of Ham. (His name is Giles ). For my birthday last year he gave me an elvish ring...my ring of power....

Isn't it funny and interesting how Tolkien has invaded so many diferent aspects of our lives?? Thank you so much, Professor!!

MT leaves smiling, still thinking of Viggo in a kilt.

Just got back from seeing "The Corpse Bride". I liked it, but I think "Nightmare before Christmas" was better.

I'm so glad that you all liked my little "Ode to A ventilated Ranger". Actually, the wardrobe adjustment should help Aragorn with that embarrasing itch.

And now, for something completely different, A __ with ____ ___.

Swabby,
What a poem. I am very impressed. It made me laugh.
I have just got back from seeing my grandchildren and I have a solution for all the teachers in here that want to slash with a sword.
My grandson has a game LOTR that you hook up to the TV. It comes with a sword and you go from level to level with it getting harder and harder. It tells you how to do different sword moves. We had so much fun with it. So, go for it girls.
I just can't eat things with blood. I don't eat alot of meat anyway.
Have a good night.

Yeah, my boys like the video-gaming aspect of LOTR. One hasn't even seen the last 2 films (*shudder*). I love him anyway. I think only the eldest has read the trilogy. Hubby and I keep trying to encourage them. I guess that's all we can do.

Hubby read it in the 60's when it was the cool thing to do -you know, beatnicks, coffee houses, smoking a pipe. I first read it in the 70's as part of a high school course (Sci-Fi and Fantasy). Awesome course - was introduced to a lot of classic Sci-Fi fiction (Asimov, Herbert, LeGuin, Heinlein).

swabby Great poem. Striking imagery (If you take my meaning.)

.....sword-swinging teachers .... that must make for an intersting classroom. Have an Orc problem, do you? Or maybe not anymore with a trusty sword at your side!

I have much to regret about my life, and one thing is that I didn't read the LotR books earlier. I first knew about them in 1972 when I saw one of my friends reading "The Hobbit". He told me A little bit about it and I thought it sounded interesting, but I just wasn't A "reader" back then.

I thought I might tweek that last poem A little bit, and make it more universally appealing, since it was full of inside jokes.

A long ago journey was fraught with danger
four hobbits there went, and one sexy ranger
A wizard, A dwarf, an elf and A man
A fellowship formed with A common plan
escort Mr Frodo to the mountain of fire
destroy the ring--make Sauron retire
but thier lembas grew moldy, they feared their defeat
the fellowship floundered for lack of some meat
then Aragorn traded his pants to an orc
who was wearing A kilt designed in New York
"some warg-fat haggis, I'll trade for your jeans"
said the funny old orc who didn't look mean
"I see why you want my beautiful britches"
said Aragorn scratching at something that itches
your legs, they are thin, and you are too old
to wear that kilt out here in this cold
A trade we will make, we'll do it right now
so give me that kilt and all of your chow!
all were happy and got what they wanted
the bare-legged ranger continued undaunted
he runs across Rohan to save Merry and Pip
while lusty shieldmaidens all hope that he'll trip

What's the verdict? Should I have left it alone, or is it better now? swabby

Swabby I like both versions but see what you mean about insider jokes. Anyone coming to this thread for the first time must wonder what we are all going on about! I tried explaining to my friend but I don't think she really got it. Anyone overhearing the conversation would be even more baffled - vegetarian Orcs? We sound like some bizarre secret society

LOL well apart from the secret bit....
For the record, I like haggis. However, when I saw it for sale in Norway this summer holiday sold as "Lung mousse" it just didn't have the same appeal. Same way "black pudding" which I enjoy fried (just not very often as it's a real cholesterol special) is less appealing as Blood Sausage/pudding. A rose, by any other name.... I'm sorry, Mr Shakespeare sir, it's not true!!!

