I explained Findaráto's presence in the paragraph:

Nolofinwë decides to have the Council before fully setting out over the Ice. And sends Findaráto to Artanis with the idea. Artanis sends Elnaira to call Erumelmo and Angarato to call Findekano and Turukano; but since he cannot come, Irissë comes in his stead.

So Findaráto is sent, from the 1st host to 2nd - or Mid - host, to brief Artanis about the Council.

She then sends Angarato, from the 2nd to the 3rd - or rear - host, to brief Findekano and Turukano.

And, yes, thanks for pointing that out, Ber, I made a mistake in the image. I just noticed it, when you mentioned it - sorry about that, people!

It is Aikanáro (Aegnor) and not Arakáno (Argon), who comes to the Council. Arakáno remains to take charge of the first host.
I shall rectify the image immediately.

Once again the Leaders of the 3 hosts who come to the Council are as follows:
1. The Beginning:
Nolofinwë
Findaráto

2. The Middle:
Artanis
Aikanáro
(Erumelmo)

3. The End:
Findekáno
Irissë

Those leaders who Stay away from the Council because they are left in charge of the:

1 host: Arakáno

2 host: Angarato
(& Elnaira)

3 host: Turukáno (and his wife Elenwe)
& Artaresto

And, once again, the order of appearance:
1) Findaráto - already present with the Mid-host, leaves Artanis' company earlier and comes to see the place with (2) Aikanáro for company;
3) Findekáno comes next with (4) Irissë (and Túrë Alassindo, her escort sent by Turukano);
5) Erumelmo comes later after Elnaira decides to stay back with their ailing brother.
6) Artanis follows.
7) Nolofinwë is the last to join the Council.

(Túrë Alassindo is one of Turukano's commanders - who will later be wed to Elnaira. He is a Telerin male elf. His bio can be found here .)

===================================

Turin,
If you wish for Taurohtar to be of Finwë's age, then I wouldn't know when he could be born. Perhaps then he was one of the Elves who journeyed with Finwë from Middle-earth to Valinor; one of those to be born in Cuiviénen.

Though I must tell you to then tread carefully with the portrayal of this character, since he has already been to Middle-earth - in fact journeyed through it! And there shall be a lot of history to him.

Gosh, I am a bit confused :dizzy: - all right, scratch out the "a bit" - it took me about 10 minutes to understand who was who and who was where in that last post of yours, Rumel. :twitch: Have pity on us poor souls who have to think of the seating arrangements on a block of ice!! Hehehe. Just kidding.

But I did get it... though, Ber, in order to understand it I did have to make him sit down and explain it to me.

By the way, Maralyn, I like the idea of Ondotano knowing Taurohtar. It could be better than I knowing him...male bonding always works better in situations like this - human or elf.

Also, Turin, if I know a little bit of what I have read online on wiki, Taurohtar would have to be a really respected elf if he is to be as old as Finwe (I am sorry for not using the accents here, do bear with me)... and if he is to be born right at the beginning, he would have no parents - please correct me if I am wrong, I am only asking. And technically, he would be the oldest elf in Middle-earth! That in itself becomes a very powerful position, and changes a lot of things. For instance, I wanted my character Silme to relate to him and perhaps get to be friends with him - but if he is so old, then she would always be in awe of him.

Perhaps instead of Finwe's age, he could be Galadriel's age - so still older than Erumelmo, but not the oldest elf?

Maralyn, can you help me with understanding Eärlindë Ciryataniel a bit better?

My character Silme is one of the Vanyar, sister to Elenwe, Turgon's wife. So any ideas how they both come to be friends? Maybe they know each other from Tirion? Perhaps Silme heard her singing once, and went to hear her and then ask her to teach her singing?

*edit* Oh, Maralyn, how about this? Eärlindë Ciryataniel would come to sing in Finwe's court, and that is how they met?

Ok, I'll put down that Taurohtar was born along the journey from Cuiviénen. That way he won't remember much or anything about the journey to Valinor. Does that sound good?