Well I am a fortunate person today, as my birthday brought with it a figure of Legolas from my dear 10-yr-old LOTR fan son, bless him. You can fire his arrows, and if you squeeze his legs together he has a "real knife-stabbing action". I've put him on my office window-ledge to cheer those moments when I look up from my PC for inspiration. Will no doubt provide endless amusement for my team and colleagues too. Apart from my precious books (first-ed Sil, 1969 LOTR, 1967ish Hobbit, New illustrated Hobbit and LOTR, The Tale of Tom Bombadil, Mr Bliss, a compilation including Farmer Giles of Ham and Smith of Wooton Major and Unfinished Tales) which are at home, most of my LOTR stuff is in my office at work. No place for a sword alas! I have a set of 3 limited edition prints made for the British Science Museum when they had the LOTR exhibition - Galadriel, Arwen and Gollum. Funny combination, but by the time I got them they were selling them off cheaply and you got what was left. I also have a set of 6 "moving" picture cards from cereal packets (made the kids eat the same brand for ages to get them all!). Legolas has joined a Black Rider on the window-ledge, and I have a variety of smallish prints of pictures from the films on my pin-board. It's great, when I look up from the PC it's like a little LOTR shrine. Oh yes, and I have a picture of Gandalf on the bedroom door. On the outside, in case anyone wondered!
In fact, now I come to catalogue it, I seem to have quite a bit of LOTR stuff. (And I didn't mention the dvds and cds...) Oops.

One of the side-effects of life-long LOTR-lunacy is that visits to all sorts of places can be related to Middle Earth. This weekend, I was lucky enough to go to Rome with my husband. Tour of Osgiliath, anyone? Admittedly the Imperial Fora are now mostly a bit more broken down than even an Orc army could achieve in the time available, but there was just something about the atmosphere, somehow. Some of the Pallazi are just crying out for a Steward of Gondor, and I could easily imagine the coronation of the King in the Piazza at the top of the Capitol. As it was we had to make do with a steady stream of wedding parties having their pictures taken next to the statue of Marcus Aurelius. Oh yes, and there was a head of Emperor Constantine in one of the museums which was almost big enough to have belonged to one of the Argonath. Superlatives fail me, just go visit for yourselves one day!

Swabby, I liked both versions of your ditty. Oh yes, and I was interested in the Flapjack recipes. Over here, flapjack is almost always a kind of square biscuit, made of oats, sugar, butter and golden syrup - quite different from yours. Your version sounds closer to something from the far North-East of England called "Singing Hinnies" - a hinnie is a term of endearment, and "singing" because they sizzle when you cook them. Ours are usually cut into small rounds and often have currants in, otherwise the mixture is similar. Also they should be crisp on the outside but they're fairly thick so softer in the middle. I'm going to try your method and see how it comes out by comparison - sounds great for breakfast. Another time I'll post the quantities and method for English flapjacks. They are often made around Hallowe'en so will soon be seasonal I still wonder what The Professor modelled his Lembas on.

Oh dear, longer post than anticipated. Well, I had a lot of catching up on you folks.

Swabby,
I like the second version best. Both were good. I regret also about not reading Tolkien sooner and I am so glad that I found Tolkien this summer.
Lady Adaneth, Hello. It just the thought of blood cooked that turns me away. I even sometimes make my meat Kosher which is getting all the blood out of the meat. A Jewish friend showed me how to do it.
I know there is blood in hamburger and other meats I guess it is just the thought and name. What a sweet son you have and so thoughtful. I have the LOTR book divided in the three sections. I have the three movies,I also have some drawings that a considerate friend drew for me. It is a start. I want more books.
Hi HT and Neenime.
Have a good night.

Hello to old an new members of FoF. I haven't been here in absolutley ages but read the last few pages of the thread with interest.

MinasTirithMS-A kindergarten Teacher? You have several collegaues of varying grades with you on FoF. I'm a 3rd grade teacher.

Collections**Life-size cardboard standees of Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli and Frodo who guard me while I am in the den. Aragron was a birthday gift, the others followed. My husbands classic response. "I go to bed with Lord of the Rings and I wake up with Lord of the Rings." Shall we say a small prayer for the man.

Scots56-Hope you share the catalog when you are done with it. I'm not even going to tell my husband I have heard of the exsistence of one. But if I could have anything it would be a replica of both Anduril and Sting. May have to settle for the letter opener size.

Languages-someone said they couldn't learn languages. I am taking a Spanish for teachers class on Monday nights. Our newest homework assignment is to interview a non English speaking person about themselves using a translator. I think the goal is to help us feel how uncomfortable it is to be the one who is in need of assistance to understand. Eager but scared to complete that one. Makes the other assignment, memorize 10 phrases seem easy.

Glad to be back if only for a moment. I'll try to keep up to date with everyone.

Joyous Autumn all. (My favorite time of year to Scts56 and for the same reasons, except not my birthday.)

Brandywine

Oh Yeah totally loved the kilt poem. Nice visuals of Viggo. His new movie looks***intense***

LadyA and Brandywine, good to see you both.