As for your question Isillinde, Taurohtar was born during the journey to Valinor, specifically on the Isle of Balar. That way he isn't one of the oldest elves alive. Also, he wasn't born into a noble family and therefore wouldn't be one of the renowned elves like Finwe (to use his common name). Also, you must remember that Taurohtar is trying to rebuild his life because when he departed Valinor, his entire family stayed behind (no, he was never married) and infact, they disowned him.

Okay *takes a deeeeep breath* I have a cameo performance ready to go, Rumel. I'm sitting on it for the night but plan to post tomorrow. Don't add anything to the Council until I do as it would mean I'd have to re-do my entire post to coordinate it with anything new.

I'm reading mine, and re-reading...not sure it's what you're looking for but you'll see on Monday (our time). Let me know when I post whether anything needs editing.

You have captured Irissë beautifully, Ber. The perfect combination of the traits we talked of...and now she comes to life in your work. I wouldn't change a thing. I love the bits and pieces of the 'work' she had to do - brilliant.

Now we wait for Nolofinwë's arrival. Yay!

Rumel,

I have edited my post....royal screw up (no pun intended... ). I had in error made Artanis Nolofinwe's daughter rather than the daughter of Arafinwe.....all better now...all fixed.

Had you? Gosh, I didn't notice. I was too busy reading your descriptions of Helcaraxe and the tone of Irisse's character to notice the detailing of Artanis - I didn't expect any errors there . Cool, that it's rectified. Well, just goes to show that the best of us get confused with the names. Looking forward to the next.

I'm hoping so. I should have it posted by Friday. I won't be home until late tonight, and work tomorrow (and things have been too busy to work on it here ). I have been pondering on it, and Friday's my day off (with nothing to do but write and do laundry ), so look for it then.

Sure. Will start working on my post after you put up yours.

Isil and Maralyn can co-ordinate and write up theirs, in the meantime, since I assume, their story line would co-ordinate with Elnaira, instead of Erumelmo/the Council.

No problem, Maralyn. It was a cool post.

I wrote in immediately, because otherwise I lose track of what I read...so I just put up my post. One thing I have changed from your idea, is that (as Rumel says) the hosts have been travelling for a few months now - so this is not the first time that Silme shall be seeing Earlinde. You have mentioned that briefly, I have made them meet a few times on the journey.

I have explained in Silme's dialogue they haven't really had a chance to have a heart-to-heart conversation in all these encounters. And that Earlinde is depressed enough to have stopped singing...is that all right with you? if not, I'll immediately edit my post - let me know how it is.

This would be a good time for them to have that conversation. What do you say?

My post is also kind of small, because I didn't have any other character to interact with, and I am not supposed to put words for a character that doesn't belong to me I suppose. So it's shorter than I wanted it to be.

All the posts are going beautifully...I'm very impressed.

But I have a question. This thread (like many have in the past) have lost some players and gained new ones. What happens is that the posting order tends to get lost in the process.

Erumelmo, could you review the posts and list the order you'd like us to take, please?

Hello, Ber,

I'm afraid this thread never had a posting order. I never put one, and I did think about it, but decided against a posting order. You see, though the storyline evolves around a specific time period, the action that takes place isn't restricted to any one particular group.

For example, right now there are three episodes happening:
1. The Council, wherein I am writing as Erumelmo, you are enacting Irisse, and Gwen is playing Nolofinwe.

2. The lean-to, where I am writing as Elnaira and Turin is writing Taurohtar

3. Maralyn's Earlinde and Ondotano and Isil's Silme are in another episode.

So I think the storylines are set but yet they maintain fluidity... so Maralyn posted and then Isil to maintain that story. I shall write on behalf of Elnaira now. In a few posts, Maralyn, Isil and I shall be writing together with the three elven ladies: Earlinde, Silme and Elnaira. So that's one subplot going on - until the Council ends.

If a posting order is given, sometimes it gets to be a long wait - which in case of all the characters being in one place does seem feasible. But here they are in different places so the groups maintain the consistency. For example now, I shall wait till you and Gwen finish your next posts to write on Erumelmo. But can carry on with a post regarding Elnaira - so the fluidity of the thread remains and it carries on.

And yes, ladies, I agree with Bereth: the last two posts were lovely indeed!

Makes sense, Rumel.

I'm glad everyone liked my post; I had my doubts about it. Isil, yours is beautiful -- a good post does not necessarily have to be long. How you folk manage to post so quickly is beyond me. :dizzy:

Love the ideas as usual, Isil. I'll edit my post slightly to make it fit with the information you've just given me, and then I'll begin work on my next post.

Hello,
I am sorry for the late post, but I have been ill since the 2nd. The new year carousing in smoke infested places left me with a terrible sore throat. Wishing everyone here a very happy New Year. Sorry again for the tardiness.

Maralyn, Isil, I have put up a post with Elnaira. If the sequence of your posts need to combine with Elnaira's track, then I have left an opening at the end of the post, where two elven women come to her aid. I am hoping that you both can adjust the sequence in your next posts? Silme, Earlinde and Ondotano (sorry, for not using the accents) can reach Elnaira just as she starts singing the Elegy? Let me know if that is all right.

Turin, you sent Taurohtar too early to the Council. He could have stayed and helped Elnaira, since all he has to do outside the Council is wait.

Ber, Gwen, will you be writing in on the next posts of the Council soon?

Rumel,

Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well, hope all is well soon.

Now....about my next post. I've been troubled by just exactly who I'm supposed to respond to. Your Nolo or Gwen's? They both have different 'voices' and I don't know which one to listen to.

I though Gwen was playing Nolo.........................

Hey, Ber.
I am better now. Thanks for the thought.

Now: Two Nolo? I didn't understand. In my last post, it is Fingon (Findekano) who speaks. Though if you mean Nolofinwe's demeanour - isn't it common in character itself? Do let me know what you mean. But if you think the description is different or the 'voice' splits, I'll edit my post...since I didn't realise that was happening. I've maintained the similarity in dialogue and of demeanour as far as possible.

Of course, if it has happened, since Gwen and you have been writing together, and if it makes you more comfortable, you can listen to the the 'voice' set by Gwen.

if you mean Nolofinwe's demeanour - isn't it common in character itself?

I think what may be confusing are the references to Nolofinwë's actions. For example, I might or might not have had him raise an arm to indicate someone else could speak. I might have had him regally nod his head a second time, for instance.

I think it goes to 'who' is controlling the character, Erumelmo, that has to do with the 'voice'. For the posts you're wanting me to play Nolo, if you could let me do that, it might help.

Oh! Thanks for the explanation, Gwen.

I didn't realise that...I am still learning the process of what is acceptable as an rp player.
Will edit my post accordingly.

The parts that I've edited right now:

{Nolofinwë’s blue eyes seemed to gaze deeply into his brown ones and they softened. He lifted his right hand and pressed Erumelmo’s shoulder lightly. With the touch, warm feeling pulsed into the younger neri’s body and he heaved an audible sigh of relief.}

Nolofinwë {half turned looking for someone, then} asked, “Where is Turukáno?”

{Nolofinwë went to the seat and seated himself. After he sat, the others did the same.}

{Nolofinwë raised his hand to indicate that the others could speak.}

I have thought of these points that will be mentioned in the Coucil for deliberation and probably debate.

1) Route: it has to be nearer to the coastline since it would be less cold than the interior part of Helcaraxë. But the ice here would be thinner and more precarious. (For the description of Helcaraxë please read one of my earlier posts.)

2) Fires: Wood has been carried – but in meagre quantity, so the use of it for fires – other than medicinal purposes – will be banned? Even for signalling it will be unnecessary, since the Elves do have the Horns of Nessa (my post dated 7/5/2007 at 02:14 AM), for communication.