"I go to bed with Lord of the Rings and I wake up with Lord of the Rings."

Ha ha ha! As do Goldberry and I. (I have Aragorn's banner on the wall behind my nightstand, she has Arwen's. We also have the Brothers Hildebrand's "The Wedding of the King" on the wall opposite the foot of our bed.) She doesn't seem to mind, though.

(If you're wondering about the odd posting time--it's 5:40 AM PDT--I woke up a couple of hours ago with a lot of pain in my neck and couldn't get back to sleep. )

Suilad back at ya awelyn418.

collections
Brandywine - I had a standee from TTT that one of my boys brought home form the videostore he worked at. it was great until a basement flood last spring turned it to mush. it was so hard to throw it away *tear drops slowly from one eye*.

A friend gave me a book of Tolkien's illustrations back when I was in high school. Didn't like it them but have a new appreciation for it now that I know more about what an amazing person the professor was. Having finally read Sil and The Hobbit also helped to out the drawings in context.

swabby Both are great poems. Like the second one better. Somethig about the language and the way the lines scan. Thanks for sharing.

May I add my own humble endeavour?

TO THE DUNEDAIN

Ah, noble heart, come rest a while
Cast not your hopes upon the sea.
Eärendil smiles from the West,
Soon your bright hour will come to be.

How many leagues you’ve crossed, apart
From friendship, comfort, hearth and home.
And still your arm defends the Light,
You face the dark alone.

Do not despair, my Dûnedain
The darkness yet does not prevail.
Your shining courage gathers friends
Whose union will not fail.

What generations gone before
Stand with you in your hour of need?
Their strength and valour springs anew
Repaying what they wrought in greed.

So rest awhile before the plunge.
Let friends protect your blessed sleep.
The Light will make your footsteps sure
And through the Dark One’s shadows sweep.

Neenime

“Some believe it is only great power that can hold evil in check. But that is not what I have found. I have found that it is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindness and love. " Gandalf

neenime, your poem is fabulous! Who knew you had such talent? I don't take my poetry too seriously, it's mostly an outlet for my silliness. I have done some serious stuff before but I don't know where it's at.

Old Tom, I'm sorry to hear about your sore neck. Perhaps old man Willow has been getting A little revenge with his knarly roots while you slept.

Language---- my dad had these 78 rpm records that were supposed to teach you to speak Spanish. He had journied to Texas and New Mexico back in the late twenties, where he picked cotton and did other farm work. He took A real liking to anything Mexican, especially the women. He'd jump at the chance to converse with anyone who spoke that language and never wanted to go to any kind of restaurant other than A mexican one. My present spousal unit is of the Tex-Mex variety, having met her while stationed in south Texas. Dad was thrilled by my choice, I think, and he had plenty of inlaws to practice his Spanish with, although he had learned Castillion Spanish from those records and it was A bit different from what my inlaws spoke.

They showed that Bob Dylan documentary that Martin Scorsese made on PBS last night. Did any of you see it? It was great! They showed A young Joan Baez, too. I confess that I had the hots for her when I was about 16. I could still enjoy A little cuddle if it was allowed. I know she wasn't ravishingly beautiful like Sophia Loren, but she had something going for her other than that angel's voice.

I have one new drawing posted, in case any of you are interested. It's one I did of Bilbo. I had uploaded A new one of Frodo also, but it's not there, for some reason. I'll try to add it again when I'm done with A new Aragorn that I'm working on. It's one of him at the end of ROTK where he's all cleaned up and wearing his crown. swabby

Nay, nothing passes door and window here save moonlight and starlight and the wind off the hill-top (and maybe a spider or two).

I believe Old Man Pillow is the more likely culprit. Well, actually he's not that old. In fact, he's rather new. A bit too firm, though, I'm a-thinking. Perhaps I shall buy a new pillow like the one Goldberry has that's not so firm.

I also spend too much time on the computer.

 Brandywine and LadyA.

I loved your poem Neenime.

Pillows can be a pain in the neck, Old Tom. Pun intended. Hope it is easier now.

I watched part of the Bob Dylan film, swabby. I remember having his records when I was young and playing them on my record player in my bedroom. Mum thought I was strangling the cat. lol!!

swabby has inspired me to pick up pencils again. I also have added a new drawing here

swabby: Bilbo is wonderful. But I think Gollum is my favourite.

We are a talented lot. Well, we are!! Lol!!