3) An approximate guess of the time they would lose for travelling over Helcaraxë. It would be a month as we decided.
But Nolofinwë and Erumelmo shall come with the theory of estimating the amount of time by judging the time spent by Fëanáro sailing off into the East and then the burning of the ships at Losgar – this would be 3.5 days!
(I figured this out by working out the 39 days spent by Al-Pharazon to take the Great Armament over a span of 1200 miles over the sea to Valinor.)
So actually, the journey over Helcaraxë in the most dire conditions would take about 15 days! Even so, given the nature of the trail the provisions would have to be rationed over a conjectured period of a month!

4) Rationing the food: and who would be in charge of rationing the food. Monitors would have to be appointed.

Through the months they have spent on Araman:

Nessi have learnt to fish, they will now do so through holes cut in the ice to drop their jigging lines. They also gathered roots for food or medicine. They sew skins, tan hides, knit mittens and blankets.

Neri trap and hunt, watching the weather closely. Nets are set in holes cut in the ice. They hunt for seal. Popular meat could be caribou, reindeer, bear, beaver, beluga, seal, walrus, and baleen from the whale. They carve ivory, soapstone, or jade, making miniature animals or jewelry. Clothing is repaired. Tools are put in order.

I just put up my post, too. And just pulling forward a message that was written a couple of months ago regarding the topics about to be mentioned in the Council.

Ber, Irisse is a delight to read! And yes, you are right, for the conversational tone to progress the posts related to the Council can be short. Look forward to reading more.

Maralyn, you around?

Hello, everyone!!

I am sorry for the big break I took. But job hassles got to me in December - and then through the New Year have been adjusting to my new job at an airline here.

But - on returning I find that my post will have to wait until Maralyn posts. The Council is going fabulously well - but I do have to ask: why are there so many quotation marks in Gwendeth's posts? Is it because the words are construed to be colloquial and therefore not 'allowed' when High Elves speak? If so, then I shall have to be more careful with my posts.

Also, Rumel, I loved - loved!!!!! - the death 'scene' of Elerosse! I was reading it at work and my mood got - well - terribly upset after the post. It shows just how poignant your writing can be. I loved Ber's posts!! Hehehe - god, but Irisse can be quite a brat - she needs a good talking down to!!! Loved her though!! Keep up the good work, Ber.

Maralyn, I languish in wait. I have a couple of ideas in store and cannot write until you reply to the post I put up earlier on. I find that I quite like rp-ing! yahoo!

p.s.
Oh - Rumel, I    the new siggie!! Shall speak to you about making something similar for me!

People! Please write! So I can write too!!

Hi Isillindë - that's just my 'style' of writing - I use single quotes, italics, asterisks, and underlining for words I want to emphasize.

I am way overdue for a post but I have run into some real life problems this past month that have taken every spare minute I have. I will try and get to a post soon, however.

As for Irisse, I'm glad you like her but I have a confession to make. Every time I write for her, I envision Scarlett O'Hara from Gone With the Wind. Sorry, I know she wasn't an elf but she certainly seemed to have Irisse's personality. *grins*

Sorry to hear about the problems, Ber. Please take your time in writing the post.
On a lighter note - Ber, don't get Isil started on Ms. O'Hara/Hamilton/Kennedy/Butler! Scarlett was her fixation during her teenage years and she was never without that dog-eared book of GWTW for months on end. She was so glad that Linda Goodman had once mentioned that Scarlett had all the traits of an Arien - you see, Isil was born under the sigh of Aries as well.

Thanks, Isil, for the compliments on the writing - and the siggie - if I recall I made the current signature you sport. But if you want a new one I can manage that. Would you consider creating another character to work with Silme so that you don't have to necessarily wait for Maralyn to write in...this is just a suggestion. But I feel the chemistry that Silme has with Maralyn's characters will be truly a delight to watch.

Turin, instead of waiting outside the Council, why don't you allow Taurohtar to return to Elnaira? She needs him around more than Erumelmo at the moment.

Hello.
Turin, a word: I don't think it's appropriate for an Elven warrior to think in terms like "How long is this 'blasted' council going to last!" Please edit that.

And, Gwen, Ber, shall I put in the next post on the Council?
